In wild life (pg 15) it mentions reagent hunting as a possible activity and reagents are mentioned in the core (pg 153) but there are no direct mechanics I've seen for this. Have I missed the mechanics for this or is this something to best be referenced from past editions?

I did the same thing, also looked at Astral Ways. Expect an Ebook or Holostreets ;-)
