I've been really diving into shadowrun 4e lately(mostly 2nd and a little bit of 3rd in the past). I remember reading about New Revolution. But it looks like in 2064 they made a power play for the UCAS government. Was that covered in any novels or in detail in any of the sourcebooks? I've been browsing about it all I can find is one paragraph that seems to just get recycled over and over again in various books.
-
That's the thing about Shadow Governments, they tend not to get much time in the spotlight.
-
The original New Revolution writeup was a chapter in Threats 2, and then a couple of references that they might be behind some shady shit between then and SOTA64. Finally, there was the 1,800-word writeup in System Failure.
Though defeated, the New Revolution has an impact in North America’s political landscape. Some countries are severely bruised (UCAS, Sioux Nation) or experience radical change (Tir Tairngire, Ute). A few pretend it’s business as usual (California, CAS).
There have been very few references since because, um ... I don't know. The whole time jump left a bunch of things hanging that shouldn't have been. Whatever. A couple of references were made about Colloton's speech and her possible ties to the NR. There is at least one direct reference to her Tree of Liberty speech in Spy Games, and another about someone involved. I can't recall the others offhand (I've pretty much shut off re: SG), but I wrote those two.
I'm kind ambivalent about the NR because it's a movement that will never die so long as the U.S. is not whole, but also because it's seemed like more of a joke to me. But it is intrinsic to the DC canon now, so you can guess whether I'll be referencing the NR in the DC section of Conspiracy Theories.
-
Great, the Shadowrun equivalent of The Enclave from Fallout is coming back. ;D
-
I don't play video games, but my approach to the NR years ago was that it was as batshit a plot as the Metal Gear series.
-
You can bet Ares has quit backing these losers and might be playing the long game of working thier way into various nations across the continent to begin 'the long march' through said institutions for eventual reunification
-
Yeah I was writing up a character history for a friends campaign and decided that he would have been in the military about the time the attempted coup took place. I was just looking for history of what took place after the coup and noticed it was absent. I will assume most of what transpired afterwards was shadowbiz and black ops. I will inform my GM that he can run wild with the metaplot that happens between 2064 and 2072. What ever became of the new revolution can be his call.
In writing my history I just noted that after the initial attempt; my character went on assignments to break up remaining new revolution militant strongholds....
Noting the conspiracy potential surrounding Gen. Colloton's. Perhaps my character has his own theories after the stuff he has seen.
As an aside, when is conspiracy theories slated to hit shelves?
-
Well ... I'm still writing the first draft. So given the development schedule of Spy Games, which is my only published work, I'd like to say Christmas. Plus, after Gen Con the big sales push for everything doesn't really come until Christmas Season. But really, who knows? CT is a different beast from SG. Sadly, it would probably come out sooner, but right after I signed my contracts for CT and Artifacts Unbound I got distracted by matters that kept me from finishing them back in Feb/March. So I'm still hoping that in the end 2011 will have, aptly enough, quite a few books (plus ebooks) released.
There were some Season 2 (Denver) Missions NPCs who had been Special Forces who hunted down NR conspirators. In Sixth World Almanac, the publicly-known ringleaders (at least in the UCAS) were rounded up and almost summarily hanged as traitors. I don't know what ever happened anywhere else except Ute and Tir (Well, Ute collapsed. That's the extent of it). I make a reference in SG that the Sioux don't want non-Tribals in the Truth Dancers while PCC does, and the Pueblo snarkily responds that "It wasn't Anglos and Hispanics who briefly took over Cheyenne." So take of that what you will.
-
;D Thanks for the info. I figured that there would be fervent actions against any known New Revolution after the coup. I look forward to Conspiracy Theories! Keep up the good work!!!
-
The New Revolution fell victim to internal betrayal. System Failure made it clear that Colloton was a member, but she essentially betrayed the coup attempt to garner power for herself. So there's probably two factions now - Colloton's, and the remnants of the coup that are probably out for her blood.
The only issue I have? Colloton hasn't really done much to further its goals - I thought at the very least she'd take advantage of the chaos of recent years to reintegrate the remains of the CFS back into the UCAS.
-
Colloton hasn't done anything OVERT to further the goals.
Do we know all of the bills she pushed through Congress? With the riders? The best revolutions are the ones that are done from within, and are brought on by ourselves.
-
System Failure ...
Anyway, no, the one law that has been mentioned is the Military Recovery Act.
-
But things will get interesting if you get someone competent in charge of the New Revolution. I can see a series of Wetwork and infowars jobs to start discrediting opponents to the long term goals. Now simply start with a proposal of economic development over NorthAM and play up the paranoia against Aztlan and you will get the UCAS, CAS, PCC, and few of the NANers at least listening
-
Aztlan seems to be playing ball to that, with the invasion over trees.
...
I either need to read that book again, or just get used to the fact that they went to war over some damned trees!!!

I did the same...my guy's got a history in Black Ops, so it worked out nicely.
It's actually a great theme...guy joins the military as a patriot, finds things aren't as black and white as he once believed, ends up doing wetwork vs radicals that espouse his own ideals. It's rife with angst. :P

So BlackOps Emos cut others to feel again?

What makes you think there isn't someone competent leading the NR?

as my History teacher would say: The fact that they are the revolutionaries and not the people in charge that are opposed

By that metric Lofwyr is incompetent for not even controlling Europe, let alone the world.

He's Lobstering the world.
-
No, seriously, that's just horrible.

Put a lobster in hot water, it tries to get out immediately.
Put it in cold water, slowly raise the temperature, it doesn't notice.
The looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong play.

Sometimes, you're an evil bastard CanRay.

Happiness is a warm gun.

She's not a girl who misses much
Do do do do do do, oh yeah
She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand
Like a lizard on a window pane
The man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors
On his hobnail boots
Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy
Working overtime
A soap impression of his wife which he ate
And donated to the National Trust
I need a fix 'cause I'm going down
Down to the bits that I left uptown
I need a fix cause I'm going down
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Mother Superior jumped the gun
Happiness (is a warm gun)
Bang Bang Shoot Shoot
Happiness (is a warm gun, momma)
Bang Bang Shoot Shoot
(When I hold you in my arms)
Oooooooooh, oh yeah!
And when I feel my finger on your trigger
Oooooooooh, oh yeah!
I know nobody can do me no harm
Oooooooooh, oh yeah!
Happiness (is a warm gun, momma)
Bang Bang Shoot Shoot
Happiness (is a warm gun)
Bang Bang Shoot Shoot
Yes it is, gun!
Happiness (is a warm gun)
Bang Bang Shoot Shoot
Happiness (is a warm gun)
is a warm gun, yeeeaahhh!

Of course, when Lofwyr does decide to rule the world, he has Magic 27 going on, with enough Drain dice to cast a spell that would make most archmage's heads explode. Plus he's a dragon.
-
Yeah, too bad about all those other pesky Great Dragons in the way. And maybe the Immortal Elves if they ever get organized.
...
Or worse, Harlequin alone. Can't predict what that bastard would do stone cold sober, forget what happens if you put rum into him!

I know this is a really old thread to be rebooting but I also figure that those who have posted here have the best chance to answer my question.
Awhile ago I was reading a sourcebook that listed a few other cities that were impacted/occupied during the New Revolution attacks in 2064 but I no longer recall which book this was in and I cannot seem to find it. Does someone here know which book it is that I am thinking of?
Thanks,
Horsemen.

System Failure, most likely, but the cities it mentions are victims of Winternight's nukes, mostly. (And, note to salf, San Fransisco is one of those. That needs to be talked about!) ... the Revolution rose up ... and got swatted down. These days, you see that it's got some backers in the CAS, sneakily hidden under the "True American" movement. Colloton rooted out and purged the majority in the UCAS... unless, of course, she's in the movement herself. (dun dun DUNNNNN!) ... which has been investigated several times and nothing ever spilled out.
At any rate, check out System Failure.... that was teh last time the New Revolution got any real airtime.
-
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Anyway, it was continent-wide, but for all intents and purposes it basically "Never happened" anywhere until I came onboard last year. It's safe to say that somehow or another uprisings took place in every North American capital (excepting Aztlan, the Caribbean League, and Denver) with mixed results. It clearly left a long-term effect to destabilize Tir Tairngire, Tsmishian, and Ute. The effects on the UCAS are a lot more clear. The effects on CAS, Salish, and PCC have not been well-explored, but it has caused tension between PCC and Sioux long term regarding the uprising in Cheyene (alluded to but not described). There's another easter egg in Hard Exit's entry in the Street Legends Supplement when she was doing counterinsurgency hostage rescue.
-
I'm sure this listed five or six cities directly and I am fairly certain it was in one of the new products but I've been quite ill lately so the memory is pretty foggy at the moment.
I'll look in System Failure but I'm pretty sure it wasn't there.
I'll check Hard Exit out thanks.
-
Maybe CT. I can't even recall. Sorry.
-
It would get interesting if a few dragons stuck their snouts into the New Revolution. having a currency to play off vs the Yen would make for fun financial shenannigans
-
Not really any of the great dragons' style. Especially not the ones in North America. And the adult dragons aren't going to deliberately poke Ghostwalker into taking action.
-
Presuming 'taking Denver back over' isn't on the menu, though, Ghostwalker wouldn't give two hoots if the USA was reconstituted.
-
I think his intelligent enough to know, great dragon or not, its not in his best interest to have a reunited usa...
But the nations all fighting each other, perhaps even requesting his assistance or mediation... That would be good...
-
a reunited eastern CSA-UCAS would make things a LOT different on the NorthAm side. I could see a fair amount of both nations messing with the NANers, and fostering some of the micro tribes independence movements
-
... CAS. The CSA was United States Civil War-era.
I will say that the Shadowrun-current politics makes a sustained reunification unlikely.
-
Although, if any of the countries making up the old USA were to reunite, it would be the UCAS and CAS.
-
Although, if any of the countries making up the old USA were to reunite, it would be the UCAS and CAS.
Or the PCC could keep gobbling up other nations until it's the last one standing. OM NOM NOM NOM
-
No, I think the PCC has reached the extent of their gobbling for now. Internal problems are going to keep things in check with them.
-
Oh?
Last I read, they were about to kneecap the Azzie-backed Ute agitation at the annual Shareholder Meeting (Gotta love the idea of a nationwide political convention/election/State of the Union all wrapped into one "thing").
-
Yeah, but as long as the Ute opposition remains, it will be a cause for concern. Also, with the Azzie influence in LA (and a large portion of legal PCC voters, therefore), that's going to cause problems as well. Not to mention the issues in the Mojave. While they aren't enough to cause the PCC to fall apart by any means, I don't think they'll be proactively making land grabs. If war opened up with the Azzies, however, I can definitely see them trying to take San Diego, at least. But it would take something to provoke them into a reaction like that.
-
so it's really a question of who goes first: PCC or Aztlan. and AZTLAN is a lot less stable than most would like to think...
-
Yes, but they're also very irrational at times. And they still want to reclaim their slice of Denver, which means they'd have to march through the PCC and CAS to tangle with Ghostwalker. And they're seriously considering it.
-
And the CAS, UCAS, PCC, and probably a Few of the NANer's are probably going to chomp at the bit on that one. not to mention GhostWalker taking a severe dislike to Azltan. Then add in the Christian rebels and the varied 'Mexican' rebels and Amazonia. Aztlan is not in a very good position to do much.
Run, gun and fun times to be had by all
-
Well, they are flushed with success from taking out Sirrug with their 'anti-dragon' weapon. So they might make the move against Ghostwalker and re-establish themselves as 'the nation to be feared' toward the PCC and the CAS by making a move right away to reclaim their original hunk of Denver, (if not the whole enchilada), and you know what they say.... Desperation can lead to destruction. (Having them kick off World War III could easily be in the 5th Edition's story arc). ::)
-
I'm going to call it here, in the 2076 elections Ghostwalker will be elected president on a surprisingly effective "Don't make me eat you" platform. Opening up politics for all of dragonkind.
-
What's so important about Denver anyway? It gets treaded like Berlin after WWII, but was an actual border.
I thought Denver was wholly within the CAS.
-
It lies between the Sioux nation and the Pueblo Corporate Council territory, with the UCAS and the CAS at a distance of 2~3 Seattle lengths and Aztlan a while to the south.

Huh.
So it is Berlin then.
Stupid fan map.
-
Maybe things changed from previous editions? I'm using the map at the end of SR4a. You'd have to ask the oldtimers if the borders near Denver have changed much since 1e.
-
It's always been situated between PCC and Sioux.
-
The CAS used to have the territory surrounding the city as "it's" territory of North America's Berlin. It was late to the show and got the scraps.

Not quite. The USA held a big chunk of territory; when the CAS split off and the UCAS formed, they decided they were both 'signatories' of the Treaty, and so split the old USA territory. It officially still being USA/UCAS, the former took the 'good half', and basically stuck the CAS with the Aurora Barrens - presuming I remember where the Aurora Barrens are, of course.
That all changed when Ghostwalker first came to town, 'cause the CAS helped him kick ass, and so got Downtown, which Aztlan had previously held ...
