Title: [OOC] Stars So Bright
Post by: Crash_00 on <07-03-11/2027:57>
I'm looking to start up a game set in Seattle. I'm wanting starting characters to be new to the biz. How they got into is of course up to you, but the runs will start out extremely easy for low powered characters and steadily advance.

Starting Availability is 8, with 400 BP characters and no more than 30 points spent on money. I don't mind high combat skills as long as the character has a background to support them, same thing with spells. Characters get 2*Cha as free points for contacts.

An additional note, I don't allow Softweave armor, and I allow non armored long coats and fashion suits for 30% of the armored version price. (So 210¥ for a non-armored lined coat to hide your weapons under).

I'll run for up to five characters. I intend to do updates once or twice a days most of the time, so if you can't keep this up, please don't try to play.

Cast of the Shadows

1. Chrona --- Nameless --- Human or Elf / Ambush+Infiltration(Disguise)
2. Larzarus --- Oni --- Ork /Ex-Ganger (Combat)
3. benhatt ---   Boosts --- Human/ Rigger
4. Onion Man --- Pig --- Human / Ex- Security Guard
5. Xzylvador? --- Rafa --- Ork / Sam+Infiltration
6. Farothel ---  Critter --- Ork/ Hunter+Face
7. Ethan  ---- Doc Uzi --- Human/ Mage

I think Heratic passes this... but... I don't think I can handle being the crazy Chulos Torturer in a real game.
I'd be interested if not for the gear restrictions, none of my other characters pass and I'm out of ideas, so oh well =_=
Goodluck with the game, I'll be back if I think of anything.

I can create what ever is needed. Right now I would think about a Ex-Ganger Combat Adept or Cyber Samurai (for latter I have to check the Avialability of some Cyber/Bioware again).

Do you have any character type restrictions? I might go for an Infected, Probably a Ghoul.

I'm be interested in playing.  I really like the idea of starting low and working up.  I can definitely keep up with a one or two posts a day schedule.  Is there a non-combat skill maximum?

I'd play.  It'd give me an excuse to work up a gun adept or something.

I don't have any restrictions on what race you play, and you can be infected if you want, just keep in mind the social restrictions that come with it. There arn't any skill minimums, but with only being able to spend 200 on attributes and 30 on gear, most characters should come out with some decent skill sets. I usually tailor my campaign strongly to the characters in it, so just make sure you've got a solid backstory that supports your skills and qualities and I'm usually fine with it.

Just to clarify to things beforehand, on the posts per day. If the game slows down because someone hasn't posted recently, I'll take on the person's character till they start posting again or the current run is over. If I'm going to be gone for a few days, I'll give everyone a heads up beforehand (and I appreciate the same from anyone playing). If a player is gone for more than a week without posting (or letting me know) or repeatedly goes multiple days without posting, I'll drop them and bring in an alternate.

Also, I havn't run a game on here before, just a few yahoo groups games in the past for Deadlands. The general way I do it is I make all the roles and post the hit results, if you want to spend edge to boost the results before hand, let me know when you state the action. If you want to spend it afterward, let me know and I'll update my descriptions.

In addition, for combat, I usually declare what mooks are doing to begin with just to speed things up (do this irl too) and unless its something they can't complete (such as shooting at the mage that is now behind a wall), its what  they do on  their action. I give detailed descriptions of each actions results usually and then after each round of combat (since pbp takes longer than irl) I usually will post a descriptive summary of the round just as a refresher and to get everything in one place.

I'll toss a post up on here later with a little more background to the campaign's atmosphere so that everyone interested has something to chew on while making their characters.

I'd be much more comfortable making my own rolls, we usually use http://invisiblecastle.com/ its reliable and lets a gm check everything.

Recent Events

Gang Violence
Over the past eight months, the intercity gangs have become increasingly more
competitive, violent, and brutal. Through in fighting and turf wars, the gang
population in the city has dropped to nearly sixty percent of what it was a year
ago, but yet gang violence has doubled with the remaining population seemingly
always active. Over three hundred civilian deaths can be related to
gang violence in the past six months, and the citizens of Seattle are bordering
on riot to get answers as to why Knight Errant, their new city security, doesn't
seem to be causing the slightest dent.

The Marcus Simms Murder
Nine months ago the young orc Marcus Simms, son of Anthony Simms head of the
Lonestar Prison Management for Seattle, was killed during an undercover Knight
Errant sting operation. At first he was chalked up as another ganger wiped out
in the drug raid, but after his identity was discovered and an extensive autopsy
was performed, medical personnel judged this scenario unlikely. He had no gang
markings, no drugs in his system, and his wounds (three close range pistol
wounds to the chest) were not caused by any weapons belonging to the dead
gangers or drug lord. Currently one of the undercover officers is on trial
for the murder of the kid and two more are suspended for suspicion of
involvement until the investigation is closed.

Knight Errant Reformation Project

Trying to become more accustomed to their new project of defending an entire
city, mostly from itself, Knight Errant is in the process of restructuring its
operating processes in the city. At the moment the corporation is being split
into the following six branches: L.E.P. (Law Enforcement Patrol), RRT (Rapid
Response Team), T.R.U. (Tactical Response Unit), A.T.R. (Awakened Threat
Removal), and T.R.T. (Terrorist Response Team), C.D.C (Central Dispatch Center).

Each branch has its own agenda and independently operates while monitoring and
responding to orders given through the Central Dispatch Center.

In addition, with the new Knight Errant Armaments subsidiary of Ares manufacturing
a new line of weapons and armor specifically for each branch to do perform its
role at maximum efficiency, it seems that Knight Errant may become a force to be
reckoned with. Unfortunately, the reorganization has yet to bear any fruit and the
public is skeptical at whether it ever will.

"Good evening Seattle. For those of you who don't tune in often, I'm Wendy Lane
and tonight I've got two very special guests here with me, Mr. Jameson Drake
from the HOPE campaign and Senior Chief Hans Ellis from Knight Errant. We'll
start things of with you Mr. Drake."

"Well to be honest with you Wendy I'm still a little shocked at everything that
has happened recently. When the Governor took office and decided to switch out
our law enforcement contract, we down at HOPE (Humanity Opposed to Political
Evasion) thought it was just another attempt to find a scape goat for any faults
during his first term. Here we are, it’s been two and a half years, and crime is
at an all-time high despite the end of the tempo riots. Gang violence hasn't
been this high since back in '53. The switch over cost the tax payers millions
and what we want to know from the Governor is simply this, 'What is Knight
Errant doing to be considered an asset over Lonestar?' and 'Why is Brackhaven
refusing to comment on the current crime spree?' In times of crisis we need to
know our government is there for us."

"All interesting points there Drake, while I can't speak for all of NewsN..."

"Well I'll answer the first one of those right now Wendy. The switchover wasn't
just costly for the taxpayers. A decent chunk of the bill got passed over to
KE also. Part of our problem with confronting the criminal element of the city
was wrong equipment for the job. Knight Errant has been in the private sector
long enough to make running a city feel like a new mission. We're proud to
announce the founding of Knight Errant Armaments, a subsidiary of Ares that
researches and develops armaments and armor for law enforcement as its main
priority. This time next month, every officer on the street will be armed with
a brand new load out designed to take out any scumbag in the city that puts a
hard working taxpayer’s life at risk. As for Brackhaven, he hired us to take care
of the crime spree and that includes the physical and political messes caused by
it."

"Well if you're going to be answering the questions tonight Hans, what can you
tell us is being done about the rampant corruption in your company? Our sources
tell us you can't take a piss in a KE office without splashing it on three rats
and a mole. And how has the Marcus Simms trial been developing?"

"The Marcus Simms incident was unfortunate for everyone involved, but we have no
reason to think that it was the targeted attack that the media is claiming. All
of the officers involved are on suspension and even if it was intentions, their
are rotten apples in every organi..."

The camera statics out as an explosion roars through the speakers, and just as
the view begins to tilt the connection goes black. Error 404: Channel Not Found.

After ten seconds the scene lights back up to a VR version of the NewsNet set pops
up. The avatar of an aging orc sits in Wendy's place. "It is with great
satisfaction that I announce, the trial of Knight Errant has begun. A new age has
arrived for Seattle." Error 404: Channel Not Found.

Ten more seconds and the original signal comes back on line. This time the NewsNet
set is in shambles. Light fixtures hang from the ceiling, walls are bowed in and cracked,
and a disheveled Wendy Lane is holding the camera staring out of your screen. “This is
Wendy Lane from NewsNet reporting live from our Downtown offices. A bomb just ripped
through our building leaving at least three confirmed dead, Senior Chief Hans Ellis among
that toll and Jameson Drake is clinging to life. We’ll return after this short break.”

[This is just some general background for 2073 in Seattle in the campaign, along with the NewsNet
report from earlier this week that everyone is still talking about.]

I don't mind using Invisible Castle, I'll look into it more tomorrow. It seems very easy to hack the results you want from first glance, but thats probably just the computer scientist in me. On that note, anyone interested in playing, just post your characters here in the thread when you create them.

What's the effects of the Born Rich or Restricted Gear qualities? Or are they banned entirely?

As for Invisible Castle: I' really advice using it. I'm not against GM doing rolls for players that are done behind the screen or to speed things up; but if you make sure that all players use an Invisible Castle account and always roll using their character's name and describing the roll, it's really easy to spot cheaters by just trying the character name in the search box. (That is, unless they actually hack the website, but that seems going a bit far.)

There is no restricted gear quality for the campaign. As for Born rich, it will just increase the number of points you can spend on money by 10 (so 40 total).

Can I have a Changeling (SURGE 2) with Shiwa Arms + Fangs, Extravagant Eys (Yellow) + Striking Skin Pigmentation (Blue, full body)?

I thought, since we already have a ghoul another freak won't mind.

I agree with Chrona, I would much rather make make my own rolls. I mean not for the secret do-you-notice-it-or-not roll but otherwise it makes me feel like I control the fate of my character a bit more.

I'm willing to play.  I have a troll gilette with the restriction you mention ready to go, but I can whip up something else as well.  I have a couple of adepts that are easily retooled (mostly take away the high rating weapon focus).  Something else (like a mage) is also possible, but then I might need a couple of days to get the background correct (I actually should work at work from time to time, or so they keep telling me)  :o  :o .
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Onion Man on <07-04-11/1324:15>
I'm a little surprised that some of the more useful PbP features aren't integrated with the forums, like dice rolls, collapsible text, selective member text, etc.  Guess I got spoiled over at Myth-Weavers (even though we only used them as a home base for running skype games).

I've thrown a little spit and polish onto what I'd be interested in playing (haven't really addressed any rules as of yet though).  Still-unnamed-guy is a street level corporate disaffected.  He worked as an industrial security guard and maintenance technician for Marigold Private Security back in '68-'69, mostly warehouse jobs with very little action and excitement, in fact the most exciting thing he'd ever done on the job was call in to Lone Star.  When Lone Star announced the acquisition of MSP in September of '69, Still-unnamed thought life was about to get a whole lot better for him, better pay, better assignments, a real corporate gig.  That's when Knight Errant won the city security contract.

It didn't take long for the other shoe to drop.  Lone Star had taken ownership of MSP and had just lost their largest security customer in the region.  The corp was downsizing and when you squeeze a pear, it's the bottom that falls out.  With fresh purchases and a nicer apartment quickly burning away his cred, new blood from out-of-town Knight Errant types flooding the market, and a bitter resentment of both KE and Lone Star, unnamed did what could be done to struggle through the next few years, staying honest with his clean, UCAS SIN to protect.

It's likely been about 2 years since the bottom fell out, and times have been lean.  Lean enough where it was time to reach out to an old friend from back in the MPS days and inquire about a little work under the tables and in the shadows...

If you have a spot for one more, please count me in. I'll give up my spot to a newcomer who isn't playing a game though.

Question: Would it be okay to have a late-teen character? Say 17 or higher? And would 750 Karmagen be okay?

Well so far, 7 have shown interest.
1. Chrona --- Ghoul Combat
2. Larzarus --- Shiva Adept
3. benhatt ---   Rigger
4. Onion Man --- Ex- Security Guard
5. Xzylvador? --- Sam/Infiltration
6. Farothel ---  Hunter/Face
7. Ethan  ---- Rigger/Hacker or Mage

If everyone is wanting to play, I can make the exception and run it for seven people, but I want everyone using the same 400 BP system for building with the rules from the first post.

Larzarus, you can play whatever you want, but keep in mind that the rarer you are, the easier it is to track you down in the city. (For some reason I picture that character being kept in the van and occasionally being let out when someone calls out "send in the gimp")

Ethan, its going to be beginning runners so feel free to make whatever character you want to play within the rules I set out. I can easily see someone from a lower part of town getting into the biz earlier than that even, especially if they're a troll or an orc.

I've got the current list of possible characters people have suggested up next to the player names, I'll edit it as we get more concrete info. I love the character concept Onion Man, and I can't wait to see the stats you come up with.

I'm going to post a list of contacts in Seattle. Feel free to create you own if you want, but if you don't want to mess with fleshing them out it will give you a list to choose from. In addition, I'm going to give a fixer for free to everyone, I'll include the details on him with the contact list.

Looking at it more, I'll use Invisible Castle for active player rolls during the campaign, but for anything I consider to be passive (perception, detection spells, ect.) and the bad guys I'll make the rolls.

[Now that I've been over that, I won't start the game itself until Friday or Saturday, I'm going to be out of town for a funeral most of this week.]

Yeah,I thought about getting a wide camoflauge rain pancho  to hide the second pair of arms and also take as negativ quality something less visible like Berserker (although this can be a little bit dangerous for the rest of the time)

Chrona: How would your ghoul hide that he is a ghoul?

So far I see a 3 combat characters (or four, depending what the ghoul will be like).  I'll keep the gillette for now, but I'll have a look tomorrow for something more support like in case it's necessary.

I have a concept here already:

Born into a Filipino family that had already taken "refuge" in Hong Kong, specifically in Kowloon. Through a combination of debts, connections, and luck he was employed in one of the smuggling operations where he showed that he had a natural talent as a driver or pilot. Crash 2.0 was an opportunity for him--as the world went to hell he, along with a few other smugglers, made for the shinier shore of Seattle. He managed to grab a refugee SIN, awarded post-Crash as a grab for votes, and moved his family into the small filipino community near (but not in) Redmond.

With a Refugee SIN all but worthless in getting legit jobs, he turned to petty theft before lining up several jobs as a delivery boy for a few street fixers and low-rung criminals. A street gang claimed a toll for him to pass through on a delivery once; he sliced the troll leader's arms off as he sped by on his bike. Since then, he's worked less as a delivery boy and more as a "messenger" sent to people and places to "deliver a message".

His name is Antonio Gonzaga. He turned 17 in February 28, 2074.

He has refused work for anyone related to the yakuza. In fact, he goes out of his way to avoid anything related to japan. More than a few japanese street toughs have disappeared along his routes.

(He is a combat character too, but has some potential as a face (currently 7 dice, can be redone to have 9 easily). Has Hacking/EW at 4 too, and is a Rigger.)

The following is a list of fleshed out contacts in Seattle that you can feel free to pull from. Please Note that everyone gets #8, Ready Eddy (A fixer in Touristville), as a free contact (Connection:3 / Loyalty:2). The contacts have a listed connection value and you can buy their loyalty at whatever you want it to be. Just make sure to come up with a good reason for it and remember, the better friend a contact is, the more they want from you as well. Feel free to increase Eddy's Loyalty with build points as well if you want.

CONTACT LIST
1.   Larry Bale
Connection: 2-4
Location: Tacoma Docks.
Russian Human – Vory Arms Dealer
Larry is an arms dealer with Russian ties that operates right off the docks. His knowledge on firearms is second to no one. He has access to a workshop within twenty four hours travel of Seattle and a facility in Russia if he needs it.

Larry is a very brutal man and mixed with his general paranoia this makes him very dangerous when angered. He always keeps at least three bodyguards with him at meets, usually Russian orks armed with an assortment of SMGs and ARs. Meets always take place where he specifies and in a location that favors him if the deal goes south. He prefers the docks where he can make an easy getaway in a speedboat.

Outside of the biz, Larry is a Combat Biking fan. He loves the blood and violence of the sport. His favorite team is the Renton Renders.
Note: Players can buy Larry Bale at any level of connection between 2 and 4. This level will show how much Larry trusts the character and will determine what kind of gear Larry is willing to “find” for the character.

2.   Jerry Bale
Connection: 2-4
Location: Tacoma Docks.
Russian Human – Vory Implant Dealer
Jerry’s trade is the transferring of cyberware and bioware and he does a damn good job at it. He doesn’t have many qualms about cutting it out if he needs to and he never asks questions about where it came from. The only time he refuses a body is if it’s a friend or a member of the Russian Mob.

Jerry is much more laid back than his brother Larry, but even more detached from his humanity. He enjoys watching animals feed and one of his pass times is to watch the sharks after he chums all the evidence of his “harvesting”. He always sets the locations for meets because his brother insists on it, and usually Larry and his bodyguards provide protections for the meets.

Jerry’s other interests are also very different from Larry’s. He enjoys fine food, fine wines and fine music. He likes to follow politics as well, but he always feels that life is better back home in Russia.

Note: Players can buy Jerry Bale at any level of connection between 2 and 4. This level will show how much Jerry trusts the character and will determine what kind of gear Jerry is willing to “find” for the character.

3.   James Turner
Connection: 2
Location: Patrols the Renton District.
UCAS Elf – Knight Errant Patrol Officer
James is a normal patrol officer in Renton. He doesn’t have a lot of pull with the officials, but if he declares an area quiet or clear, then most other patrol officers will pay attention.

James just re-entered life as a bachelor after a rough divorce. He enjoys nights out on the town and the general clubbing atmosphere.

4.   Lelu Sheirka
Connection: 3
Location: Unknown, contacted through a Comcode or AR mail.
Indian Orc – Decker
Lelu is a Seattle based decker good at getting into Corp Security files, travel plans, and maintenance schedules. She’s good at manipulating data files and copying them when need be.

She loves the thrill of gossip and enjoys being tossed scraps of corp data for prototypes and CEOs dirty secrets. She used to be a runner, but after a bad job that left her with a paralyzed leg, she sticks to collecting data while hooked in from cyber cafes.

5.   Elley Conner
Connection: 5
Location: SeaTac Division HQ in Downtown.
Irish Human – F.B.I. Corporate Investigator
Elly is a FBI Corp Investigator in charge of at least twelve undercover field agents. If there are wrong doings going on in a corp, she is the one in the position to know the most.

Elley Conner has also played the part of “Johnson” when she needs evidence that she can’t get her hands on because of those damned extraterritoriality laws.

6.   Suzo
Connection: 2
Location: North Tacoma Tattoo Parlor, lives in upstairs apartment.
Japanese Human – Yakuza Tattoo Artist and Drug Dealer
Suzo is a tattoo artist in North Tacoma at the “Zen Dragon Parlor” with ties to the Yakuza drug trade. His clients are usually Yakuza soldiers, but he has the occasional normal citizen wander into the shop as well. He lives above the low rent apartment above the shop and spends most nights watching old trideos and eating junk food.

7.   Mira Cantella
Connection: 2
Location:  Dispatch HQ
Latina Dwarf – Knight Errant Dispatcher
Mira is a low wage dispatcher at the Central Dispatch Center. She works 8 PM to 8 AM shifts every weekday and every fourth Saturday. Five years ago she would have turned in anyone offering her a payout in a heartbeat, but her husband died. Now she’s a single mother working between 60 and 70 hours a week just to make ends meet and has nothing extra to spend on her two boys.

8.   Ready Eddy   (FREE CONTACT)
Connection: 3
Loyalty:2
Location: Bar Owner in Touristville, Redmond, lives upstairs.
UCAS Human – Fence/Fixer
Ready Eddy owns “Ready Eddy’s”, a bar in the Touristville part of Redmond, meaning that it’s the seediest hangout most corp types would ever set foot in. He prides himself on keeping the place dimly lit with lots of shadowy side booths. Despite the location, Ready’s food is decent (although over priced) and the drinks are good if you aren’t too opposed to spit shined glasses.

Out of the back room Ready is willing to deal with just about any standard loot a man can offer. He doesn’t deal in data or prototypes, those are just too sophisticated for his usual clientele, but guns, armor and the other standards of the trade are just as much currency as nuyen is to him.

9.   James Ellis
Connection: 4
Location: Burger King in Touristville, Redmond.
CAS Human – Decker/Forgery Expert
James Ellis (doubtful that it’s his real name) is an ace at creating false sin’s, company ids, and DOT tags and plate registries. He’s not bad at hacking into other systems either, but his specialty is by far in his abilities to grant people and their items a new slice of history. His work isn’t the cheapest by any means, but if quality is what you’re after, you can’t find any better. He also tends to buy any old credsticks or commlinks that runners manages to come across in their biz, and has the means to “clean” gear of those pesky RFIDs.

10.   “Timmy” Barnes
Connection: 1
Location: Redmond Abandoned Meat Packing Plant
German Troll – Gang Leader
Timmy is the leader of the “Redmond Choppers”, a biker gang known for their use of meat cleavers and axes. The gang has about three dozen members with about two dozen bikes. They are housed out of an abandoned Meat Packing Plant in Redmond. The Redmond Choppers are paid by Johnny Mancuzo to provide security to his property holdings in the area.

Johnny rents out the offices in the back of the meat packing plant where the choppers usually crash. The neighborhood is rough and is known as THE place to be to hear the latest in the thrash genre of music.

Timmy has also been known to gather up the calvary and run distraction for runners in the past. The Choppers expect repayment, but care little if its in nuyen or a couple dozen pizzas and a keg.

11.   Wendy Lane
Connection: 4
Location: Anne Hill, Downtown
UCAS Human - NewsNet Reporter
Wendy is a news reporter for NewsNet Channel 11. She usually does the early morning shows, but is striving to get into the big leagues. She’s a social bug and knows how to fit in with nearly every crowd.

She hired runners to gather some secrets on a dirty congressman a few months back and they  came through in spades. The scoop was so good it earned her a pay raise and a promotion in the ranks at her company. She’s realized that these “deniable assets” are just as good of “friends” to keep around as her corporate executives.

12.   Billy “The Kid” Kidman

Connection: 2
Location: Owns a clinic with a backroom in West Tacoma.
CAS Dwarf – Implant Surgeon/Street Doc
Billy is a cyber implant surgeon that operates out of “The Wounded Duck Trauma”, a small clinic in West Tacoma near the docks. Billy is an ace at implanting and can even patch up wounds fairly well and is known to offer extremely competitive prices. He also sells medical equipment and gear to those runners who are smart enough to ask for it.

Billy lives two blocks down from the clinic, and while he isn’t always happy about it, any runners who have his number will get serviced in the back room after hours with just one phone call. He has three nurses that are also on the “extracurricular” team and help out with the emergency situations, but you can expect to pay premium rates for such treatment.

13.   Miles Lawson
Connection: 3
Location: Christopher District in Renton.
African Elf – Security/Surveillance Expert/Dealer
Lawson is an African elf that takes residence in one of the rougher parts of Renton. He deals in Passkey’s, Sequencers, Recorders and all other security and surveillance measures and countermeasures.

Miles runs with the “Grey Wraiths”, a street gang centralized in South Tacoma and gets most of his merchandise from boosting local shipments and deliveries. Miles never buys electronics, but he will usually point people in the right direction to offload them.

14.   Johnny Mancuzo
Connection: 5
Location: South Tacoma Casino “Pin Stripe Elite”.
Italian Elf – Mob Affiliated Fixer
Johnny is Italian Elf moved into Seattle eight years ago. He’s with the mob and makes no effort to hide the fact. His network of contacts is truly staggering and he can get just about anything for the right price. He also deals with properties and owns over a dozen houses and apartments throughout the city as well as controlling several mob warehouses.

15.   Cari Banks
Connection: 2
Location: Healing Center in East Tacoma near a Public Park.
Gnome – Snake Shaman
Cari is a Shaman that works at an organic healing center, “The White Moss”, in East Tacoma near the Fellingham Park. She works, lives, and meditates at the center and is almost always willing to treat the injured for the right “donation”. She is not particularly stubborn about price but insists that her work provide a little funding for the shelter.

16.   BlinX
Connection: 1
Location: Roams around, always meets at Ready Eddy’s.
Dwarf – Mage Private Eye
BlinX is an ex-security mage turned private eye. He’s a bit loose lipped and tells everyone who will listen what he does, and what he’s done, for a living. He doesn’t do combat jobs, but he can easily defend himself when he needs to. His experience as a bouncer and security guard have made him exceptionally skilled at non-lethal takedowns and disarming opponents.

17.   Willy the Snitch AKA “Nosebleed Willy”
Connection: 1
Location: Ready Eddy’s Bar
Elf – Snitch/Punching Bag
Nosebleed Willy is a man who gets paid to know things. Unfortunately for Nosebleed, he doesn’t have any powerful friends or the skill set to protect himself very well, so he often winds up being used as a punching bag as “upfront payment” for his services.

Willy has often had good information on the local corps, especially the smaller players, but his info has also often turned out to be glorified gossip from time to time.

Alright, I'm in between other obligations for the day so I'll have to check out the full contacts list in more detail later, you can assume that I'll be putting in "Mari" from Marigold Private Security as a contact for whatever I name him in the end.  I'll try to focus more on armorer and mechanics skills than on hardware/software and hacking to leave that as more of a hacker/rigger role.

If we're looking heavy on awakened characters I'll look at going with cyber/bioware, otherwise my ex-security tech is looking like a gun/mech adept, probably with a wide variety of general skills to reflect a diverse recent job history before turning to the shadows.

Edit/Addition: Where and how do you want characters to be submitted/posted?  I've been noodling around my ex-security tech and will probably have a 95% completed version tonight sometime (I figure I'll post it here unless I've heard otherwise, not the massive points-cost filled lists I normally put in character creation, but the character sheet from FastJack).

I also have a question for the other players... do we intend to run these missions hot or stun damage only.  I'll probably design him with both in mind with a lean towards non-lethal, but I hate to show up a table armed for bear and find out the other players are using tear gas and stun rounds, or vice versa.

Just post the characters up on here for now. As for the lethality, its up to you guys whether you want to go non-lethal most of the time or not, but I highly recommend having at least one non-lethal means of take down.

We just can buy some gel-ammo and we are fine.
My character has closed combat skills and has a slab, deadly weapons for all four hands are so expansive.

Especially when you buy up 3 ambidextrous qualities and go one handed for each.  In theory you could get it twice and deal with two long-arms or assault rifles, but that's the sort of number crunching that takes GM approval....

We're fairly combat-heavy yes?

I hope you guys can at least fit in a Hyundai Shin-Yung. I'll be toning down my character's combat skills slightly since you guys seem to have that covered well. My fella's a mundane too.

Yeah, I'll end up fairly combat oriented.  If all goes well in shopping there ought to be another seat in the van/truck that Orson (He has a name now) will be purchasing (with an armorer shop in the back of either).

Background: Abahl is half japanese, half indian, but was born in south India where he lived for the first part of his life. He had the blue skin color from his father and due to the indian cast system, he and his mother where mostly treated like slaves. With 10 years, Oni left India, working here and there on cargo ships and finally came to Denver with 12.

After some struggle in the beginning he survived with some small break-ins but was quickly caught by a local gang, the Bloody Bat (they usually use red baseball bats as weapons). Abahl was beaten very heavily but managed to fight back in the end.

Abahl was allowed to join the Bloody Bats and worked his way up to the second hand of the boss, Emilio Konno. The gang was a group of around 10-12 people mostly orks, trolls and two or three human. The gang's usual business were break-ins, minor smuggle around the city and, if someone paid them or if they got bored, the demolition of 'things'.
Since they all thought that Abahl came from Japan, he was called Oni.

After a heavy gang war, the Bloody Bats were reduced to around 3 members, Oni, Emilio and another guy, a ork named Bosh. Without any more members the gang was disbanded and Emilio and Bosh joined another gang, “Redmond Choppers”. Oni sometimes visit them but started to do his own business in the shadows, specially to mix up some of the old rival gangs which destroied the Bloody Bats in the end.

Appearance: So far, only the members of the Bloody Bats know about his second pair of arms and Oni want to keep it that way. He usually wears a wide Camouflage Rainsuits which covers his other arms very good. He didn't care much about his blue skin and don't try to hide it.

Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright

Exactly the reason I turned around and went cyber/bio.  1IP can be enough, 2IP is plenty, 3 and 4 turn you into the slow moving melee guy that takes 3 IPs to rush into hand to hand.

That and I've never tried to make anything with 8R as the highest availability (*F I suppose, but Orson has just finished his downward spiral into the shadows and isn't quite ready for items he can't even get a permit for.

Orson is a work in progress.  I'll just keep editing him here as changes get made rather than a full repost.  Got to figure out how I'm finishing my money out, might getmyself into deby with one of the Vory too, just for kicks.

I'd like to play with  Rafa (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=2475.msg31719#msg31719).
Needs some changes because he was built with the Restricted Gear quality allowed and I've some other things I like to try, but most of it will stay.
Is there really no way a char can start with a Chameleon Suit (Avail 10)?

I'm afraid this char means another combat character with a lot of overlap, but it's the only char I can get ready in time; if this is a problem just tell me and I'll drop it.

I can adapt a mage.  She's also fairly combat oriented (ex-mercenary, even with only two combat spells) but she has those things like improved invisibility.  And I can tweak her so she's a bit more scouting oriented.  Shouldn't be too hard to do.

benhatt had mentioned that he was making a rigger.  That's why I focused away from hardware/software.  I still haven't done some of my shopping too, I may still have room to go backup hacker.

Would actually love to play a Mage but I won't get one finished in time, charbuilding takes ages for me.
Hacker & Face: already playing one in other games... Not that I wouldn't really mind playing another THAT much, but not with the same chars and building new ones, again, takes ages.
And I happened to have that combat char lying around from a different game with the same rules...
Luckily, in a group with a ghoul and other infected and a bunch of combat chars, a latino ganger with a dislike to modern society will probably not even be the most problematic character. >:)

I've decided to play something else: a paracritter hunter with secondary face abilities.  If all the riggers we're having take secondary (or even one primary) hacking abilities, we're good for about everything.

EDIT: I'll post my character tomorrow (time to go to sleep here).

If you want something over an availability of 8 just PM it to me and we'll discuss it and what it would cost. Keep in mind that gear will be available after character creation when you start making money also.

Larzarus - The character is alright, but I honestly don't think you'll last too long with Berserker. You roll a total of 4 dice for composure tests against a threshold of three. Being uncouth, I think you'd be even more prone to going berserk as you are unaware in social situation and don't know how to react when people taunt/anger (and quite possibly will mistake people making fun of you when they aren't). Have you spent all of your points yet? I have done any audits, but you look a little short point wise. Also, is the ware alphaware? I'm just asking because MR 1 is 1 point of essence and Skillwire 1 is .2 points of essence (would leave you with 4.8), going alpha would be .8 and .16 leaving you with 5.04 left.

Onion Man - I think you are missing a few knowledge skill points. Also, there is a software package in SR4A for 400¥ that has edit at 3 which would be cheaper and give you an extra point in the program. Other than that it looks great.

1. Chrona --- Ghoul Spec Ops type
2. Larzarus --- Shiva Adept
3. benhatt ---   Rigger
4. Onion Man --- Ex- Security Guard
5. Xzylvador? --- Sam/Infiltration
6. Farothel ---  Hunter/Face
7. Ethan  ---- Rigger/Hacker or Mage

The rigger I am cooking up should be ready by mid day tomorrow.  The cap on the money keeps the drone support low, but I think I should have some recon, a combat drone and some wheels.  She can also serve as a back-up hacker but won't have the offensive programs
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Onion Man on <07-05-11/2141:20>
I'm actually overspent on knowledge skills.  3 Log + 4 Int = 21 free points.  2 Professional Knowledges (5 and 4) costs 18 points.  3 Languages at 2 costs 12 more.  Going to drop the languages down to be one non-English with a dialect and I'll be back in line on points.  I mist have done the knowledge skills at a point where I had higher logic on the build.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Crash_00 on <07-05-11/2150:28>
Uhm...I believe your free points are spent on a one for one basis (at least that's how the archetypes show them in the core rules). Also, it doesn't say it is un-augmented logic when determining how many points you get so you'd get to add you Cerebral Booster in to the mix for 24 pts.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Onion Man on <07-05-11/2238:45>
Acquire Skills comes before Assign Resources in the character creation, until resources have been assigned there's no augmented value to work with (I had lots of spare time to pick brains with at Origins and order of operations seemed to be a prime subject, as was unarmed combat v two weapon melee combat).

I'll be damned about the knowledge skill points, I got so used to paying for everything in 2s that my Missions character could be even more overpowerful (thank god my build is banned now).

I'll readdres knowledge skills a bit later, I need to go turn off this WYSIWYG interface before it monsters up another character sheet, it inserted hundreds of empty tables into the sheet on my last edit :(
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Crash_00 on <07-05-11/2249:52>
Ah, I didn't realize there was an order to it. For some reason I would have sworn it says somewhere that you can do it in whatever order you want.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Onion Man on <07-05-11/2257:17>
There's not officially an order to it, but if you do things out of sequence you can really wonk up a character.  Like you could purchase an attribute at max-1, then take the negative quality that lowers your maximum attribute afterward and net 15 free BP,

To be sure, I go back and forth through the teps as I work, but I make sure I treat each step as if it had happened in sequence when I go back through and get the fine details.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Crash_00 on <07-05-11/2315:34>
Ah ok, that explains it. I always just treat every choice I make as though it were retroactive (so the quality would give me some points back and then charge me fifteen points). Then again, I have always bought gear first so I know how much money I have to buy, so it seems natural to me.

Physical Description: Najateh isn’t as heavy-set as most other Orcs and in fact is quite good looking.  Her weight is also mostly muscle, due to her work.  As she’s often outside, she doesn’t waste much time with make-up and wears her hair in a simple ponytail under a Indiana Jones style Fedora hat.  But if she puts her mind to it, she can look absolutely stunning.
Length: 1m85
Weight: 102 kg
Eyes: brown
Hair: black

background
Najateh was born as a girl in the Yoruba tribe in Lagos, which meant she wouldn’t have many chances in life.  Her first years were like every Lagotian, growing up in poverty trying to survive.  Her life was turned upside down when she turned five.  As the family had more and more problems to survive, they decided to sell her to a Cherubium (she was the best looking of the three girls).  But when they wanted to get her there, she tried to get away and suddenly she was moving a lot quicker then she should be able to.  A local priest was called in and he told that she was awakened.

That was even worse for a traditional Yoruba family, to have an awakened daughter.  But it also meant more money, as now they could sell her to the corporations.  A transaction later she was in the possession of Ares Africa.  She was brought to the city of Sekondi, where Ares had a training facility for girls like her (she was hardly the only one).  As an Orc she matured quicker than the other girls and by the age of 12 she started to master the more advanced classes.  Between her ability to quickly master languages and her adept powers, she was being trained to be a hunting guide and protector for groups hunting telesma in the rain forest.  As she could astrally perceive, she also received some training to combat spirits protecting the places the Ares people wanted to go to and with her good looks and charming personality she could also get the people out of the way (if that didn’t help, Ares could summon heavy firepower to do the trick standby).  During this period she was bitten or stung a couple of times and she became allergic to ekyelebenle and bee venom.  One of these teams she guided was lead by Jean O’Grady, a mage also looking for telesma.  She would rekindle the relationship later in Seattle, where O’Grady ran a talismonger shop at that time.

In 2068, she was transferred from Africa to Chicago, to help the Ares teams there with some problems with awakened critters.  It was quite a change for the 15 year old girl, as she was used to the African climate, and Chicago is quite a bit colder, especially in the fall.  But she adapted quickly and together with some runner teams and a firewatch team they went in multiple times to search for Royal jelly.  It wasn’t easy as close to the containment zone and the mana ebbs her powers would also weaken.  During one of these run near the end of 2071 they were attacked by one of the many gangs in the area.  Two shadowrun teams and a firewatch team pack a heavy punch and the battle was quite fierce, with many casualties on both sides.  Najateh was shot early in the engagement and left for dead as both groups withdrew.

A metahuman gang, the Orc and Troll Underground (OTU) found her and brought her back to their base.  During the following months she was nursed back to health and as thanks she helped the gang out on several errands and with her powers and good looks, she managed to get them some things they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.  But she was starting to get fed up with Chicago, having seen enough of the same during her youth in Lagos, and soon it was time to move on.  While they can’t communicate (communications into Chicago are very difficult) she still considers them good friends.  She managed to get her hands on a pickup truck and moved overland to Seattle, doing some odd jobs left and right, like crossing some borders without the guards being any wiser.  Arriving in Seattle, she sought contact with Jean O’Grady, who put her in contact with people who could get her some work, like Ready Eddy and someone who could fix her weapons.  When she was wounded, she also found a shaman to heal her through O’Grady.

You guys are probably full but if not than I'd like to play a legwork heavy technomancer, a middle-aged boring corporate drone who suddenly found himself with crazy new hacking abilities and talking and sentient programs taking a liking to him. While retaining his skill for following the paper trail and sifting through money. Not too good with on the fly hacking, but he will find out about anything you need. Or at least try to.

Not enough points.  Maybe if I ever initiate.  Although I'd rather go for those new powers in Spy Games (1000 faces: see, yesterday I was a troll, tomorrow I'll be an elf for a change).

Most of it may be out of reach for now, you'll probably have an opportunity to upgrade with the SG stuff.

Rebuilt my character with 400 BP... sacrifices had to be made, but he's close to the original concept. Will post later today once I finish tweaking the gear.

Here is my character - if there is anything I missed please let me know especially with drone sensors.

Real Name: Adriana Maria Veliz
Street Name: Boosts
Race: Human
Sex: Female
Nationality: Hispanic
Lifestyle: Middle (Apartment in Redmond, near Touristville) – 1 month prepaid
Starting Nuyen:
Physical Description:
Hair: Black (long, usually under a baseball cap)
Eyes: Black
Height: 5’3”
Weight: 122
Age: 19
Personality:

There are those people out there who are sometimes hot and sometimes cold, Boosts is always fire. She likes tricked out engines, smoking rims and expensive sound systems.  When she is behind the wheel of a car (hers or someone else’s) she is all business, she is going to get where she needs to go as quickly as possible.  Sure she might run a few lights or pull a hairpin turn, but she knows she has got the skills to make it. She likes auto-shows, cruising the streets – she wants to get noticed.

When not driving, Boosts likes the party.  She was heavy beats, a quick tempo and cheap alcohol.  She will make the rounds in her urban explorer jumpsuit (blue with yellow highlights like her car) or pop out in the latest street fashion (she likes ties).

Found the inspiration for my character from my buddy's drawing: http://www.julianlytle.com/2007/11/05/hgic/

Background

Augustine “Tools” Veliz was a small time rigger in the early 50’s.  His career ended abruptly when a run in with a malicious spirit left him completely gray haired, suspicious of magic and deathly afraid of clowns. Turning off his engines, Tools opened a small garage in Everett, settled down and hoped that his children (he had five) would stay out of the Running business.  He seemed to get his wish with all of children except for his youngest – Adriana.

Adriana seemed always to be in trouble.  She would regularly sneak out, heading down to Redmond – running with go-gangs, partying all night, etc. She just loved getting the most thrills out of life as possible. Yet her father could never hold much against her because a) she was his youngest, his “Angelita” and b) she was the only one of his kids who had any interest in cars and auto mechanics.  To say that Adriana had an interest is putting things lightly, it was like she was born with a pair of sparkplugs in her mouth.  Adriana could just look at any vehicle and intuitively know how it worked; what it was capable of.  When she wasn’t out getting into trouble, Adriana would spend most of her hours at his shop, learning the tricks of the mechanic trade.  It was this freedom and knowledge that got her in trouble.

At 15, Adriana got involved with a car thief ring that would steal cars in the North Seattle area.  She learned a little about hacking cars and the like.  At 16 she was arrested, earning herself a criminal SIN, and the disappointment of her family. Her father made her promise to stop stealing cars and, while she has kept that promise, she took up racing them instead.  First it was driving for others and then it was driving her own heavily modified Hydundai – “Faye Valentine” (Adriana is a bit of an Anime junky). Using her winnings, Adriana picked up a used SUV, a scooter and moved out of her parents’ house, although her family (parents, siblings, nephews/nieces) still requires a lot of her time.

Recently, Adriana has decided to follow in her father’s running footsteps, hopefully with more success.  She met Ready Eddy at his bar and he agreed to start setting her up with jobs. She has also formed a “friendship” with Jake Ellis, when he helped her gat a number of fake driver’s licenses. He has also started giving her tips on her Matrix persona, guiding her into an ok novice hacker. Adriana’s newest purchases are few drones, although she is still not completely comfortable using them.  She understands that it makes her more marketable, but not really her forte.  She feels bad about not telling her family about the life she has just started, but that guilt is deafened by a heavily revving engine.

Nobody else needs to pick up a vehicle anymore, we have more then enough (6 in total, although 3 are from the same person).  We can arrive on the scene with a Rover 2068 and two pick-up trucks.  Although I took a Hilux X, it has the stats of the GAZ-P179, but I just wanted to name it something else and I've always been a fan of Toyota (that episode of Top Gear where they try to crash the Hilux is one of their best).

So if we have any trolls, no problem, they can ride in the back of one of the pick-up trucks.

That's good, because my character's broke!

Originally my character had a Revolution monocycle with a sidecar and a Renraku Manservant (steampunked) riding there, but I lacked the funds. Pity, it was rather awesome.

Another bike... we're practically a Go-gang.

How do you end up with 5.52 Essence?  Even with deltaware, Muscle Replacement 1 would leave you at 5.5.  Just curious.

Just waiting on Ethan's character and going over everyone else's to make sure I have good understanding of what each character can and can't do, and what the group as a whole can manage.

Also waiting to so if Xzylvador was wanting to modify Rafa a little and play.

Larz, I still don't get where your essence total is coming from. Muscle Replacement is 1 per rating and skillswires is .2 per rating.

Onion, everyone gets Cha * 2 in free contact points in addition to Ready Eddy, so if I'm doing my calculations right you've got a few extra points.

He woke up in a healing centre with no recollection of who he is--word is he was carried in by a spirit who disappeared once he was admitted. That he's a magician becomes blatantly obvious after a few minutes with him, he's wrapped in tasteful fetishes. For some reason I put Orson together on notepaper instead of wordpad, and I really don't feel like auditing him completely tonight (I have tonight and tomorrow during the day to be prepared to kick off a campaign with Emergence).

I'd comfortably go with either adding some contact points or just going without them, whichever works better for you.

Name: Rafael Ruiz
Alias: Rafa
Race: Ork
Sex: Male
Nationality: Aztlan
Lifestyle: Low
Karma Left/Spent: 4 Left, 4 Spent.
Money: 1.680 nuyen.
Physical Description: To follow.

Personality/background Rafael Ruiz, born in a small motorboat lying in Buenaventura's harbor, Aztlan (former Columbia), 2051. He grew up traveling around with his parents, working for the Cartels, smuggling drugs to port cities north.
February the 25th, 2062, the family had just arrived at a drop-off point in Seattle they'd used frequently when they were ambushed by a group of men who gunned them and ran off with the delivery. He passed out when the shooting started and the blood and brains of his parents splattered all over him.
If anyone ever tried looking for him, he doesn't know or really care, chances are a lot more effort had been put into finding who took the package than in finding just another lost Latin kid in a very bad neighborhood.
Members of the Chulos gang found the boy a couple of hours after the ambush and took him in their ranks, always able to use extra hands dealing out drugs.
He quickly put the death of his parents behind him, the streets just didn't give you enough time to feel sorry for yourself. Yeah, he had a family to protect him, but that really meant more fighting than less: fighting other gangs for territory and fighting your 'family' for a respect, certainly with his looks.
So he learned fighting the same way he learned most things in life; the hard way, with a lots of bumps and bruises. It became an obsession to him, a way to vent his anger and to express his joy. But there were always bigger and stronger, or just more, guys ready to knock him down, so he learned two other lessons: "if you can't beat them fair, beat them another way" and "live to fight another day".
Sure, sometimes he ran and sure, they'd laugh. Only to get beaten the crap out of them a couple of days later, in an ambush staged from shadows, rooftops, anywhere. So they didn't laugh for much longer and Rafael started getting some well earned respect.
A while later he learned another lesson, the hard way. The saying "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight" applied to fists as well. He bit off more than he could chew during a raid on a nearby mall and got into a fight with a group of security personnel. It all went well, as always, until two of the guards pulled a gun and shot him point blank. Luckily the rest of the gang had his back and managed to get him out and patched up. Halfway through recovery, Rafael went looking for a gun, any gun. It was a dirty way to fight, not as honest as real combat, but without it you were dead.
Most of his friends used pistols, uzi's or shotguns. It seemed messy to him, compared to real fighting. So they mockingly came up with a discarded army rifle. He'd seen snipers in the movies, killing people before they were even aware they were under attack; that he could get into. So he practiced, tirelessly. The little money he made with the Chulos, he spent on ammo. But he became good at it: One shot, one kill, mainly because ammo was expensive.
He had the skills and the reputation and then finally got some real work. It was a public secret that the Chulos had some dealings with the Cartels, a profitable income for both of them. But in places like Puyallup, smuggling isn't the safest of professions. So Rafael got put on scouting duty, and loves every second of it. His orders, if they can be called that, are to spot ambushers and deal with them in any way necessary.
The recent increase in gang violence hasn't really frightened him much, though he's started looking for work as a 'runner on the side, hoping to find money and connections to get some better upgrades.

And those 35 XXXXX Neg. Qualities: Those not filled in yet or should we be worried you're a Ghoul + Judas, meaning: considering eating us when the time's right? :p

I love how you've all turned on me already. -ves are secret for storytelling purposes.
You'd need assensing to tell he's a ghoul, he's covered head to toe AND disguised (If I buy hits with my kit and a rating 1 mask that's 3 hits but I will roll once i have a biometric scanner).
No one will know my character, Invisable way adepts like keeping a "no profile"

qq: Do we have a face?  I'd hate to think my ex-sec tech is going to be the guy trying to talk up Johnson.

I'd operate under the theory that if we all have Ready Eddy as a contact, we're all likely to have at least a passing knowledge of eachother existence, except for maybe Chrona, from having been in and out of the Bar and Grill in the past.

Unless there's another post in the next couple of minutes, I probably won't be back on to follow up today until late tonight.  I've got a campaign kicking off with Emergence to run for a couple guys that have played some, a total novice, and one experienced player.  Zero prep work, going straight into completely unplanned pre-runs, and putting my improv hat on right now.

Orson will otherwise go along with any deal we collectively cut with Johnson, be opposed to the idea of killing active sec techs without a good fragging reason, and finish his pitcher of cheap and box of donuts.

How do you link to invisible castle so it appears to as dice and hits like you have as opposed to what I do which has the entire damn html?

If there's no magic defense of any kind, a single spirit could pretty much go to town on the four guards. I was thinking, send one into either Influence the camera watcher to go to the men's room or have it just Stunbolt him. A hacker could then take control of the cams and drone and turn them off.

Or use the drone to tranq the tiger for us. It can be Levitated to a van or something.

Assuming there's no magic, it is supposed to be an easy enough run to get our feet wet.

OOC but semi IC.  If the vet hasn't worked there in a couple weeks, assume they have at least one magician on the sec team and a spider on premises at all times.

Also, we should be assuming the maglocks are up and that the cams are thermo and ultra.

Definitely. Our Mr. J's info seems to be built on a lot of "should not be" or "isn't slated to be."  That is recipe for time table change up.   Definitely like the idea of controlling the drone into tranqing the tiger. I assume we'll figure it all out in ICC planning.

Depending on how big the cage is, the drone idea is good. Maybe the cage has already a drone gate or some air howls where we simply can shoot through.
I assume we will discuss this IC after the Johnson is gone.

Can Nowa see on the map where maintenance buildings are (specially for guards and the electricity)

Quick clarification about how the characters have been interpreting the map.  The "service road" with all the sensors and whatnot is the one that literally runs only a few meters from where Tinks is.  The "main road" is the one that leads to the parking lot and (based on my data searching) is the one that has construction going on and no cameras running.  Do I have this right?  Just want to be clear for planning purposes.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Onion Man on <07-11-11/2328:13>
THat's what I've been talking about in my posts.

The map also clearly shows pylons blocking the main gate, but a likely vehicle entrance coming off of the west parking lot and what looks like a grounds vehicles path that comes in from the baseball/football fields.  None of those look like particularly good options, but we'll wait until after we can send Doc on a little astral recon to make those judgements.  This is all going to come up in character after the Johnson is gone for sure, too.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Crash_00 on <07-12-11/0030:09>
Right, the road on the east edge of the map is the service road. The parts that look as though they would connect to other roads are really just shoulders to pull of on if you fail the automated gate pass so that Security can come evaluate the situation. Construction is going on right off of the zoo property next to the main road entrance, and the normal traffic cams at the intersection are down. near the main road (not the cameras in the Zoo). Everything on the map is zoo property. The west parking lot appears to be the staff parking lot and you can see it has automated gates as well to keep other people out. The road leading to the west just loops back down and joins the main road to exit the zoo property.

There are grounds vehicle paths, but they can really only work for golf cart and 4 wheeler sized vehicles (or Tiger Trucks).

The "river" is at a high point to the north and flows to the south, going underground at the zoo edge.

The security station is just west of Tink's cage and the animal vets and their is a guard station just northeast of the hippo camp.

It appears that all of the electrical maintenance is underground, and their is no underground schematic or building specific schematics with the map.

On another note I'm going to go ahead and make Attribute + Skill + Mods the standard for telling me what you're rolling. You can post it in text, or you can use it as the link text for the invisible castle link.

Modifying Link Test Tutorial
Using the BBC code from invisible castle roll (I'm using a test called lesson) of 8 dice would give us a unique BBC url code:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3105744/]8d6.hits(5)=3[/url]
This code has three important parts:
The Opening of the code:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3105744/]This is simply the url of page with the roll on it placed inside brackets:
Code: [Select]
[url=***** ] where the stars are the url.

The middle of the code:
Code: [Select]
8d6.hits(5)=3This is just the text you want to be displayed for the roll.

The end of the code:
Code: [Select]
[/url]This just tells it that this snippet of code is done. Its just like ending a color or font effect.

So to change a roll to look like Attribute + Skill + Mods (# of hits) we just change the middle to what we want to say. Example:
8d6.hits(5)=3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3105744/)
becomes
Lesson + Coding + Time (3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3105744/)

The code of the second example was of course:
Code: [Select]
[url=http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3105744/]Lesson + Coding + Time (3)[/url]and both links lead to the same place (since the URL is the same, just different headings for it).

As I understand, we have enough car's to come from both directions, a distraction at the main gate and another team from the east road.
And we have also at least two chars (Xzylvador's and mine) who have swimming and infiltration skills and who can come through the river.

@Orson: They just started up about two years ago. They're fairly anti-corp and mostly do contracts for HOPE and barren reclamation projects. Their about as grade school as you can get without just relying on maglocks and cams. I don't have any contacts there though.

You can pin down a few relative times you think Knight Errant won't be as active. Just after the first wave night shift change (10:30 P.M. - roughly 11:15 P.M.), just after second wave night shift change (2:30 P.M. - 3:15 P.M.), during the morning pre-shift end donut run (5:45 A.M. - 6:30 A.M.) and during the morning briefings (8 A.M. - 8:30 A.M.).

As close to the barrens as the zoo is, you are fairly sure that the night shifts will be extremely lax and slow to respond (after all who wants to chase vandals into redmond in the dark...again).

Everything on the map is zoo property, city property starts as soon as you leave the map. Yes the Grid Guide is shot all to hell in the area also. Other than the service road, there aren't any paths that can really accommodate full sized vehicles. The big problem is getting across the river. All the bridges in the zoo are only big enough for humans/metas or zoo vehicles (Tiger Trucks and Golf Carts). All the base construction for the park is almost completed. What is being done now is the addition of all the electrical and extra parts: Maglocks, Lighting, ect.

Doc Uzi:Zipping by in the astral, nothing picks up as unusual at first glance. You find the security personnel quickly and can tell they're mundane. After a few seconds you finally find the cam room and their is a spider watching the system. As you're zipping back to your body you notice a flare up by the Hippo Camp. Coming to a stop, you find that a crew of about six men are doing construction work, fitting sheets of biofiber in a grid across the Hippo Dome. You find that most of the exhibits are already housing animals, but the bigger or more exotic exhibits seem to be empty (Hippo Cages, Giraffes, Penguins). The river is full of fish, but you're not really sure what kind. The lake like body of water is home to a family of Crocodiles.

Rafa and Nameless: During your recon of the zoo, everything seems to be in state described. Checking out the construction in front of the zoo, you find your first hiccup. A Knight Errant Patrol Cruiser is parked in the center of the construction equipment. You'd guess that its their to protect the equipment, being this close to the barrens. Go ahead and make me perception rolls for surveillance (Don't forget +3 for actively searching) and let me know if you're actually wanting to go in and scout.

Rafa will look for anything high and nearby where they have to be; a building, a derrick, a tree, whatever, if it's remotely climbable, he'll do it. If he can find a position where a grapplegun can get him over the fence, so much the better.
If the best position is a crane standing in the place guarded by the cops and there's no good second-choice, lemme know and I'll see if he can sneak past 'em.

We don't need full SINs, just an RFID or AR tag identifying us as being from the company that they can scan.  Shouldn't be all that hard.  Maybe one of the hackers/riggers can even cook it up.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Crash_00 on <07-12-11/1651:26>
You'd need the AR tag and a medical license for dentistry to be able to pass yourself off. If you find the names of the dentists (its not in the medical file for Tink's) that service the zoo. To get the license fixed up in the time frame you have, it would cost about half again the normal price (150¥/rating) and could work for a rating one or two (anything more and they'd need a few days).

The river does not enter the Crocodile lake, so you can swim down it without worrying about becoming croc food.

Nameless: Scouting the perimeter you come across two areas where the hum of the fence fades away and the smell of burnt air and mist seems dampened. you'd be willing to bet, the fence is out there. You notice that it seems like there is some construction going on in the zoo that lights up on the astral, but it seems like material like biofiber.

Rafa: There are two construction cranes on the main road capable of lifting over the fence that are currently being watched by the Patrol Cruiser. You find one building on the north side that you may be able to launch a zipline from to get in by. You also notice a few spots in the fence that may be out.

Neither of you can currently see the security guards from outside the zoo.

Just to be clear, the place where the cops and the construction gear is, that's where on the map? The parking/entry?
If so, from there seems too long a path and too many camera's.

The building north of the park, could a zipline from there get me on the roof of the "SERVICE" building with Tink's cage?
If Rafa can find a place to climb said building that's out of sight/security:
Rafa Infiltration if required: Infiltration, Skill 4 + Martial 1 + Agi 6 (11d6.hits(5)=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3106414/)
Climbing: Could just buy 4 hits per pass, so 8 meters per 3 seconds. Some rolls in case you want 'em: Climbing: Skill 5 + Str 8 + Assisted (Gecko) 2 + Grip Feet 2 + Balance Augm. 1 (18d6.hits(5)=5, 18d6.hits(5)=5, 18d6.hits(5)=6, 18d6.hits(5)=5, 18d6.hits(5)=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3106421/)

And a perception from on top of the building with a good vantage point over the park: Perception (16d6.hits(5)=7) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3106410/)
Switching between normal, thermal, low light, whatever.

Will post actions IC when I know what happens here.

Cops and construction equipment aren't on the map, they are just south of the map (a road runs along the southern edge that is part of the city property) below the baseball field.

Sure it can. From the vantage point you note two cameras mounted on top of the building that holds Tinks. They are on opposite corners and arc to cover two side of the building each. On Thermal, you can see a plethora of animals across the zoo. You also note one security guard slowly walking that way.

Will post the IC tomorrow... give the rest some time to talk and talk and talk :p
More serious: How's the timeline here? Are the rest really still planning while Rafa's up on the roof? Don't know how long Nameless' trip home and back took neither.
And as for comms: I kind of did assume we all have eachother's numbers... wrong?

Beats me.  Things are happening at such different speeds and time-domains that it's stopped making sense.  The people at Ready Eddy's (or is it just me and Doc's unconscious body at this point) have declared their way through about 45 seconds of planning while other players have declared their way through traveling all around Redmond, if not all over the city, and everything seems to be happening at once.

So yeah, decide for yourselves if you're all still in the bar when you get that message.

FYI, even without Rafa's impulsive behavior, I'd much prefer some covert-op during the night to some con job at daylight.
A quick snatch&grab, two or 3 guys to drag/carry the stunned tiger and a van waiting on the street. Easy.

The non-electric parts of the fence, any near the target building?

I'm fine with fast and quiet.  Pig is mostly concerned with the likelihood of getting caught by going in with no plan at all, or a bad plan.

Metagame: I'd say forget about the front gate, breach the fence with either clippers, industrial mechanic (for more serious deconstruction), or take it out with a shaped charge and a payload of beaded microwire.  Send a spirit to take out the spider while the team blitzes the animal isolation cages.  Secure the tiger, leaving the spirit (now done with the spider) and no more than one of us to keep tabs on the area while the rest blitz through to either the garage and find/secure a creature carrier to load the tiger into or the main security hub to stun the remaining sec team.  With the cargo secured we'd then make a go either through the front lots or down the service road and make arrangements with Johnson to drop of the target.

I'm also a bit confused about the time frame thing.  I had Boosts take off (not a particularly good post either, sorry. I was on my phone trying to get a post in before RL took the evening away) because it felt like the characters in the bar had been sitting there for forty-five minutes waiting.

I'm fine going in quiet like as well.  If Jake gets back with a timeframe on the licenses/AR tag and it isn't too long we could have being part of the construction company as backup at least. I can spoof a call if that is how we decide to go.  A speeding car or "suspicious characters" could distract KE while the others go in through the cut fence. It would be just like Smokey and the Bandit except we are hauling a tiger not beer.

For you guys wanting a "legit" way into the park: Rafa (and Nameless so we could do it simultaneously?) could sabotage the two cameras on the roof... use a miniwelder or something on a wire, make it look like a short circuit. Spider makes a call to technicians, hacker intercepts the call and says a team's on a way, and in you go.
Snatch the tiger and put it in the back while someone replaces the burnt cable. "Camera's back on? Great, have a good night."
Yeah, leave Rafa to do the thinking :p

I like this plan, my entry route will be clipping the fence, meeting rafa at the building and miniwelding the circuits. Once you guys are in Rafa and I can take out the tiger's guards and locks, Doc hitting the spider. We can load up the Tiger, me and Rafa can exit through the fence, which I miniweld back together.
I can try fixing the wire fault too but I only have Hardware 1 and didn't bring my electronics kit

I can go with this plan as well.  I might be able to snag the wireless signal, Boosts is not really a hacker though.  I should certainly be able to play the part of repairwoman (Hardware 4 + Jurryrigger).  With Pig's van already set up to look like a maintenance van: he and I could just drive in with Doc and Critter in the back.  While you guys are taking out security, Critter goes back and nails the tiger with some darts.  Boosts could also jump into one of the drones with the darts to help out.

If you've got climbing gear and/or rappelling gloves, just use Rafa's entry. Straight onto the roof is still a lot safer than sneaking past the cameras. Clipping the fence sounds good as an exit, but for entry you never know if it gets spotted while we're working.

Fixing the wire: even I can do that, that's why we just melt a wire instead of doing any actual harm to the electronics (although our fake tech guy can always say something like "Man, this thing is totally fried!" to make it sound better). But we can't do the fixing you silly, we're not even there!

As for guards and spider: Depending on the indoors security, we might not even need to take them out. Face and mechanics can keep the guard(s) busy... And the spider, we took out his cams right? If there's more electronic security indoors though, we'll probably need to take him out or spoof the system. (But since they're only done with the physical security and only now starting with the electrical, we might get lucky.)

(If there's really 3 guards for the entire park, I'm guessing the two others will be checking out other places in the park. The reason you have 3 guard is to cover 3 times as much ground as one, no?)

If going the peaceful way, the "tech team" might be more useful doing the fixing and distracting the guard(s) than taking out the tiger. Anyone can stun the tiger; if you're -that- worried about using gas or S'n'S to take out the cat; just pass the Slab darts to anyone else.

You'll need to tell me to go get my climbing gear and shall we use my stealth rope so we can get rid of it after?

Also I was avoiding the zipline  as i don't ave climbing yet and with my chameleon suit i doubted i'd get caught working

Do we have a van, big enough for a tiger and not filled with a workshop? If not, you guy's at the zoo have to wait a little bit.

I actually don't feel comfortable that we have a second planning team in OCC, while IC we play in two different time zones.

Will suggest my plan IC.

The team in the bar has done some 10 minute talking,
While the rest drove through the whole city, climbed on some tree's and buildings, killed the whole zoo (imaginary) and made a complet observation.

I think the bar team has at least enough time to steal a car or something similar. In other words, when your character called the team (in your last post), the bar team is probablu on their way already.

I agree totally.  It's probably even less then 10 minutes, but ok.  I just need to know the name of those external vets, or the construction company.  We can easily come in at night as vets, as the zoo will not take any chances with their prize animal.  If it develops the least problem, they will call everybody who's necessary to solve it.

The reason I'm in favour of trying to talk my way in, is that we need to get at least one van or pick-up truck close to the tiger and it's easier to talk past the guards then to shoot them all.

For my search in the medical file, do I need to roll datasearch?  If so, what's the interval and treashold, given that I have the multitasking adept power (so I can read the file and have the conversation at the same time).

my thoughts exactly.  Try talking first and use violence (non-lethal by preference) if no other options remain.

OT here, but I basically feel like I've been punched in the jaw (all the fun of a root canal with all the budget of a basic filling), have a local game to run tonight, and tomorrow I'm taking my nephews to Six Flags with my sister, so I might be a little inactive for the next 36 hours or so.

I'll try to post at least once more tonight and once tomorrow, but things are what they are.

BTW: A reason why we should steal a van and not use our own is that we can't kill all public street cameras around the zoo, also stunning the camera man from the zoo won't be enough since the cameras are still recording. And the cops will definitly search for this van, when the find out about the kidnapping. The main road is under construction so there won't be many other cars around, specially around midnight and specially cars big enough to transport a tiger.

The plan: Try Talking first and then use violence (lethal by definition)  ;D

If we go in and snatch the tiger without any casualties or blowing anything up, it's an embarrassment for the zoo project and the sec corp, something they're a lot more likely to want to sweep under the rug than if we start killing people.  If we snatch the tiger and leave a trail of dead bodies, we'll have Knight Errant all over our nuts until we run out of edge and end up in a LoneStar prison, or worse, get a corporate clean team sent after us and end up in a shallow grave.

You can't find the external vets in the medical file he gave you, only the normal Zoo Vets. You can try looking it up on the matrix if you want to make a roll for it.

The Spider is in a building fairly close to Tink's cage.

Jake can get you some Rating 1 Vet Dentist Licenses by 9:30 PM, or some Rating 2s by 2:00 AM. He'd have to pull in outside help to rush them so fast, so it would be 150¥ or 300¥ respectively for each one.

Sorry about the time frame, it seems we're on some different time zones, so I've just been accepting what people want to do within reason and slotting it in to my table. I'll post up the time table later.

O.k. I am sticking with the plan to head over to for some drone recon unless someone calls me tells me to steal a van or something on the way.  Jacking cars is what she is known for, so if we are familiar with each others' reps, you guys should know that. Unless I am already at the zoo.  Crash_00 any info on where Boosts is?

If you don't want to do anything else before you went to the zoo, then you're at the zoo by now and still have some time for recon before you catch up where Rafa and Nameless are. (I'm calling the ghoul Nameless to make it easier for communicating things).

Truth be told, way things were going in the bar, I really didn't get the feeling that conversation was going to be over in 10 minutes.
"Only the vet names and stuff"? I ain't the GM, but data-searches on the matrix take time afaik.
--Fake SINs... the interval was 1 or 2 days, so you'd get them by the time the deadline runs out at best.
Luckily Fake licenses can be gotten quicker apparently; but you'll have to order them now and should we end up not using them, it ain't coming out of Rafa's cut.
Still apparently requires stealing cars, which also draws attention.
Then stealing the right clothes, or spending more money on outfits.

And then after you spent that time and money
- option A, go in at night: a bunch of doctors without appointment and low rating ID's which none of the guards know arrive in the middle of the night wanting to see the zoo's most prized possession.
--> Best case scenario you still have to take out the spider (and probably at least 1 guard who'll accompany you).
--> Worst case scenario: ID scan fails or caught any other way: very problematic. Run run run. Another approach B&E or quickly executed assault -might- still work, but not with the laughable security we're facing now, it'll most likely be very violent.
- option B, go in at day: at least the dentist coming in at day is a lot less suspicious still no appointment, but the ID check might be a bit less heavy. Of course you run the risk of running into any number of zoo staff who do know the doctors they usually work with -if not the docs themselves- and you still can get easily caught that way.
--> Best case scenario you still have to take out the spider (and probably at least 1 guard who'll accompany you).
--> Worst case scenario: as above, only without the time left to execute a plan B.

Meanwhile, Rafa's plan could be finished in (half) an hour and -might- not require any combat at all. Most violent way still will not be more violent than the plans described above.
IMO chances of success are higher and suspicion lower (they called you, remember?) and if during the preparations things go wrong, Rafa & Nameless could probably split before being caught and it'll probably be blamed on random vandalism, being so close to such a crappy neighborhood and all that. Still leaving plenty of time to do all the other stuff.
I must admit, the possibility of this being completely non-violent is entirely accidental. But still you "non-violent plans before violent ones" people might want to reconsider Rafa's plan really :p

Aaanyway, no planning OOC is all okay for me and I understand and even share a dislike of it, IC's so much more fun.
I just want to warn ahead of time that you could be spending several days IRL doing "15 minutes in IC" planning, only to have the plan shot to pieces when the timelines finally merge; which is something I'd prefer to avoid in a PbP and why I do like some OOC talk about where we want to be going.
Will refrain from IC posting 'til the timelines are merged though, that's why he started killing time :p

On a semi-related note: I'll be on vacation next week, monday 'til saturday-ish, probably won't be online during that time. To not delay the game, I'm okay with someone else taking over Rafa in the meanwhile... if there's any volunteers lemme know. If GM-almighty wants to do so or wants to take some other measures, that's okay too.

About Rafa's plan: How dou you get people without steath inside the zoo? As far as I understand, you want to fake a technical problem, catch the outgoing call from the zoo and send our guys instead.
-Same problem as with the dentists, we need a van from the right electronic company and  some fake permits.
-Worst case, they have a construction crew in the park so they won't call someone at all.

Maybe we should skip the talking part completely.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright

Well, your plan also calls for someone to talk him- or herself past the guards, or do you want us to simply shoot them (with stun rounds to keep the body count down).

And just one small remark: what if the spider repairs the stuff himself instead of calling a tech crew?

But your plan is also ok and I can live with it.  We might want to search for their tech support company and we will need IDs for the tech company, or we simply bluff.  Maybe the 150 nuyen IDs can work with a good bluff (probably a +1 bonus, I doubt they are going to check it all that thoroughly).  I think they will check the tech crew ID a bit less then a vet ID.  The second part is valid.  On the other hand, we can simply test it and if they have their own techs, Rafa withdraws and we try something else.  I assume he can make it look like just a malfunctioning.

What about we jam the signal of the guard at the service gate. Make some lights flicker, few minutes later we drive along with our van with a electronic company logo on it and tell the guard the spider called for us. Meanwhile the Spider is knocked out by the mage. Since everything is jammed, the guard can't call the spider or check our ID's. If the guard leaves his post to follow us, we knock him down; if not we are fine.

This could wok but our more technically inclined characters need to start rolling extended data searches to get solid info.(if you don't know for a pool of10 for example you roll 10 then 9 then 8 then 7, etc and add all the successes, you cannot glitch.)

Pretending to be an unknown and never-before-mentioned team of dentists arriving (at night) to handle the most important animal in the zoo, without it being scheduled because of an emergency procedure no one knows about that's being done without its normal caretakers present seems easier to bluff than some electricians in a van full of electrical gear arriving after a reported malfunction of electrical equipment? (Please do make place to fit in a tiger; but cats are pretty flexible, no? ;) )

The construction crew's placing magical walls, not electric security cameras. Would surprise me if it's the same company, but it's a possibility I guess. Although even then I hardly think the guys who treat -quote from SR4A- "notoriously sensitive and difficult to maintain" magical plants are the same guys who also deal with the security sensors and electrical equipment... (That might explain why the security seems so easy to circumvent.) So they'd still need to make a call.
As for the van, pig's got a maintenance van. Sounds like what we need. Not the right colors, true. But they're there when expected to be there; they're a team sent there to deal with an emergency repair, wouldn't surprise me if that's not the same guys that do the electricity during the day shift. They could be working for the company with subcontracts -any company would rather have some people there instantly and pay a little extra than risk a breach of contract for a security-system that breaks down before it's actually in use.

Agreed, if no call is made or we can't intercept the call and say something like "Hey, you're in luck, we've got some of our guys nearby who just finished a job in the neighborhood, we'll send 'em over right away." , the plan's a bust.
So yeah, worst case: the two stealth guys get out, no alarm or suspicion was raised, all other options are still open. Doesn't really seem that bad.

Problem with knocking out or jamming guards: spider or guards might notice.
Problem with knocking out spider: guards might notice.
For all we know the 4 of them are chatting over their comms the whole time.
Once we do either of those, we need to either take 'em all out quick and clean or we need to get out before help arrives.

Doesn't sound like a spider's job to me, but if he did, wouldn't that be awesome? That spider's the trickiest part of security afaik. If he logs himself out, the whole security system's even weaker than it was before, no?

"look like a malfunction": find electrical wire, melt with miniwelder, must've short circuited. Sure, CSI would find that the temperatures aren't really right and the flame seems to have come from the outside; but if a electrical wire in a brand new system melts and there's nothing else missing or damaged in the building, who's going to be very suspicious?

So uhm, does the rigger semi-hacker think he can pull it off? If no, this whole issue isn't important anyway ;)

Just a quick thing:
By no means do I intend to claim that my plans are always flawless and therefor better than anyone else's. I really hope and expect people I play with to analyze and criticize them, I promise to do the same with yours. There's pro and cons to every plan. Throwing ideas at each other and everyone looking at them from different angles and poking holes in them is the only way to find something that won't fall apart the second you try executing it...

We once had a plan to get into a DocWagon clinic without having to risk security and HTR-teams by finding a Docwagon subscriber, forcing him to OD, jam the medics that responded to this low threat situation and grap their car and have their own security spider guide us into the underground garage; which had 2 HTR teams in helicopter and armored van headed our way the moment we jammed the medics. Turns out Docwagon employees have docwagon contracts too and don't like their colleagues being assaulted.

(Of course, there's some risks you just have to take. If you worry about traffic cameras, you can never go on any run in the city. Spoof chips, morph plates and the fact that there's probably thousands of almost identical looking vehicles in the city go a long way to protect you.)

A spirit can poof behind the Spider and Influence him. He can turn off the cameras or security features and then the Spirit can then cast Stunbolt on the unsuspecting guy.

The Spirit of Man might take 2-3 casts to bring him down, but down he'd go. I'd prefer we hack into the system to turn off the security cams so that the Spider can be influenced to take a piss or something instead and be stunned in the Men's room.

okay, we should try to make some malfunctions at the fence and see what's happening. what would stop us to wait for the real electronical service and take their van? the main road is under construction so they will properly take the service road, where unfortunatly the cameras in the first section went down during the malfunction (the zoo team take care of that coincidence). then we have a car and uniforms and all the stuff. We also don't have the problem that the hacker has do roll con-skills for his phone calls, just listen to the conversation. If the electronic guy doesn't come until next day or doesn't have the right car, we can still use another plan.

the big problem right now is the time difference, the team with the van and the hacker sitting in the bar and have make plans about dentists, while your char is still on the road. how do we explain that?

GM: can you tell us when and where is everybody, I lost the count a little bit, sry.

Yeah, I probably can.  It'll definitely be a roll to use edge on.  ;D  We're talking mostly Exploit, Sniffer, and Spoof, right? Some Edit? (Pardon my ignorance on what programs do what; I don't usually play the tech.) I've got all that.  She's just not built for Matrix combat.

If worse comes to worse and she misses the grab, there is only one road leading to the zoo.  Maybe someone was joyriding on their bike and took a tumble, blocking the road. When the real repair crew show up they go, "Oh no, hurt person in the road." They get out to look at the person and get stick-n-shocked for their troubles.

Also it shouldn't be that hard to have Boosts contact switch from making a dentist's license to obligatory repair crew license, might be even cheaper. If we end up needing them.

I assume you have to talk to the spider, when he trys to call the real eletrican:

Scan to find the outgoing call
Sniff to intercept it
Con to impersonate the eletrican

Or scan to find the call, sniffer to intercept it, and exploit to route it to someone else's commlink.  I've got the tools, Tech school background, and 3's and 1's in the appropriate skill groups, so I could possibly do it, otherwise we've got to have someone with a decent con.

If there's something to respond to I'll try to get something in in the morning before I leave, but otherwise it'll probably be around this time when I can get back online after Six Flags.

Cool, thanks for the help.  My lack of decent rolls and knowledge really leads me to understand the how important it is to have  someone who really knows how to play a hacker on the team.  Should have taken Cracking a little higher, but it didn't make sense to me given her background. Oh well, live and learn.

Hey, we're all beginning 'runners, right? :)

As for the test... I'm not sure you have to take the -1 die for every extra test here. I know it's often applied to matrix data searches because otherwise a hacker would always know everything about everyone. But for things like sniffing and such I think you just keep rolling all the dice, the test's just there to decide how long it takes to find what you're looking for.
In the end, it's all up to the GM. (The -1 per test is an optional rule in any case)

Cool.  Yeah, I was erring on the side of caution here.  If Crash_00 says that I can do the roll without the -1 each time then I will happily reroll it and edit the text.

Okay, I'm essentially gone until 11ish central, so don't point anything game-stopping at me unless it's getting close to there.

Assume otherwise that Orson goes with the flow.  Everything he has is loaded stick n shock, Crusader in the concealed holster that comes with the armor, AR-97 tucked against the door until it's time, then slung under the longcoat.

I have the conn... I mean, con.  :D
I have 4 charisma, 3 con, +2 from first impression.
It should be enough, especially if they are expecting a team of people.
I just checked and I should get a +2 if the guard is non-sapient (and aren't they all  ;D ).

Ya, don't worry about the -2 on extended rolls, the -2 is for trying again on normal tests. Example: Searching for a post on the forums, you'll find it eventually its just a matter of how much time it will take, is an extended test. Conning your way past a guard is a pass/fail test. You can try to fix the situation, the standard "Hey not so fast..." but its a bit harder now.

Waiting for the response from the others, Oni sends another short message:
Hey, why are we so sure that the camera man will call the electricans again and not for example the caretaker or so?

Code: [Select]
It won't matter who he calls if Boosts can intercept the signal.

In fact, if he calls someone we haven't thought of, we can keep
him occupied on the call long enough to get in position, spoof a
work order to my commlink and proceed from there as if he had
called in a tech.  We're pretty well relying on some bleeding clockwork
to keep this plan on the rails anyway.

Play it by ear at this point

Sorry, misunderstandable english from my side, the question was more about, why should the camera man make the outgoing call and not someone else from the zoo
personal.

About the time frame: Shortly before the KE change should be better: cops who want to go home or to the next donut stop aren't motivatet so much. During the change we have twice the number of cops coming and going.
Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright
Post by: Onion Man on <07-15-11/0016:24>
It'd be the spider's job to keep tabs on the cameras.  When one goes down he'll be the one who has to either call a tech or report it to the higher ups.  In the middle of the night, I'd bet on call a tech before call the boss, especially with them still being under construction, but it could go either way.

@ Everyone "Rafa/Nameless you're clear for the time being.  I've spotted the three guards. We have one dealing with the construction crew, the other two are on the other side of the zoo, patrolling the parking lot and reptile area.  Their dart shooting drone is off at the moment, so don't worry about needles in your asses.  I also have the three light, generic RFID tags identifying us as electricians.  Critter, Doc, Pig, Oni, which of us is rolling disguised as the crew and which of us are rolling in under the cover of darkness? I'm in the trees on the west side of the road to the zoo.  I'll stay here until I've grabbed the call that goes out, then I'll come meet you guys. Where are you? If I can't grab the call,  I'll stay here to help with the ambush. Sound good?

@ Jake Ellis "Met your guy, got the tags.  Gracias, hombre, but next time could you find a delivery boy and little less drugged out?

Nervous about the next part of the plan (and her abilities to pull it off) Boosts kisses the Saint Frances of Rome and Saint Nicholas of Myra medals that hang around her neck.

This is why I asked where everyone was last night.  It's gotten a bit confusing as to who is where.

Pig, and anyone riding with him, is cruising the major, safer roads 10-15 blocks away to be in 'Fast response time' if the call portion of the plan works.  I'll drive right up the south road when it's time to rock.

"Stick-and-Stun" bullets are still shoot by a pistol and a small explosion in the pistol barrel, so I assume there will be a bigger sound than just B-R-R-R-A-P unless you have a silencer. But maybe I'm wrong about that...

I went over the posts to figure out who is with who. Here is what I think. Corrections?

Critter & Doc are in Critter's car parked 10-15 minutes away.
Pig is driving around in his truck same distance.
Oni is in a divot outside of the gates making moltov cocktails.
Boosts is not far from Oni in the woods doing recon.
Nameless and Rafa are on  roof of either Tinks cage or near it.

With just 2 dice to hit a threshold of 2, I don't think Oni is intelligent enough to fill to bottles with gasolin, put some cloth into the top and soak those with alcohol.

"Wait another 12?", Rafa whispered to his companion on the roof, "Good thing you brought booze, then... On second thought, let's see if we can find the kitty."

He walked silently to the north side of the roof and crawled over the edge, sticking to the wall like a gecko. He searched for the tiger's cage, listening for the nocturnal creature's sounds and looking for small barred windows of animal isolation cages.

Awesomeness.  If you guys are off the roof and finding the tiger before we even get there with the sec guard, we'll be in an even better position to get through this without any gun related complications.

I don't think there is a clear answer on this one - the only thing that has been written about the cars prior to the arrival is this.

Quote
"Okay, will do," Critter said, driving the pick-up truck over to where Pig was waiting.  She took her sports rifle, her Predator IV and her sword and put it in the back beneath some other stuff except for the Predator, that could go in a normal holster as it wasn't that unusual this time of night to drive around armed.  Her goggles and earbuds of course, as well as her respirator.  She also put a medkit in the back, just in case, and she also had a small case with her lael shots in a pocket of her armoured vest.

@Crash_00 - Is the Spider's node, specifically his comm, one that I can see or is it hidden?

Boosts found the Drone's node, but she hasn't quite managed to start a capture on the sensor signal from it (Electronic Warfare + Sniffer (3) is the normal baseline

I say we let Crash make his rolls and we run him by committee (anybody can sort of say Doc comes along or other little stuff) for minor things to keep the story moving.  If anything major starts happening we should probably talk it out in here or let Crash make the calls until he heals.

Title: Re: [OOC/RECRUITMENT] Stars So Bright

by normal rules you'd need to hack an account on the drone (preferably admin) to rig it or spoof with the spiders access ID to subscribe to you or to just go shoot the tiger
You can delete logging on but not logging off (but they'll know there was a breakin anyway)
If a hack fails alarms go, if a spoof fails nothing happens

[OOC: So that's 2 hits after roll one, 5 after roll two, 9 after roll three, 12 after roll four, 13 after roll five.  No glitches.  After what point do I break the Threshold?]

You need to specify User (Firewall), Security (Firewall+3) or Admin (Firewall+6)

You're probably in after roll three but the drone gets firewall+analyze (Boosts Stealth) for every roll you took to get in (it doesn't accumulate). If any of them exceeds your stealth rating, alert goes off. If it goes off you can still get in but there penalties and ARCs to worry about

I should probably be clear, with my aim action I intend to be as ducked down behind the door or dash panel of the truck as is possible in doing so.  Not exactly hiding, but not leaning out a window or anything either.

I don't have any restraints on me, but stand down or not, Gripes is getting stunned.  Hopefully he'll stand down and we can handle holding a stun baton against his neck until he passes out outside the realm of combat.  Failing that, there's gonna be some shooting.  Shoot, by now they've probably already called in to KE.

Nameless is purely melee. Rafa's on the roof with a rifle.

You can see the roofs of the vehicles, but there are trees in the way of actually getting a view to the guard or anyone on the team for that matter.

Oni and a security guard are near the west bank of the river near the northern bridge.

Boosts is hidden down and working through the drone currently trying to get the guards to stand down.

Pig, Critter, and Doc Uzi are in a truck on the service road that has been stopped by a security guard. The security guard is currently about ten feet in front of their truck, aiming from the cover of his cart.

Nameless is moving through the woods toward the service road to take out that guard.

Rafa is still at the warehouse near the tiger.

I've tried something.  Given that companies don't like it if they have to pay bigger bills (well, don't we all), it is a plausible way to get through.

How long he can wait depends entirely on how long Boosts and Doc can delay this Mickey Mouse sec tec. ;)  That'll be priceless if he's still busy checking a SIN or two and Nameless can bound out of the woods and set on him ghoul style.

Also depends on if Gripes is dumb enough to poke his head in the window.

I'm going to try to fast talk our guard (Gripes) so that we can all pass without ID check, or with only my ID.  That way at least we are through, while the rest can play with the other guard or guards

Also, how much tactical info can we get on our image links?  It seems to vary from GM to GM so it's sort of going to matter to Pig whether he knows exactly how close Nameless is to Gripes at any given moment to determine just how itchy his trigger finger gets.

^ I hope so, wasn't too sure about that... a lot depends on the GM.
Prolonged exposure to some kinds of stuff can do pretty much damage, coke usually makes people happy too, but OD's don't.
But I figured if it "sometimes can be lethal to people with asthma", for it to kill a tiger would be a freak accident.

Rafa doesn't even think that much ;)

Yeah, generally speaking the "boom" portion of a gas grenade is just enough to fracture the bladder that holds the gas in.  Think single firecracker, contained in an armored shell, with just enough oomph to break a bladder and push open some vents.  It'd come up as a mild pop followed by a hiss if the gas is under pressure in the bladder.

I've seen tear gas and smoke grenades both go off. The tear gas were louder than the smoke grenades, but I'd say your average M-80 is about twice as loud as the tear gas grenades were. I've heard people rip ass louder than both.

Yeah, that kind of discourages Rafa's "If the gas don't take it down, I'll just punch it" plan  ;p
That the gas would seriously annoy the beast, he kind of knew in advance.

Doors into the building: how close by, how strong, how are they locked? (Can he bust it open with a chisel or destroy the lock with a miniwelder?)

They are garage style warehouse doors. They're fairly flimsy looking and you think you can cut a section out around the lock (it's an external padlock keeping it shut). They're only about twenty feet away from Tink's cage.

Initiative Pass 2:
Nameless = 15
Oni = 13

Pig = 10
Gripes = 9
Rafa = 8

Consider Pig to be taking aim one more time to max out his potential bonus, then delaying action pending the success or failure of Critter's bluff.

If Gripes makes any sort of aggressive move, or if it looks like he's not buying it, Pig'll unload a long, narrow burst on him.  Otherwise, he'll just keep sweating in the truck with his eye on Gripes.

Nope, not silent.

Here's hoping that Crtiter's bluff takes at least 3 for Gripes to think about.  If it comes down to me or him shooting, I'd rather be on the giving than the receiving end.  If Critter's bluff didn't work our cover is fragged anyway.

Today's session IRL took 9 hours and most of the players were at a funeral all morning.  Sort of bushed.  Lost my character (he was going to be retired after this session anyway, so meh), spent a good 6 hours in a chase scene (a flawed scene in Artifacts) and just not feeling it tonight.

"Do it in your own time then Rafa. Don't drag us into your own thefts."

Honestly, I was just waiting on Crash to say whether I or not Nameless noticed and this instigates.

There's no way Pig is leaving an armed man with a commlink stunned on the road between him and escape without sanitizing any optical recording units.  He let 3 of us in and almost certainly has images of me, Doc, and Critter, and my truck, possibly Critter's Fake SIN depending on how far into the bluff we got.  If he does have any recording units those need to be sanitized, as do any records he has of the 3 of us on his commlink, or some of us are already caught and just waiting for facial recognition software to find and report us.  If he doesn't, he still needs to be separated from his weapon and commlink or have them disabled or we're just asking to have an injured but conscious sec tec covering our exit covering our exit and calling KE.  The guard that got droned is less of a liability, but is still armed and might wake up/become revived as well.

If sanitizing scenes and managing risks is going to be a problem, we may as well resolve it early on, preferably with dialogue rather than in-party combat.

I knew your motivation, I don't have a problem with it, my character does. In other words He believes that's for boosts to handle wirelessly. Nothing needs to be touched. As for armed and dangerous, or calling KE, he'll be out cold for an hour minimum. We cn be physically hauling ass while boosts hacks their links. Ask and I or the resident mage can assense him for cybereyes too, poking isn't needed.

Ok i'll let Onion Man reply to my original post
It looks like we'd be in two different spots in the timeline again if we do that.  Not by as much time as before, but still...

If it's cool with everyone else, I'd rather keep the out of timeline argument in here and just let the in character timeline move on with the knowledge that Nameless and Pig argue before the whole crew moved on to doping and loading the tiger.  I'm pretty adamant in that I don't want to come to rolls with Nameless (especially at this moment, where things would get loud and it could end poorly for everyone instead of just one of us).

Anyway, I'm just waking up but I know I see Chrona in the online list pretty often.  If he's game for having the argument in here instead of there I'll post up after I get back from scouting a new FLGS as a likely spot to run some Missions.

Crux of Pig's argument: A fried optical recording unit is more sanitary than a deleted file, it's faster and easier to disconnect the fractal antenna than it is to disable a commlink via the matrix (same for weapons, which I'm actually good at instead of just, meh, with advancement potential), and there's no way he's about to count on some relative stranger (who's only filling in as a hacker anyway) to cover his trail when he can do it himself and know it's done and done.

He can live without recycling the scene through the black market (though metagame wise I think it's a poor decision not to move movable goods when we started with heavy gear restrictions), but leaving things to luck and circumstance is way too out of character for him.  Bodies only stay down until they're revived, witnesses left by the roadside are more of a liability than witnesses left tied up in a broom closet, and with a little knowledge of gang signage and a little skill in Artisan, KE will go looking whatever direction we want them to without any significant forensic labwork if we stay in control of the scene.

I'll probably throw my hands up and head for the tiger, "Fine, if you can cover the Forensics side go ahead. But. If that's corp 'ware damaging it might push us out of "manageable damage control". I've seen it happen before, corps know there'll be crime and compensate for it and ignore you but go too far and you'll need to be made an example. Like frying a guys optics."

Thrill seeker, cheetah cage (5d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3136604/)

If this means combat (I'm guessing it does), Rafa will wait for the cat to jump at him.
Full Defense Block: Full Defense: Unarmed 5, Gymn Dodge 6, Reaction 5 (16d6.hits(5)=6) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3136644/)
If successful: Throw: Str + Unarmed opposed test: Throw: Unarmed 5, Str 8 (13d6.hits(5)=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3136646/) to throw it against the cage's bars.

That last roll kind of sucked, but for all rolls remember the cheetah's got a negative dice pool modifier equal to the S damage it took from the gas.

I just checked on the tiger.  Between the assensing and the medkit roll, I should be able to tell it's status I think.

I'll wait for the cheetah to do something first, although at the moment I'm tempted to put the second dose of slab into Rafa.

Can I do an animal handling check to try something on the Cheetah?

And in comes the stunbolt...
Force 9, seriously... that's kind of overkill I think. No need to panic that hard, the thing's still in its cage ya know.

@Ethan: To roll multiple dice (will use 7 as example), instead of typing 7 in the "Number of Rolls" field and 1d6.hits(5) in the "Dice" field -- which will get you 7 rolls, 1d6 (1d6.hits(5)=1, 1d6.hits(5)=0, 1d6.hits(5)=0, 1d6.hits(5)=0, 1d6.hits(5)=1, 1d6.hits(5)=0, 1d6.hits(5)=0) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3139596/), have to count the separate hits ---

It's better to type "1" in "Number of Rolls" and "7d6.hits(5)" in the Dice field. It'll show: 1 roll, 7 dice (7d6.hits(5)=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3139601/). --- Invisible Castle immediately tells you you got 3 hits ---

The "Number of Rolls" field is best used for extended tests or other things done repeatedly with the same number of dice. (Like, I shoot him twice with my pistol, semi-auto and the recoil is compensated: Bang, Bang (7d6.hits(5)=1, 7d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3139602/) 1 hit and 2 hits.)

According to google the average Cheetah weighs about 100lb so about 50 kilograms.
Just buying hits Rafa can carry 120kg without penalty. I figured that's enough to carry two over his shoulders and drag the other... if you want a roll or have other objections, just let me know and I'll edit.

@all: Apologies, he just doesn't know any better >:p

Critter put herself in Rafa's path, keeping her rifle so she could have it ready in an instant.
"And what exactly do you think you're doing," she asked, "If you want those cats, at least have the decency to carry them all, and not drag them by their tail.  You should have respect for the things you hunt.  Doc, get the tiger.  If he wants the cats, he can take them out on foot.  Let's get moving."

....
My god, you did not just do that to the pissed off ganger.

Typing a reply... will try to not automatically have this turn into bloodshed; though a lot will depend on Critter's ability to understand gangers as well as animals. (Hint: they really aren't much different: they don't usually respond friendly to challenges.)

I'll use my animal handling then, and I might be able to use my adept power for non-sapient critters. ;D  ;)

As long as you take the Cheetahs not by dragging them by their tails, all is fine for Critter.

@Crash: my character probably knows how much an animal like that would go for on the market (depends also on the assensing roll, if they are awakened or not).  Can you give me an idea?  It might help (if the cats are next to worthless, I might convince Rafa to leave them as it's more trouble then it's worth).

They aren't awakened. A cheetah would normally bring in a couple thousand, but right after a few are stolen from a zoo, they'd probably only bring in a few hundred a piece.

Doc may have understood and been diplomatic with Rafa, but the nosebleed and the jungle cat scare pissed him off. He's not going to try to reason with Rafa, will just ask for him to put it back or have it put back for him.

(In case it wasn't clear, Doc was in Bogota but he of course doesn't recall that. The snarling kitties brought some of that back and he's a bit on edge and doesn't know why. So he is a mite distracted, perhaps a penalty to perception rolls?)

I'm in the same boat.  Had time to be online a bit but not really time to react when it would have been most appropriate.

After reading IC all I can say is /facepalm.  Cover gets blown, so we go hot, now we're going back to covert with one guard not KOed, 4 cats going missing, a door cut open, and we really think that drugging the two guards on the surface is going to make us less of a target for retribution?  Ugh.  I'll think up something in the afternoon, Wisconsin politics have fried my brain for the morning (been up all night arguing about them and the repercussions of them).

Oh the places we'll go and the messes we'll make.  :P  At least we'll probably get paid... should have gotten something up front, or at least in escrow.

No, no I can't.

The closest we've come really is hijacking the game from under the GM and going straight to "We kick the door in and shoot everything that breathes or hums".

Unless you count Missions, some of the Missions I went through at Origins went off without a hitch, but on others... by all rights we should have been TPKed.

Even if it means that Boosts calls up the entry to the spider's lair from inside the system and one of us goes down there to stun baton/ball/frill him and barricade him in that bathroom manually.  That spider is the single biggest thing that could jeopardize the mission in the short run...

If we're pretty much wrapped up for this run, Pig's got to pay the rent for the next month (2,000 nuyen), and make a payment to the Vory (2750 nuyen minimum, going to make it 2900 and leave him penniless to pay down the principle some and leave himself 27350 in debt, I had missed the 150% part of in debt on the character report last time), then spend the rest of whatever down time we've got looking for a real job since this Shadowrunning gig clearly came short of paying the bills for the month...  That is of course unless Eddy or Jerry Bale has a lead on some fast money that could be made under the table and/or in the shadows.

Pig will have made a payment to Jerry and Larry.  Seeing as he's on a razor thin margin until this next job comes about he'll end up doing his shopping after our meet with Larry.  Fast stuff, silencer is a must, and en evidence tampering kit that he should be able to get through Jerry and Larry, possibly pick up some stuff from a local Hardware Hut or something, depends on the nature of the thief that's got the Bales' package.

I'll figure out what I did training wise in 2 weeks tonight, maybe clean up my character report, or at least get it up to date.  I've got some framing that needs to get done.

Also I'm going to see my talismonger to check about the availability of groups to initiate.

I'll be learning Cybertechnology (already own the gear for it) Learning Cybertechnology. Intuition (2) Extended 1 week. (4d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3163646/).

Seeing as it's only been 2 weeks, Pig won't have paid next month's rent yet and will handle his stuff with Larry and Jerry between the meet and when we go active into the run.  He'll be looking to buy a silencer for the AK, an Operations Cleanup Kit, and put most of what's left into payment on his debts unless we get some sort of huge up-front.

I'll actually clean up my character report after I know what's up with Edge and know what's what with those upcoming gear changes.  Should leave me with 4 karma.

I'll be gone from Sep 8th to Sep 14th, so we'll have some downtime during that bit it would seem. I'll cover your character if anything comes up Xzy.

Positive Qualities
Perceptive 10: +2 Modifier to all perception tests.
Natural Athlete 10: +1 to rating of Running and Gymnastics skills.
Inspired 5: An Inspired character is touched by a muse and is rightfully lauded as an artistic genius by his peers. This quality does not translate to widespread fame, but it does grant the character a Street Cred of 2 (see. p. 275, SR4) among fellow artists familiar with his talent and reputation. Inspired also modifies any Artisan skill rating the character possesses by +2.

Tech School Education 5: The Technical School Education quality modifies the skill rating of any Professional Knowledge skills the character acquires by +1 (to a maximum of Rating 6).

Negative Qualities
Records on File (LoneStar) 10: This quality provides agents of the corporation with a +6 dice pool modifier to any tests to identify the character through SIN, biometrics, facial or biometric recognition, or medical data. It also provides a +2 dice pool bonus to Legwork attempts to track her down.

SINner 5: UCAS
Addiction, Mild (Tattoos and booze) 5: The addiction is omnipresent but not blatant or intrusive; it may not even be recognized or acknowledged. At this stage it is easier to seek help, but very few recognize their addiction as something needing help at this stage. Addicts experience cravings at least once a week (if not every few days), but can ignore them if necessary without too much difficulty. The addict suffers a –2 dice pool modifier to Willpower and/or Body Tests to resist the craving.

Anyone going to negotiate?

I wasn't planning on negotiating, but Pig thinks it would be bad form to have the mobster who holds all of his debt offer him a job, and to come back at him with a counteroffer or other means of asking for more.

I'm all in favor of someone else doing it, but not me.

I'm still here, at least for this week (on holiday after that).  I'll try to get something in today.

Back from holiday and back into action!

Rafa's found some dirty cops to beat up, rejoice!

This is probably going to be my last reply, as I'm on holiday from Saturday until next week Sunday.  I might get in some view time in between, but I'm not sure, so don't count on it.  GM can use my character in the mean time.  At the moment it's recon, just keeping ears and eyes open (with the occasional look on the astral).  Just don't kill her off.

I'll be heading out early tomorrow and won't be home until Monday, so this weekend will be spotty at best for me anyway. Not much will probably happen until Tuesday at the earliest.

Well vacation is over and I'm back to my normal schedule. When we left off, Nameless and Pig were off to see a contact while Critter and Rafa we're scoping out the apartment complex.

I'm here, but to be honest a bit apprehensive of letting Rafa go all alone and ruining the run for everyone...
Then again, he IS a thrill seeker... let's see:
Thrill Seeker: 1 - 6 - 6 - 3 - 4 (Avg: 4.0) (Rolled with http://www.roll-dice-online.com/, IC is back up but refuses to roll...)
Okay, taking it easy. Will try posting an IC later today. (Farothel's on vacation...)

I'm back from my holiday.  I'll be posting something later today, but first I have to go through 800+ pics

TBH, not sure how it's handled... is it supposed to be an unarmed attack vs the door instead of a STR check?
If so: Unarmed attack vs door? (15d6.hits(5)=7) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3198165/) At double str w/ hardliner gloves or chisel, how the hell is this done?: 16/2(+1?)DV + 7 net hits: 15-16DV from attacking the door... So yeah, if just breaking it with the chisel doesn't work, let 's do that instead ;)

... Trying to go inside? Hell no. After the door is busted open he's retreating back into the shadows to watch who responds and how.
With that many gangs in the neighborhood, it'll just be blamed on some ganger trying to break into a place but being scared off.

But Critter doesn't know that, now does she?  :)

Only the two of us are at this location...
So no cops or something showing up? Great.
