Oi. It's ugly as sin. But I got sick of people asking me about it, especially since I had passed it off to others to develop.
This is very much a "Rough Cut". It was laid out in Word 2003 and converted to PDF via a crappy program called PrimoPDF. And done with about as much artistic and layout skill as you can expect out of me. ;)
There's the possibility we'll have a "cleaner" version online in the next couple days, and I hold out hope that Chrome will actually finish the real version some day soon. Until then, I hope this holds you over, and I hope you enjoy.

That was entertaining
-
Entertaining in a "THis was fun" kind of way, or entertaining in a "Ha-ha, look at that car crash adn all those dead bodies!" kind of way? :)
-
;D ;D ;D It was entertaining as in good read and interesting content
Let me expand on that to give proper feed back....
Art ~ I can't draw worth a Frag so I'll excuse myself from makeing any comments on it.
Opening ~ I liked this it says enough about what the idea is with out takeing too much space.
Small Awakening ~ Didn't read it if I do I'll give my 2 nuyens worth.
Advice from a Fixer ~ A good read well plotted out. Although at the end the fixer says you can trust me ...... yeah ok.
The Black Market ~ like the fab armor, under Horizon-Doble MS3TD i had a laugh at the what's the UB comment, And dam if I ain't staying away from the tree!
Music MaveN: The Top Ten Songs You Should Be Listening To RIGHT NOW!!!! ~ This was ok but Eh not real music so just more or less a shadow talk area. (not a bad thing mind you)
Seattle Newsnet™ Screamsheet! ~ LOVED this took me back to the Shadowbeat sourcebook.
RUNNING WILD ADDENDUM: SHAPESHIFTERS ~ Now if only you'd allow a Troll Metavariant Minotaur Tiger Shapeshifter in missions.........(god that guy be nasty after earning like 200 karma lol)
Prime Runners ~ nice write up on Bull and Rush.
Tough Lessons ~ Didn't read it if I do I'll give my 2 nuyens worth.
Giving Form to ChaosT (or Not) ~ I'd say I like to try to give the setting and then let the players run the game I have some things that more or less need doing to move ahead but I do try to let them go there on their own. (Although for now they are running through all the old published adventures)
Dear Mr. Johnson ~ This is a good Q & A stuff.
A Fixer’s Little Black Book ~ I liked the lay out and it gives good info to use them.
Expanded Training Rules ~ Didn't read it if I do I'll give my 2 nuyens worth. (I just let my players get or upgrade skills between sessions)
Dueling Reviews: Shadowrun 4 Anniversary Edition ~ Didn't read it if I do I'll give my 2 nuyens worth.
Interview with a Developer ~ So he plays Wii heh ok now to work him to work the higher powers to get them to find someone to make a Wii Shadowrun game!
Bulldrek ~ A good ending to a great first issue.

Though I am still working though it, so far I am impressed. Again thanks for all the hard work bull and staff. To offer something of this kind of value for free is an amazing gift, thank you.
-
Stop worrying, don't you know we're just starved for decent SR goodies on a regular basis. Even as a rough draft it helps fill the void pretty well.
-
Thanks guys. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. ANd nice review Cas. :)
THis "Rough Cut" is so far from where I wanted the final product to be, it's not even funny. But, it's readable, it showcases the art and the writing, so it's workable.
I only ever had part of Issue 2, Chrome was working on the rest of that one, so no idea where it stands. :/

Looks great, Bull. Thanks for all the hard work. Now where did all my issues of Ka·Ge get to?

Don't know but if you find them let me see them I promise I'll return them :P
-
Bull, I think this looks like a great product so far.
I had to laugh (in a good way), because it reminded me exactly of Ka*Ge as well...which I still have all my issues of as well. I loved Ka*Ge and I'm glad you've put this together much in that same format!
-
I always looked forward to my Kage, when it stopped printing I shed a virtual tear.
FaB armor hmm, now this is were I saw manatech going, giving mundanes an edge.
EDIT: Now just need astral sight and weapons for mundanes. (evil laugh)
-
Since we're posting such things... the early proof we circulaed of what the issue was "supposed" to look like when done

Loved it,
I'll be looking with interest at a cleaned up version but for a rought draft that was very nice.
One thing I didnt like so much was the mage armour, It effectively makes a very localised background count which doesnt quite mesh with armour in my mind. Personally I would have given it a armour value just like balistic and impact and just had it add on dice to resist. Armour that means someone casting a force three automatically fails regardless of net hits (net hits do not up the force just the DV) seems wrong especially as the mage will still take drain.

One thing that caught me as funny is that the New Orleans Urban Brawl team is called the Tombstones.
New Orleans has actual tombs, not tombstones, since you can't dig into the ground without hitting water.
Maybe they should be the New Orleans Blackouts? ;D
-
I think the Tombstones was actually their official name in Shadowbeat. The only team we added was the Cleveland Chaos, since that's the Urban Brawl team we used occasionally in my old home campaign, which was set in Cleveland for a time.
If we want new names... The hurric... Ok, I'm not gonna go there. ad taste.
;)

hey bull, would you happen to be taking new "reporters" for this little mag, or is it something that works under the official submission rules
-
Bull has ully immersed himself as Missions coordinator, and I went hnds of on the project 6 months ago. Most of the stuff was turned over to Chrome, who mae a few attempts to finish DSDH off, again, it just kinda went off into the mist. Until I hear otherwise, I consider the DSDH project fully dead in the water.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOO :( :( :( :(
seriously though, anychance of getting someone new to work on coordination?
-
There are always people making new weapons/vehicles/creatures/locations/objects and there are always people writing short stories and culture pieces. Brodda as seen here (http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=32986&view=findpost&p=992738) has put out a lot of fan material. Here's a handy guide (http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=32976&view=findpost&p=992017) Smokeskin made for players trying to act pro with shadowing techniques. CanRay (http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=21589&view=findpost&p=667687) is always doing write-ups.
I understand you don't want to just work on something and see it as a forum post to be forgotten. That's totally cool.
I bet they feel the same way. All you need is a person with a bit of history with adobe publisher, and you can combine your efforts into a fan mag just like DDH. Just because Bull is the Missions Coordinator these days doesn't make DDH official more than any other collection of house rules. Hell, there are players who would froth with rage over the idea of adding the mag rules to their game.
What I'm saying I guess is... cast your nets. With a bit of vetting and an editor, you could be the next NERPS.
-
alright then, caine if you have copies still of the stuff, layouts and all i mean, would you be willing to send me a copy. Would the company have a Bill Cosby level coniption if fans got together and actually built this?
-
I figure if even Catalyst employees are releasing a free fan mag, it should be okay to do.
Historically, there have been:
Plastic Warriors
The Neo-anarchits Guide to Everything Else
NERPS
and now DDH
I know there have been more, and I know that there are tons of fan sites with home-brewed content, images and stories.
Shadowrun inspires people.
-
YOu also forget The Shadowrun Supplemental.
And no, if someone wanted to pick it up and run with it, go for it. :) Good luck!
-
gracias el toro grande
i know i would need LOTS of help mainly in the way of reports, i'm a concept and organizer guy, i can probably do the layouts, but want some serious help also
-
Time is a serious hindrance, no? First, to the topic of the thread: My two cents.
Layout: You warned us; and I completely understand. It is for the most part, difficult to read (I.E. Readability) and there isn't any designs or anything to catch your eye. It's just type on a page. I'm a bit overly-critical since I have a graphic design degree; so please forgive me!
Art: This is always difficult for one to address. Graphics is just the emphasis I have in my degree; my specific "title of degree" is a Bachelor's in Art with Emphasis in Graphic Design (Fat lot of good it does me since I don't . I'm not trying to pat myself on the back here; rather I'm just trying to provide a basis on where my opinion comes from other than just a spectator. Art is good in one persons eyes, and bad in another. Style and presentation are important more-so than the actual rendering. In some places, abstract art is a perfect complement to the event. I'm rambling, but basically there is a specific feel one is trying to match. From what I'm reading, this was all basically a free offering. With that thought, one really can't complain. I wouldn't say any of the art was horrible IMO, and given the circumstances, there was a good amount.
Content: I haven't read it all through, but what I did read was exceptional. The over-all content, including the art, has a considerable amount of time put into it. Since this is free and such well done from first glance, I don't think anyone can complain.
Could it be better? Sure. But I think we can all tell that there was a LOT of work done here all for the love of the game. And that's without all the nasty backlash of "glitches" that came in putting the mag together. I'm looking forward to getting more involved.
@Wolfboy: I've been thinking about doing some SR based art. And I also like to write from time to time. I don't have any training or work done for writing, nor have I really had any feedback for it. I think it is ok, but without feedback, it is hard to evolve. We are all busy, I'm sure, but the thought of collaborating on a magazine would be a fun thing I would consider doing. It'd be difficult for me to commit to a deadline since I have an infant and a full-time day job, but something I would be willing to throw some work into.
Oh, and I have done a bit of work in the past for a little freelance company named dreamscarred press. I actually did the cover art for the book Untapped Potential. You can see it at their site or look at it at Amazon. I did quite a bit of interior art for them as well. A lot of the stuff was mostly sketches and it isn't my best work...but that's what happens when you don't have a lot of time and are on a deadline.
-
I've still got material sitting in notebooks, waiting for me to give it the time and energy to write up. I wanted to do more - and Bull and co. seemed interested in what I was offering up - so I was disappointed when the mag fell through.
I lost the second thing I submitted to Bull for Data Haven, but I did manage to find my third piece, which I'm pretty proud of (http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=28372&view=findpost&p=989527). You can see I was already starting to lay out groundwork for new stuff.
So I dunno. If it got off the ground in a halfway decent fashion, I'd post more stuff to it.
-
Raven, remind me later this week when I'm in front of my system to look for your submissions. I think I managed to get everything copied over to the FTP server we were setting up for everyone to use. I should be able to dreg up copies of all your work you submitted
-
alright guys, i've been thinking on this for a while and i would like to get your thoughts on the main premise idea i have for it. The thing i want to do with it is a mixture of Dragon magazine (rule options, prime runner/fixer profiles, plex profiles,) and Shonen Jump Magazine, (player submitted short stories, comics and manga) i would like to get some decent running serials and would love to have some rewrites of some of the old stuff as well. I want to bring everything through the ages so to speak, and i want serials.
comments?

The problem with the Dragon style mag, is that you have lot of material that would be "unbalanced".
A Dragon/Dungeon style mag would have more appeal. Short adventures, a page or 2 of NPCs, a Villain Page, some new tech (of the balanced verity ) and then more of the local scenes IRL. Like how players can get in contact with a local fire base, and find a shadowrun game to play in.
I'll help out.

Michael Mann had a great line in the director's commentary for Heat that I think applies to the fixer article:
"All fences are informants."
He then goes on to elaborate that they are all CIs for law enforcement.
-
So...the link to the material this topic is about is broken. Anyone know where I can get it from?
