Title: Urban Brawl -- 6th scenario [finished]
Post by: inca1980 on <10-14-11/1854:29>
Cast:

Brick -- Troll Street Sam with penchant for distruction yet highly professional.
Zach -- Siberian Ork Physical Adept who follows the totem of the Cat.
Firewall -- Elf Technomancer with a knack for explosives.
Thunderhead -- German dwarven Mystic adept beast handler!

*******************************************************************

@Brick:

Dustin flips out when you tell him what happened on the run but he really doesn't have any other option but to accept what happened.  He takes his money back, thanks you and bids you good day, his primary concern now being to find another way to get out of the jam he's in.

[OOC: Drop his loyalty rating by 1 if you have him as a contact.]

@Zach:

You catch wind of a smuggling job that would take you into Salish-Shidhe country.  These are usually quite straight forward point A to point B type jobs and the pay is usually quite decent.  Your experience as a smuggler should also make you and your team a prime candidate for the job.  To inquire about the job you're given an address in Renton that comes up in a Matrix search as a car mechanic's garage.

@Tolan:

Jobs have been pretty dry lately and you'd like to lay off the Seattle streets for a little while since Mitsuhama's boys are a little hot on your trail right now.  You see a shadow-listing for a good old fashion smuggling job into Salish-Shidhe country and a trip out of the plex in order to lay low seems worth the occasional dead-zones you might encounter.  You'll miss the hum of the plex but its best to not take any risks and go make yourself scarce.  You're given an address in Renton about where to inquire.

@B: Hoi chummer. Cat grow tired a bit from rat-soup menu. What about a BBQ? CU6PM.

With this, Zach will just change the course and push the throttle to get there on time.

Brick receives the message. After 2 weeks of hunkering down, The itch to get out is starting to bother him."Gracie's downtown at 1800.", He leaves a note for his daughter telling her that he's going out, and too finish her homework. He'll be back later, with a surprise.

Brick suit's up with his armor under his long coat clipping his Karmabit to his waist band, then will pack the panther into the Rover along with his ingram X. do a GPS search for parking near gracie's before heading out to meet Zach.

[OOC: Roll an Edge + Intuition (3) test.]

As the Space Needle approaches you notice that you've now entered the Downtown SINner zone because an ARO alerts you and asks you to broadcast your SIN and GPS coordinates.

@Zach:

You ignore the AR alert to broadcast your SIN since you know very well that the only SIN you have is tagged as a wanted criminal and you just keep driving.  Within only minutes a KE patrol drone is hovering next to your bike and then makes its way right in front of you and hovers down the street keeping only about 2 meters with your face.  It blares out on loudspeaker mode:

<<Citizen, please submit to retinal scan.  Merely peer at the red AR target or look at me directly.>>

You find it comical how the drone refers to itself as me.  Nice touch KE.

Shit. First I need to know if there is some area with really bad signal - some energy plant, ironworks, even large warehouse complex built wit use of metal, scrapyard, sewers or underground entrance.
Where am I:

Where I need to get:

How much time I have and how should I get a bit more:

@Zach:

With the help of an AR layout from your map-soft laid out on the wind-shield of your bike you can see that there's a power plant about a mile south of you getting close to Seatac airport....you're not sure what the Wifi signal is like down there but it's your best bet.  From your knowledge of security procedures you estimate that you might have about 1 minute to evade the drone before it gathers other drones and calls in patrol cars or even air patrol.  The drone is most definitely armed even though you can't see any visible weapons right now.  You don't have a license for your bike either so there are no plates which is a good thing at this moment but a bad thing if you get caught.

As soon as you break away to evade the drone it takes off after you.  It's radar sensors seem to have caught your signal and the chameleon coating isn't gonna do much good.

@Zach:

Drone -----<<medium>>-----Zach
[OOC:  You go first.  You won the vehicle test so you can change the Engagement range.  I'll assume you're going from Short to Medium.  For your first complex action you attempt to jam on the fly.  Drone: Signal = (4d6.hits(5)=2).  You don't score any net hits so it doesn't work for this complex action.   Remember you have to spend at least one Complex Action per combat turn controlling your vehicle and you can choose to do a special Maneuver from the list on pg. 170 SR4A.  Also remember that if you're successful with jamming on the fly your comm can't be used for anything else during that period and your Signal for jamming drops of by 1 for every 5 meters so you can only jam til about 15 meters.  The drone's at about 20 m right now.]

You try and generate static with your comm and spit it into the channels that the drone might be using but you can't seem to be hitting the right frequencies.  You pop the clutch and your bike shoots forward putting a little bit more distance between you and the drone which is flying after you.

It keeps on chasing you but doesn't seem to be taking offensive measures yet.

@Firewall:

The taxi drops you off a block away from the Renton address you have for the job.  God you love the city.  You wince at the thought of being without the constant hum of spam bouncing off your mental filters....the buzz of Wifi massaging the back of your neck.  But 15,000¥ ain't chump change and your lenders don't fuck around.  With Mitsuhama so hot on your trail it's either stay in town and get geeked, or rough it in the country side with deadzone headache and make a little money while your at it.

You look around a little paranoid and then make your way down the block.  The address is an old dirty car and drone shop that's very typical for this part of Renton.  The side door is open and you walk in.  Making sure to duck under hoses and lifts you make your way in and see a dwarf with black hair and dark skin wearing goggles and welding something with a laser.  When he sees you he turns it off and pulls up his goggles.

"What do you want?"

@Firewall:

The dwarf looks you up and down sizing you up.  Then suddenly without warning he start cracking up hysterically.

"I might as well take the package myself and hand it over to the authorities with a cute little bow and a card attached to it....hahahahaha"

His laugh slowly dies into a chuckle and he wipes tears from his eyes with his forearm.

"Good one Mr. Elf, good one.....  well, enlighten me.  What is it exactly that you do?"

He chuckles some more and then tries to compose himself.

It's been a shitty week. I've hit a dead end and lost the trail of my quarry, and now I have to spend some time regrouping. Some additional funds would be helpful if I plan to stay on the good side of the landlord next month.

[OOC: rolling initial money: (Middle Lifestyle starting nuyen (4d6=14) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3244776/) +3 for remaining initial funds) * 100 = 1700 nuyen]

Thunderhead walked into the talisman shop in Renton where he had befriended the owner, a middle-aged male dwarf named Hatcher. He was known to have skills in locating hard to find magical reagents, and it was rumored that he could help develop new spells and rituals. He was also known to be someone who was in constant need of goods and services for barter and trade, and Thunderhead thought he'd see if there was any quick work to be had.

"Hello, chummer Hatcher. I'm still interested in having you develop that spell we talked about. I'm again short on currency, but this time I finally have time to perform some of those 'services' you mentioned the last time we spoke."

[OOC: edited Hatcher's description from female troll to male dwarf to reflect GM's subsequent post.. unless it's a REALLY ugly bearded female troll]

"Never mind what I do, I charge extra for a game of 20 Questions. You have something you want moved from A to B and here I am. If you think I look like a cop, then perfect; the scumbags will avoid me and the police will ignore me."

Christ, what kind of fumes has this guy been huffing that he thinks I look like a cop?
Title: Re: Urban Brawl -- 6th scenario
Post by: inca1980 on <10-31-11/1722:16>
@Thunderhead:

Hatcher greats you in a friendly but business-like manner and scratches his braided beard and thinks a little about your request before responding.  When he talks his tattooed face creases and gives him the wizened look of someone well beyond his years.

"I would love to help out a client who's short on cred, but researching a spell is a pretty time consuming endeavor.  I'll tell you what...  I'm constructing a spell focus right now that just needs one last reagent and I'm fresh out.  Now this stuff is hard to come by on the market and your best bet is going out and getting it yourself.  I was going to go this weekend out to the woodlands out east, but if you could save me the dangers and the hassles of the trip.....I'll try and get that spell you're looking for up and running.  The stuff I need is called Beixaflor.  It's a flower from an awakened plant.  It grows very sporadically out east in the wilderness if a mana pool forms for long enough.  If you can get it to me in usable condition, we'll call it a fair trade."

@Firewall:

The Amerindian looking dwarf stops chuckling altogether.

"It ain't cuz you look like a cop Mr. Elf....it's cuz if you're planning on moving what I need moved, you're gonna need a few helpers.  From the way you walked in that door, it don't look like you got a posse to back you up yet.....and from the way you're scoping out the 'ware in this garage you're probably someone who covers matrix and tech support.  You're gonna need muscle, mojo and then someone who knows routes.  But don't sweat it Mr. Elf, I ain't tellin' ya t'get lost."

He stands up and puts his tools down, walks over to a desk and opens up a paper note-book. ....this guy really does seem old school.

"I'll tell you what....If I can't find a full team that already works well together, then I'll give you a ring and we'll see if we can't fit you in somewhere.  So just so you know what you're getting into.  I need this package moved across the border into NAN territory.  The first part should be a piece of cake and that is driving close to the border.  The other half is the real hastle....you're gonna have to foot it a few miles over the border in the goddamn woods until you reach the pickup zone.  You up for that?"

@Brick:

Zach's running late....that ain't typical for the ork....

Hmm, I seem to remember reading something about that particular plant...

[OOC: Botany (2) + Logic (2) (4d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3246770/)]

"Yes, I am familiar with that plant. You have a deal." Thunderhead holds the dwarf's gaze for a moment longer to seal the contract.

Thunderhead walked out of the small store and onto the streets of Renton. He could feel Max's presence at his side, even though the huge Fenrir Wolf was invisible due to the spell he'd cast before they left their apartment. His sustaining focus, a wrought iron bead woven into his beard, felt slightly warm to the touch as it powered the illusion. As he walked down the street, people would immediately give them a wide berth, without even knowing that Max was there. It seemed that the wolf's innate Fear power worked even through the invisibility spell.

Overhead, Shoryuken floated on thermal updrafts from the city, looking for food and keeping an eye on Thunderhead and Max. The Merlin Hawk would prove invaluable in his search for the Beixaflor, as it had the ability to cast a huge breadth of Detection spells.

Thunderhead got into an automated cab, with Max bounding in behind him. The cab settled to the ground with a creak as the 150-kg animal jumped into the vehicle. Thunderhead instructed the cab to head east towards the border and settled back in the cab's uncomfortable seat.

@Zach:

You kick the clutch on your bike and twist the gas one last time and you take off down a side alley which loses the drone completely.  You make it back outside the downtown SIN zone and breath a sigh of relief.  You wonder if there are any smuggling routes that could be safer.  Maybe just  a call to Brick would be easier.

@Brick:

Zach's really late....you wonder what is going on.

@Firewall:

The dwarf looks at you.  Then he looks both ways as if making sure no one is around and then lowers his voice and whisper to you.

"Real coffee beans.  None of this soy crap...not even some of that gene-manipulated stuff you can buy at Evo-licious Community Food stores downtown.  Some chieftain in the boonies apparently is quite the connoisseur.  He's paying a hell of a lot for it.  You're gonna need to carry about 500 kilos of this stuff.  So hopefully we can assemble the right team."

@Thermo:

Almost as if reading your mind, Smiley your fixer calls you up.

"Hey Thunder....I spotted an add floating around the VPN's about a smuggling job.  If you're interested here's the address."

Is this guy serious? Whatever, money is money. At least we'll stay awake during the journey. Didn't expect my first job to be...moving coffee, even if it is the real stuff.

Thunderhead hears his commlink doohickey make a soft beep from his satchel. It takes him a few seconds to think of what the beep even came from. He fishes it out and gingerly pushes the flashing button on the screen, listening to the message.

Hmm, a smuggling job might be just what I need to get some fred back into my account. With any luck I can get the flower for Hatcher at the same time. In any case I might make enough nuyen to pay him for the new spell in nuyen instead of favors.

He pushes the "reply" button, half expecting the commlink to shoot sparks in his face, but no such bad luck.

"THANK YOU FOR THE TIP, FRIEND" he half bellows into the device's microphone.

Jeezus these insipid devices make me feel like an old man.

He tells the automatic cab to drive to the new address, sits back, and waits to see where he gets dropped off, peering through the windows to attempt to see if this is a set-up or a trap.

After all, in the shadows, you never know.

@Thunderhead:

It doesn't look like a trap to you, so you climb out and the address is a mechanics shop embedded in a whole block of grimey-grey little store-fronts which form the first floor of a 3-4 story tall apartment complex.  Service pipes and electronic wiring buses cover most of everything around here and the occasional drone whizzes over-head.  Not too much traffic around though.  The door in the garage is half-way open and you hear talking inside.

As soon as you knock you hear a gruff voice ask you to come in.  When you enter you see an Amerindian dwarf with goggles draped around his neck talking to an elf in a hoodie with cargo pants and a backpack.  They both look at you and the dwarf asks:

"I suppose you're here for a job too, am I right?  That giant fraggin dog better be house broken or i'm gonna have to put it down.  And if that bird takes a crap on some of the new bodies i'm workin' on, you're payin for it chummer."

You see the dwarf with beads in his beard and a whole medieval thing going on enter the garage.  You scratch your head for a moment because You don't understand what the Amerindian dwarf means by dog.  You don't see anything.......it does smell kind of funny around the dwarf though.

@Firewall & Thunder:

The dwarf responds to Firewall:  "Foothills of the rockies, heavily wooded and crawling with life which makes aerial surveillance real hard.  It's also the only sure way through the border without getting checked.  Aside from the tribal foot patrols that do reconnaissance, the only thing you gotta watch out for is the wild-life, but with enough fire and mojo power that's not too much of a problem.  As long as someone knows the outdoors, it should be a cakewalk all the way to the drop-off."

@Zach & Brick:

The door of the garage is almost too small for Brick to get through but he ducks and slides in and nearly hits his head on a car which is up on a hydraulic lift.  Sichr comes in after him.  The dwarf looks at you both and sizes you up.

@Everyone:

The dwarf chuckes:

"Well would y'look at that!"

He looks over at Firestorm.

"Let's see.......you my friend say you're pretty slick with the wifi.  The dwarf definitely slings mojo.  That big ol' troll over there definitely looks like your muscle and from the look of his eye-implants he's good with the trigger.  Then his buddy the ork over there looks like quite the survivor.  I've seen 'em all.  So it looks like you got your team Mr. Elf!  So what do you say gang, move my package for me for 20k?"

He briefs you all on what he already told Firestorm and Thunderhead.  Then asks if you have any more questions.

Thunderhead quietly surveys the group, feeling confident that it looks like a pretty solid team.

Hopefully someone else tries to negotiate, as 20k is great money for a milk run, but isn't nearly enough if things go seriously sideways. Every time I try to negotiate and things get heated, Max gets all agitated and activates his Fear power. Then things go to drek in a big hurry. Best to keep quiet.

Anything we need to know about the package? Would it be traced by any means? Radio, radiation or magic emissions? Is it living? Makes it noise...or at least it is able to produce sound? Is it visualy appealing? Is it tought or fragile? Sensitive to elements, temperature and electricity?

You take a look at a simple AR map that automatically shows you the path.  It's tough terrain, and definitely in the middle of nowhere.  The dwarf briefs you on the details of carrying the contraband.  You each will have a backpack that can be used to carry the loot, however each person with a backpack will be encumbered and have a -1 to agility & reaction.  This is in the case that you can no longer carry it on the drone for whatever reason.  The package needs to get out tomorrow night for it to arrive in a timely fashion.  He'll leave Seattle and eventually take Hwy 503 and you will get off at the drop-off point.  He'll come back 2 days later and pick you up at the same time.

He says he'll have the drone fixed up and ready for you when you meet at the garage tomorrow at 1700 hours.

@Thermo:

From your knowledge of smuggling routes you agree with the dwarf that the route he's proposing is definitely the most secure.  The main dangers are encountering tribal foot patrols and then the para-wild life.  The tribal patrols are very well trained fighters and outdoorsman.  They should not be underestimated.

Brick will pack his Panther AC with 5 clips of AC rounds (95 rounds), Ingram smartgunX  with 80 stick and shock/80 Exex/80 APDS ammo, his Combat Axe, Karmabit and shock glove.) Other gear to be brought:
Backpack, Trama patch,  stim patch rating 6, Medkit rating 6, Flashbangs (bought 2 60¥) x4, (bought 2 for 60¥)  Smoke Grenade x4, Rations x8 bought for 40¥ (It doesn't specify how much you get per "rations" p.53 Arsenal, so I'm just counting it as a single meal per.), survival kit, smart canteens and his Armorers toolkit. Firewall packs his things up and heads out. The bomb is not armed and he makes a mental note to arm it once they arrive at the pickup point.

I'd better let the others know they should stay out of my pack.

He shows up half an hour early, doing a few walk by runs and checking the garage out again to see if anything looks amiss.

Thunderhead packs up his new outdoor survival gear, tucks Nova into his pack, and heads out towards the garage with Max and Shoryuken. He brings 5 magazines regular ammo, 3 magazines EX-EX ammo, and 2 magazines silver ammo. The rest of the ammo gets tucked back into the ammo box that he keeps under the loose floorboards in the closet.

Let's rock.

By 17:00 everyone has arrived at the garage and is not saying much to each other but just packing gear up, tightening up straps, checking weapons, double checking their lists.  The Amerind dwarf is putting the finishing touches on a dull-tannish NeoNet Paddy drone with it's wheel system completely swapped out with spider-walker legs.  When he's done he takes off his work apron and goggles and you find him to be in an unusually good mood.

"By the way, they call me Beartooth.  So it looks like we're all ready to go, so let's pack up the truck gentelmen."

He gets the drone to lurch up off it's chasis a little clumsily, but as the new autosofts kick in it seems to get used to its new legs.  It climbs into the back of Beartooth's GMC stepvan and the rest of you pile in just as the sun is beginning to go down.

After an 90 minutes through block after block of the concrete jungle that is the Seattle metro-plex, you reach the edge of UCAS territory.  At the checkpoint Beartooth flashes a few AR documents and along with a little cred slotted to the Salish-Shidhe guards, you finally are smoothly cruising on Hwy 530.  The thick dense awakened forest often times blocks out the moonless night sky completely as it canopies overhead and after only 30 minutes Beartooth pulls over to the side of the road and looks both ways down the highway checking if the coast is clear.

"Hear's the drop-off gentlemen.  Let's do this quick."

He opens his driver-side door and steps out after turning off the head-lights and plunging you into darkness which only your metatype vision can penetrate.  The four backpacks full of contraband are all bundled together and strapped to the drone.  He shoots Firewall a passkey for admin access.  As soon as everyone is out with their gear he waves to you all and as soon as his headlights are flooding the road again he takes off back the way you came leaving you alone at the border of what could loosely be described as Cascade tribal territory.

There is still decent wifi coming off the Grid Guide RFID's mixed in with the highway pavement.  Your comm's GPS systems show you which direction to start off in and you plunge into the forest which stands like a dark green wall at the side of the road.  While weaving through trees and bushes after about 100m away from the highway wifi begins to drop off and Zach engages his GPS system which reads signals directly from geo-stationary coordinate satellites.  You push on.

[OOC: You are in the thick of forest.  Let me know if there's anything special you wanna do, otherwise i'll continue in my next post.  Low-light vision eliminates visibility modifiers, Thermographic brings it down to -2 for visibility.  Long range visibility will be modified by foliage effects which I will determine on a case-by-case basis.]

@Firewall:

As soon as you feel the wifi start to ebb you look back longingly at the highway and you feel your head start to split with a migraine as the warm buzz of the matrix's eternal shower of data-packets begins to fade and your brain feels cold and exposed to the chilly mountain air.

[OOC: roll a composure test (2) and if you don't make it take a -1 to all your actions]

Brick turns his commlink to Private as his Panther sends him system checks. Smartlink: online, commlink status: Private, Change fire selection: Semi Automatic, All systems functioning. He opens an open channel for the team only. (@team) Everyone fan out. We don't won't know where we'll take contact from so until we take it so we should move in a diamond formation about 5-6 meters apart if not more. It'll let us shift 75% of our fire power to any side that we get hit from and allow us clean lines of fire to return fire without worrying if our friends are in the way. (OOC: Unless anyone has a better idea.) Brick hands Zach the HK-XM30.  Zach go be our cat, take point and call out any "rats" you see. Thunderhead pick a flank, take your companions and back Zach up please, also if we need a flanking element, your companions would be the best suited for it. Firewall, since you have the drone would you like to take the rear? I can go anywhere. Brick pauses to allow the team to move into formation. So we're all on the same page, we should do whatever possible to avoid contact with any possible patrols, which means we don't engage unless necessary. If we must engage it is with overwhelming force. We all know the priority targets, geek the mage, the heavy weapons, and medics first-second-third. Remember out here they have re-enforcements and if we don't kill them all and/or then get away asap, we'll be in a world of pain. If you encounter a scout moving alone, and you can't avoid him seeing you, kill him quickly and quietly. If there is critter issue, thunderhead will handle it, or we'll put it down as quiet as possible. If you suspect anything hostile, report it. If we encounter a patrol and they don't see us, we all halt and get low, wait for them to pass and then another 5-10 minutes before moving on. we will stop to rest every hour and a half for 10 minutes so we can have a snack/chow and water. If we need to hunker down to sleep, we'll need a secure location to do so. Now if there aren't any questions, lets move out. As you start moving away from the highway you notice the terrain is manageable but definitely isn't something that can be navigated with any speed.  You seem to be averaging about 1km/hr with all the climbing and shuffling down inclines with the drone and all.  After only about half a kilometer you notice Firewall doesn't look well at all.  He's sweating bullets and is having a hard time containing his occasional groans.  Without a word he falls to his knees and clutches his head.

"I can't take this....the silence is gonna make me go mad!"

Just as quickly he rises to his feet and takes off into the night booking at full speed in the general direction of the highway.....but Sichr is the one with the GPS so there's no way he could know for sure.  It happens so quickly none of you have a chance to respond and within only a minute or two his bio-PAN has dropped off the list of your team's nodes.

Without much left to do other than look at each other and shrug, you decide to press forward.  Brick looks at his PAN and notices that luckily the elf was wise enough to give all the team members user access to the drone.  This includes basic controls and access to it's rather antiquated sensor array.

After a kilometer of pressing further into the dense forest, over foothills, through gulleys, around rock formations, the whole time trying to leave as little a trail as possible and spreading out in a manner described by Brick with Zach scouting up ahead; you hear a bone chilling howl ring out through the night.  The howl is answered by other howls.  The team freezes in place for about a minute holding it's position and just listening but you don't hear any movement so eventually you keep on moving, extra quiet this time.

Current Time -- 21:00.  Distance covered: 1km

[OOC: Someone give me a Para-Critter knowledge skill roll or default on one if you don't have it.  You can also give me an audio perception test to try and narrow down the location from which the howls came.  Also give me another round of infiltration rolls everyone.]

Zach takes the riffle from Brick, loads it, locks and looks towards te forrest.
Its been a while, I got used to the city. OK. Ill do whatever I can. Follow me and stay low.
He allows Sylvia, small dragonfly drone, left by wagner, to fly freely, commanding her to stay 3 meters in front of him, sneaky and perceptive.
Then he lowers his commlinks signal almost down to zero:
I would prefer radio silence. We need to stay close enought to see each other, radio down, they are sure as hell looking for something like that. If you have soudn filter, we may tune it for our voices...it wont  overhelm you, but allow you to hear each other clearly even when whispering. When separated, dug in and stay on the place, don`t run away, it wont help. We go in nice a easy, in and out, as always, do we, Brick...
With sarcastic grin still on his face, Zach turns to Thunderhead:
If any of your pets assess dual, good, if not, you better check it out from time to time, those Amerinds are almost as cunning as we Siberrians..that means paracrits and watchers in the air.

Zach turns back to forrest, takes in deeply, enjoying the nature all around.
At least we dont die on concrete.

Then he moves forward, fulfilling his role as the point.

@Thunderbeard:

You can tell that the howl definitely comes from something paranormal, but you're pretty unfamiliar with the specifics of the north-american wilderness.  You can tell the howl's are coming from about half a mile north of you.

Your Merlin is soaring over-head and even though your mental image through it's eyes is a bit blurry you can make out the details of the canopy of the forest below it.  As you try to scan the field of view of the Merlin you suddenly feel your foot catch something hard and whatever it was that you hit gives way.  You take your focus away form the mental image in your mind coming from the bird and look down to see a rock tumbling down the side of a small ravine and you flinch as the echo reverberates through the night.  The sound cuts the howling short and once everything settles you hear only silence.

[OOC: You're sustaining a spell, so this gives you a -2 to all your other tests and that means your infiltration roll was a critical glitch!]

@Zach:

Before hearing the ridiculously loud crash of the rocks that Thunder caused, you could already tell that those howls are most likely coming from Barghests.  Packs of them are quite frequent in these parts.  You don't know enough about their behavior though to give you any more details other than what probably made that howl.

Thunderhead's already prodigious eyebrows furrow until they threaten to touch in the middle. "BLAST", he grumbles under his breath.

He freezes, waiting for the sounds to subside before focusing on the Merlin Hawk's senses once again. He switches from normal vision to astral, trying to see any dual natured beings that might be racing towards their position.

[OOC: did Thunder see any areas of the forest that appeared to give a break in the trees where we might be able to fight more effectively? Specifically looking for an area where the sight lines open up so we don't have the critters right on top of us.]

The infinite beauty of the forest when viewed through astral space is breathtaking with it's dance of colors, lights, and feelings but the downside to that is that it is far far too astrally bright to really see much of anything under the canopy with your Merlin.

[OOC: the Barghests go first.  B6's Paralyzing Howl: Cha 3 + Magic 4 (7d6.hits(5)=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3282926/).  Everyone resist with Willpower, net hits are subtracted from your Reaction attribute and if it's reduced to zero then you're paralized and reaction comes back at 1/minutes (20 CT's).  B1 Attacks to subdue Brick, B5 Attacks to subdue Zach.

B1's attack on Brick: Ag 5 + Unarmed 3 + Charge 2 = (10d6.hits(5)=0) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3282938/).  You didn't get defense roll but he rolled no hits so it misses.
B5's attack on Zach: Ag 5 + Unarmed 3 + Charge 2 = (10d6.hits(5)=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3282939/).  Zach gets defense roll since Surprise scores are the same.  Barghest Strength is 5, so if Str + net hits exceeds your body you're immobilized.

Now it's the teams turn and you can post in any order since i'm sure none of you mind if a teammate goes first.  If so then we'll retcon it.  Make sure to narrate the result of the barghest attack.]

Suddenly without warning it happens.  Darting at lightning fast speed you see the smooth, agile, muscled forms of 6 canine like beasts whose eyes and teeth glow a slight green from bio-luminescent  bacteria.  You have almost no time to react.  One of them stops right in the middle of the spread out formation of the team and howls into the night sending shivers down your spine that you know can't be natural.  Brick get's caught unaware from the back as a Barghest jumps on him but slides off as it's bite clamps down on one of his horns and slides off.  Another Barghest dives at Zach, seemingly completely oblivious to his glassy form due to his chameleon suit.

The massive Barghest leaps up to land down on you maw first, but you jam your claw into the bottom of it's mouth and move out of the way as it lands on it's feet in the place you used to be standing.  You feel warm wet fluorescent blood on your hands and the dog-like beast whimpers.

Brick tenses himself for combat just as the howl goes up. (3d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3286230/) (-2 reaction for a new base of 3) As the howl's supernatural power creeps into his mind he focuses on the grips of his weapons willing himself to not freeze, just as a shadow speeds past on his left, he see's the other hounds come into view. His Instincts to drive them off or at least deter them from attacking kick in just in time. He raises his Ingram X, aims, and opens fire with a long, wide, burst (with Exex rounds +1DV-1AP) at the hound in the center. (B2.)  (8d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3286321/) (incoming damage 6P+2 net hits -1AP -5 to Reaction NOTE: This weapon is Silenced and anything listening out there would face a -4 to perceive it.)

Thunderhead can feel all his muscles cramping at once from the blasted beast's howl. The effect is excruciating, as though he was turned into a tight-grained piece of wood. Though he didn't know what exactly he was facing, he knew that he could call to Morrigan for support. He relaxed, allowing images to flash into his mind, images of the Terrible Queen herself sitting on her cold, dark throne. She was surrounded by giant black wolves, slavering and growling. She smiled at Thunderhead with the slightest hint of amusement and pointed at one of the larger wolves, who leapt forward and materialized from the metaplanes into the physical one. It was even bigger than Max, and as it curled back its lips one could see that its teeth were literally dripping with a black saliva that smoked and hissed in the night air [OOC: optional power Venom]. In his vision, Thunderhead fell to his knees and planted one side of his face on the stone floor at Morrigan's feet, reverently prostrate at her mercy.

Even though Brick felt one of those things clamp on to his horn and then slide off, it moved so quick he decides to stay focused on threats he can see clearly.  With his Ingram in one hand and his combat axe in the other he fires a wide burst over at the incoming Barghests.  The rounds leave the chamber quietly but on contact they explode sending popping sounds into the night which echo through the valley.  One of those pops erupts in a splatter of fluorescent blood and one of the beasts gets thrown on to it's haunches as it yelps in pain.  The explosive rounds, though loud, were scary enough so that it quickly gets up and takes off into the forest to go lick its wounds

Facing two oponents, Zach rather defenses himself. One of barghests jumped, well Zach moved out of the line even before the Barghest can try to catch him, Other one was more sucessfull, and Zach had to use his Claw again to parry Barghests stinking MAW.

Max resist paralyzing howl: Wil(5) (5d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3289736/) [Max's rea goes from 4 to 2]

[OOC: The following rolls were totally botched by your's truly (used the wrong number of dice, compounded by other slap-forehead mistakes) and therefore after talking with Inca we decided to use the raw dice rolls to settle this combat round for Max. Hence no Invisible Castle reference unless you want to go on and see the mess I made, the numbers are all in there  :)  ]

[Max's defense roll: Rea(2)+Unarmed Combat(4) = (4,2,3,5,3,2) = 1 success]
[Max uses 1 point of Edge to re-roll failures: (3,6,5,5,6) = 4 successes (5 total)]

Max manages to blunt the attacking barghest's charge at the last moment, causing the slavering jaws to slide harmlessly off Max's thick coat and making the beast stumble as it is deflected away from Max's frozen pack-mate, Thunderhead. Max quickly lunges forward with his huge jaws and tries to bite the barghest on its neck while it is off-balance.

Max attack B6: Agi(5)+Unarmed Combat(4)+Previously Defended(-1) (8d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3289564/) [OOC: This is one of the rolls that got messed up, the last die was subtracted when it should have been included]
Extra die for Max's attack (mistakenly subtracted) (1d6.hits(5)=0) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3289754/)

[OOC: So Max's attack hits with 2 successes, unless defended. Base damage is 6P plus net hits]

As the second barghest charges in Brick drops the ingram from his right hand so that it's wolf hook sling brings it back to his body and brings the axe up to parry as jaws snap at him.(8d6.hits(5), 7d6.hits(5)=[5, 1, 3, 3, 3, 1, 1, 6](2), [1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 4, 2](0)) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290079/) (OOC: Parried the first attack, using edge on the 2nd to reroll misses.(7d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290085/) that's 7P incoming, but it doesn't beat my armor rating so it's 7S, rolling to soak, body 8 + impact armor 9= 17dp (17d6.hits(5)=6) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290089/) that's 1S.)

Brick gets the axe up just in time to catch B1's jaws with the handle and pushes it back while turning the handle 90 degrees to throw it off balance. As he does he turns his body to face B3 as it comes in, knocking it's snout away from his hand, just to land on his forearm. Brick feels the strength behind the jaws as they bite down and knows he was lucky he deflected the bite just in time. As he shakes B3 off his fore arm he raises his axe high and swings at B3. Agility 5 + Weapon skill 3=8dp (8d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290121/) (OOC: Edge again to avoid glitching! >:( edge reroll for the attack 7dp (7d6.hits(5)=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290125/) that's 3 net hits.)

[OOC: That Edge roll for B2 wasn't a use of Edge, it was just the attribute roll for heavy damage...see augmentation.  Speaking of Edge though, you can only use Edge once per roll though, so you're last use of Edge isn't gonna work since you negated a glitch on the roll with it so keep your last point of Edge.  For the attack, you need to add your reach in there, which is +2 for axe and +1 for troll...so you have 3 more dice.  I'll roll them for you to save time.  Brick's Reach: (3d6.hits(5)=0) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290162/).]

@Zach:
[OOC: you're the only one with a 3rd IP, so you used you 2nd IP to go Full Defense, so your attack comes on the 3rd and final IP.  B4's defense: Reaction 6 + Unarmed 3 = (9d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290172/).  That's 7P incoming.  B4's defense: Reaction 6 + Unarmed 3 = (9d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290172/).  It takes 4P.

Brick moves to parry (11d6.hits(5)=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290878/) B1 and again manages to deflect a full bite as it's maw clamps down on his covered forearm,  (17d6.hits(5)=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3290881/). The parry must have set him up better than he thought as the Barghest's teeth find only a plate of armor to bite on. Brick twists his arm free pushing B1 away. He steps back to face B3 expecting it to come at him and instead makes the mistake of meeting its eyes... @Zach:
[OOC: B5: Reaction 6 + Wound -2 = (4d6.hits(5)=0) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3294970/).  Critical Glitch.]

The Barghest who is staring at you growling eats a whole volley of rounds from you HK and it's head blows up as well as a limb gets torn off as it falls into a bloody heap of dog flesh.

@Brick:
[OOC: your glitch will make it so that you run and also get lost.  Team will have to spend time reconnecting with you.]

You've never felt a terror like this but all you can do is whip around and hall-ass with the only thought in your mind being putting as much distance as possible between you and that god forsaken thing even though you don't hear it coming behind you.  The brush whips you i the face and you run without direction, your screams reverberating through the night.

Max takes off running into the forest.

Just before the Barghest can take off after him, the massive wolf with glowing violet eyes which give off a violet arcane haze jumps on it.  It sinks it's canines into its neck and the poisonous saliva seeps into the wound and works its magic.

@Zach & Thermo:

The Barghests that were attacking Brick and Zach all run off into the night whimpering, the hunting pack decimated beyond repair.  With some of its best hunters lost their young will most likely not survive the coming winter.

The one Barghest left lays dead in the mouth of Thermo's spirit.  It brings the corpse to Thermo's feet and then lays down next to it and begins chewing the thing apart.

After a few minutes Thermo feels his body tingle back into motion, the pins and needles excruciating but at least he can start to move again.  You both look at each other and start regroup.  There is no sign of Brick and not even his screams can be heard any more.  His node isn't appearing even though he should still be within signal range....most likely due to terrain interference.  He'll probably have to be tracked by more traditional methods.

Thermo hopes Max will somehow find his way back to him.

[OOC: It will require a Tracking + Intuition (8, 30 min) extended test.  Combat is over.  You could do another  separate one if you wanna look for Max. ]

@Zach: "We need Max to track Brick. We wait here."

@Wolf spirit (telepathic): "Brother wolf, seek out your pack-mate Max the Fenrir Wolf and lead him back to me."

Thunderhead briefly closes his eyes, and his Queen sees his need. She sends a hummingbird spirit to send a message to the terrified Brick.

Thunderhead telepathically tells the watcher spirit to find Brick (sends him mental picture) and give him the message that Thunder is sending a pack-mate to retreive him. If Brick has a reply the watcher spirit is instructed to bring it back to Thunderhead.

Thunderhead sits down on the mossy ground and rests, trying to shrug off any final effects of the battle and the subsequent summoning.

[OOC: I'm sending the beast spirit back out to find Brick and bring him back to us here. Summoning the watcher spirit took a little more out of Thunderhead than expected (no drain resist hits!), so he's going to continue to sit and relax for a while longer to recover from stun damage. Watcher spirit is limited to 6 hours (6S drain - 0 hits on drain resist = 6S damage)]

@Spirit Beast (telepathically): "Wolf-brother, seek out our pack-mate Brick. He is lost and needs to be led back to the rest of the pack. We will wait here for your return."

Max is sitting on the ground next to Thunderhead, who is cross-legged with his eyes closed while he purges his body of negative energy. Max is alert and is actively on guard, looking, listening, and smelling for any signs of trouble.

Shoryuken lands on Thunder's shoulder with a flutter of wings and a sharp "clink" sound as his talons grab into the chainmail coif. Once the bird has had a few minutes to rest and clean itself, Thunderhead instructs it to perform its new trick, "Finden Blume". The hawk launches back into the air, circling overhead and searching for the magical flower.

Nova is curled up in Thunderhead's pack, sleeping happily. She is still maintaining her Combat Sense spell and has been instructed to alert Thunder if she expects an ambush.

Fuck! we are sitting ducks here with bloody Salish or Crows patrols all around.
Zach looks arond the battlefield with a disgusted look and his face.
Could you at least cleanse this place? I dont want to leave unnecessary signatures on bodies.
After first hour of waiting, he is getting a bit nervous. He stands up and walks to the place Brick disapears into the woods.
It would be faster if I trace him down traditional way.
Reloading fired rounds to the clip, routine check of the perimetter with his senses focused at maximum. He don`t want to think about the possibility that Brick is dead and they will have to continue without him.
Look, Thunder. We need to take the possibility of man-down situation into consideration. We cannot wait forever, we had a work to do. Even Brick would hardly be that far your sprits cannot find him. How long would we wait?
Title: Re: Urban Brawl -- 6th scenario

"You are correct, we need to be quiet to avoid further detection. We don't know what or who might be out there. That is why we need to rest, recover strength, and get our team back together."

After the first hour, Thunder is feeling much more refreshed, just a bit longer and he'll be back at full strength.

"The spirits I sent out are still searching for him. They will report to me when they locate him, alive or not. We need to have patience. We will know if he is alive soon enough. And as for tracking him down the traditional way, you can go if you wish. You'll be taking this infernal machine with you, or leaving it with me, either of which is a terrible option."

Thunder does, however, think that cleansing the site is a good idea. After feeling refreshed, he switches to astral perception and quietly walks the area, being as slow and careful as possible. He eliminates all the signatures that were left behind on both the bodies and on the ground and trees.

Eeeh crap..if we are going to rest and recover strenghts every hour we are going to spend month on this journey. But If your mojo is able to find him even if he is dead, Ill wait for confirmation. I dont want to left him here. Its just...its not the Bricks way to behave like this. Some fuckin barghest mojo must be in play. At least we drive those beasts away, otherwise they wil chase him in pack and kill him when he is extinguished.

#4 (5d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3299500/)
(....go to hell Invisible castle. >:()

Brick comes out of the fear after about 6 seconds, his head foggy all he remembers is the barghest that he almost killed starring into his eyes before the compulsion to just get the fuck out over ran everything in his memory. He takes a knee, to access his surroundings and to check himself, all of his weapons are still on him reporting via his smartlink, he feels the Axe's weight in his right hand. Listening to the night he struggles to hear anything beyond the natural sounds of the forest, some sign that either a barghest followed him or a team mate took off after him. Hearing nothing Brick searches for signs of his boot's imprints upon the earth, with the way he took off into the night he wouldn't have had the sense the be stealthy so he must have left some kind of trail... After a a minute passes he's started on retrasing his steps back to the team. He make's slow progress the over encompassing darkness hindering him but he keeps moving. As he goes his HUD tells him how long he's been at it... "Over an Hour has gone by. It'll be a miracle if they haven't left the site of the fight..." Just then a purple glow comes into view. Brick recognizes it as the wolf spirit Thunder summoned to defend himself. "Are you here for the stray?" He asks. The purple wolf Stare's at Brick before  turning around and trotting back into the woods. Brick knowing better than to refuse this small kindness jogs after the wolf, gun and axe in hand just in case all he finds are more of those damned hounds.

After a few more minutes Brick emerges from the darkness with the wolf spirit in the lead, his Ingram X and his Axe both in hand. As he see's Thunder and Zach he lowers his weapons slightly. (@team subvocal): "Well frag all! I didn't expect you guys to still be here... Thanks for waiting. Those fucking things did something to me and I don't know what happened but I came out of it a ways away. What did I miss?"

Thunderhead has had a chance to rest and is done wandering around the area wiping the astral signatures clean. The Barghests have a sick, desperate aura to their bodies, even in death. They are truly disgusting beasts. Max is on guard duty, Nova is sleeping with Combat Sense active, and Shoryuken is circling the area looking for the magical flower using his Detection spells.

Thunderhead orders the Watcher Spirit back from its search. When it returns, it buzzes around Brick excitedly, like a dog waiting for a treat for some trick it thinks it did. Thunder says "Good! you found him! nice job" for the whole team to hear. The hummingbird twitters in delight.

He telepathically tells the hummingbird "Watch over the group for any astral disturbances, alert me to anything hostile"

"It seems that we're ready to continue"

He feels a bit distant from the situation. Long forgotten memories of and old Sibberian smuggler began to wake up in the wilderness, shaking off urban mask he wored for such a long time. This was the place he belongs. Not exactly homeground, but he fells good outside the metroplex, away from all those crowds of wageslaves and addicts he met every single day. In the city, he was just another piece in the game of rich and powerfull, no matter how hard he tried to avoid it. But here, in wilderness...even death would be pure and beautifull, purposefull.

From your point of view Brick's hulking form seems to be covering up LOS to the girl.
[OOC: careful not to metagame in this next bit here, neither of you see any of what is to follow in the narration that is directed at Brick.]

@Brick:

When you reach for her hand, your hand passes right through her and doesn't touch anything.  You suddenly feel a chill run down your spine as you feel that something is not at all right about this.  You look her dead in the eye and feel her gaze piercing as she moves closer and closer!  You hear a voice in your head:
"No....let me SHOW YOU!!!!"

@Brick:

You fight at the push on your soul that you feel and you tense every muscle in your body. Suddenly you feel the force give way and depart from your mind.  You open your eyes and don't see anything in front of you.  You have heard of souls of the deceased remaining in this realm and haunting the places of their death.  The way they interact with the world is through medium conduits into this world.  She must have tried to use your own body as a medium into the physical world.

@Thermo & Zach:

You see Brick turn around and alert you all to the danger and what he thinks is going on

You all stand there looking at each other while your eyes still dart occasionally into the forest.  Everything falls so quiet you can even hear the little flapping of your dragonflys polymer wings.  It seems that there is no longer anything nearby.  Suddenly Thermo and Brick see Zach's eyes roll up until only the whites are visible, he twitches and convulses while foam starts to pool around his tusks.  Just as suddenly he shudders one more time and remains motionless.  His eyes open and instantly Brick sees that this isn't his fellow runner....this is someone else entirely.  An arcane mist rises off his form and he speaks.  The voice is no longer the gravelly russian you're used to but rather the timbre of a 7 year old girl.

"I want to play!!!"

Thunderhead curses softly, wishing that his vicious spirit wolf was able to understand concepts of "mercy" and "temperance". Ah well, his Dark Queen sent the pack-mate to kill and maim, not coddle.

Thunderhead instantly severs the shimmering link binding the spirit wolf to this world, giving a respectful "WOOF" as the spirit returns to the metaplanes.

Time seems to slow down as Thunderhead finds himself once again before his Dark Queen. Merciless and cold, she is unaccustomed to providing "humane" solutions to human problems. She smiles as the answer comes to her.

A lumbering brown bear appears from behind a tree, its shimmering fur sticking up in strange directions. It appears to have just been awakened from its hibernation. Its breath is so strong that there are actually tendrils of smoke coming from its mouth. It sleepily looks over at Zach, and yawns. The plume of its breath smells terribly, terribly bad.

Thunder hears Brick's yell just in time to realize what's happening. This goddamn spirit is going to wear us down to nothing if we don't do something about it.

If we end up harming Zach at least I'll have a shot at healing him.

Thunder tries to dodge the shots, knowing full well that while they're shock rounds and therefore are nonlethal they could certainly cause his mana to get depleted in a big hurry. Fortunately, there's a big tree in between him and Brick, which should certainly help the situation!

Roll to Dodge: Reaction(2)+Good Cover(4) (6d6.hits(5)=1, 6d6.hits(5)=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3384013/)

One of the rounds slams into Thunder's arm, catching him on the metal chainmail coat. The chainmail offers no protection, fortunately his full-body form-fitting armor will help at least some.

As soon as Thermo rebukes the possessor of Zach with all his might, his wizened dwarven face snarling with the strain, silence suddenly seize the forest and the bear stands down.  Zach stands perfectly motionless his eyes closed and his head bowed.  Beside him stands the little girl you saw before, sniffling with tears running down her cheeks.  She looks at Brick and Thermo with a wide eyes and a sad face.  She lets go of Zach's hand and turns to walk off into the mist which envelopes her until she disappears from view.

As soon as she's gone from sight Zach falls to his knees clutching his head.

@Zach:
You suddenly wake up and your head is banging.  The first thing you see is a massive stinking bear huffing and puffing a noxious mist into the crips night air.  Behind them Brick aiming his Ingram at you and Thermo slowly picking himself up off the ground next to his pet wolf staring at you intently.  You have no idea what happened.  The last thing you remember was a little girl.  As soon as you think of her images and scenes start flashing through your mind.
NAN soldiers rummaging through the cottage
Gun fire...daddy's bloodied hand reaching out to you
You run and run
A POP in the night and you fall to your knees...your pajamas soiled and stained

You shake your head to throw off the horrible fear these images give you.

You see Zach's aura has returned to normal and is only a little shooken up.

As the spirit leaves his body and the cage and chains binding his soul slowly fade away, he fell to his kneee, drolling and almost crying....

Jo...Job tvoyu mať !!!...Oh god notnononono not any more...

his tone changed from cursing almost to begging, as pictures of childrens demise run through his mind.

He dropped heavily on his hands, resting against the cursed soil of this place, breathing deeply, slowly looking around...

Are you guys OK? Hope I didnt made too much damage...

Thunderhead sits down on a fallen log, grunting under his breath as his bruised ribs and aching back give him hell. The electric shock rattled him to the point that his teeth still felt all coppery. Goddamn technology. Used to be that when a dwarf got shot he died, he shrugged it off, or he recovered. Not the indignity of being knocked off his feel by a flying battery.

Max comes over to sit by his master. The big dog, still invisible to most viewers, makes an indent on the soft ground as he sits down heavily. He did good; he didn't attack their pack-mate, even though every instinct in him said that he should have.

Thunder says: "We need to rest for a bit before we pack this stuff out. Max can carry two bags if you guys can get the harness made up. Make sure it's quick-release so I can release him if we get into trouble."

With that, Thunder closes his eyes and begins to meditate, sitting cross legged on the log. He drops his Increased Reflexes spell and allows himself to heal. 3 hours should be enough time to get back to full health.

Overhead, Shoryuken circles protectively, looking out for trouble and also casting his Detect Flower spell to try and find the elusive awakened flower Thunderhead needs to bargain the new spell out of his talismonger.

The sound from far off doesn't seem to happen again but it seems that waiting around here isn't a good idea with all the critters roaming the forrest.

The team starts trudging forward at a much slower pace from having to carry the payload.  Finally about an hour later climb down a steep hillside and you arrive at a creek nestled in a tight mountain valley which is almost the size of a river...about 20m across.  The sun hasn't come up yet and you are all relying on lowlight to see.  Your destination is only 1 mile north.

Drek, the sun's going to come up any minute. Thunderhead decides to risk it and dismisses his spirit bear, calling on his Dark Queen to send a beast who can fly. He closes his eyes and focuses, and in his mind he is laying at the Dark Queen's feet. She nods approvingly at him and waves her hand in the air. A huge Roc appears, ready to do his bidding. Oh hell this would only slow us down. Lets try something else. Im not going to make this few kilometers a week trip...

ZAch pulls out his grapple gun from the backpack and places one grapple across the river. Climbing there and then back a few times, he sets quite firm rope "bridge" over the river. One by one he began to pull those cofee bags across the river, using his climbing gear to bind those bags firmly for the transport. As the end comes Thunder and Brick as the rear guard. Bot having too much time to pack the whole thing, Zach pulls out his catalyst stick.

So...whaddya think. Should I break the path? Or should I levae it be for further use?

You manage to cross the turbulent river using the rope system and after about another half a kilometer you come to an encampment.  Man with obvious tribal markings and armor greet you with assault rifles but as soon as you ID yourselves they let you in.  They take you into the main tent where you finally drop the heavy load your carrying and breathe a sigh of relief.  A human native man who seems to be high ranking in the military greets you and takes out a combat knife to cut a small slit in one of the bags.  He kneels and catches a few of the coffee beans spilling out and lifts them to his nose.  After breathing in a big waft of the scent he smiles deeply and broadly and stands back up.

"Perfect.  Council bickering has had shipments of this stuff tied up in customs for months and I wasn't about to go another morning without my favorite brew.  From the bottom of my heart I thank you and your employer.  Now that you no longer have any contraband I'm sure your trip back will be much quicker."

You bid farewell to the military man and leave the encampment.  Travelling under broad daylight is much easier and feels far safer.  Thunderhead's hawk even finds one specimen of the Beixaflor flower and alerts him.  He carefully picks it and puts it away in a special glass jar.  Only twice do you need to duck down and wait out some border patrols but eventually you make it back to the highway where the Johnson dropped you off.  You find him there lying in the flatbed of his truck pulled over by the side of the road toking on who knows what from a massive pipe.  As soon as he sees you he smiles and sits up.  The first thing he hands you before saying anything is a certified credstick with 20,000 nuyen on it.

"Good job people....hey, weren't there 4 of you? ........I see...well I hope the elf finds his way home eventually."

You explain to him that you have no idea where the fourth member of team went once he totally freaked out and had a breakdown but waiting for him was futile.  You all drive off and head back home to seattle....
