There is only one God.
There is only one God but there is an infinite number of planes. All possible planes exists. They differ in time, size, physical or magic laws. Some are accessible only from some others, but all possible planes exists. All are tunes of the great Harmony, which is the work of God.
On some planes God sung entities and gave them free will to travel the metaplanes. The entities inhabit their plane. They can travel to other planes if they learn ways to do so but belong to the one they are born on. The curse of free will makes entities continously dream of a better place to live so their dreams, songs, prayers, wishes, curses, hates go to other planes and entities inhabiting them. Those prayers strengthen both the planes and entities inhabiting them. With sufficient faith a plane with all his entities can be shifted. Once the life of the entity ends on it's plane, if it will so and is accepted it can move to the plane of it's dreams strengthening it further.
Some planes are closer to God. They witness more of the Harmony. More numerous planes have greater impact on the Harmony, their choirs are better heard by the God.
Earth 2072 is one of the planes inhabited by metahumans. It is frequently visited by metaplanar travellers, because of the primitivity of the entities that inhabit it. Metahumans are prone to being faithful and numerous enough that winning their Essence make a difference in the metaplanar struggle.
There is the Struggle.
If an entity from any plane dominate the Harmony, it could influence the God. Maybe even understand the God. Maybe even become the God itself. Or maybe (a dreadful thought) replace the God. But maybe there isn't one God, but as there infinite number of planes so are infinite Gods and dominating Harmony is a way to become one. Free will is Curse as along with it comes Curiosity. Curiosity fuel Ambition. Ambition fuel the Struggle. Struggle for the Ultimate Reward of becoming a God.
Infinite milleniums ago a War in heavens begun and it last until today...
Dominions and Domains.
There are nine domains in between divided into three spheres as identified by metaplaner traveller Dionysius the Areopagite, who has later returned after his ascension to be prayed to and named a saint.
Starting from the closest to the God.
Sphere of Contemplation
Choir I - Domain of Seraphims
Choir II - Domain of Cherubims
Choir III - Domain of Thrones
Sphere of Cosmos
Choir IV - Domain of Dominions
Choir V - Domain of Virtues
Choir VI - Domain of Powers
Sphere of Planes
Choir VII - Domain of Princedoms
Choir VIII - Domain of Archangels
Choir IX - Domain of Angels
Terra - Domain of metahumans in this hierarchy is considered to be Sphere of Flesh and a Choir X, below are Choirs of the Animals, Choirs of the Insects
Each plane has a barrier in the form of an astral plane. Between the Sphere of Flesh and Sphere of Planes are dominions of all traditions. Dominions serves as a gateway to the higher sphere. There is as many dominions as it's followers, and inifinite number of those that aren't being followed. As soon as a single entity believe in it's existance a plane is created to respond to such dreams. If it gather enough essence it became a gateway to the Sphere of Planes.
Entities from Black magic dominion and Witchcraft dominion that are gateways to the plane of Demons arranged an alliance against Christian dominion that is a gateway to the plane of Angels. Other smaller or larger dominions, like Aztec, Islam, Sworn brothers of the Sword and multitude of Shaman domains fight their own part in the Struggle.
It doesn't mean that this are the only two participants of the Struggle, which is clearly pictured by the Insect hierarchy or Dragon hierarchy making their advances on the Sphere of Flesh. It doesn't mean that the planes do not mix which each other. Fire entities are found equaly often in higher domains, like in their native plane of Fire. The planes are infinite and so are hierarchies but there is only one God.
You aren't common spirits.
You belong to the Choir of Angels (or more specifically Choir of Demons), and thus you have the power called Word of Order, which really is a tune of the Harmony that bends the lesser planes to your will. If you accumulate enough Karma during your lifetime or for some outstanding actions, you might be rewarded with ascension to the higher Choir. Note that you aren't the only higher beings on Earth, and even you can be trapped and bound by a sufficiently knowledgeable metahumans.
Your Spirit Pact is hold by the Archdemon from the Choir of Archangels, it is through this pact that you are gained permission to leave the Plane of Demons and walk on the Domain of Metahumans. More specifically you are his agents on this plane to fullfill his wishes. Spoiling angelic attempts to win over the metahumans and making advances of your own. It is pretty close to what metahumans call 'running'. But being here on order doesn't mean you cannot have some fun with metahumans... all right lots of fun

"It's a deal then!" Procel left the body of Mrs. Ferrel and floated away. He took it to have a conversation with Jeremy and to enjoy some of the human food. The shrieking voice of Jeremys wife complaining about how she hated being possessed echoed from far away, but she was too deeply involved to actually do anything about it.
Jeremy was as black-hearted as Procel himself, using his position to further his own goals - cruel and merciless. Procel just helped him out to remove some unwelcome witness - he caused a car accident, one of his favorites. He can't stand people claiming to do the right thing for some greater good... now there is one less. In return Jeremy promised to blockade investigations in the last mage murders. It was a small circle of hermetic mages specialized in summoning and binding spirits to their will. The thought alone was sickening him. One by one he took care of them and freeing their bound spirits. He even managed to convince two spirits to stay and fueled their hate towards summoners.
Satisfied Procel floated through the narrow street canyons looking for a nice car to drive and relax...

When the Devil is too busy
(and Death's a bit too much)
they call on me, by name you see,
for my ... special touch.
-Voltaire, "When You're Evil"
You're called - and so you wasted no time to obey and followed the calling. Through the dominions you've ascended to the astral place known as House of Kobal - your superior. Demon prince of mockery, dark humor and prank.
The place itself was a joke, for there was no house, property or anything, only the sign pole claiming "I am somewhere else".
As if to punctuate Kobal himself is standing right beside it wearing a white t-shirt with "here" word written on it. Looking as usual that is a nondescript body, with horns, hoofs and tail as required by etiquette.
I've been robbed. By my own. Can you believe that? I do actually, but that is not important. The thieves took it and descended to the Sphere of Flesh. What's worse is that fool Asmodeus found out somehow about them - they must have strung his traps in the dominions. He claimed them Renegades and sent his hunters after them. I'll not bear if the Game has them down before you or if they claim my Relic.
This are the thieves and a Relic they have stolen. Two spirits appear, their auras bearing marks of Kobal. They go by Shedim (the Corruptor) Ashamael and Habbalah (the Punisher) Lucrezio. The Relic they carry look like a necklace. Delicate piece of work, silver set with a central large beryl and two smaller surrounding ones. The central beryl seems to pulse and flicker with ominous dark green lights.
The hunters went there. A portal opened picturing steel and glass building under the greyish sky. This is Earth year 2072. Seattle. Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. If they really are there, then they must be trying to perfom Joke of the Century, it's the only thing that will save them if I get them, that or switching to the Hosts of Heavens, but I doubt they'll try that.
Your task is to foil the Servitors of the Game (asmodeians), preferably humiliatingly; then to collect the Relic, and the two Renegades. Of course, if they have a Joke in progress, they should be allowed to complete it first. Go!
-
Alex just hated how Kobal always knewn the perfect time to call him - this time, the hauntings on Room 101 of Woodworm Buildings were quite agitated, as if the dead decided not to rest. A perfect moment for study, but then, the boss decided to summon them.
On the House of Kobal stood a fallen angel, his/her looks quite quaint, and maybe antiquate, for the new trends into the demonic hosts: a young guy/girl, clad in a grey tunic, with deep eyes. He/She beared it's wings wide open, more as an identification sign as anything else.
As s/he heard the reason of the call, he takes quick glances at the other beings gathered there. Fortunately, the place on the Plane of Flesh where the thiefs are to be is quite close to his/her own domain there... not that spirits had any difficult travelling to far places, but it was always an advantage to be next to where one has resources.. of the fleshy quality.
Alex believes that to Kobal all is just a game, and the way he weaves his words let it clear that the play has just begun. It's not really time for questions, so he keeps quiet. When the other summoned beings leave to the Sphere of Flesh again, it also travel there.

You pass through the portal and appear on astral plane of the Earth.
For a moment entire field of view was blocked to reappear again. It seems that you have landed on the middle of the busy street line and time after time cars are passing through your auras leaving you with parts of unfinished thoughts as drivers auras pass through your own...
You gaze over the street and see multitudes of metahumans auras flowing through the streets, driving the cars and buses, multitude of watchers passing by and occasional spirits and dual beeings.
You flew a little higher to avoid conastant interruptions to see the building shown to you by Kobal. You immediatelly see it before you - it is slightly glowing in astral indicating heavenly presence taking hold there.
assension rolls please
-
Procel appeared before Kobal. His horns winding in spirals and little fires burning in his eyes. "My prince, excuse the delay. I got.." he hesitated "..trapped. I've been possessing a vehicle, when it crashed into awakened bushes that entangled me. I had to fight my way out. It was a very uncomfortable and most humiliating experience, i can assure."
After hearing the task Kobal had for them, Procel tried to memorize the spirits images. "Shedim and Habbalah, they will kneel before you soon enough." He laughed and stepped through the portal.
Assensing: Intuition 5 + Assensing 4 + Perceptive 2 (11d6.hits(5)=4) no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3585038/)

The place has a background count of 1 aspected toward christian domain.
There is no visible external defences in the form of mana barriers - the place is probably to huge to be covered with them fully.
The picture attached is a night version (I like it best), but it is late afternoon
-
Alex just nods at Kobal, and then plunges into the material Sphere of Flesh again.
4 (Intuition) + 4 (Assensing) + 2 (Perceptive) = 10 dice = 2 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3585778/)

As you move to the street to dive among the stream of people.
You notice that the flow of people ebb at some point toward the street and a single aura of a metahuman is sitting by the wall of the building.
There are multiple focis and fetishes dangling over him, making him look more like a christmas tree. The aura is definitely strong one and the metahuman is dual natured. He has immediatelly spotted you and you can easily see him getting agitated with fiery emotions flaring all over his aura.
-
Procel was worried when he noticed that person. Were we expected? A trap? He flew up and backwards a few meters so that the person limited to his dual-natured-ness couldn't reach him and prepared spell defense on Alex and himself. Then procel tried to read that persons aura to find out more about him.
Aura Reading: 5 Intuition + 4 Assensing + 2 Specialization + 2 Perceptive (13d6.hits(5)=4), no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3590025/)

Alex watched as the dual-natured creature's aura swirled with it's change of emotions... Sometimes metahumans are a lot too intense, they couldn't even control themselves. A strong aura, but not a subtle one... great.
Alex perceived he was spotted, so there was no sense in hiding anymore; he also knew the creature could see into the astral, so probably he would perceive magic use.
Well, he already spotted them, so why bother?
Alex cast Area Thought Recognition on himself, and then proceed to observe the area where the dual-natured metahuman is. He is specifically searching for the word "Relic" or the image of the "necklace" to pop on the mind of any guy on the area he can perceive. He is casting at Force 5, so the range of the sense will be 25 meters.
5 (Magic) + 5 (Spellcasting) = 10 dice pool = 5 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3592714/)
Target may resist with a Willpower + Counterspelling test.
Drain value: 5/2 + 2 = 4 Stun Damage
Resisting Drain:
4 (Willpower) + 5 (Charisma) = 9 dice = 3 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3592717/)
1 Stun Drain Damage remains.

sorry for a small delay... I guess I'll put that in my signature.

The subject is a healthy troll. He is angry, agitated full of fiery passion.
Obviously he is Awakened and you clasify him as a representative of a shamanic hierarchy. Unless he masks really well, he is not a higher being and belong to the Plane of Flesh.
He has strong aura, without Essence holes, that metahumans often have that result from plaicing withing their bodies pieces of dead machinery. You may recognize this aura if you ever see him again,
He has an Essence of 6 and his magical strength is weaker than yours.
You detect an astral signature on him, and immediately recognize it as a spirit link.
Alex cast Area Thought Recognition on himself, and then proceed to observe the area where the dual-natured metahuman is. He is specifically searching for the word "Relic" or the image of the "necklace" to pop on the mind of any guy on the area he can perceive. There is one or two mortals around thinking about necklaces, but as you delve deeper into the thoughts, this are diamond necklaces, cross necklaces, simple necklaces and generaly some kind of ordinary jewerly. There is noone close thinking about relics.
You catch also thoughts picturing the metahuman you are seeing which is a filthy looking troll bearing a transparent made of paper and a wooden stick claiming - THE DAY OF PURGE IS COMEING. The troll has been preaching ... the earth will no longer face the streets of evil, the magic has returned to wipe out the wrongdoers and .... Demons, demons are here. Apage! Apage deamonas!
Willpower(4) + Counterspelling(3) -> 7d6.hits(5)=3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600072/) not good enough
He is invoking his beast lord mentor to propel himself to the astral plane and free himself of the boundaries of the flesh. He is also receiving a mental confirmation from his spirit that it is responding to the threat on will follow to the task he was given.
A ghostly image of the Wolf appear around the body of the trollish shaman and as he fade away you see his aura in much more vivid energy flows. To his side a spirit appears as savage as the shaman himself and shoot himself against Alex.
both of you roll initiative.
you spend your complex actions on perception and spellcasting.
Shaman used his to astrally project himself.
Spirit used his simple action to appear in the astral space between you and him and his second simple to charge against Alex (the attack itself will come on next turn).

Alex is still on the Astral Plane, so his initiative is Intuition x 2:
4 (Intuition) + 4 (Intuition) = 8 dice = 2 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600104/)
Initiative = 10; Alex will be going after the enemy spirit...

Are we already in the background count or is it only around the hall as we are still on the street? Need to know for casting the spell.
Excited by the sudden aggression Procels eyes started glowing. "You call us demons?" he shouted. "Damn right you are!" Procel grasped for power and cast a mighty stunbolt against the shaman. No time to waste on the rubbish, we are on a mission!

F7 Stunbolt against the shaman. 6 Magic + 5 Spellcasting Resist Drain 2P: 5 Willpower + 5 Intuition (11d6.hits(5)=1, 10d6.hits(5)=2), no glitches, no drain (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600151/)
Distracted by the unnatural beauty of the McCaw Hall and the background count nearby, Procel almost fizzled his spell. Damnit, i really have to focus more.
-
Willpower(4) + Counterspelling(3) -> 7d6.hits(5)=1 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600220/) barely but enough, spell resisted
Powerful or not, the energy of the spell dissolves without effect upon hitting the shaman's projected aura.
Wolf reaches Alex and tries to rip him apart or at least rip of his etheral head from the rest of his etheral body.
Willpower(4) + Astral Combat(4) + Charge(2) -> 10d6.hits(5)=3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600320/)
Damage Value = 4P + net hits
EDIT: should be Damage Value = 2P + net hits
-
Alex is surprised by the sudden attack of the Wolf Spirit.
4 (Willpower) = 2 hits, no glitch. (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600347/)
Wolf net hits = 1
DV = 5P
Damage Resistance Test:
4 (Willpower) = 0 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600353/)
So, it's 5P damage... Alex is suffering -1 due to the wounds...
Alex moved out of the way, but the only thing he managed was to put his metaphysical head out of direct danger. His presence was still damaged, and he felt his astral coherence diminishing.
Alex never feels great about being violent, but the spirit attacked him first; without a moment's thought, he replies with a stunbolt.
Casting Stunbolt at Force 9 (overcasting the hell out of it) at the wolf spirit
5 (Magic) + 5 (Spellcasting) - 1 (Wound modifier) = 9 dice = 6 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600357/)
Drain Value = F/2-1 + net hits = 3P + net hits
So, first Alex would need to know how well does the wolf spirit go on his Resistance test. Anyway, if he achieves any net hit, he will keep at least one of them; so Alex will roll to resist 4P drain
4 (Willpower) + 5 (Charisma) = 9 dice = 3 hits, no glitc (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3600362/)
One more Physical damage to Alex, it seems like.

Damage Value at least 10S, possibly 10S and 2P
The spirit of the Wolf freezes and slumps as if the backbone has been taken out of it.
Apage deamone! By the force of Wolf, and Earth, by the force of all that oppose evil be purged and never return.

Nice, with Force alone 3 hits(2 more from edge if you take that). The shaman has to resist my hits x2 drain. Physical since my Force is higher than his magic.
The fury about his failed attack before raged through Procels astral body and gave him the strength to shake away the feeble attempt of banishing him.
He laughed at the shaman. Procel spreads his arms afar to summon the energy needed to finish this shaman off, but the demons of the nine hells refuse him the success he desires.
Stunbolt Force 5: Magic 6 + Spellcasting 5 - Visibility 2; Resist Drain 1S + net hits: Willpower 5 + Intuition 5 (9d6.hits(5)=1, 10d6.hits(5)=3), no glitches (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3604627/)

Banishment resistance: 6 Force; 5 Edge (6d6.hits(5)=3, 5d6.hits(5)=2), no glitches (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3604599/)
read it again and again, and came to conlculsion, that indead you resist with Force alone, and banishing net hits reduce your unspent edge.
so his banishment attempt was unsuccesful and he has to resists drain of 6P
Drain resistance 8d6.hits(5)=1 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3605590/)
5P scored, -1 wound modifier
As the shaman aura flared with a righterous anger and an image of Wolf has circled him he opened a rift behind Procel and tried to push him back to Hell. But as much as he had put into the blow had returned to him and more... He reeled from the force and his aura flew back several meters visibly diminished.

Willpower(4) + Counterspelling(3) -> 7d6.hits(5)=3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3605592/) - spell resisted
Procel immediately hurled ball of bluish mana against the shaman but even flying back from the previous blow he managed to deflect it and it splattered against the opaque barrier of the physical building wall.
-
"Enough of this foolish thing." Alex outwordly voice echoes on the astral realms, producing echoes on the nearby mana strings, in a really terrifying vision to behold.
Alex spents a complex action to activate his Fear power (Running Wild, pg. 212) towards the shaman.
4 (Willpower) + 5 (Magic) - 2 (Wound Modifiers) = 7 dice = 5 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3605656/)
The Shaman resists with Willpower alone, and the net hits are the number of Combat Turns in which he will just flee to a safe place. And even after that, before facing Alex again, he will have to succeed on a Charisma + Willpower test (threshold is my net hits on the power activation).

There is additional modifier of -2 due to astral visibility scratching you 2 hits and leaving 3.
Shaman gains +2 to his resistance roll from his mentor spirit
Willpower(4) + Mentor Spirit(2) -> 6d6.hits(5)=2 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3605936/) not enough.
actually, there should be also wound modifier in place, scratching one hit form the above.
There is an ancient saying, that Wolf does not fear anything, that Wolf wins every fight but one, and in that one, he dies. Well, sayings are just that, sayings and this shaman fell to the unearthly power of Alex and fled. He'll be running for some time as Alex could say from previous experience.
shaman spends his action to return to his body.
-
"Alex, mighty warrior!", Procels voice trembled, "I am impressed and glad to have you by my side. But next time.." he got sincere and tried hard to keep his cool and not to finish the shaman off, "leave me some!" Procel laughed. "Now lets see where those bastards are hiding."

"Your request has been noted, Procel." Alex voice has once again regained the calm and almost too friendly tone it is usually know for. "Rest assured next time you will be the one doing the damage..."
The fallen angel faces Procel: "Now, what would be the best course of action? I wouldn't really like to jump into another confrontation like that, and the mana fluctuations inside that building does not seem very inviting..."
-
"I have exactly the right spell for that. Maybe i am am able to see them from here, but at least they won't be able to surprise us easily with it." Procel started weaving the mana around him until he seemed satisfied. Where are they?
1. Spellcasting Detect Magic F5 on myself: 6 Magic + 5 Spellcasting + 2 Specialization = 13 DP; 2. Drain Resist 2S: 5 Willpower + 5 Intuition = 10DP (13d6.hits(5)=3, 10d6.hits(5)=3), no glitches, no drain (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3607043/) Range is Force x Magic = 30 meter radius around me. Since its an active detection spell, anyone in range can resist with willpower(+counterspelling). Net hits determine the result as on the detection result table next to it. 30 meter is not very much considering it being a big hall, but it might give some edge as we don't have to look in every single room personally.
-
Not that much magic is in the direct vicinity after the troll shaman fled the scene, occasional fetish in the stream of metahumans and every minute or so a watcher passing by on some errant.
-
Not noticing anything of interest in the near vicinity, Procel let go of the spell. "Nothing nearby." he told Alex. "Now its time to find the real culprits." He concentrated on Shedim (the Corruptor) Ashamael, channeled the mana and let the magic do its work.
1. Spellcasting Detect Individual F5 on myself: 6 Magic + 5 Spellcasting + 2 Specialization = 13 DP; 2. Drain Resist 3S: 5 Willpower + 5 Intuition = 10 DP (11d6.hits(5)=3, 10d6.hits(5)=4), no glitches no drain (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3607126/)
I wrote 13 dice, but only rolled 11 for the spell. with the two missing its 4 hits on the detect individual spell.
2 missing dice of detect individual spell (2d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3607127/)
Detect Individual is an extended version. Range: Force x Magic x 10 = 300 meters.
-
While Alex watches the streams of mana Procel is manipulating to find the other demons, the fallen angel order the astral energies to fix his own astral integrity.
Casting Astral Heal at Force 5
5 (Magic) + 5 (Spellcasting) - 2 (Wound modifiers) = 8 dice = 2 hits, no glitch (but almost) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3607169/)
Drain would be Damage Value - 3; as the total damage Alex could heal was 3, no Drain.
The Forces which binds the spirit presence together strenghten again; not as much as Alex would want, but still...

Range: Force x Magic x 10 = 300 meters.
rolls behind the curtain...
background count modifier -1, it is also reducing the force of the spell by one, which also reduces the range by 60 meters
visibility modifier 0
You feel your sense is diminished by the background count of the building ahead, at least the ambient metahuman stream isn't that bad within the building as on the street here but still you're unable to detect Ashamael within the range of the spell.
-
"It seems Ashamael is not in range. But better trust not too much on this, you never know, how good his defenses are. Time to go in there then." Procel slowly floated towards the main entrance of the McCaw Hall and into the background count. He shivered all over as his force diminished, looking for a porter or guard to possess and to hide his astral presence.
-
Alex floats back to the ground, where he promptly manifested. Not as his usual self, though: by the time being, he is appearing identical to the Troll Shaman whom moments before they were facing.
"Not a good disguise, but hell, at least he won't call any more attention than he has already called. When I see a guard or anything, then I can choose a proper seeming."
-
@Procel:
As you enter the building you feel the mana streams opposing your presence, it's slightly impeding your movement, clouds your vision. This is the teritory of the Enemy.
I am using the aura reads you get from autobuy hits.
If I am not mistaken you have Intution(5) + Assension(4) + Specialization(2) + Perceptive(2) - Background count(1) -> 12 DP -> 3 hits on autobuy.
If there is anyone, or anything you want to assense in particular make a roll.
With your guard high on, you take a look at the spacious lobby, there is about dozen of metahumans here. Tranquil environment or no, few of them are having holes in the essence, that you learnt to recognize as dead pieces of electronics and chrome that they put into their bodies. They are strategicaly placed at the entrance (four of them at the main gate) and four more at the turnstiles that block entry to the building proper. At the center you see a circular desk with two metahumans. Behind the turnstiles you see two short corridors. The right one is much wider then the left one. Metas around usually go to the circular desk at the center and then move through the turnstiles into the left corridor.
Closer inspection of the guarding team tells you that, this are energized, healthy and happy people. None of them are Awakened. They do have various degree of cyber implants, they have lower essence then you do and there are no astral signatures on them.
A look at the other visitors qualify them roughly into two groups, one that passes the turnstiles and one that stop at the circular desk, chat for a while and go out of the building.
@Alex:
As you materialize as a smelly troll people initially scatter in fear and surprise, but as the unstoppable flow moved those that were witnessing your appearance those that were following them just ebb around you like they did to the original shaman previously. Immediatelly you start feeling itching on the skin and increasing irritation.
until further notice, you got -2 modifier to all tests
-
What in Nine Circles? is all Alex can think of. That surely is not his day, not at all.
Seeing that Procel went straight to the interior of the building, Alex decides to go too. Maybe there he can change to a more confortable disguise. On the way, he shouts some doom prophecies, babbling some nonsense as the shaman he is impersonating was doing before.
"Repent, wrong-doers, for hungry eyes circle among us, preying on the souls of the wicked! The Awakening was but the start of the Renewal! The hosts, both Angelic and Daemonic, are already taking notes and betting on our destinies. Repent and abandon the crooked path while there's still time."
-
As you approach the Hall, a parking boy run toward you, turning fearfully to his supervisor on the steps to the main gate.
Please sir, this is no place for you, move away ... he tries feebly to block your way and steer you back to the main street.
-
"Are you trying to bar the true message to be proclaimed? Are you trying to deafen the ears on this house" - the troll points to the Hall - "to the warning? Young boy, don't you know that, when your time comes, you'll be judged by and accounted for your actions, and then 'I was following orders' will be no excuse? Do you want to incur in the righfull heavenly wrath?"
Well, this disguise sure is a poor one, but no one said it couldn't be a fun one.
If at least the damn itching stopped...
-
Uhm, this is the Operahouse, and you're not properly dressed, please move away ... please the boy is getting desperate.
-
"Such small things should not hinder the true truth, little boy! Still, I will not cause you trouble. The message may come recorded in all kinds of media, after all".
With a snap of fingers, it seems to mundane eyes that the troll has just cast a Fashion and a Health Glow spell on itself, and even though it's the same ugly guy as before, now his clothes are pristine clean and more than well adequated to the place. Gosh, Alex didn't even hold himself to choose just a suit, he went for gala!
"Would you listen to reason now?"
-
Procel, while feeling uncomfortable in there, thoroughly observed the activities in the lobby to get a better understanding about the kind of jobs the people have and who would be the likeliest to be allowed to go into the interior. While observing the people and waiting for Alex though, he got nervous and had a look back at where he might be.
Procel smirked on seeing the scene Alex created outside. As soon as he noticed that the man on the stairs seems to be the supervisor for the parking boy, he decided to possess him.
Opposed Test pitting its Force x 2 against the vessel’s Intuition + Willpower Test:Possession with reduced Force of 5 = 10 DP (10d6.hits(5)=6), no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3611302/) <- nice roll :-)
Taking the buyable assensing hits to describe the surroundings, until one decides to have a closer look at something, is a very good approach, i think.
Edit: just noticed, i forgot the -2 sustaining modifier. so it would be only 5 hits, unless you decided that outside would be also outside of the background count, in which case my force would be 1 higher for this test and i would get 2 dice back.
-
possession takes place within the background count area
Willpower(3) + Intuition(4) -> 7d6.hits(5)=4 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3611620/) good but not enough
vessel physical stats:

After Procel possessed the man, he immediately addressed the boy. "Let go of this gentleman and focus on more important things. That customer over there seems to need assistance." and he pointed to some guy further away. "I will take care of this - personally." Procel approached Alex with a wide smile. On the way down the stairs, he masked himself to appear as a simple mundane that the man was.
Aura Masking: Intuition 5 + Magic 5 + Edge 5 - Sustaining 2 = 13DP (13d6.hits(5)=5), no glitch, (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3611901/)
"Mr. Knickerbocker," he addressed Alex now, with a loud voice, "i am so sorry not to have recognized you immediately. You're quite humorous - as expected of course... Let me lead you inside."
-
Parking boy scurried away immediately.
As you walk inside you discretely check your vessel belongings. He is wearing armor clothing. He has identity RFID card under a name of Paul Pendleton, entrance supervisor of the Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. He is also have a commlink (Novatech Airware, with Mangadyne deva as an OS, with an AR Glove and binoculars able to display AR notifications), with a hall brand imprinted both on software and hardware (it is autolocked currently, with eye movement pattern to unlock). He also carrying a light pistol (Colt America L36, loaded but without any spare ammunition)
With physical eyes, the world look slightly more fleshed out.
The desk at the center is marked as "Information" the ladies inside receive calls and issue RFID cards for ticket owners, guests or VIPs. The corridors end with elevators. (two to the left and four to the right. The left corridor is marked "Offices and backstage areas", the right corridor is marked "Stage". You also notice that on one of the walls is another elevator marked "Cargo". You don't need to go through turnstiles to enter it, but there is a guard watching entries there.
Through the binoculars you also see the AR decorations on the walls that the day after tommorow is the premier day of the Fiat Iustitia a Matthew Stockman's post mortem premier performance. Romance, love a'la grande, road to liberty. Featuring emerging star Tania Sherdun as Soprano and Gavin Julianson as First Violinist.
if you follow the link for a slightly broaded description:
Fiat Iustitia is the first and last work of a recently deceased young composer, Matthew Stockman, who was cut down in a traffic accident shortly after his opera was accepted for production. The story concerns the rebellion against a despotic power, led by a young woman (the heroine and lead Soprano part) who is unhappily in love with the son (lead Tenor part) of the despotic villain (a Bass). All is resolved when the villain takes poison and the hero and heroine resolve to lead the country into liberty together.
NanoCritic: The plot is not overly original, but the score and libretto are well done.
OperaInTheDigit: highly recommended - the best thing in operas this summer
There is also an entire wall advertising charity auction for the hospital that needs to be built. The auction will be held on the stairs of the Operahouse on afternoon on the day after tommorow as a part of fundraising week. The auction will be culminated with an opera performance for the guests. Among the expected guests are Seattle Downtown District Mayor Nikola Taul with most of the Downtown District Council members.
Following the link, you can see that her appearance is part of her campaign "Downtown Taking Its Taul" where you can also donate funds for the campaign.
-
Alex, even manifested, can't really concentrate on the information that should be available to Procel. That's the only thing he ever envied about possessors: they could really feel what's it's like to live on the Sphere of Flesh, while manifestators had to mantain their distance to this experience... no matter how much he tried to understand how light reflected on the objects, he would always make crude emotional sensing metaphors about it, and never experience that much...
Mimicking the correct behavior for the place, the now perfectly-clad troll glances at the supervisor: "Long time no see, old friend. So, well, any information on our other guests? Are they at the place yet?"
-
Procel guided Alex to the left corridor, "Here, let me show you the backstage area. I haven't seen our friends yet." Then silently over astral, If they don't show up soon, they might have resisted the spell. It will be tiredsome to search the whole building for them. In the corridor he was looking for any hints as to what could be Pauls office.
To any person who might interrupt them "Ah, excuse my mannors. May i introduce Mr. Knickerbocker, an old friend of mine. He is out of town and going to be part of the fundraiser in two days. I am giving him a quick personal tour already. He is very interested in our Hall."
-
As you enter the left corridor, the elevator takes you to the third floor to the backstage area. On the way you pickup from the information desk an information leaftlet describing the building layout. It's a holographic model, that works without matrix connection, and hence without neccessity of an AR display. Opearhouse tries to comfort those that enjoy the music in it's natural form.
-
Past the initial gate there is no additional security (there are cameras of course, but they are discreet, there is no guards). As you move through the corridors, the spell do not detect presence of any spirits nor artifacts within direct vicinity it does cover backstage, stage and most of the auditorium. As you assensse the ranges, you'd probably would need to visit the offices and restaurant parts to be sure, they resisted the spell.
The rehearsal is in progress with multiple metahumans in the choirs, orchestra, props, dressers. You can single out solists, lead instruments, conductor, lead technicians. The solits are all awakened, most of the others have some kind of chrome. Natural or not to apply for the leading positions or even the best Operahouse in Seattle they need one kind of edge or another. The general emotion background is that of expectation, the day is coming so nervousness is also present and among the hundred or so people the conflicts flare occasionaly over wrong tune, wrong light, wrong turn in the move. again and again some parts are repeated without visible connection between them - the conductor is trying the most difficult part it seems.
As the day is coming to the end, so is the rehearsal soon ending. You stay in backstage corner, hidden from view.
-
As you standing in the pool of darkness, behind the corner of the backstage area you hear a theatrical whispering Ukhm... as calmly as you can you turn to see ... nobody.
Switching quickly to the astral view, you see Kobal in a white t-shirt claiming "Mr. Nobody".
There is a distinct lack of sensation from your magic detection spell
He is holding two boxes in yellow paper roped with a red ribbon drapped into elaborated bow.
I was watching you, you don't look to confident. You're sure you can do this? I thought you might need some help, so I brought you presents. He leave them and disaappear.
-
Alex keeps his spirits up enough to smile when Kobal shows up (in fact, is more like he interprets trying to hold back a laughter). Before going in for the boxes, he mentions to Procel (thought spirit communication): "You know what? When Kobal himself shows up, without a blatant joke spurting out of nowhere, I would be very cautious about the boxes. Guess by 'not looking confident' he meant we should be enjoying the ride a little bit more, and moving our astral arses a lotta bit more."
-
One of the boxes, stirs with boredom...
-
Using his emotion-atuned astral senses, Alex sympathize and feels deeply sorry for the tired box filled with tedium. Then he realizes boxes shouldn't be feeling nothing at all, and asks himself if he is not projecting his feelings over objects.
...
Nope, the box is still pretty much bored.
-
Alex waits a little, being very cautious about the contents in Kobal's boxes. Then he remembers that his current box may be a little bit weird, but he wants the job done, so even if there's something harmful (or, wrose yet... something annoying) in the boxes, it should be debilitating...
The fallen angel approach "Kobal gifts", while talking to Procel: "Well, guess we are in for the ride, anyway." and open it, revealing it's contents.
-
In the flesh world, the box seemed to only contain a small lump of charcoal. On the astral plane, however, the aura of a spirit poured out of to box. Rapidly growing to normal size, its pattern swirling wildly, barely contained anger flaring around him like flames.
"Well, that sure took long enough! I'm a soldier, a warrior! Not some toy Kobal can use for foolish jokes and amusement."
The spirit turned towards the one who released him. "You must be Alex. I've been sent to assist you."
-
As the first box opens, the second explodes with a modifed Knockout spell. The modification included aura distortion turning it into smurfish blue. Luckily, nobody was near as Procel was lost in thoughts and didn't approached toward his box.
The rehearsal ends, people starts to gather their instruments and stuff. What do you do?
-
Alex nods at the sudden appearance of warrior spirit... he almost correct him saying that Kobal can turn everything into instruments for his jokes, but he decides not to mess with the pride of the firey appearance.
"That's great news! Indeed, I'm Alex. Is there any title you'd rather be called?"
-
The spirit seemed to think on an answer for a few seconds. "Hm. There's a witch on this world... She decided to call me Cinder. I suppose it's as appropriate as any other name."
It looked at the lingering astral signature of the knockout spell and shook its head.
"Care to give me an update? Have you found anything thus far?"
-
"Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but I trust Kobal gave you the same briefing as he did for us, about our mission and it's executation parameters. So far, what we accomplished was to be delayed by a messy encounter with a fanatic outside - which seems to have nothing to do with our current endeavor, just a fragile mind with the wrong ideas about demons and the end of the world as he knows it -, and then we came inside to investigate. Procel here has been trying to locate the burglars, but until the present moment, we were not so lucky. Everything else seems quite normal, which means we still don't know a thing."
The fallen angel thinks for a brief moment: "Maybe it's time for us to change our approach. I don't know if Procel has tried digging any information on the data storage apparatus of the man he is 'wearing'... Well, I couldn't detect any thought in him about the things we are looking for, but he is one of the managers here - a low-key one, but maybe we could use his seeming to approach a more knowledgeable source."
With a sudden change of voice tone, Alex questions: "Cinder, can you walk around the Sphere of Flesh in a... discrete presentation? Or do you prefer to remain on the Astral Realm?"
-
"Discrete? As if we should worry the puny beings native to this plane recognize us for who and what we are? I will not hide or deny my true, superior, nature.", Cinder answered, sounding almost insulted.
"Regardless, I much prefer this world's Astral form over its fleshy one. Polluted it may be, it's a lot less... humid.", it spit out the last word as if it were a curse.
-
"Calm down, calm down. Walking around in disguise is not a sign of dimness or shame; fooling the Flesh Beings is one of our parts on the design of things. But do as you please... So far, being on the immaterial side of the veil will not be a problem."
-
Cinder pulled at the mental string that connected his blades to his being. When only one of his magical weapons appeared in his hands, his annoyance caused his aura to slightly darken.
"Are you somehow... tied, to this material appearance? If Kobal said our quarry retreated to this building, why do you waste time walking through hallways and opening doors when we could be traveling a thousand times faster and avoid these pointless material obstacles?"
-
"Not at all." Says Alex. "The thing is that the spirits which stolen Kobal's necklace have descended to this plane for a reason. It's possible that they may have a metahuman interceptor, which is carrying the relic."
-
"Hm, it's a possibility. But if they've done so, you've no way to recognise this metahuman unless he's foolish or suicidal enough to wear a relic which is being hunted down by demons, visibly around his neck. Despite their inherent feeble bodies and short lifespan, many of them do seem very afraid of death."
-
"One thing you may be not perceiving, Cinder, is that this feeble metahuman beings are an impressionable lot. Having that kind of Relic under their visage would make a lasting effect on their psyche. That's something that they would carry on thinking of.
And this psychic imprinting, my friend, is the kind of thing we can search for."
Alex haven't even finished his words, when he cast, once again, his Area Thought Recognition Spell. He sustain it and keeps aware for any passing impression of the word relic, necklace or the image of the thing itself. Afterwards, he will take a walk next to the people which just ended the rehearsal, as if contemplating them.
5 (Magic) + 5 (Spellcasting) - 1 (Wounds) - 1 (Background Count) = 8 dice = 4 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3656545/)
It's modified force (due to the Backgroung Count is 3, so it's range is 3 (Force) x 4 (modified Magic) = 12 meters
Drain 5(4+1)/2+2 = 4 DV (Stun)
Resisting Drain = 4 (Willpower) + 5 (Charisma) = 9 dice = 3 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3656549/)
Alex takes one Stun Damage
-
As you move into the dispersing crowd you are understandably looked upon. Fortunatelly presence of the Procel's vessel calms all the doubts and fears.
For one thing you detect, that even taking the angelic footprint on this building into account, the spell is revealing much less than it should be, which even for less bright spirit would mean that there is a counterspelling in progress, but you can't pinpoint who is responsible for it.
there is a CounterSpelling of 4 in progress
Visibility modifer 1 and average willpower of 4 (it takes some will to practice long hours) gives 2 hits on spell resist, which means that you still scan most of the people around for the thought.
the spells detects individuals, that do think about the necklace or relic, but do not differ from those that resisted and those that do not think...
all that in and ...
You detect an older black man that do think about the necklace. he has grey hair, and moves slowly. He is wearing a bluish coverall, buttoned to the top, and a belt with tools. He has an RFID card carried around his neck, that claims: "John Samuels, Props". As people gather out, he is one of the few that isn't in hurry, and instead gather the chairs and sets them straight, and gather the loosely placed things used by actors during the performance (specifically this is a standard of the liberating army carried by the hero in the battle scene).
make an astral perception roll if you switch perceptions.
-
Alex use a sign to indicate the old man to the other two. He takes it's time to observe him, looking more than just the man seeming, but piercing his soul.
4 (Intuition) + 4 (Assensing) + 2 (Perceptive) - 1 (Wound modifier) = 9 dice = 3 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3656658/)
Ouch, forgot about the visibility modifier... Well, even dropping last dice, result are still the same.
-
There is +3 for observe in details, and -1 for visibility, I'll roll the two missing dices for you.2d6.hits(5)=1 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3656675/) additional 1 hit, total 4
You see that beneath the pleasant smile, John Samuels, is eaten by lustful thoughts, you can see him eyeing the female members of the cast - specialy the young sopranist and by the same token he is throwing a vengeful casts upon an older men who accompanies her.
other info:
John Samuels is mundane, you'll recognize his aura in the future.
There are no spell signatures present on his aura.
He has no cyber- or bioware implants that you can see
He is under effect of alcohol (albeit small amounts)
He has Essence of 6
-
A wide grin appear on the "troll" face as Alex felt the urge to sin tugging the man soul.
Ah, metahumanity, you are trully a blessing to behold! The vice, the pleasure you feel when given up to your own weakness and decrepitude; and still you feel guilty! The smell of lust, the taste of wrath, the touch of envy... There's just one thing which can feel better than observe and savor these small moments, when the fleshy ones are being so alive.
Intensifying them. Pulling them further.
Alex was already hooked, and with a predator face, he turns to Cinder and Procel. "Well, it's a work for Kobal, I should as well enjoy it and have some fun."
Then the well-clad troll strolls towards his targets. "Good evening, sir. May I have a word with you?"
-
"You've strange ideas about enjoyment.", Cinder commented while looking for something easy to possess and outside of sight and reach for most people.
Assensing (Astral Signatures) (7d6.hits(5)=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3657652/)
2 hits astral perception, 4 hits for astral signatures.
-
Then the well-clad troll strolls towards his targets. "Good evening, sir. May I have a word with you?"
Yes? there is a shadow of doubt in his voice.
quite honestly I don't know who do you mean by targets, but the reply should be valid regardless
-
quite honestly I don't know who do you mean by targets, but the reply should be valid regardless
Being completely honest, I believe I'm playing so many games (and English is not my native language) that I started to mistake the terms I'm using in one for the ones I'm using in others. My intent was to mean the "old black man".
The troll voice is quite strong, but he keeps it low and polite. Even then, it clearly shows that he speaks from a point of authority to a servant. "Pardon my intromission..." - he takes a little while, as if reading his ID RFID Card - "Mr. Samuels... Would you mind if I call you John? I'm Steven Knickerbocker, stealth art critic and headhunter, but you may call me Steve."
-
Yes? How can I help you ... Steve.
The older black man can't help but must look upward at the giant troll body.
-
"John, you know what is the most important ingredient on an Opera? There are a lot of important things on it: technique, aesthetics, vocal control, good writing... All of these helps on it's building. But they alone can't really do them. There's one thing, and one thing alone that build up the show, and that thing is passion."
The troll sighs.
"I've been watching the rehearsal, and I've seem that these guys have all the former elements I've said before. But they lack that special and fundamental one which is truly important. It would be a pity to see all that effort bearing no fruits, but hope made my eyes perceptive, and I saw your visage, John. I saw how you looked at that couple, and I can read your fiery passion: you, John, can save this spectacle."
-
Uhm.... I am affraid I don't understand... Steve. John seems to be really uncomfortable now, and takes a step backward.
From the height of the stage ceiling, Cinder observes as the violinist and singer enter one of the rooms. By the way he notices, a light technician operating the spotlight. it seems that the mechanism used to remotely move it has glitched, and he had to climb upward, almost 15 meters to repair it manually.
-
Gravity, another one of the many forces these pitiful creatures have to suffer.
Evolution is a strange thing, having allowed creatures so unfit to deal with the hazards of their own environment, to make it to the top of the food chain.
Cinder let its essence flow into one of the searchlights above, picking one that wouldn't be likely to be spotted, hidden from sight by the blinding light it and the lights next to it shone into the eyes of anyone looking in its direction.
The spirit didn't need to exercise much effort, it took only a small fraction of its power to affect this world's probability. It didn't know much about the way humans behaved, but a person plummeting towards death would probably cause disturbance to its mission.
Luck and coincidence, it finished its thoughts. That's how humans got to where they are. Another time or other circumstances, probability could've taken this man's life, with out without the help of beings such as myself.
[OOC: Possession roll (accidentally rolled twice but no matter, both rolls are the same: Possession (10d6.hits(5)=4, 10d6.hits(5)=4)
Using the Guard power on Cinder, Alex and on the poor guy high above so he doesn't fall. (Guard is something I want to sustain on Cinder & Alex pretty much all the time... guess I didn't mention that before.)
If you want an infiltration roll or something to see how good Cinder's at coming up with a hiding place, lemme know. (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3662560/)]
-
The troll face becomes even more amiable, and almost as if joking he says: "John, don't you worry. Look, what I'm saying is that people will come to see a firelight, but these guys, despite their best effort, can't provide more than some matchsticks. But you can help to light that fire, and make it into starlight! In fact, it has nothing to do with the play itself, the actor just need to be more alive. Have you seem that couple? It's almost bureaucratic the way they look and talk at each other! Have you seem the cello player? He uses his instrument as an instrument, not as an extension of his soul! And I trust you can awaken their souls back, John. You are a part of this. Won't you help this opera to have the grandiosity it deserves?"
-
sorry for small delay :)
The treshold 2 - is a simple low tech equipment, so the possession is succesful
the searchlights become indestructible (immunity to normal weapon, equal to hardened armor of 5).
the search light, gains blinding feature if anyone looks at it, much stronger than usual dimmed light. and the lamp flared briefly.
noone seemed to notice though... maybe the light technician ... but he gave a shrug and worked further on the lamp at hand. as if tempting Cider further at one point he slipped slightly and had to grasp himself ... dangerous work.... he would fell straight in the centre of the orchestra pit.... he would splatter himself most certainly.
Meanwhile the amiable troll webs words around old nigger's head. I don't mean to be blunt Steve, but I got a work to do. I don't really know you and you talk strange. for a troll anyway.pardon the old nigga. You want to see the opera, come again in two days, I'm sure it will make your soul burn with joy.
-
"As you wish, John. But you could have helped yourself on helping the opera in more ways than with your work. You could've get the girl, you really could."
-
"So, had your fun now? What was that all about anyway, we've got a relic to find. I fail to see how encouraging an old man's obsession over a young woman is going to be of help. Try to focus.", Cinder grumbled.
-
"Whatever" - the fallen spirit answers the fire spirit, with a tint of disappointment coloring his voice - "but you are right; we got a timeframe, so we should do this the fast way."
Then Alex focus on digging deep into the old man's mind, tracing a route through his reminiscences towards the relic imagetic content.
Casting at Force 5 (Drain value = 6*/2 + 2 = 5 Physical Damage
5 (Magic) + 5 (Spellcasting) - 1 (Stun modifier) - 1 (Background Count) = 8 dice = 2 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3685763/)
So, can only read surface thoughts... what he has already done... Damn, that was an useless use of a spell.
Drain resist = 4 (Willpower) + 5 (Charisma) = 9 dice = 6 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3685765/)
At least, no drain taken.
-
Cinder saw the astral light up as the spell was cast. "Wouldn't the fast way be just asking him? Maybe with a little bit of persuasion?", the spirit asked.
-
"Okay..." The well-clad troll gives up. "John, look at me." As soon as the guy looks back at the troll, he changes his appearance in order to show the old man the image of the relic. "I know you've seen this necklace, and I want to know where and what do you know about it. Trust me that it would be a really good idea not to lie or to hide anything from me."
-
The black men was still thinking on what you told him about the girl, when you brought in another sentence and his face brightened from undertandment ... Oh I see, pardon slow wit old nigga, I wasn't expecting you so soon....I knew it .... I knew it's special.... come, let me show it to you.
He quickly grabbed his stuff (the banner and a hero crown), and moves to the side of the stage area toward the offices part. He waits for you to follow before going further.
Small problem is that the doors here were put in before the awakening, and they aren't really fit for trolls.
as you close in, safely outside of anyone's hearing range, he enters first and while waiting for you to squize yourself somehow through the doors he whispers ... I'll take this girl as a prize ... you notice he drools a bit on the thought

All the while paying close attention to the old man aura, Alex astrally whisper back to Cinder: "Seems you were right."
Alex follows the guy, and when the obstacle appears in front of him, he just somehow appear to become a smaller troll than he is while passing through the door, and then regained size once on the other side. Benefits of having a maleable form, even when manifest, thinks the spirit.

Cinder - make Assensing + Intuition (1) test, apply -5 modifier to the roll.

Uhm. Zero dice. :p Unless it's Active +3 and/or for Astral Signatures +2, case I'll roll 5, cut all you want. [3,6,6,5,6] = (4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3692351/)
!!! Such a nice roll, all for nothing!
