Title: [IC] Sun and Shade Campaign
Post by: SeriousOne338 on <03-15-12/1206:59>
{OK in order to keep order, pun in tended, please keep rolls using:Invisible Castle roller (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/) and add them to your post in a spoiler, also I will be opening OOC discussion if you need more details or just want to joke around.}

The setting is going to start in Seattle 2072, there has been a marked upswing in some hostilities between UCAS boarder and the Salish over the islands in pugetsound. A call has gone out to UCAS army reserves and the Salish forces have been gather forces as well. Corporate interests in Seattle have been toned down due to the rising hostiles. The now reasonably unemployed runners have begun the usual when there’s not a lot of work drinking, gambling and avoiding the pressgangs from the UCAS army offering free SIN’s for service if hostilities start.
So in short your runners are out of work and hiding from the pressgangs. Drinking in a little known tavern in the Everett Slums know as the Happy Fat Man. Swilling an ale that’s gone a little flat at the bar, watching the vid traffic on an old screen all that’s on is the news. The bar is manned by an old bartender, a fat elf known as Porter. Being a regular here Porter grunts and nudges your mug flicking his eyes at a back table shaded from view by old patched curtain. “Work” it’s a simple word but porters known for saying little.

It’s been week’s sense your last run, money is low as you slide into the curtain off booth. The old warn leather seat creaks a bit beneath your weight across from you sits a bulky troll dressed in a business suit and wearing sunglasses. On table is a vid screen not some holo-display but an old beat-up old screen when you sit down the troll reaches forward and pushes a button on vid screen. The screen flashes on with an image plagued with static making it difficult to see much detail on the face in the screen, it appears to be human, but man or woman is hard it’s hard to tell.

“So you’re the one that Porter says works the hard side of the shadows. I have a job for you if you’re interested? You may call me Alexis.  The job is a small one up to the Islands in search of an old document. I’ve received a bit of intel that tells me this document is in an old sealed vault on Whidbey Island. I am assembling a team to retrieve it. Pays 3,000¥ a head, with an advance of 1,000¥” Says a slightly feminine voice with a hint of Germanic accent.

Feel Free to negotiate for better pay, ask questions. A lot of the details will be supplied in a file that he sends you once you commit to the run.

Micky washed his hands thoroughly to get rid of the blood. Five bullets into the upper torso and the guy still walked into Seth' clinic as if he was shopping for a new car.
"Cyber my ass", he thought, "and the idiot Seth only took 500 from the guy. Nice way to ruin your business."
He put on his body armor, still slightly gruntled about Seth,  Jeans, T-Shirt, bullet-proof vest and his old comfy leather jacket should work for getting a drink at the Happy Fat Man. The heavy pistol under his arm pit completing his outfit for the night.

"At least Porter understands that you need money to pay your rent.", he thought as he entered the bar five minutes before the meet. He greeted Porter who pointed to the booth in the back of the bar where a troll in suit and tie was already waiting.
"Hi there", Micky greets the troll. "Name's Micky."

The Troll in question just gives you a flat stare like he'd had nothing better to do "the boss wants to see you" he says, his voice a low rumble.

Alan slides into a seat next to Mickey, nodding to him slightly. He grimaces slightly as his hands brush an unidentifiable sticky spot on the table, but otherwise stays silent during the presentation.

Still unused to dives like this place but learning rather quickly the loyalty that staff and fellow patrons sometimes afford each other in places like this, Sidhe looks up as the barkeep mentions the word 'work' and gives a slight nod of thanks. After waiting a couple of minutes, she rises and makes her way toward the troll--making sure to dust off and straighten her genuine leather jacket before she gets there, trying to make a good impression. Once there, she pulls up a chair from a nearby table and gives a nod to the troll and the other individuals sitting at the table, waiting to be acknowledged before taking a seat.

Yuri walks into the bar, one of the eastern European brands of cigarette notorious for feeling like steel wool going down hanging out of his mouth and filling the surrounding air with the lovely scent of burnt dry leaves. He nods back at porter, taking the glass of rough clear liquor offered, and went to sit beside his compatriots, nodding at Alan but sitting across from him. He listens to the little spiel, paying the hulking muscle no mind - Trolls made a good impression, but 'Ware and bullets made all men equal - and said not a word until she was finished, before asking a question in his low, gravelly voice and mild Russian accent, which renewed the gentle haze of smoke around their table.
"Forgive me Alexis, but only a fool commits to a price before he knows what he is selling, da? Who owns the facility, is transport arranged, will you be recouping losses, all are such things as need to be considered before I can accept. Three thousand, it is a nice pay out for a night at the Casino, but I only get shot at once or twice for that."

At the moment I'll only negotiate for myself, but if any of you would like to use mine for your benefit, I'd be happy to apply my tests to Assist. I'll wait to see her replies before setting out a price for myself. I would highly recommend using vehicle costs and specialized gear expenses as leverage.

The figure on the screen flicks a hand and looks to what you think is another screen, a moment later it turns back and answered
"The Facility according to my information is a derelict site, it was a Fort at one time a military base but that was in the 1940's. The only opposition that I can foresee is crossing the boarder and NAN local forces."
the figure stops again reviews the other screen again. You see the head bob and lips move, before turning back.
'It is as I understand you have vehicles of your own that will get you to the site, but if you need me to arrange transport I could make available a speed boat for the mission"

Roll a perception+Intuition Test, or Politics (NAN or UCAS)+Intuition, this is an open test for anyone.

You have an idea that the boarder crossing right now, due to the rising hostilies is going to be harder than usual. Also you have an idea you'll need more info on the fort.

The figure on the screen reviews more information. The speaks again, the German accent gone all together.
"If the price in not to your liking, make me an offer."

Upon Hanks entrance, the figure's face changes as if to frown.
"In the future I do not like tardiness Mr. Hank, try to avoid it in the future"

@BigGuns: You only have an idea that this mission is going to be harder than it sounds.

Hank woke up to the sound of his commlink. Damnit, he thought, why can't this thing beep louder? Quickly, he toggled the link. "Yes? Oh, hey, Cherry."

"Hank, you look horrid." Cherry grinned impishly at him.

"And you're as charming as ever, Cherry. What's up?"

"Well, are you still looking for work? I've heard of a job that you could probably help out on, if you hurry..."

"Cherry, you know me. What's the job? And what do you mean, hurry?"

Cherry smiled. "I don't know much. But word is there's some stuff needs... remodeling. And by hurry, I mean you need to get your sleepy ass down to Porter's five minutes ago. I've been trying to comm you for half an hour!"

"Damn. I swear I need to get this link checked. Hopefully the pay's good--I haven't had a good run in a while. Thanks, sweetheart." Hank switched off the commlink quickly, but not before seeing the shock that flickered across the girl's face. Tweaking Cherry was always good for a chuckle.

Heading for the door, Hank slipped the Ingram's sling over his shoulder, and then pulled on a light jacket. No sense in walking around unarmed. Ten minutes later, he entered the bar. Porter glanced up at him. "Cherry said you had work." Porter nodded, then stuck his thumb out towards a table at the back. Hank thanked him, grabbed a beer, and slipped behind the curtain and into a seat. Hopefully he'd be able to pick up what he'd missed.

Edit: Fixed what Hank grabbed from the bar. Bears are fun and all, but I don't think they appreciate being grabbed.

Never a good answer to something like that, Hank thought. Best to go with the old standby. "Sir, yes sir."

Looking to the newcomers, then back to the screen, Sidhe says, "Border crossings between two nations are always a pain in the hoop, and any place that's been derelict for over a century is a very dangerous place to be what with lack of maintenance and such. More dangerous equals more expensive, so I think that seven thousand per head with an addition twenty-five hundred up front for expenses is more like it."

Spent Edge for better shot at this Negotiation roll.

Yuri takes the last, long drag of his smoke and puts it out in the bottle cut in half and left as an ashtray. "Tensions have been rising, the NAN will not be easy to pass. We have the means, I have contacts, this can be done, but you will know of course that this is not cheap. " He draws out another smoke, the pack revealing itself to be Russian. "I will do it for five, with two up front to cover greasing the right palms and ensuring no trouble. You could go elsewhere, but then you will put money up front and never see a return. A man in my business cannot have that kind of reputation, and you will know what you pay for."

I could forward you 2,000¥ per person to start with but then I expect results within the end of the week” that would give you 4 days “if you fail to meet this deadline I will only pay another 1,000¥” the figure on the monitor reaches into it’s coat and pulls out a cigar. Cutting off one end, and lighting the other this Johnson takes a pull of his cigar.

Silent hum of the traffic on the street got broken by vehicle parking really close to the entrance. A few strange sounds follow, and when the doors open, you can see doberaman drone leading the way for a man in the wheeled chair. Dwarf, Oil stained brown urban jumpsuit decorated by gang insignias, both his legs relaxed on the Transys steed, he looks around the tavern, and as he notices Yuri, he pings him with the PAN message:
Sorry for being late, pigs are crazy this days. Chulos sent me, in case you need some ground backup.

Loudly, he adresses the barman:
Old man, una tequilla por favor. And the bowl of battery acid for my dog here...

With the shotglass in his hand, sitting next to bar, he waits if Yuri responses, not interferring into the meeting unless invited.

Transys engines silently wokes up and move wheeled chair to the gathering place, where Yuri just began his negotiations. Not that it was no concern for Ramirez, well he was supposed to be here as a support for a gang business partner and so it was not his main interrest in this job. On the other side, if he handles this good, points for him as the gang can see him more usefull, even thought crippled after that...accident.

He adresses the same person Yuri does with his apollogy:
Sorry for my delay, Señora. I had to find wheelchair acessible entrance...

Yuri regards the cigar-smoking man evenly, his own smoke unlit in his right hand. "I have one good reason for better money, and I think you will find this good. I am a smuggler by trade, and this run, it is the sort of thing we do. You might hire runners for a job like this, and they may pull it off. What you really need, by my reckoning, is not to get the document, it is to get the document back here with nobody knowing. This is what I do. You don't pay extra for a good runner, you pay extra for the people I know, for the vehicles I bring with me, and for the manpower I can use to make sure this goes well." He flicks a silver lighter open with an audible, grating, flick, and lights his cigarette. "You ask for special people, and two of those you hire are my men already. This is my business, and you want me to do it."

The figure drums its left hands fingers against the desk in the vid screen, and considers for another moment. "I can not offer much more in the way of monetary value for this mission I do have other obligations. I could make some other assets available to you, and at your disposal. I have a SpecOps operator in the area on another assignment, he might have information that would make the boarder crossing easier. Also I have been informed of an off the books Lone Star asset seizure  locker at the docks I could make the location known to you, of course if you were caught by the new knight Errant security while raiding the locker I can't be held responsible. This is the best I can do at this time."

Not the best for a Johnson: 10d6.hits(5) → [2,2,2,1,5,3,4,5,1,6] = (3), but I can add a little to help out with the mission's bottom line.

Yuri smiles, and raises his glass of cheap, soy-based vodka, and dips his head. "Spa-see-ba, accepted. I have much to take care of if it is to be done in four days. Have your man contact Ramirez." Setting his empty glass down, he stands and (assuming one is offered) takes his credstick. leaving, he sends a quick message to Ramirez and Alan "I will arrange a distraction, find out what you can about the locker."

Sensing that negotiations were over and that the meeting was breaking up, Hank looked at the vid screen. "Sir, I may have missed the intro, but I'm assuming that you want my talents for the job. Having finished negotiations the Johnson uploads the information file, here is the overview:

The file you get from the Johnson lays out the location of the vault in question, it’s located in beneath an old WW2 fort, Fort Casey. The access to the vault is limited to a tunnel from the generator building located to the south of the main Fort complex, though it appears that there are other entrances. The file title the Johnson is after is: “Project Sanctuary” See map below:
Target location:
Fort Casey Overview map:

The document is a paper file, probably stored in a climate controlled vault meant to store documents. It appears that this is going to a tunnel crawl searching for the vault. There is other information on the Fort the fact it is retired and probably not powered, also no net connection. There is also a side note on a possible NAN military activity near by.

I'll add a broad description of your raid on the asset seziure locker when you guys finish making your rolls

Post by: SeriousOne338 on <03-23-12/1612:53>
Asset Lockup Raid, this is a scene so here is what happened:

The asset lockup was on the docks, literally, close to the shore but on Pier 29 in Everett. You make a quick recon of the area, and it appears that this was once a high security area, but with Lone Stars removal from policing it’s fallen to ruins. Several gang tags can be seen on walls, a few homeless orks, dwarves and a couple humans have started to squat in two of the old warehouses. But the asset lockup has held its ground, a strong metal door now rusting has been welded shut. The windows have thick bars over them and are barred from the inside. A quick look on the wireless shows no communications coming from the building.
Hank smiles to himself, and reaches into his backpack getting out a stick of TNT. Setting a detonator for 120 seconds judging that one stick would blow the door off the building, waiting for the signal to go before setup the device. “Hey give me 60 seconds to run across to the door, and I’ll blow it off its hinges.”
After a short period of contemplating explosives and blowing the door, a Knight Errant security helicopter flies low overhead. “Looks like the po-po having some Halloweener trouble. Might not be the best idea to attract too much attention” Ramirez says.
Yuri sighs and points at dock edge “let’s take a look from below, cut up from the bottom or blow a small, and I mean small hole.” Looking at Hank pointedly.
After 20 minutes near the dock Ramirez is bored, he’d been sitting in the van on the lookout for the nasty types that would bother a vehicle in this part of town at this time of night. A small bang sounds from his left and across the tac-net you can hear Hank laughing, Yuri swearing in Russian, and Sidhe groan.
     “What the hell?” Ramirez asks.
“Hank just blew a hole in the floor boards to get us in, guess he used a bit much,” Mickey responds in a dry voice.
Five minutes later the team throws several duffle bags over the barrier on the docks edge next to the van, they land with a meaty thump. Before the rest jump the barrier and get into the van, Alan’s the last person to get in covering the back with a pistol. Down the street a few local gangers start moving in your direction.
Alan gets into the van and slides the door shut. “Gun it Ramirez we go some Halloweeners coming this way”
Another half an hour later in a small ware house where Yuri holds some business deals you look over the goods. The score was ok, not the greatest, seems the ‘bad’ cops had raided it ahead of you before being replaced.

The Score: (Prices are NIB, not what you’ll get on the street)
x3 Ares Crusaders (2100¥)
x2 Defiance T-250 (1050¥)
x2 Frag. Grenades(70¥)
x500 Ex-Explosive rounds, Light Pistol(5000¥)
x2 K-10 doses (1800¥)
x1 Kilo of Push (600¥)

As he counts cartridges, and hefts the impressive bulk of drugs, Yuri smiles, and draws a silver hip flask from inside his coat, taking a long draught and passing the cheap synthahol around as he checks the weaponry, lingering on one of the T-250s. "Da, Good haul, these rounds are hard to come by in the NAN since the border got tightened. Miltech hardware is always worth good money with tensions between the Corps and the Natives. Get this to Alan, drop me off around next corner, I have to make arrangements for our flight." He slid out the door, knowing the goods were in good hands with Ramirez and Alan, he hopped onto his bike and rode out into the barrens. He made a stop at a bar, having a cigarette and discussing with Dmitri the run he was planning, letting his men line up a shipment handguns to bring across and leaving again. Walking up to a metal door a few blocks down, with a homeless Troll sitting outside begging for change, Yuri spat out a few words in Russian, and the Troll let him in.
Speaking to a tall Elf with a clean mohawk and a studded vest, Yuri gave a brief run down. "I am hear with tensions up, your men need arms over the border, north into the NAN. I have a transport arranged, I can get a crate of your rifles over the border. Interested?"

So essentially he's getting the ball rolling on a crate of Ares Predators to bring over the border, since Ares wouldn't be selling nearly as many and they'd be going in short supply. Whoever is kicking cash in, pony up, ideally we can raise 5 grand and pick up around 20. Total, I'd be looking at buying them Stolen, and likely with market Flooded since one of the major trading routes is cut off in terms of weaponry.

Ramirez pulls back aerial drones, that had been watching perimeter, and sets doberman back to power-saving mode, since no iminent danger seems to be present. About the cargo he was only slightly interrested, because that was Yuri`s piece of cake. Meanwhile he contacted rest of his gang, knowing that this sector is a bit out of common territory, well one never knows what info streets are able to tell. Ramirez supposed Yuri has his own ways in and out, well every alternative counts as and advantage.
So he did as he was supposed to, and after he dropped off Yuri, he sent a message to Alan:
Ola cabron, pussy-wagon here. Got a presents for you. Send me time/GPS of randez-vous.

The Elf sighs, "We need rifles, not pistols." He pauses to take a drag on  a hand rolled cigarette, the smoke smelling of something other than tobacco." Those new Ares Predators are nice but we're arming up for war not some old western shoot out. Now a crate of AK's or some of those Federal Colts would make a great addition. Add a couple thousand rounds of ammo and my contacts would be interested."

{@Thovr AKA Hanks trip to the store}

Hank now not on the run with the team has a couple hours of free time. Checking over his stock of bang sticks, “damn it I ganna need more, stupid run spending one of my beauties.” Placing the TNT stick back into the storage compartment, then sliding an picture of the skyline over it. Hanks gets ready to head out taking up his street gear he heads out into the downtown Everett streets, making his way for Cherry’s shop.
The minute Hank walks into the door he freezes, two Knight Errant officers at standing at the counter, the superior is yelling at Cherry. “I don’t care what your papers say this stuff is not licensed. I should arrest you for this at the least.”
“Officer can’t we come to an understanding?” Cherry says as she slides a cred-stick across the counter to the officer. As she does so a AR message scrolls across Hanks view:Meet me in back in ten minutes while I get rid of these jerk offs.Ten minutes later Hank meets Cherry behind her shop in the alley.
”So Hank what can I do for you today?” She asks, leaning against the door’s jam.
”I need two kilos of Grade-A bang sticks, also some detonators” Hank says as he fishes out his cred stick to cover the cost.
”No can do on the TNT, I can run you a kilo those bastard Knights took most of my recent shipment in exchange for not going to the clink today,” two minutes later Hank has his bag of TNT and his detonators. And head’s back to his house.

Yuri nods, takes a datachip with the information of who to contact in the NAN, and leaves, heading to the garage. Once there, he spreads out a map, in the old milspec grid style, and examines it while the others assemble. "We know the tension has made patrols more common, and rougher. We need to be ready for heavy opposition. What do we have Alan, Ramirez?"

Hank grunted. "It's a damn NAN outpost now; they've got a comm relay up on the wall, and word is they've got SAMs now. We try to come in from that side in Al's bird, we're likely to end up swimming. But I say we need to take that relay out--opening the vault's going to attract attention, and if those war-painted bastards can invite more friends to the party, we're going to have a tough time getting out."

Hm...for crossing borders, Ill try to ask my gang if we have connection. And aybe we can use some local gang colours as disguise. Well for infiltrating island fortress there is not much I can tell. i can send in flyspies once we are in reach and subsequently suport you with doberman, he got some firepower that can be usefull. Well...the first proble is to get into right sector. lets solve this and move there, find a safe spot, do the recon, plan the infiltration and process to the second step...entering the base itself. If I get my hands on some chemiclas, I can work out some charges so we are able to create distraction.
You know, one thing still gives me this uncomfortable feeling...the document we are after seems to be classified as some kind of Experiment record. Im not educated in this was too much wel...how often you store experiments records OUTSIDE the laboratory or research facility? I have bad feeling that this base is much more than we expect it to be. That is why I suggest recon first, planning afterwards...

"I could go in and do some astral recon, if we are somewhat close to the site.", Micky proposed. "But I do not like travelling through astral space all the way from Seattle to the site - too many chances to get lost - that doesn't sound like fun to me."

Yuri nods at the various input, and drags his finger over the thick snake of blue connecting Seattle with the target. "We're in a bird, so this is our best approach. With the signature masking, we shouldn't face any opposition from SAMs or scrambled patrols. The main issue is a safe staging area." His finger moves north of the target, to a red star. "They have an air base here, we don't want to tempt fate by bringing them into it, so I say we land in Greenbank. We arrange some of my men to prepare a safehouse for the chopper and goods."7=u89o0l;p'[

"Recon isn't such a bad idea, but we should have a plan beforehand that we can tweak depending on the result of the recon mission. My thoughts run more toward a single night of actually hitting the facility. We send in a couple of scouts to slip inside quietly and make their way to their comms relay to take it out in some way, whether it be destruction or shut-down and hold. It will be likely that the controls for their surface-to-air missiles will be in the same general area as communications, so if we gain control of one we should have both under our control. It isn't a guarantee, however, as they may have split the two control areas because of just such thinking. Assuming we can take out or gain control of those systems then the others who would be hiding just out of line-of-sight can come in and make for the vault without too much issue, as the forces would be to preoccupied with trying to regain control."

Yuri waves it off with a slight nod and a puff of smoke. "We must get to here" He points to Greenfield, leaving a small mark. "Get there, unload our cargo and make the sale. With the cash in hand, we move on to the facility. Alan can provide air support once we are in, as well as guarding Ramirez. If things go south, and it is not just some abandoned building, we have transport and heavy firepower ready to assist."

OK. Once I got throught the carwash, I got almost inconspicuous van, so I may be able to get quite close to the facility without raising unwanted attention. Once there, I release flyspy drones and provide close recon, , and I`ll keep them on site for further use and to give other set of insider eyes for infiltration team. I`ll also deploy dog that will provide cover on escape route, and wait for you with the car, just in case air transport is difficult or there is a need to split the team.

Looking to Yuri, Sidhe gives a nod and says, "After you all make your drop and sale, and we're en route to the facility, our transport pilot could drop me off near that relay station and as you guys penetrate the main facility, I--and anyone else you feel you can spare can sneak into the relay and gain control of it so that we have control of what their forces do and do not hear. We stand the best chance of success doing such a two-pronged attack."

So who is who for this mission. Im remote support and drone surveillance, and since Im not exactly "going in", I dont need the guard...at least I will take the risk. Alan is air support, so there is not too much to talk about in his case. Who is "going in"? In what configuration?
