Version 2.6 of the Shadowrun files for Hero Lab are now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab.
This update adds two new packages for purchase:
Pdf bundle #1 contains Digital Grimoire, This Old Drone, Way of the Adept, Milspec Tech, and in a future update, will get Parazoology added as a free update.
Pdf bundle #2 contains Gun Heaven, Unfriendly Skies, Deadly Waves, and in future updates, will get Safehouses and one other pdf (still to be determined), as free updates.
Each bundle is available for $9.99, and you can purchase them through the License menu within Hero Lab...Purchase Data Package.
This update also fixes a few bugs.

My baby's only worth a free update? :'(

Would you prefer a sharp stick in the eye?

Would you prefer a sharp stick in the eye?
Already got a sharp pain in the elbow, with a cast to go around it, thank you.
-
Ohh, fun. Hopefully you earned that one is a more dramatic way than the one I sported last year.
-
Still no Runners Companion though :(
-
I am wondering if War and Attitude will be a Two Book Package, or will be separate? Not alot of Character related rules
between the two...

From the newsletter:
In other news, we’ve now turned our attention to “Runner’s Companion”, which we’ll release in two installments as mentioned previously. We’ll release the first installment, which will support everything except the alternate character creation rules and character concepts, in April.
Each of the data packages for Shadowrun can be purchased separately for $9.99. We think you’ll really like the Basic Suite bundle, which currently includes “Arsenal”, “Augmentation”, and “Street Magic”, and will also include “Runner’s Companion” and “Unwired” once they're released. You can purchase the Basic Suite bundle of those five add-ons for $34.99 and save 30%! For users who purchase the Basic Suite bundle prior to the completion of all five supplement packages, the additional packages will be added to your license as a free update when they become available. If you purchase the Basic Suite bundle or “Runner’s Companion” as a stand-alone add-on, you’ll receive a free update with the alternate character creation rules and character concepts when we release them; we currently expect to release this update in May.
Our current expectation for completing the last book in the Basic Suite bundle, “Unwired”, is the beginning of May. However, if you purchase this bundle before we release “Unwired”, we’re going to get some of the material from this book to you sooner. We’ll provide purchasers of the Basic Suite bundle with access to the new qualities contained in “Unwired” in mid-April, hopefully taking away some of the sting of tax season.
Next 4-6 weeks should bring a number of solid updates. :)

Unfortunately for me, my current character is a Pixie and my soonest-to-be-played future character is Karmagen. Program is looking awesome, but the April update is missing the two things I need. :(
-
Indeed. Most of my characters use things from Unwired and Attitude, as well as the newer supplements. But the program is looking good.

Items are easy. Just use the editor to code in the specific things you need. Heck, I could probably make the Pixie if I felt like it. The big downer for me is Karmagen being missing. We're switching to the Homebrew game after we finish Season 2, and there's only 2-3 weeks left.

I hear ya...but, the updates do seem to be progressing and they've been pretty close w/ recent dates. I am quite curious to see what is in the pipeline next...lots of material to choose from.

I love hero lab, but when will they add the modifiers for damage and conditions in the dashboard? Sure the plusses and minuses appear at the top, but just reduce the dice pools all ready!
-
Have you posted this over on the LW forums?

It's listed as a known bug with Shadowrun. They're working on it. No idea what priority it has though. I know they're working hard on the Companion and Unwired ATM.

Wow... So, how much would this thing cost, just to get Hero Lab up and running, with the free pick being Shadowrun... And all of their bundle things? This is looking like about $100 when everything is said and done. For one program that helps make characters. I can do this all with paper and pencil for free. Seriously, after spending this much on the books, dropping $100 more just seems... A lot.

Chummer is free, it has items from all the current supplements, and it keeps track of your points for you. It isn't at all helpful if you don't already know what you want to do, though. Since it's unlicensed, all Chummer has in it are the names of things, bare-bones stats, and a book/page reference. It also has several annoying glitches and a single-person development "team" working gratis, meaning those glitches are gonna be around a while.
Hero Lab, by comparison, is licensed, and has real, full-blown tech support from people that work on it as their day-job. That means Hero Lab can give you all the information you need right there, sorted and organized for your convenience, with a more comprehensive (and more accurate) set of auto-calculations than what Chummer uses... not to mention a sexier GUI and, last but not least, a much better set of tools for managing a "living" character once you've finished character creation.
If none of that matters to you and you just want something to auto-calculate your BP / Essence / Nuyen expenditures as you make your build selections, use Chummer. If you want a full-blown character creation and management suite, use Hero Lab. Just remember, you get what you pay for.
-
You know...it could be worse..they could be like WotC and charge you 10 dollars a month to use the
chargen...
Also, considering that they are doing bug fixes to things, incorporating the errata, etc, in the long term, it is not that bad of
a deal. Now, the big advantages come in with it doing all the math for you, allowing you to do lots of changes on the fly without
having to recalculate everything yourself.
Of course, it is a CONVENIENCE thing, not a requirement, so....if you think that is too much to pay for convenience, then
that is how much you value your time. Admittedly, my goal, once Unwired and Runners Companion are in, is to build a character
so complicated that you NEED Hero Lab to be able to keep track of everything you are doing...

So a SURGEd Technoshaman Elf with 8 Charisma and a half-dozen drones around him/her at all times being piloted by Machine Sprites?
-
While all of that is true, I don't know a lot of gamers that are just rolling in the dough. And seriously, most of us didn't even pay that much for the operating system that's running the whole computer, much less a single section of a single program. Yeah, the convenience is nice, and it's pretty, and it has tech-support. But, that all applies to my anti-virus, too. And I got them whole damned anti-virus suite, not just a section. With weekly updates. That kind of pricing just seems like they're milking gamers something fierce.

Actually...I can do that with pen and paper easy...

$20 for the main program, then $9.99 for each data bundle. The Suite bundle is cheaper at $34.99, but the total still comes out to be $75, but that's IF you need everything.
-
You need everything and possible a little ekstra on the side ;D
I have tried their demo version and it is a real cool program but also a bit to priecy for my taste.
Especially because it is not at a first glance easy to incorporate your own houserules and then it becomes worthless.
So I will stick to my old trusty excel.

Hey, there's some weird people out there that DON'T buy everything they publish...
-
If I was just a player in Shadowrun, I'd have very little need for Hero Lab.
As a GM though? AWESOME and saves me tons of time writing up NPCs and also does a pretty darn good job of organizing everything too. Yeah, it's pricey, but so are all the BOOKS that I buy!

Concur. This is a great tool for GMs, but a lot of my player's characters are also in the system. As a GM, I have a bunch of standard grunts and then copy them and tweak them and its easy and done. Or when I build a custom rival shadowrunner team. Nice and easy too. Even better now the extra books are in the system. It really makes creating npcs quick and easy.
But I would also like to highlight the way it prints characters, with explanations on spells etc. I get new players from time to time, and we give them their choice of sample characters from the book... but then give them a Hero Lab printed version which has all their dice pools and explains their gear/spells etc in detail. Very useful when players need to pick up a character and run with it quickly.

Weird? Wrong I tell you. We better throw stones at them - it is after all the proper way to treat people that are different...

True... and blame them for stuff and everything! Because we cant have good things because people dont buy every Shadowrun book including both hard and soft copies and all related software and a really cool tv shirt I saw once and those minatures, both hero clix and Ral Partha metal ones and ... and... Yeah, so there!
Seriously, well worth it if you have the dimes. But far from mandatory purchase if you don't.
