For one reason or another you’ve found yourself on Hawaii namely the Oahu, the port is now a free trade center and boasts a modern amount of naval merchantmen and cargo freighters. The UCAS has small naval base with two light cruisers on the west side of the bay to the east side the CAS has larger base with a carrier and destroyer in dock.
With the offer of work you find yourselves in a small bar, a real god’s honest truth Irish Pub named Breakers. The ceiling is low and the lighting is shoddy, an aroma of cigar and pipe smoke hangs in the air. The tables are lightly packed at this hour of the morning; gentle murmurings come from the tables other patrons obviously wanting privacy. You head to a corner table in darkness, lit by a blue candle, the code sign from the vid message you received. A Large Man sits behind the table, well muscled but because of the low light its hard to make out who or what he is. He has a pipe between his teeth and takes a puff of it now and then, the tobacco smoke obscuring his face.
Those with lowlight/Thermal can tell it’s a troll, a smaller troll thin and whipcord muscled.
-
Minnow slides into a chair at the table.
"Howdy, mate. M'name's Minnow. How's the vittles here?"
She gives him the ol' up & down:
Perception: at table irish pub (9d6.hits(5) =1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3445455/)
Good, get the lousy rolls out of the way.
-
The man smiles his teeth are brown from tobacco use, and takes the old ivory pipe out of his mouth. The pipe probably dates back to swords and musket days, looks like a toy in his massive hand. "Vittles are good here if you like the Irish stuff, me I like the Wiskey better. Order something I'll cover it, I'm not talking business until the others get here. That way I don't need to say things twice."
-
A lanky elf who could easily be mistaken for the base security staff with his short hair and tough looking exterior walks up to the table and then slips into one of the other seats. Crow resists the urge to wrinkle his nose at the pipe - every bootneck ended up trying a pipe for that nautical image at some point, and he'd never liked it. At least they were neater than cigarettes.
"The whiskey sounds good," Crow agrees in a voice with more than a touch of the British west country, having caught the end of the conversation, and openly giving both the Troll and the... woman with webbed fingers a casual inspection. He looks to see whether the table has an AR order function, or whether he's going to have to get up and head to the bar.
"Call me Crow," he adds after a moment with a polite smile.

AR interface is dodgy, and lacks a full listing of the bars supply but the whiskey, with an e the Irish kind is a kept in order. The people around the bar are a mix of merchants and ship captains, this bar seems to be known for a place of business to be taken care of. The man behind the bar is absently rubbing down the bar, and dress like an old world bartender apron and white shirt. There are not many AR interfaces beyond the menu, no vid screens either, it seems the bartender likes the old school way of thinking less electronic and more human interaction.
-
A lanky ork winds his way across the bar. His bright green hawaiin shirt and cargo pants fit right in with the rest of the tourists, but the way he moves and eyes the crowd tell you he's been in the area long enough to know who to avoid and who to mark. As he sits he pulls his micro-braids back into a ponytail and tosses his braided beard over his shoulder. Free meal, starting to like this man already. I'll have the fish soup and poor a couple shots of your cheapest synthbear in there. he hollars at the barkeep before turning his attention back to the table,"You wouldn't believe the Hurlg on this island. Makes that red shit those fancy pants drink seem harsh. Better off just getting some buzz with your meal. Anyone got a light..." He pulls out a pack of old unfiltered Lucky Strikes and lights one. They're so old even the smoke smells stale and wet. "Names Squid by the way...not actually but I'm sure you all understand how that is, so what's this I hear about business." Staring at the man, you're fairly sure he hasn't seen a shower or bath other than a few dips in the ocean for at least a month and you're left wondering, can a person really be this cheap.
Squid is only keeping casually alert

The bartender gives the hobgoblin a flat look, and makes the drinks. A minute later the table has your order on it, your employer gets a large beer stein, frothing over with liquid. "Thanks Jake, put it on my tab"
-
Crow is busy studying the whiskey part of the menu with considered interest when the Hobgoblin sits down. The elf manages not to shudder, but he does have to resist the urge to bum a cigarette off him - simply to mask the godsawful smell. Still, thats what whiskey is for, and he punches in a order for something in the mid-price range that he hadn't tried before. He didn't want to take the piss now. As he waits for the order to come through, he asks the question that had been reverberating in his mind.
"Squid? Is that after your tendrils there?" he gestures at the man's general hair region.
-
Minnow orders some fish & chips -- just about any fish will do, in fact she probably doesn't think to ask or check what type. She just assumes it will be hot, white & flaky inside, crunchy on the outside. Even the Irishmen can get that part right. And she orders a half-yard of pale to wash it down & requests a water with ice to wash that down. She doesn't like drinking on the job, but then you can't have fish & chips without ale, can you?
When Crow's eyes run over her hands, she says, "Ya should'a seen the other guy." with a smile.
-
A short but wide figure walks through the front door, takes a couple of steps and then stops to wiggle his fingers through the air. He grumbles something, those with good hearing might make out some Polish words, those who understand it will realize he's complaining about the bad AR and lazy maintenance. After walking towards the bar and ordering a drink he slowly continues his approach to the corner, a glass of vodka in his cyberhand. The figure looks like a cliché dwarven mechanic stepped right out of a cheap trid; wide beard, wild hair, big goggles on his head, oil stains all over his clothes and hands and the smell of fuel around him. The right side of his face is covered in scar tissue, obviously from a burn wound. The scar runs down his neck and judging from a slight limp in his right leg and his replaced right arm, the entire right side of his body must have suffered from the same injury.
He nods at the people gathered in the corner and speaks with a thick Eastern European accent. "Hi. Name is Wagner. There is talk about job?".
-
An elf with reddish orange hair walks into Breakers, being here a couple of times during his small "vacation" in Hawaii, he looks around seeing the crowd and what looks to be a troll and the people he was suppose to meet. He takes a pit stop to the bar ordering his 2 fingers of whiskey neat and mossies on over to the group wearing some drabby old clothes with a steampunk-ish overcoat worn over and black cuffed boots up to his shins. A well preserved chain can be see around his neck "Hope I was not wait, was tying up some loose ends for the future task at hand." in his Irish accent pouring out as he smiles effortlessly as he sits, taking a sip, looking at the diverse crew around him and nods, "They call me Hellion. Are we short anyone else?"
-
"Well, then, short intro: I'm Minnow, here's Squid with the braids, Wagner over there, and this feller's Crow. The man with the pipe is Johnson, I presume."
-
Everyone asks if it's about the hair, Squid gives a hearty guffaw as he rolls up the sleeve of his shirt, it's for the tattoo. He points at a mess of ink on his shoulder covered by scars from a bullet wound and what seems to have been a blade. It may have been a squid at one point, but it looks like it could just as likely have been a hawk or giant space hamster as faded and damaged as it is. Just beneath it is untouched text that reads UCAS Coast Guard.
-
The troll grunts at the Johnson Comment, the unspoken words of Not Likely, and rolls a shoulder. "Well it looks like all of us are here now. My name is Samuel Teach, and I am not some land lubber Johnson that wants a job done. I am Captain and I need a crew. You have been suggested by people I know for such a position.” He stops to take a draft from his tanker, “I have a ship in mind, she’ll need some work, if you agree we ship out tomorrow. Oh and don’t expect to be coming back here for some time.”
-
Crow takes his nose out of his whiskey for a moment to look at the tattoo, slightly nonplussed as to how someone with a tattoo of a giant space hamster gets called Squid, and what giant space hamsters have to do with the UCAS Coast Guard anyway. The Elf nods to show he's understood, which is a slight lie, and elects against showing off his own tattoos. He's not in a trusting mood today. Nor does he see much point about the Troll dickering over whether he was a Johnson or a Captain - the guy in charge is the guy in charge. Crow's not about to start to arguing with a Troll who wants to give him money though.
"Well, I've got nothing keeping me here," he toyed with his glass "But I'd like to hear a few more details. What will we be doing out there, Captain? And where is there anyway?"
-
Samuel reaches into his vet and pulls out a portable Holo-Vid Unit. And hands around sets of AR glasses, they’re preset to the Holo-Vid’s frequency. With a flick of a switch the display turns on, it’s of an aerial view of the sea a small figure is shown in the middle. Shortly after the display comes to life beneath the figure an info box opens:

“This is our ship she lies about 150 nautical miles south by southeast, she has been dead in the water for 1 month. I have had a drone, one of those Renraku Storm clouds, watching her for three weeks while I assembled a crew. You’re the last ones I need, I already have 3 deck hands, a junior engineer, and a com officer.” He pauses to take another swallow of beer then looks down “damn small tankers” he grumbles before waving his hand at the bartender motioning for another. After getting another beer and the wait staff have departed he starts again. “Her condition is unknown, other than she floats. The goal is to take the ship, repair her and begin a job that I’ve been tasked for. That mission target is a merchantman submarine know as the Kraken, what her owners don’t know is I have a combination tracker and limpet mine attached to her haul. In two weeks she should be in our area of operation. With our new boat we take her and the cargo, scuttle the sub and make for Midway where the buyer will pickup his merchandise”
Ok now is the time to ask about pay, inquire about what else you'd be doing. Those who can't see the pic the link is: http://www.uboat.net/media/allies/warships/br/pg_hms_kittiwake.jpg also I just Googled it so look up: ww2 kingfisher patrol boat first image that comes up on the google.

Minnow is embarrassed, in that particularly British way, for her slip.
"Beg your pard'n, Capn. Din' get much information with the invite. I'm only going to be good for the most basic repairs -- mend a sail if you don't mind crooked stitches, remove barnacles, swab the decks, an the like. However, I'm sure te be more than helpful in takin 'er." Minnow indicates the holovid.
Photo didn't come through. At least not on my screen.

Can't say I've ever worked on anything that old before, but less sophisticated usually means bigger and easier to find your way around in. I lost my tools when my last ship went down, but if you've got the tools I can get her running in no time. Squid gives a rough smile that tells you he's definitely never owned a set of tools in his life, but you seem to think he's truthful about being able to fix the boat.
See what Squid knows about the ship design/class.

Crow thumbed his commlink for a moment as he took the glasses, placing them other his blue eyes and fussily readjusting them even as the image came up. As he studied the link, he started to grin with a look of devil in his eyes. He knew bugger all about the specifics of ships, but he knew a killer when he saw it, a killer of a ship to go do with a killer of a job. The gods praise whoever recommended him for this. With its own cannon no less! Not in the greatest of nick mind, but he might be able to do something about that if it was broke. It was just a gun after all, even if it was a bit bigger that he normally played with. Plus a set of matelots to do the dog's work - the more he thought about it, the more he liked this.
"So then Captain, I've three questions - whose boat is that abandoned, whose submarine will we be robbing, and how much do we get paid for it?" Crow finished his whiskey. "Not that I'm too fussed about the first two points, but I prefer to know whose cornflakes I'll be pissing in before I get my nob out - and who might be coming after me for it."
-
Well I am not sure how it got there but it’s a CAS ship, I had a friend run the registration she should be somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico. Also I've not seen the crew on the ship all the time I've been watching it. As for the target, the SS Kraken is a privately owned corporate submarine she belongs to Fuchi Industrial Electronic, the cargo is some new chips for cyberware. As for the pay crew share is 5,000, the rest will be used to further fix up the boat and buy things like food and fuel.”
-
"Maybe my English not so great. Is almost like fishing boat. With old rusted gun and diesel engine dead for months in salty water? Many many things older than Wagner. And you want attack submarine?", the Eastern European said slowly, with disbelief in his voice. "Maybe submarine is old too, yes? Amerikan Revolution old with wood and pedals?"
He laughs loudly at his own joke and doesn't seem to care or notice if anyone else finds it funny.
"Sorry, is joke. I am sure we can fix pretty lady. What happen to sub after we get merchandize? We deliver it just like cargo?"
-
Lan sips his Whiskey again, taking it in and all it's well done tastes....it's almost par to him in comparison to what he has had back home in Tir na nnog. "Well ain't she a beut." he is always marvelled by ships himself and when he got wind about the job he was even more excited as his horoscope came true, Take what you need and rid the rest, a great adventure will become. "It seems fair enough, that I am in." he goes in blindly without a care in the world as he downs his whiskey. "Da' ships remind me of some of the transport ships I've come across back home, a lot bigger than norm. I've only been on fishing boats so this should be exciting." He smiles as per usual.
-
Minnow chugs the rest of her beer down. She sets the half-pint on the table.
"Scuttle the sub -- that means sink it. We take what we need and cut it loose. And yer English is just fine.
"I'm in. I'll be lookin to find out whatever you know about that sub, and whether they like keepin their nose under water or not. Subs are made to keep under the guns, so the gun on this ship won' help much if they want to duck & run."
Minnow chews on chips, recalling the photo of the ship and trying to imagine why the crew would have taken off.
"Cap'n, is that a photo of the actual ship in question? If not, can we view footage of the real thing once we're settled in?"
Minnow has Hawk Eye, would be looking for things like missing emergency boats, damage to the hull, etc. But if the holo he's showing isn't the boat in question, that's moot.
-
Crow excuses himself, rising from the table to go order another whiskey, and plate of stew to go with it. Nothing turns whiskey sour like an empty belly. He sat down again, musing to himself about the risks. Why hadn't CAS taken their ship back? Sure, it was a long way from their waters to begin with - so what the hell had it been doing there in the first place - and it was a bit old, but why just abandon it? Taking a photo of the gun with his own glasses, so he could look it up later and get a datasoft on it.
Wait, hang on, he hadn't been listening. It should be in Mexico? Well, that explained a few things, but asked a few more questions. Why weren't the crew on there? The thing was, either the captain knew but wasn't going to tell, or he didn't have an idea either. The likely answer was another crew had stolen the boat and abandoned it after crashing it. Which might present a few options but then's what he was along for. Besides, it was not like he had another payday waiting, or too many people to shoot.
"I'm in too, then," the elf said briefly, settling back fully in his chair.
-
"You have satlink with the Stormcloud, yes? You look closer to ship? See if ghost ship crew has abandoned or is dead, maybe? Please, you let me log in to drone, watch for myself and check damage to ship?", Wagner asked the captain.
"I don't need job but boredom is boring, so I am 'in' too. I have friend in CAS navy, had him moved from grey city to blue ocean island, maybe he can find out about ship. But maybe it better not to tell people about ship, if they do not know it is gone,or where it is, we have no... what is word... competition? If we start asking, maybe they start asking and looking too..."
-
Samuel turns his head to minnow, "Yeah that is in real time, I'm sorry the Picture isn't that good, my stormcloud is staying far away so I can keep an eye for other scavangers." The ship looks like a semi-well condition their is only one life raft missing the other three are still tied down.
Crisses Hawkeye only works in person the Drone's camera is not that great of a picture.
To Wagner , "Yeah it's on a sat link but I don't want to take it closer until we are near so we can claim salvage rights first. Also don't tell your CAS man yet, not until we take her and repaint the haul"
-
Figured it would depend on how good the image is, since it was a holo. Worth a try.
"How do we get out there, and when do we set sail?"
-
He Grunts, "set sail, ha. I have a friend that will fly us out the ship via an old Osprey tomorrow. He will make three trips one the Crew and two loads of drones and supplies."
-
Lan just enjoys his time around with people and listening in on conversations taking up info the people are spewing, this would be his first run so to speak and test of his magical talents to go along. He goes to order another 2 fingers of whiskey, neat and some chips. "Very odd dat a submarine would be abandoned. Do you know if there are signs of damage on it hull or were you not able to get it on camera."
-
"Well the -ship-"pauses to make sure he's getting the point across to Lan that its a ship not a submarine "might have some damage the pictures are not great anything could have happened to it from mana storm, sea monster, or other pirates. So I say expect the worse then all surprises are pleasant. I think we send in two swimmers to make sure there is a safe place to land, then as a team we sweep the ship for any hostiles. It should take less than ten minutes if we work fast. Once the ship is secure I can put two watchmen drones on stand by while we take inventory of how the ship is doing. Any other questions?"
-
"The other Target is Cargo Sub DSV-Kraken serial number: KF94156186, its standard cargo sub. I've fitted it with a limpet mine, a sub-water explosive with a remote detonator. I've been tracking it using another stormcloud, and the mines signal. Right now it's stopped off at a location in the pacific, underwater. I think it's a pickup from a underwater factory of some kind. Now let me see here it is" Waving a hand in front of his face the holo image changes to the view of a submarine schismatic.

"Your client, he want cargo, yes? He really want us to, what was word, skuttle? We must skuttle sub or we can try keeping? Is much too nice to send to bottom! We get cargo, deliver and keep sub, all good!"
Wagner was starting to dislike talking like an idiot, but he knew from experience that others judged him to be less intelligent because of it and it was seldom a bad thing to be underestimated. He recorded the plans for the submarine and copied them to his internal commlink. This looked like a very fun toy to play with!
-
“Our Client wants no evidence of the theft so we scuttle her, of course stripping everything we can before doing so. That will take place only after we get the ship up and running.” The Troll folds his hands on the table. ”So any other questions or shale we meet at the air strip?”
I want to move the game forward, anyone object?
-
The look on Wagners face could best be described 'sad puppy look' after he had conceded to this point and was walking out the bar. Sinking a perfectly good ship, a submarine! With the time, place and the right tools he was sure he could transform the ship so none would be the wiser whether it had been sunk or stolen...
He returned to the garage he had rented for his drones, on the way there only stopping in a store to buy a gasmask and some snacks. "Alright ladies, let's make sure you're ready for tomorrow!"
-
Minnow smiles. Oh thank goodness, I'll finally be off the island that never has a cloudy day, and every day is nearly 30C.
"What time should we be there...?"
No objection.
Assuming that she has an answer (to move things along), she'll ta ta, go back to wherever she's staying immediately (with some checks to make sure she's not tailed) if it's a tight schedule, or to the ocean if there's lead time to spare and cool herself off before packing her things, settle her bill if any, etc. With a right and proper extra 10 minutes to get there, she'll take off to the airstrip.
-
With the meeting breaking up everyone goes their separate ways to prep. Your comlinks get a message from Samuel to meet up at an airstrip outside of Honolulu proper, at a given time. That evening you put your local affairs in order, pay bills or pack up your things and sneak out without paying. The next morning finds you at Sandy Points airstrip in the morning sun, the heat already is getting into the 90’s as you hustle into the air-conditioned main building. Their you find a thin elf holding a sign “Real Pirates Tour” from your message last night you know this is your contact.
“Right-o Welcome to Real Pirate Tours, putting the rat back into Pirate. We have a planned departure time in one hour from Hanger 13a, you can stow your gear there. I’ll be by shortly to load up the bird.” The elf pauses for a breath, “Also my names Thomas your pilot and tour guide.”
After introductions you head over to hanger 13a and find an old but well used Osprey. The cargo ramp is down and Samuel ordering around four other people who are loading up gear into the back of the Osprey. ”Good you found us, these are the other crew members, the dwarf in back is Scotty our junior engineer. Those two humans over there are Davis, and Jake are our deck hands. And the Pixy is Swan, she’s our com officer.” He puts his hand over his mouth and says quietly ”watch the small jokes around her, she’s been know for removing parts.” Louder to the others, “Right I’ll fly in with the new guys first and make the approach, once we’re aboard Thomas will bring the rest of you in with the second load of gear.”
It takes a little bit of time but after some work all of your gear, minus large vehicles, is aboard the osprey. Seated in the forward section of the aircraft and the back packed full top to bottom it’s a bit cramped. After the initial take off Thomas hovers over a small section of the bay as the other crew members tie on a zodiac to the haul line. Then they get off the boat and tie down even more gear to it. Then signal for the Osprey to move out.
“Halo1859 heading out south south-east, This is Pirate Tours we are away” Thomas says over the radio to local com tower. Hour and a half later the Freedom comes into view, Samuel instructs Thomas to hover sea and drop the zodiac. Soon you find yourselves on the little rocking boat. The osprey then moves into a higher altitude into a holding pattern.
Samuel looks at the group, he is dressed in an armored dry suit and has Colt M24a3 carbine. “Right who feels like taking point?”
-
Given a chance, Minnow would follow the Cap'n's lead with her armored suit. Goggles, no helmet. Fanny pack with camera, grapnel, microline, rapelling gloves, lockpicks, passkey, spare ammo. Glasses are on her face. Guns in their holsters, not so concealed if she's just in the suit.
"I'm certainly up for a swim. Happy to take point, but those who can't swim ought to stay with the boat and a preserver." She winks with a grin.
-
Crow had suppressed the urge to laugh, but still grinned at Wagner's obvious desire to have his own working sub. Wish he could place that accent though. Oh well. Plenty of time to talk about it on the boat. He'd finished his meal, then said his goodbyes for an evening of oiling his guns and tidying the little billet he'd secured himself - that, and finding himself datasofts of the gun onboard the ship. If he had to fix it, he wanted the best damn schematics possible.
The elf turned up in plenty of time, patiently lounging on two large kit bags in woodland camos as he waited for everyone else to turn up. He snorts when he sees the message - Real Pirates Tour, so much for subtlety - but says little until they're nearing the target. He even resists the urge to make Pixie jokes, although he knows that's not going to last for long. His eyes light up though as they start to get closer, and he opts out of the camos for his armoured diving suit, before selecting the Water Carbine out of an impressively big bag of guns.
"I assumed this was the sort of thing you hired me for," Crow says drily, beaten to the punch by the webbed woman as he took out one of the scoped guns to take a better look at the wreck for signs of life. "It certainly wasn't my charming personality."
-
Early in the morning, Wagner got up, had some breakfast and finished his preparations, classical music blasting through his speaker system. In a very good mood, he hummed along loudly, only pausing for a moment to tell Klaudia how much fun they'd have flying over the ocean alongside an Osprey.
After checking all systems and weapons, he had the flyer pick up Katya the Doberman and asked little Lena, a microcrawler drone, to find a spot inside the Air-Supply Drone's cargo space.
At the airport he did his best to be polite, mumbled something about the cliches of Dwarven engineers with a grin on his face and greeted everyone. Once aboard the plane though, he excused himself and said he preferred to fly for himself. He closed his eyes and jumped in the Ares Air-Supply. A second later a smile appeared on his otherwise absent face, he was enjoying the freedom of flight and sensation of the air rushing by his 'body'.
Wagner grudgingly left the drone to pilot itself while he to get inside the Zodiac "You want, I bring in Klaudia to have closer look from air. She bring Katya and Lena with her and put on ship if all safe, they scout and look for many things!"
Seeing the questioning looks he sighed and pointed up towards the VTOL drone with a Doberman hanging from it, right above their heads. "They good girls!"
-
To Crow: "Beggin pardon, I don't know your talents any more than you really know mine.
"In short, getting on & off ships where I'm not wanted was my job in a past life. I'm also a passable field medic. Hope that helps you size me up better than just starin at my hands. I have some *other* natural talent that helped me get the position." She blinks her inner blue eyelids slowly. "Aside from that, I've spent most of my life either on or in the water."
To Wagner: "I'd sure appreciate if the drones check it out first, with the captain's approval. Sure wouldn't hurt havin' some extra eyes on her."
To group:"From there, if it pleases the cap'n, he should decide whether we're just doing a recon from the water, or whether the goal is actually boarding. If someone's going to attempt a boarding, having one or more in reserve on the water nearby wouldn't hurt either, with the boat farther out."
-
Wagner cocks his said sideways and frowns. For a moment you see the absent stare again from someone who's in VR, then he returns and looks at Minnow. "Oh good, your eyes is just strange! Must be very handy!", he looks relieved, "I almost worried AR interface start glitches again!" He smiles warmly and turns to stare at the ship in the distance, humming a song under his breath.
-
Lan the Hellion nodded and looked foward to see everyone the next day. By morning he had nothing left on Hawaii, left his small shack that was by the seat that was left for abandoned, carrying a backpack with his tools. He calls a taxi to get to the airfield. Once there he entered where the osprey was, nodding to the greeting and everyone else. He tossed his pack with everyone elses, and would hop in the osprey and take off with the team.
He looked down at the boat they were highly hovering over. "I think I can give us a better idea of what's in there." He speaks a few words in elven gaelic......

"If the watcher spirit finds anything that is not of us, it should tell me. But best for you to send out your drones, just in case lad." He looks to Wagner with a grinning nod. "How much does the cargo weigh. I can probably levitate everyone and the cargo over if that is easier for you all."

From this point of view close to the water you can see burn marks on the hull, not any kind of weapons fire you've ever seen. The boat lists to the port slightly so obviously its still sea worthy if it's been afloat for this long.
"Ok, Minnow, Crow you two make the approach from water. Wagner send in your drones but be careful the CAS has been know to set guns on automatic in the event of crew death. Hellion what does the spook say?" Samuel says, then grabs Hellion's arm. "be careful of the magic uses out here it might attract undo attention from things we'd rather not meet."
@Wagner: Your drones close in and detect a working mini gun turret set up on the upper deck, it's armed out with a LMG but the ammo box looks almost empty. The landing pad is a different story there are 3 land mines fixed to it. The burn scorching is more prevalent on the starboard side there is a hull rupture there but I has to be contained or else the ship would have sunk weeks ago.
@Hellion: the spirit submerges into the water and streaks toward the ship, and disappears into the hull. Two minutes later it returns, but you see it looks worse for ware like something had cut it's upper right arm. "There are no people aboard the ship but there is something else small there" it points with one hand to the stern section near the engine room.
While Wagner and Hellion get there drones and spirits into position Minnow and Crow get ready to dive.
my last post of the week I will be back on Sunday night or Monday morning

He nods in agreeance, "Fair enough cap'n." In response to his magic. The watcher comes back to tell him what has happened. "Alright, keep and eye on the boat for now than." He looks over to the captain, "Seems to be something in the stern area." He points around about the same spot his watcher showed him. "I can peek through astrally if you like."
-
"Either someone's been lying to me and you're actually the Johnson," Crow said sarcastically to Minnow "Or I was talking to the captain, and there's no need to get your hair off."
He probably shouldn't have snapped at her, but really, did the girl ever listen? As for not knowing talents, she must think Crow blind. It was blooming obvious why a pirate might want a gilled changeling. As for her, either she was blind as a bat herself, or Crow had really got out of the military state of mind. He doubted he had. Idly he flexed his fingers and cocked his head back and forwards he considered the chance there'd be something to fight over there. Crow purses his lips and lets out an explosive breath at the news there's no one there, but something small instead. Great. Either something very puny, or some horrible awakened critter. He placed the gun back in the bag, carefully, then hunkered down by the edge of the boat ready to dive.
"I say we get on with it before it gets spooked myself," Crow volunteered before turning to the changeling. "I reckon you swim quicker than me, but I suggest you let me take the lead once we're in range of that gun. Up to you of course."
He wasn't that enthusiastic to volunteer to be shot at.
-
Squid shows up with an full sized foot locker strapped across his back like a rucksack. He's changed clothes, and seems to have showered. Seeing the sign he chuckles to himself so loudly people start to stare and follows the elf to the aging Osprey. Tossing his locker in the back, he pops it open and pulls out a water-sealed pouch the size of a duffel bag. He spends most of the ride quiet in the corner, but when the ship comes into view, he lets out a whistle and mutters, Isn't she a beauty.
When the captain asks for volunteers, Squid doesn't say a word, but strips down to the wetsuit he's been wearing under his clothes. He pulls the duffel bag up and straps it to his back. Once Crow and Minnow finish their back and forth he mutters, Time to go. and dives as soon as the ship gets into range.
Diving = 6d6.hits(5)=3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3453824/)
The duffel bag has the Crossbow (broken down), 10 bolts (3 Barbed, 3 SnS, 2 Explosive, and 2 Narcojet), 2 Harpoons (Broken Down), and his medical/engineering gear.
-
To Crow: "Prats first. If you get shot, at least I can remove the bullets."
Squid dives: "Or perhaps someone else is volunteering instead. I plan on keeping under water where bullets can't catch me. I suggest you don't stay on the surface if you like your pretty face. But if you're sunk, I'll catch you before your lungs are full of water, mate. Here's my commlink code guys. It works under water, at least for a while. Wagner, let me know if you spot any fins on the water or anything fishy."
I'll try to swim a few yards below Crow (or the Captain if he is coming). And keep an eye out for Squid. And this far out to sea, with this stranded ship, I wonder what's nearby -- and what's for dinner.

Crow grinned mirthlessly, reflecting that once upon a time he'd have knocked the irritating know-it-all clean out by this point, back before he'd mellowed a little. He follows Squid into the water, heading deep and making a stately progress towards the ship. He really was out of shape, and the elf mentally chided himself for his laziness post-injury. Relying on his other senses, Crow kept his eyes fixed on the ship as he neared it, gun at the ready.
-
"You two get into the water and follow squid in. keep low and make your approach from the other side, that LMG has a limited fire field climb aboard and cut the power cable then I'll being the boat in with Hellion, and Wagner." the sea water is not as cold as the northern seas. The moment minion hits the water all the fish scatter away, it's eerie without fish in the area. it takes two minutes for the group to swim under the boat, the hull is OK shape, but on the opposite side there is a large rip in the hull with heat burns on the side. the climb up the side of the hull is a bit tricky but goes fast. Searching the tower you find the sentry gun it's on a limited axis, a neat cut with some wire clippers and the gun disabled.
One minutes later Samuel pulls the zodiac up to the side side and ties off the boat. pulling the rest of the equipment on to the boat you set up a base camp point at the base of the control tower. "Squid see to those mines on the landing pad. Minnow, see take the camera and take some measurement s of the hole in the hull. Crow, you Wagner, Hellion sweep the lower hull start in the bow and sweep to the stern don't enter the engine room until we can all be there in a group."
With measurement of the hole in the hull on hand Samuel sends out specs for parts. Wagner makes short work of the charges as they are meant for vehicles, and stows them off the landing pad. With help of Minnow, Wagner and Samuel they off load the Osprey's cargo and covers the gear with tarps as the sky begins a light rain.
The search of the ship does not show up much the crew quarters show weapons fire and heat burns, but no bodies. There is an arms locker but it's almost empty a few guns and 15 rounds for the main gun. The main gun seems operational but it will take several hours to make sure it functions. Sensor net is burned out, looks like a localized EMP or something, soon the team meets up outside the engine room, one foot of water has flooded the floor and the bulkhead is sealed.
so everyone get ready for a fight. Also ask questions about what you find in the ship, if you want to.
-
Squid strips out of his wetsuit and slips into his armor before digging through the rest of his gear and pulling out the few odds and ends he calls a toolset. Armed with a couple screwdrivers, some wireclippers, and a roll of duct tape he heads off to take care of the mines. After a dozen minutes he manages to get them taken care of with Wagners help and assists in the search. He seems completely awestruck with the vessel, being this old and battered but still floating says wonders for her, he mutters as they inspect the hull damage. As they near the Engine room, Squid puts on his rappelling gloves and ties off a ten foot section of microwire, one end to his harpoon and the other to a nearby door handle, If something too bad is in there I'll shove this in it. It should buy us some time digging it out, he explains, raising the harpoon. He leaves his crossbow propped against the wall about twenty feet back with a Narcojet injection bolt loaded, And if it's anything normal, that will put it to sleep. Just don't shoot yourself in the foot or you'll sleep for a very long time, he gives a chuckle that says all too well he's seen it happen before. With that, Squid pulls up the harpoon in one hand and his net in the other, waiting for the door to open, And now we see what all the commotion was about, hmm?
-
Hellion has the Watcher spirit play guard for the time being so it's on the top side. He looks around with the crew, "Tis' truely a mavel." he says in response to Squid's comment. Soon the journey takes him to the engine room with the team. "Allow me ta take a peek in side through the plane?" He looks to see if anyone objects. "I don't think there's much alarm for myself."
-
The elf nods in acknowledgement of both statements as he crouches close to the bulkhead. The only change he has made is that he's brought along his assault rifle, held on his back by its sling, as he waits with knife in hand, unwilling to risk a bullet hitting the engine.
-
Samuel nods to Hellion, when hellion enters the astral space the ship goes into odd pale light as if it was ethereal itself, you understand that is because it is a ship on the open ocean with not part of this place of the ocean. The hall next to the engine room is littered with bones of the dead, the impression is that several people have died in the corridor and not all of them resent. As you pass through the bulk head the engine room comes into clear defined lines, up on the left engine sits an object. The thing looks like a mechanical crab and jets of blue lightning play off its shell onto the engine around it. As you watch the lighting leaps up off the engine and into the crab like it is siphoning power from the engine. In labored lobs you hear the energy crackle around the crab, in a moment of insight you back away from it; you can feel the malevolent intent of the thing.
“Well Hellion what do you see?” Samuel urges.
-
Hellion takes a seat on the ground as the water splashes. Takes a couple depp breaths as he slips into the Astral. Looking around and seeing what he sees, which was only a few seconds he goes back to his body, eye open wide instantly and looks around for a moment, getting up. "I....I dont know. It's some sort of mechanical crab giving off blue electricity in the engine room." he looks over to wagner "You scanned the area and not much is shown in your matrix world?"
-
Wagner appeared puzzled. "Is possible much water and metal block signal. Or big crab thing has no wireless active... I never hear of thing like this before, always new drones being built! But if it drinks... drains? Power from engine, maybe we look for way to shut down engine and make it come out? Fight near engine can cause much damage, cost many time and money."
-
"What the nine hells? A mechanical crab? What color was the Shell?" Samuel asks quickly.
I'll fain shock and surprise like a giddy bastard GM.
"It was a coppery bronze or gold, and the lightning was coming from the engine and into it." Hellion responds.
Samuel lets out a swear phrase in Gaelic, something about sheep and a skin rash. "I don't know about cutting the power but we can try that, I suggest we go onto the landing pad above and place something with a big battery there. It should draw it out, when it gets to the surface we hit it, and used EX rounds keep shooting until it goes down. Double Tap is really important on this thing."
Those that want to can roll mythology test (threshold of 2)
or nautical-like knowledge (threshold of 3)

Hellion didn't like that the response, knowing somewhat of what he said but pondered for only a moment about the crab.

Hellion nods, "You are probably right cappy, da electricity is being drawn into the crab. I realized now it's not mechanical but probably it's shell is made of what seems to be a gold/copper alloy. thinking this as a engineer and not as a magic man for a moment." He grins. "It's worth a shot trying to draw him out with a bigger power source if that seems to be it's meal." He looks around to the group, "Curious is anyone knows any stories about Atlantis, I feel there's a story that ties into this thing. Damned if I remember those children stories of old back home."
-
Crow looks down at his knife with a wry grin at all the talk of an electrical crab. Thank the Morrigan for astral scouts, or he'd be having a very bad hair day right now. He shrugs at the mention of Atlantis - Crow's knowledge of the sea came down to how to stay alive, and how to kill things on it - but slaps the Mage on the shoulder anyway.
"Good job you spied the bastard," the elf says slowly and drily "It'd have been one hell of a shock to meet it without knowing."
He looks around and then starts to head up to deck.
"I'm going to change into something less conductive. Then I'm going to kill it," he calls back before turning back for a moment with a frown "You know, that sort of skin sounds pretty valuable. Maybe we should try not to wreck it too much? Does it have any weak spots to target?"
Before too long, Crow is dressed in the urban camos he wore to the meet, and holding a HK assault rifle as he weighs up the merits of two seperate magazines, clearly torn as to whether to smear it across the horizon or kill it relatively intact.
-
"Most of me knowledge is hear say. I'm sure it's shell should be worth something.....but let's not get ahead of ourselves." He follows up top with Crow.
"Watcher begown!" forfeiting all services the watcher owes to let it go. "I can always summon a spirit and suffocate the bastard. But In any case we need a better guard, so while we are planning this out."

Minnow stays in her armored wetsuit, and doesn't change, just readies her pistols, puts her glasses back on.
She looks at Hellion with a frown when he mentions Atlantis and childhood tales, then suppresses a laugh when she realizes that he's not millenia-old talking about his lost childhood home. I've seen some pretty messed up things in my years, but thank goodness I don't have to add living, breathing Atlanteans to that list.... yet.
Crab that likes to eat electricity. Now, that doesn't sound friendly. Maybe like that ol' E.T. movie we should leave a trail of watch batteries on the floor for it to nibble. However... "If it put that hole in the hull to get at the engine power, it's goin ta be a bitch. If you put a lure above-deck, it might eat a hole through everything between ta get there."
-
"Better have a hole up than a hole down, no? If things in engine room go boom, hole will be much more problems.", Wagner replies, scratching his beard and looking rather cynical at the mention of children's stories and fantasy lands."I save mines put on landing pad and bring more myself. We set trap, wait for crab and we have good lunch!"
Wagner doesn't really know, or care, about mythological stuff. He knows what Atlantis is from being mentioned in some Sci-Fi trids, but he likes to think he knows the difference between fact and fiction... sometimes.
-
"Maybe a solution without holes at all?" Crow suggests when Wagner proposes mining the top of the ship. He's seen explosives go wrong too often. "How fast do these things move after all? Maybe we can literally just dangle the battery in front of it, then walk backwards quickly and lead it out here."
-
Minnow eyes Crow up and down. Great, Mr. 'Tude, she thinks, if it's faster than you are, maybe it will think your cyberware is a side dish? But why mention that? Let God -- or some freaky crab -- sort 'im out. Guess I'm lucky not to be a good candidate to play lure. So which of these guys is most likely candidate for Most Pumped Jock of the Year? My pounds on Squid: he'll probably run down there before we come to an agreement on it.
Minnow thinks through ships plans, to see if there's any good space below deck to sort this creepything out.

As you talk you hear the engine finally fail the engine grinds to a halt. All of you think of a comment similar to "Awwww Drek". From within the engine room you hear a mechanical howl similar to feedback from a microphone. "Everyone back up get to the DECK NOW!" Samuel yells as he back peddles toward the stairs. The team hauls arse up the stairs and narrow corridors from behind there is the sound of tortured metal as the engine room door is hit repeatably. Not long you find yourself on the ship decking running toward the landing pad. A glance back shows you the crab bursting through the deck hatch.
Right combat now, who's doing what?
Also Combat for this campaign is going to be cinematographic style, it's in the book mean's your hits are at 4,5,6 but only in combat times.

Running towards the deck, Wagner shouted to his drones through his commlink while his cyberarm reached for the large revolver in its holster. "Klaudia, start engine and prepare for take-off! Katya, run to deck and stay clear of monster!"
-
Squid snaps his line with his forearm blade and tries to grab his crossbow as he sprints for the deck. As he's sprinting full speed he tries to switch out the injection bolt muttering, explosive or shock, explosive or shock, explosive or shock, as he clears the stairwell he finally makes a decision and rams the explosive bolt into the crossbow.
Sliding onto the landing pad, he takes aim at the deck hatch, trying to keep his aim from crossing through friendlies. As the crab comes bursting out he lets loose the bolt, relatively undisturbed by the sheer suddenness with which it managed to burst through the hatch.

As the crew breaks out from corridor and out onto the deck, Wagner's air supply lifts off leaving a wide swath of open space. Klaudia will leave, be careful. Squid moving quickly drawls and fires his crossbow, in a stroke of luck it catches the crab mid-leap out of the hatch smashing it into the tower side. A nano second later the crab bounds back up and grabs the bolt sticking out of it's shell right before the arrow's head explodes blowing off its left claw arm and cracking the carapace. Then is orientates on the group, pausing like taking stock. Without a pause Wagners revolver barks two times, hitting it twice round knocking the crab back a bit cracking the carapace even more. From the hole where the claw was a thick orange-gold liquid starts dripping. With all that kind of damage usually it'd knock a person out of the fight and into the ER at best. But the damn thing gets back up and starts to move again, but obviously slowed by the damage done.

In blur of speed the crab scuttles forward its one claw out seeking Wagner's throat but before it can get there Crow lets loose with controls automatic fire. The rounds exploding against the shell and shattering the rear portion of carapace. Right at that moment Minnow predator barks once sending a round through the gap in the crabs armor, dropping it to the deck. This time the crab's shell leaks color and goes from a bright copper-gold to a dull bronze. "By the Gods what the hell was that thing," Samuel says as he approaches his rifle at the ready.
-
Squid steps up to the crab and prods it with his harpoon, looking at the armor and meat of the thing, Tomorrow's Rations, he asks with a tusked grin.
-
Crow doesn't move, but rather continues to cover it just in case.
-
Minnow keeps her aim on the thing. She knows nothing about these creatures, and no one is hurt, so she's going to make sure it stays that way in case it twitches back to life. Seen one too many horror flick.
-
"It looks dead, I think the safest thing would be to throw it overboard." Samuel says.
Remember to note it is made out of expensive materials.
-
Once the firefight against a crab was done, Hellion trots over to the limp crab. "I say we let our orkish buddy become surgeon for a moment because that shell is worth a prety penny, cap'n." Hellion grins and looks at each one for their opinion.
-
Minnow eyes the critter dubiously, "And all due respect, cap'n, it might attract predators and scavenger beasts that think it's yummy...We might not want to rush into throwing bits of it overboard if it will be a shark magnet."
-
"Shell was very strong to take so many bullets. Maybe we find out what it is... or use it as armor for drones.", was Wagners reaction after he regained himself from almost having his head clipped off.
"But we best continue searching ship first. Maybe other dangers, maybe things need fixing quickly. If crab break engine, we need weapons back quickly too, otherwise we, how you say it... sitting goose?"
Wagner ordered Katya to circle through the air and check for other vehicles nearby and sent his microcrawler below deck to check for threats and take imagery of hard to reach places so he could later check them for threats. Himself, he tried to find a way to connect with the ships systems, his doberman on guard next to him.
-
Hellion looks over to his robed elf that materializes by the group and is no longer ghostly as it responds to his look, "Yes?" in elven Gaelic again.
"Guide, guard this ship on the and warn me of any intruders or anything that is malicious towards us is coming our way." he orders the spirit in elven gaelic.
Guidance Spirits roll for being summoned (6d6.hits(5)=4) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3460696/) 4 against my 5 from earlier...so 1 service which is spent guarding us until dusk.
He turns his attention to Wagner, "Well the watcher didin't find anything other than that crab.....but I wouldn't put it pass it if the watcher over looked something."
-
"My take on it is that anything that weird, that none of us has heard of before, is probably worth money to the right university," Crow shrugs as he slings the rifle securely on his back and rises from his position. "And they'll pay more for it intact too. Well. Intact-ish. Your call captain."
His bit said, Crow moves off to inspect the two guns, very aware that while they'd solved the mystery of the crab, it didn't necessarily solve the mystery of the bullet marks. It didn't mean there mightn't be something else waiting to swoop. If they were, he wanted everything in shipshape order to give the bastards the fright of their lives.
-
"Yes, I understand watcher spirits are fast and useful, but not always smart. Differences between machine or machinegun, engine or drone not always big enough for it to know.", Wagner said in defense to his caution.
-
Minnow climbs up on something and scans the horizons and skies, slips on her goggles and checks everything out again.
Perception - hawkeye, coprocessor, no goggles. (12d6.hits(5)=7) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3463661/)
The goggles have lowlight/themo/vis enhance 3. I don't know whether hawkeye stacks with vision enhancement...
When she's done, she reports anything worth noting.
Might be able to tell if the helm has been busted up, Minnow thinks. If any gauges are completely broken, and we need parts for the engine, may as well get other necessary parts at the same time...
Predator still in hand, she goes over to the helm, if it's accessible on the deck of the ship. First she looks in through the helm's windows before trying to enter. If clear, once inside, she checks for any small stowaways in the hidy-holes. Then she'll dust off the gauges and such to check whether there's anything busted up. She'll catalogue parts needed in her commlink.
Minnow has pilot skill 3 (6 pool), hardware 3 (7 pool). She'd know a lot more about what's in that room than I would :) If the door to the helm is locked, she has some skillz for that too.
-
" If the rest of you want to take a poke at it later, we can but right now lock it in a closet and set a drone to watch while we get some work done. Minnow you and Wagner get your swim gear on and start work on that hull breach. Hellion start sweeping the lower decks and take stock of gear, weapons, cargo, all that junk. Crow get working on the main gun see if you can't power it up and get is rotating. Squid get into the engine room and get us some power. If you need me I'll be on the bridge working on the helm." After the group breaks up and starts working on the ship, you hear and feel the Osprey touchdown on the landing pad, there is a moment when the ship lists but nothing more. From the deck clanking sounds come as drones offload cargo, this goes on for twenty minutes before the osprey take off and heads back toward Hawaii for the second load of cargo. This process repeats two more times with the additional crew members coming one the second load. The day ends with most of the ship swept clear of trash and signs of battle the rift in the hull almost sealed and two small drone boats floating in the waves around the ship. For the next week you work on the boat getting it back into ship-shape sealing all the hull breaches, there are two more found after the main gash is sealed. The crew eventually gets the main gun to work but it only works on manual the electronics on it are blown out and will take a ship yard to repair.
OK anyone want to do something else?
You find on the ship,

Between trips to repair the hull, Minnow also checks out the Medical shop, logs the needed supplies, and makes a wish-list of any not-necessary-but-nice that's not included. She also tries to figure out what types of trouble the former crew may have had from what's depleted from stock.
First thing she'll check is whether there's an inventory list posted on a wall or in the medical shop, and compare supplies against it. Doesn't seem like the type of thing one would abandon ship with. Otherwise, she'll wing-it. If there's any autodoc / medkits, she'll check with them for a list as well.
If there isn't any on-board, she'll add an underwater/sealed &/or pressure-proof medkit to the list.
Simple fail: Medicine: former crew's medical difficulties per depleted supplies. (8d6.hits(5)=0) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3471197/)
When she has spare time she'll make sure that everything's in working order, autoclaved, dusted, disinfected, etc. in the shop.
Unable to find any pattern to the usage of medical supplies, Minnow simply forwards her supply list to the Capt'n and continues on with routine duties.

Hellion roams around the ship with a holopad in hand writing down an inventory list of items that are still usable in every shop. He has a seperate column for stuff that is missing that should be there. He'll do some minor clean up inbetween but not much.
Perception - Visual (12d6.hits(5)=1) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3471261/) 1 Hit....doh!
He gets up to the helm and hands his list over to the Captain. "Did a sweep of things that we have available, those that are damaged and functioning and those that are missing that we'd need to replace at some point." He nods and leaves for the deck when he's dismissed. Nighttime comes and his guide leaves. He goes to summon another guide to stay watch.

He closes his eyes and a similar guidance spirit materlizes, "Guide, keep vigil and warn me of any intruders or danger coming to this ship." The spirit nods and goes about walking around the deck.
Hellion goes back down and does some more cleanup in the workshops, maybe find any missing items.

With his orders, Squid heads to the engine room. Searching through the tools, he goes into action mode, flipping on his wired reflexes he begins zooming around the room trying to get the engine running and tighten things up. Once he's gotten power restored, he drags his chest down and starts to set up his hammock in the engine room.
Spending a point of edge on the mechanical roll.

Wagner would like to check/fix the ships communication/radar/sonar, see about the system's protection and check to see if there's rigger modifications to the ship and the minigun. If any of the others need help with anything technical, he'll help too.
-
@crisses: Minnow spends the week working in the water during the day and cleaning up the infirmary. The list of Items she makes to round out what they'll need seems only to be bandages, bandages and more bandages. The medical supplies seems to be in good order, but minnow misses the Painkillers that seem to be missing.
@vinnmun: Hellion spends his time working on cleaning up the ship all the time his spirit keeps watch for intruders. His list is pretty basic mostly some missing gear or a burned out comlink here and there.
@Crash_00: Squid's work goes quickly he gets the engines running in one day, but keeps only one active to charge the batteries because the fuel level is low. Having finished work in the engine room squid finds himself in the water sealing the hull breach. That work is grueling and time consuming, spending three days in wet gear and is scuba gear you're happy when the hull is finally sealed up. The end of your fourth day you fall asleep to the hum of automated bilge pumps draining the sea water.
@Xzylvador: Wagner works hard on the communication/radar/sonar, its a hit and miss repair the wires are burned out. Running wire throughout the ship takes time. After a week the sonar is operational though a bit glitchy, radar is more reliable due to being farther from the water. Communications are limited, instead you take an older model comlink and patch it into the radio antenna slaving it as a communication module.

Hellion and Minnow:
The bar is packed with other crews the noise is louder than expected. Sailors sit around tables talking in many different tongues and playing cards. The general mood of the bar feels ominous the conversations keep turning to ship disappearing. The bartender asks what drinks you’ll have and you find a table out of the way.
-
Minnow flags the bartender (before they get a table), "Hellion, the first drink's on me. Jus don' order the hundred-year scotch." To the bartender: "I'll have a tall pale ale, and somethin for my chum."
On the way to the table, Minnow tries to figure out from the conversations around her whether they're talking about the ship now known as The Coral Pride -- or are other ships disappearing?
-
Hellion nods to Crow, "Aye, let's see what tis here." Hellion and Minnow head right for the bar 1st.
When they reach actual bar inside the establishment he nods to Minnow, "Well tat's mighty wide of yah lass." he looks over to the bartender, "Whiskey 3 fingers neat, lad." He takes a seat with Minnow and notices her trying to listen in on people's convos. He just acts normally and allow her to do her thing as he looks around the place.
Just seeing if anything is EYE catching or interesting. Glasses are on. (11d6.hits(5)=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3477331/)

From the conversations you get the idea that many pirate and corporate ships have been disappearing. The word is that there is a new phantom ship on the seas attacking anything it runs into, leaving no survivors. All the sailors seem edgy, talking in grim voices, the other sailors want to make for other oceans it seems pacific is getting too hot for them.
-
Minnow, hearing what she was lookin' ta hear, turns to Hellion.
"It's my first time in a port like this. Feels claustrophobic. I guess I'm spoilt by wide-open spaces and green rollin' fields right next t'tha water. Heck, ev'n Hawaii's got some o' that goin' for it. Japan, Germany, France... I like where tha land meets tha ocean. How bou'chu, lad? Prefer bein' lost on tha seas or findin' the next port?"
Minnow meanwhile sends a com-message directly addressed to the runner crew &/or captain -- whomever she can address in a private communication -- with the information she's gleaned from the barfolk. "FYI: I ain't asking any questions, but seems the locals think something's going on around here: ships disappearing, entire crews lost. Much talk of leaving for other waters. They think it's a ghost ship."
-
Squid heads to the bar and tries the local Hurlg while attempting a few hands at cards. After losing half his nuyen, he'll grumpily retire to a corner to nurse off the rest of his drink and listen to the local tales of the sea.
-
Hellion looks over to Minnow as she addresses him, looking away form the area, "Myself, I'm a water dweller. Grew up a fishaman son." Takes a sip of his, "I thought I was good enough to struck it out on my own, but that flopped....so here i am." He grins and takes another sip, "I do not mind land, but the sea is right for me."
He reads the AR txt message shown and nods in thought.

On deck of their ship, Wagner put his doberman on watch next to him while he closed his eyes and entered Virtual Reality. He was trying to see if he could get access to the other ships' systems; preferably the pirate vessel.
-
To Minnow, from Samuel:
*Thankyou for the update find out if anyone has seen this ghost ship, maybe some vids or something.*
Squid, you actually gain money from your card games. (15 Nueyen) "Damn your a devil with the cards, I hope old Davey's claws don't get you" The other sailors spit beer onto the deck one or two grab tailsmen necklaces in a feeling of warding off evil.
Wagner the sun shines down on you, as you lean back in an old plastic folding chair. The pirate ship's AR interface is like a castle, with fortress walls you spend some time deciding if you should try and assault it or try to follow the different data streams.
Sorry been sick so I am back, good think I waited now we have Crash_00 back.
Humm so lets see here, Wagner are we talking hacking like a break in or passive and picking up data leakage?

Minnow, to Hellion: "Sometimes methinks I'm an amphibian. Except when there are people around, then it's quieter underwater. Wouldja like to split a fish-n-chips platter? I'll be right back..."
She heads to the bar, requests a platter, and asks the bartender:
"Tellme, mate, is it true what the lads are sayin? Has anyone seen somethin' fishy out on the waters an' lived ta tell 'bout it?"
Etiquette/influence roll of choice:
Bartender: Anyone seen something fishy? (7d6.hits(5)=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3487763/)
She probably says it better than I do ;)
-
Hellion nods, "Why certainly lass." looking around, minding his own business kind of as Minnow goes and does her thing.
-
The bartender a female humanish lady gives minnow a glare like she's going to cut into tips. "Yeah they'll go on about it for hours, some kind of phantom ship that screams like the devil and shoot laser beams, laser beams can you believe it. I guess one of those boats ran into her not long back and escaped by the skin of the teeth. Well what you'a have?" After taking your order she gives minnow a frank look "don't cut into my water girl its my hunting ground."
Backing away from the bar Minnow takes some initiative and approaches the pirate's table, all of them are drinking deeply from beers trying to drown something in ale. Five minutes later Minnow has the story from them "T'was 250 meters long and swam like a carp not some screw driven craft and had a single eye that shot a bolt of Energy from it, sliced right through a merchantman we was hunting. So the captain order's heave two and full speed away so we sailed here."
-
Minnow takes notes on her embedded commlink as they're talking. When they're done, she pushes the file to the cap'n, with a brief header: "Bartender says they go on and on about the ship. Someone ran into it recently, bartender makes it sound high tech, but with what the locals are saying maybe it's magic, not laser? Welcome to the 6th world. It sounds formidable. Here's my notes:"
-
Rather late, Crow heads straight to the bar and orders a large drink before he joins Hellion and Minnow. He nods in greeting as he takes a seat, content simply to drink rather than interrupt their conversation.
-
He nods to Crow's approach, "Ahoy lad. Not missing out on much around here, guess you got word of phantoms and such." Drinking down his whiskey.
-
The rest of the day is spent drinking and exploring the rig's different stores. The mood is grim many of the shops are closed with boarded up doors, the shop still open have extra guards that watch customers carefully. As the sun sets you make your way back to ship, we you approach you see the ship's had some further repairs done, simple things that would need cranes, the radar array has been refitted and the hull has a new coat of paint above the waterline. You find Samuel on the bridge sitting back in his captains chair regarding a Holo map. "Good your back we need to head out soon the tides are shifting that should help us get into position to storm the Sub when it surfaces. Stow away your things, we'll have to sail through some bad weather on our way."
-
Over the next week the boat sails north, and approaches the intercept coordinates. The rest of the crew members begin preparations, manually sighting the main gun. The two deck hands begin shooting drills and live fire exercises on the deck. A few brief encounters below deck made them rethink doing live fire drills in the corridors. With the engine chugging away the ship moves steadily north.
Shake game, lets get this thing moving. I will start the attack on Thursday at the latest so any actions between Atoll and the attack need to be stated now.

Crow spends most of the week getting the ship's armaments and armourer's ship into shipshape order, with not a single thing out of order, and most of the rest of his time exercising. He joins in with the Ratings' weapons drills, particularly after he discovers them conducting live fire exercises in the corridors - not something he's going to let them repeat.
But that's about it. That, and he's looking forwards to the raid with unholy glee...

You awaken to an Alarm the old sound filling the ship like echoing laughter. Over the intercom Samuele's voice fills the air "All hands to battle stations, the sub's a bit early." Running down the halls to your battle station, the clock on the wall reads 6 hours ahead of time. The sea is choppy and winds are up, to the south east a storm front is visible. The wind starts to howl as you reach your battle station. On the bridge Samuel hold tight to the Ship's wheel, "The sea's kicking up a good one, keep an eye on that storm cloud."
Two points north north east, the sea boils and from the depths a cigar shaped vessels makes an emergency surface.

What, early? And he couldn't have woken us BEFORE he detonated the charges?
The gun on the deck was useless to him -not yet fitted to be fired with remote control- so Wagner stayed in bed, closed his eyes and let his mind enter Virtual Reality. Actual reality became little more than a window in the corner of the eyes of the 2-dimensional robot that was his persona. He opened a connection to Klaudia and immediately jumped after the signal. The drone woke up from standby immediately and took off. Wagner felt the wind and rain rushing past his body and turned his gun towards the submarine.

Minnow runs to her station, granola bar jutting from the side of her mouth like a half-burned cigar, pulls her goggles down over her glasses, and starts scoping out the situation on the surfacing sub. Then men appear with assault rifles, so she gets under cover, shoves the rest of the granola bar in her mouth and chews thoughtfully; her weapons don't have anything like that range. And obviously diving while the ship is on intercept would be unwise. Trumped by circumstance, she tries to figure out a position on-deck that leaves her the most options possible: dive into the water to board the ship, or try to take aim when the ship closes in and they're finally in range of the enemies on-board the sub. She also keeps an ear out for trouble, in case any crew needs assistance, attempting to hear people through the storm.

@wagner:
With a roar from the aft Wagner's air supply takes to the air, it's gun turret tracking to the submarine's deck. Through the rain automatic fire comes from above, near where minnow is hiding hot Machine gun spent shells rain down. Steam rising from the deck where the shells casing land. Through the sheeting rain the automatic rounds hammer into the hull and hit one of the gunmen. He stumbles to the deck from the appearances several rounds hit him in the leg and a few in the torso.
@Hellion:
The deck heaves and rolls as the air supply takes to the sky, cutting off your line of sight to the submarine for a few moments. Samuel standing at the helm curses as the ship shakes from the take off "Damn drones she'll push us farther away, and that sub's not crippled as I'd like. She's making to break contact."
@Minnow:
As Minnow dives for cover behind some extra barrels she feels a slight sting in her caff. Blinking in the rain she looks down and see's a grazing hit from the automatic fire. While looking over the wound from the safety of the barrels, spend shell casing rain from the sky sizzling as they hit the deck.
@Crow:
Covered in guns you burst from the stern deck hatch only to duck back down when a gun man takes an interest in you and sends a torrent of fire in Crow's direction. Swearing to your self you select your long range rifle and open the scope covers. Selecting in a fit the automatic setting on the your HK G12A3z, pulling back on the charging handle to rack a round in the chamber. Popping up you sight quickly and let loose with a burst, with a stroke of luck and skill they hammer into center mass dropping the security man in quick order. Transferring to the sight at the last unwounded security you select the burst fire and let loose with a three round burst hammering him in the chest. Thinking the fight done, you pause to look only to notice the last guard is still on his feet the rounds having only done superficial damage to it's torso.
Guard's Turn:
The wound man begins crawling for cover of the deck hatch, leaving a bloody trail. The one still standing turns and sights at crow his rifle a simple Colt M23a barks in single shot mode, that of a practiced shooter, rounds skip and rattle around Crow. Before one hitting him in the chest, (Big Peat: resist 6DV).
Round 2 what you all doing?
-
The combination of mind, soft- and hardware kept the gun from losing its aim as the drone was swept left and right by the wind, its gun moved only slightly to unleash another stream of bullets towards a next target, aimed to kill.

-
Hellion looks over to his Guidance spirit, "Take out those guards on the outside there and than take out the pilot and captain." He puts a hand on it shoulder to encourage and give luck to his spirit as it would dematerialize and head for the sub via astral.
-
Minnow presses a thumb to the nick on her leg and makes some calculations (based on her pilot & navigation skills + math co-processor). Is it even worth boarding the sub underwater, if she were to start out from here? 200 meters....
If it's even feasable, she would ask the captain for permission to attempt to board the sub.
Reasoning:
Last known distance was 200 meters, which is 1.5 minutes swim-time to the vessel. But if the ship is closing on the sub faster than she can swim underwater (~8m/turn or about 160meters / minute or 9.6 kph), it's simply not worth the risk of diving in. this is where her math co-processor takes all the calculations and spits back to her a "You'll die, dumbass." or "You're faster than the boat, go for it." :) With the storm, it's quite possible they're not making headway, and the storm has less to say several meters under water.
If she's faster, she can edge her dive roll, to get clear of the wake/suck of the ship, and buy successes on long-distance swimming (14 dice, i.e. 3 successes per roll) for getting to the hull breach. Then she can comm the situation to the captain for further orders/permission to board....
If you'd rather I roll, no problem. But it's a LOT of rolls -- and swim rate (how many rolls) depends on successes. With bought successes she's 8meters/combat turn, or 25 combat turns to go 200meters (may be less distance by now...since the ship is heading there)....at 3 seconds per combat turn, that's 1.5 minutes. If I'm using my calculator correctly.
If both the ship & the sub are moving, this just simply won't work. If the sub is still, she can possibly get into the hull breach and disable the engine. If that fails, she'd be on-board...if there's a hole in the hull.
Navigation 3 + Int 5 (+2 marine) (+2 math co-processor) = 12 dice.
Navigation Roll: is it worth swimming to the sub? (given heading/speed of ship/sub?) (12d6.hits(5)=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3510822/)
In case: Dive (with Edge) 12 + 3= 15

Crow is already beginning to step and turn as the guard has lifted his weapon, leading to the bullets to merely brush and sting against his splotchy green armour.
"I've got that arsehole," Crow shouts at the Mage and anyone else even as he aims again, possibly too late "Just make certain you stop the bastard fucking thing from going!

@Wagner:
The drone gains some altitude and starts strafing the deck, cutting into the downed man and pitting the submarines hull with more ammunition fire. Then the data feeds from Klaudia start reading Target lock combined with increasing cross wind. Thinking fast Wagner detects the target lock is coming from the submarine, with no gun being available to be seen. Wagner in a bit of insight orders the Air supply to start performing evasive maneuvers.
@minnow:
Minnows comlink clicks to Samuel’s line “Yeah go a…..” then cuts out as a broad band jammer cuts into the simple signal traffic of the comlinks. Minnow peeking up from her hiding place see’s something she never wanted to see. The rear portion of the conning tower on the submarine shifts, metal plates moving back revealing a turret, not mounted with an Anti ship gun but with twin barrels of something high powered.
@Hellion:
The spirit makes a warriors solute and glides away through the bulk head on the bridge ghosting away toward the submarine, you eye tracks it for a moment before sliding under the waves. Without being able to see the spirit work you can’t be sure the submarine does not have spiritual defensives. To your right Samuel curses, as the feed from your comlinks squeal with feed back as the jammer hits. A moment later you hear the loud thumping of a large gun coming from the submarine.
@Crow:
You first burst just bounces off the Goons torso, one round might have done some damage but you’re not sure. The second burst cuts into the man’s head and neck, the rounds that enter the head cause his melon to explode. Exposing leads to several wires, thinking for a moment god damn that’s a full cybered streetsam or a cyberzombie. God I thought those things were just myths. The body still functioning for a moment, seems some of the brains orders will still being followed. Getting ready to sight for a third burst, you watch as the airsupply hammers the deck with a it’s Machinegun.
Goons Turn:
With the three deck gunmen down you think the fight is over right up until the moment from inside the submarine a twin gun turret raises. Those with some knowledge about guns you realize those are modified rapid firing assault cannons. The turret first tracks toward the airsupply letting loose with twin three round bursts at the aircraft before tracking toward Wagner’s deck hatch.
Right Wagner attempt to evade the anti-air shot:
11d6.hits(5)=5 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3513401/)
The gun is a: Ares Vigorous Assault Cannon firing in a wide burst, with AV rounds.
Damage code: 12P/-9AP
Also a jammer is in place so comlinks are glitchy.
-
Minnow grins, pats down to make sure her gear is in place, and makes a run-and-dive over the side of the ship. This is the type of action she's used to. With any luck, their hacker will clear the jamming by the time she gets to the breach in the sub; heck those guys tend to act fast, and there's a lot that can happen in the 100 seconds or so it will take for her to clear the ship and close on the sub.
So, it's over the edge, and she pushes herself down farther into the water, to dive deep enough to clear the wake of the ship. She paces herself on the swim over. Who knows what she'll encounter over there, no need to be too exhausted to do anything useful on the other side. She keeps an eye out for trouble as she goes, all her senses ready for trouble.
Dive roll already listed, swimming with buying hits.
Perception, cinematic: 12d6.hits(4)=5 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3513694/) (or 4 hits without cinematic)
Note she has thermal sensitivity, direction sense...
-
@Wagner:
With a muffled curse and quick thinking your save Klaudia from a water grave. The turret on the sub having let a short burst a moment too late to catch the airsupply as it jinks away attempting to gain more altitude. Klaudia's senor package feeding data of the shots, who ever is in control of the AA gun probably has military training with the speed and efficiency that it got the shots off.
@Minnow:
You hit the water in a perfect dive, the surface is a choppy maelstrom from the wake both vessels are making combining with the winds from the storm front, but that is only a momentary bother as you slide below the surface. Kicking hard in a dolphin kick and using your arms you close in on the submarine. From the vantage point of beneath the wave you can see and feel the hull rupture that the mine caused. Forward of the submarines main screw a hole about 10x10 foot has been ripped away and is leaking air.
-
Crow sighs as he sees the Assault Cannons rise and start to track the Air Supply, having already forgotten about the Street Sam; not because it makes things difficult, but because he's not going to be able to take it intact. He races over to the ship's main gun and sights it on the submarine's weapons before firing quickly.
-
Minnow continues toward the hull breach, pacing herself. When she gets near the air leak, she takes in gulping gillsfull of water and holds her breath when she gets too close. She thinks, "This is like the time the tourboat S.S. Minnow went under....I had to rescue the Howells. I got on board and found them sitting in lounge chairs on deck, thumbing their panic buttons repeatedly. Thurston Howell (the Third) demanded a personal limo service back to the shore, and Lovey Howell refused to drop her cocktail...Thank goodness for sedatives."
It's certainly going to take more than a couple combat turns to be able to get to/get into the hull breach... Let me know when others catch up....
-
Hellion runs up to top deck to get a better view, hoping his spirit is handling itself well.
-
Automatic Assault Cannons?! Wasn't prepared for this kind of fire, how the hell did I not see this coming? No way to get out of its firing line, will have to hope I can destroy it before I run out of luck.
Up in the air, the Drone changed its firing mode and with a loud "Whoomph" launched a grenade towards the cannon, it exploded exactly where he wanted it to.
Simple action take aim to negate distance, simple action fire.
5 System, 5 gunnery, 2 rigging, 2 smartlink, -2 weather (12d6.hits(4)=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3520175/)
Scatter (2d6=7) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3520177/)
Scatter rules confuse me. Rules for airburst in the combat and the accessoiries section seems to contradict too. Anyhow, 5 hits = 10m less scatter so I think this is straight on target. Damage is 10P, AP-2, -2DV/m. If he can spot a place where chunky salsa can do some extra damage, he'll aim for it.

@Crow:
Racing through the corridors beneath the ship to avoid fire from the sub you sprint and run (2 combat turns to get there). When you get to main gun controls you begin to orintate the gun, checking to make sure the shell is still loaded.
@Minnow:
You swim (still catching up)
@Hellion:
You climb to the top of the ships main tower (your turn) from there you can see clearly the whole of the combat beneath. From the sub a muted cry is voiced, to your ears, as your spirit takes out someone inside.
@Wagner:
The airsupply sweeps to a side avoiding the cannons the rounds, tracking it's grenade launcher toward the AA gun, with a Whoomph followed by a Thunk, the grenade hits home. A moment later the round explodes. The AA gun is obscured by smoke from the grenade so you switch to tactical lowlight with a thermal overlay and to your horror the AA gun seems unscathed, then a moment later you see one of the barrels fall to the deck.
Goons:
The Cannon now tracks toward the airsupply a moment later two three round wide bursts are sent toward the Airsupply.
Dodge if you want:
Burst 1:

Burst 2:
8d6.hits(5)=6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3528077/) ... ... .... ??? Sorry
Both shots are DV: 10 -5AP the cannon has reduced damage due to you having destoried one barrel
-
Minnow winces mid-stroke when she hears the muffled THUWUMP underwater from the grenade explosion. Thinking: "Drek, I hope they don't try to blow up the sub with me in it. We have a cargo to fetch! Fraggin' jammer, why hasn't someone cleared communications yet. TSADW*!"
*This Sure Ain't Doc Wagon

The Air supply drone banked left and right, dived and rose, basing its course on the direction on the barrel. Wagner almost failed to make it dodge the incoming fire but was lucky enough that a sudden heavy gust of wind knocked it out of the way of the last shell. 6 anti-vehicle rounds later, the drone had a bit less paint and a few more scratches than before, but was otherwise unharmed. Another grenade popped out of its gun barrel.

Scatter negated as far as I understand: another 10P, AP-2, -2DV/m.

@Crow:
He continues to race for the main gun, sprinting down the hatches and corridors in hopes he gets there before too much damage is done to the ship.
@Wagner:
With a thump the second air bursting grenade detonates destroying the turret and silencing the turret gun. Now it seems that your going to have to board the submarine and send in your doberman.
@Hellion:
You get to the high point just as the submarines turret is destroyed, there is nothing but silence from the submarine now.
@Minnow:
You swim into the submarine's hull breach, and begin climbing thought the wreckage.
@goons:
Well all the ones you can see are dead. SO.......... go.
The Jammer signal breaks and your comlinks com back on seems some kind of spirit might have disabled the enemy hacker.
-
Comms: "Eureka!! The comms are back." Hellion moves to a stable area below deck. "Going Astral to check things out on the ship until we get close." He takes a seat in a stable spot and slips into the astral.
-
Minnow sends a brief message to the captain: "I've arrived. Any orders?"
While she waits for a reply, she's looking for whatever portals they used to seal off the breach, preferably a hatch in the ceiling where she might be able to climb out of the water into air. If that fails, maybe she can do proper damage to their engines so that they can't get away. Not her forté, but it's bound to be easier to break the engines than repair them...
-
@Hellion:
From the astral plan its murky, the waters here are throwing up chop and spray you almost feel wet as you go aboard the submarine. Inside is a mess the bulkheads and water tight doors have been torn open, you guess that was your spirit at work or the explosives. As you make your way forward to the main control room there are few people left standing, in the bridge there are four people: Rigger plugged into the ships main control and bleeding from one ear. Two security personal armed with assault rifles and hang grenades. The Fourth is the captain standing over control counsel swearing at it.
@minnow:
" See if you can't get the rear hatch open that way we can raid the ship better. The forward hatch is too badly damaged for us to break into. I'll have our marines meet you there."
-
Hellion looks around a bit in detail before he heads outside the room to wait for the team or a teammate to report what's going on in the bridge.

Victory Line armored clothing -he really loved this WWII-style bomber jacket- he signaled for he air drone to pick up the doberman and put it down in the surfaced submarine.
I send scout drone ahead, can help with fight on ship. Captain, when we will get there ourselves?
-
"Aye, Capt'n. Any intel on surprises on the other side of the hatch?" Minnow attempts to locate the rear hatch and will assess her chances of getting it open before making the attempt.
Oops, didn't format my roll correctly:
2 rolls on perception, in case I need separate rolls for locating the hatch vs. examining it.
Perception: locating &/or examining rear hatch. (12d6.hits=, 12d6.hits=) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3556344/)
12d6.hits → <bound method std.hits of [3, 1, 6, 5, 3, 6, 2, 2, 5, 3, 4, 6]> = 5 hits
12d6.hits → <bound method std.hits of [6, 4, 3, 1, 3, 4, 6, 5, 1, 5, 4, 3]> = 4 hits
Minnow has several skills for opening the hatch. Str4 + Bod3 if it's a simple unsecured wheel-type hatch & needs to be brute forced. If it's locked: Hardware pool 7 (+2 maglocks), Locksmith pool 7 (+2 picking).
By the way, is this a hatch going up, or a hatch going horizontal? Horizontal would be far more complicated unless the area on the other side of the hatch is also somehow under water. Also, does the hatch open into the room, or out of the room she's in?
-
@Wagner:
Samuel's Voice comes across the comlink "Send in the drone and have it defend the rear hatch Minnow's going to open it for us"
@Minnow:
The hatch is above, and is easy to open there is no locking system, having entered he ship's main corridor you make your way to the rear hatch. That is locked by a maglock that will need to be bypassed.
-
Minnow climbs out of the hatch, takes out her viper, heads down the corridor quietly and when next to the next hatch, she takes out her passkey, working on the lock & figuring out what type of room or corridor she can expect on the other side.
