Title: Rate my rigger!
Post by: Digital_Viking on <05-07-12/1503:44>
Hey all - looking for some extra eyes on my new character(Based/stolen on UmaroIV's Mercenary Rigger). Not looking for efficient (Though its not a bad thing!) as much as anything obvious I may have missed or maybe something that doesn't work. Still have ~5k and 4 BP to work with.  And with that I present Desolation:

When you jump in a drone or vehicle you will use Response rather then your reaction.  Also agility is the same case.

Yup - but he won't always be jumped in, plus the idea is he can also be "on site" and provide ranged backup.

Nothing? I know I'm not THAT good - even if I cribbed from Umaro  ;D

Looks good, the only thing I'd really note is that both PuSHeD and Encephalon would benefit you significantly since you have so many logic-linked skills. Also, your Ford has a weapon mount with no weapon.

I'd also think about your skill priorities:

Electronics Skill Group 1
Armorer   2                 :
Electronic Warfare  4
Hacking         2
Infiltration    2
Pilot Aircraft    3
Pilot Ground Craft  3

Electronics has Hardware (get past Maglocks, which is important and you can be good at) and Computer (matrix perception, which is very important for noticing you are being haXXored). Armorer is totally useful but is typically an Extended test, so having the skill is good enough and I think 1 is enough for you, as you have decent Logic already.

EW is a useful skill but I'm not sure you need 4 EW more than you need more points in other skills.

Hacking is probably worth having a 4 in.

Infiltration, Pilot Aircraft, and Pilot Groundcraft are all useful, I just don't like 2-3 rating skills because of karma efficiency.

Doesn't the Cerebral Booster raise Logic and therefore the Logic based skills?

Been working on a revised version - Shifted some stuff around, got both pilots to 4, and managed to swap the wired reflexes and reaction enhancers for a MBW2. Will take your suggestions into account Umaro - thanks

The idea is that you get both.  PuSHeD + Encephelon 1 for example gives you 2 more dice to all your logic skill rolls in addition to the bonus from cerebral boosters.  More importantly, they help logic-linked skills directly and thus help with hacking and most computer use.

I would just get Muscle Toner 2 and save the restricted gear.  While you're decent in a fight, that's not your main job.  Agility 7 is a perfectly high value to start and you can always buy Muscle Toner 4 in play.  It also frees up some cash and BPs.

You might also want to see about increasing your Body to 5 if you can.  That will in effect give you +3 dice to damage resistance and an extra P box.  It's not super high priority, but something to consider.

Right - but in an either/or situation I'd go with cerebral boosters right? They seem to be cheaper and more essence friendly

For your character, I would take PuSHeD first, Cerebral Boosters second, and Encephalon third. Part of this is that you can't start with Cerebral Boosters 3, but you can start with Encephalon 1 (2 is not as useful and you may never want it) and with PuSHeD.

Ok - another thought (and thanks for all the great feedback guys!)

If I can swing a MBW2 at creation, is it better for me to do so vs. WR2 and RE2 ?

MBW2 is really an essence saver.  WR2+RE2 is 3.6 essence and 52,000Y versus MBW2's 85000Y.  If you're going to buy Alphaware Wired Reflexes, then the essence cost is the same.  MBW2 does cost 1000Y more, but you get Skillwires 4 and +2 to dodge.  You do however have to burn a restricted gear on MBW2 so that's a 5BP or 25000Y surcharge.  Since you have .75 essence to spare and some cakeware* like cybereyes and a Math SPU you could remove, you don't really need to spare the soul for the most part.

That is, unless you're planning on using Skillwires 4.  Then it's a fairly good essence discount for its price even with the restricted gear.  Skillsofts are crazy expensive so I would only mess with them if you were going to pirate them.

*- I define cakeware are pieces of cyber or bioware that is really cool and neat, but aren't that big of a deal.  Having really awesome robot eyes is cool, but you could just wear contacts and/or goggles 99% of the time and save the essence and cash.  A Math SPU is the same.  +2 dice to a test that's easy enough to be "good enough" at usually isn't worth it.

The other thing to keep in mind is that MBW also stacks with RE. So you could, if you had the cash, get MBW 2, and RE 2, and drop your base Reaction by 2. That would still leave you with a net gain in points that you could then spend on, say, better skills.

Okay, I totally missed that little bit of awesome! I can so use that trick, myself.

Also, on a tangentially related note, how does Suprathyroid Gland react with MBW and/or WR?

Completely dependent on how the GM defines Initiative Booster or Initiative Enhancement since the books never did. Either A.) you get everything but the REA bonus (ie REA doesn't stack) or B.) you get it all because it isn't an initiative booster/enhancement.

Soooooo.... which is it, oh wise and mighty GM, whose benevolence and generosity inspires gifts of pizza and Mountain Dew. ;)
