In Dunkie's will he gave several people, who I found were Watchers, land and other things. What did they do?
-
They were the bigger players in Dunkie's worldwide spy network, including people in many megas, most countries, and definitely the shadows. One of his Watchers, SilveryK, was a sysop in the Denver Nexus.
-
And I might be misremembering, but it seems a disproportionate number of them have been getting deep-sixed of late.
-
A few of them were killed when a free spirit Dunkelzhan bound in a house was trying to get those 'tokens of esteem' to form the key that would release her.

Including one of the authors of Shadowrun.

Yeah, those have been dropping like flies for a few years now. One got offed with a gun his company made IIRC.
-
The benefit they had before Dunkelzahn died was that no one knew the group existed. Once it was outed, it became a target of every group that exists to disrupt or destroy foreign spy organizations. That was two decades ago, and not once has there ever been a mention of anyone (Daviar/DF, Ghostwalker, the Free Watchers) expanding their ranks since Dunkelzahn died.
-
Was there ever a canon count of Watchers?
-
Doubtful. How many field agents does the CIA have -- and how many contacts do they have? Not everything gets written down, and someone you may not think of as being an asset may be the one you need right at the moment.
-
Like the guy in the roach coach all the soldiers talk freely around as they get their snacks.
-
Some of the watchers went with Daviar and the DF, others have gone with Ghostwalker. Some went independent. But Daviar and GW are both doing what they can to expand their spy networks.
-
Some probably retired with the unwritten parts of Dunkie's will.
What, you thought we saw ALL of it? ;D

No.

Probably fewer than one might imagine. I remember seeing a reference to Argus (MET2000's military intelligence arm/subsidiary) claiming to have 10,000 agents and laughing my ass off. The insinuation being that by agents it actually meant officers. I'm not sure that the CIA has had 10,000 officers in its entire history. That was actually something that got sufficiently muddled as corporate bullshit in War! for me to approve of.

No.
Cool. That means it's possible my first choice character could be the son of a Watcher.
Just something I've been considering . . .

There's a reason Thorn poked fun at that claim, in SL.
-
I've always believed there were 300 or so Watchers max. At least that's what I've always used number wise for them.

Someone like Jonathan Blake, or a relatively anonymous Watcher?

Relatively anonymous. An Anglo (and family) living in Fairbanks, Athabaskan Council.

What's the best source of information on Watchers?
One of my player's characters secretly works for Big D via Jane-in-the-Box (campaign set in the 50s)... and he usually makes copies of all the data they collect etc.
Seems likely that he would be part of an organisation like this... but would like to get more info before introducing it into the game.
Thanks
-
Portfolio of a Dragon gives the most info on them, but other than a few people who are confirmed Watchers, not much is known, other than the fact that their network is likely world-wide.
-
Thanks Mirikon :)
-
There were bits of updates in Dragons of the Sixth World, State of the Art: 2064, and Loose Alliances, since time had marched on. But POAD is probably most relevant to a 2050s campaign.
-
Speaking of watchers whatever happened to SilveryK?
-
This should give you enough to go on. Also, during Crash 2.0, SilveryK spread the word to Shadowland about how to kill the worm.
Silvery K (Kimberly Robinson), System Admin
SilveryK joined the Denver Nexus group in 2058 after sharing some of the toys that were given to her in Big D’s Will with Bash and Shiva. She is backup for Perri in administration duties, plus is the liaison for Ghostwalker’s requests from the Dragon’s Lair.
-
Of course, Bash and Shiva both died, while SIlveryK didn't and, in fact, moved up the ladder in Denver in the wake.
[Plan 9]
Just as planned.
