So I started creating a build in 4th Ed with the philosophy of battlefield information superiority, a desert wars merc Tactician/comm specialist. most of my experience was from 3rd edition so I had to trawl through some books to find things that would improve my Perception to this end (I have a habit of liking to build niche characters with strengths and weaknesses, and a warrior that relied about nous rather than a meat tank cyberware build appealed to me)
Doing a whole orientation system/AR Tactical software/radar/ultrasound sensor omniscence thing, and Ive been looking into the commlink, somebody said it was cheaper to cobble together a commlink out of unwired and Ive been pondering the things I would have to do and the programs I would have to have to intercept communications (either radio or nodewise) and decrypt them without being found out and node compromised as he isnt a true hacker. (and having an enemy with acess to your tactical layout is bad news) So definitely will run my PAN in hidden mode as as much 'you cant see me ability as possible/
Sniffer and decrypt are obvious ones. and Ill probably be running an processor 6
. as I think somebody told me running programs causes the responce to lower in rating which affects what level programs you can run? to utilise the tacsoft you have to run three commlinks as slaves to my subscription list.. and I have no idea what effect that has) Stealth ECM and ECCM also are big ones.
I still haven't finished this, I will probably want to squeeze in the launch skill to utilise the underbarrel launcher on the Ares Alpha (Tactical smoke/flash grenades, yeah!) and probably shift some of the knowskills around to a bit of a broader range

try to read commlink optimization in unwired and ask your gm how it would work with... tacnet
if it does provide +1 to every test involving the tacnet (aka +1 to every attack test etc.) then you probably should go for it
you still gonna have trouble filling that tacnet 4 with enough people participating so you should check if the rating 4 with Restricted gear is worth it...
if you really go for an optimized tacnet 4 you maybe want to run int zentralized so everyone in the team can benefit from the +5 dice Pool
since you do have leadership (if you got the book) check War page 137/138 and see if it fits what you had in mind

Also, remember, if you outfit a Drone with 8 Sensor Channels it acts as a full-fledged member of the Tacnet.
That means you can grab some EyeSpys or Flying Eyes and mod them with Improved Sensor Array, plus Chameleon Coat them if you want to be sneaky about it. Next, stuff them with a Rating 6 Camera (fill it with mods), Rating 6 Microphone (ditto), a Laser Range Finder, and any other sensor equipment you think might be useful.

Woops! I ment Ergonomics, not Optimisation. Turns out it is its own program class, so no it cannot be applied! I had thought about having a spotter drone, but I tried to make him as 'self contained' as possible, (amongst budget constraints)and as it turns out the group I will be joining has a rigger!
Thrass - Yeah, definitely centralised, I made this guy not to be the star of the show, but a support to help the team achieve objectives! Hmmm, I might have to take a look at WAR, as a leadership based bennie might be very groovy indeed. (I want him to grow into being able to manage team of runners, wether they be a permanent team or indies. As opposed to his previous enviroment of an established heirachy and chain of command)
