Title: France
Post by: sidslick on <06-13-12/1318:25>
Has anyone good, detailed information about what is happening in France between the years 1999 and 2074?  I'm looking for lots of information on France, and it's supposed control by a military Junta opposed by the corporations and the nobility - I translated the SOX sourcebook, and it's whetted my appetite for more.  Can anyone give me good canon information or guide me to a decent sourcebook?

Cheers

Sid

I have no idea if with SOX you meant Shadows Over Europe, if not, I suggest to give a look to that book, it was for Shadowrun 3ed. Good hunt!

SoX is another thing than Shadows of Europe, it detail the area between France, Germany and Luxembourd that got heavily radiated.

The french version of Shadow of Europe is more detailed about France and there is a specific supplement for France (from Jeux Descartes) back from the FASA time but never translated and thus considered canon.

Well, it depends. Shadows of Europe is the main canon guide. Sixth World Almanac has an update on France and a timeline from 1999-2072.

The French version of Runner Havens has a chapter on Marseilles, and the French Corporate Enclaves has one on Lille.

And the french version of feral cities has a chapter on Clermont-Ferrand.
The "France" book was never submitted to FASA for approval and is therefore not canon. Some materials from "Shadows of Europe" contradict what is said in "France"

Indeed. A lot of people had a problem with mincing French nobles cosplaying in Sun King-era costumes.

Actually, there were no such thing in the France SB. There was a fancy-looking French aristocrat in one of the old SR novel, and the "fifteenth-century French royal court" Heritage Line in Cannon Companion and Arsenal (which would be more Charles VII (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_VII_of_France) than Louis XIV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_XIV)).

Ah. Yes. Now I remember that novel. Good times.

Which novel was that?  I've read a good chunk of them and am pulling a blank as to which one it is.

Why am I thinking of high-end Shadowruns between Chef Schools now?

I thought about runs that would involve sabotaging kitchens and stealing recipes ahead of Michelin Guide inspectors visits. For added fun, the best restaurants are also the places the best Johnsons go, also explaining how a chef got to know how to hire runners. I later realized that France may not be the best place to do it: Japanese chefs actually are even more crazy about Michelin Guide ratings than the French.

A good chef can make all the difference to a restaurant or hotel. Most line cooks don't work from a recipe, pastry is a whole diffrent game. I could see an extraction of a chef just to make a valued employee happy.

I can vouch for the "Good Chef can make a difference" thing.  My Mother used to sell kitchen supplies, and we knew where to eat based on where cooks and chefs moved.  It was very rare that we were surprised by a bad meal.
