So I've been thinking about making a Judge-Dredd style pistol for shadowrun (can never remember if it's the lawbringer or the lawgiver), and ATM I'm thinking something along the lines of an Ares Predator with both a second clip and an ammo skip system (I seem to remember more than two ammo types for Dredd...), plus an underbarrel version of one of those pistol grenade launchers, probably with a reduced barrel mod. Add to that a weapon personality, biometric safety, and a safe target system, along with a weapon commlink for processing voice commands, and I think we're about there.
However, it's been too long since I last saw anything related to the Judge and I can barely remember what I'm talking about. Please, someone help me!
-
I would use either a Super Warhawk or, better yet, a Cavalier Arms Sheriff (from Gun He(a)ven 2) as a base weapon. Otherwise, the mods seem appropriate.
I think Dredd had three ammo types though (regular, armor-piercing, explosive).
-
Depends on which Dread. Stallone version had "double whammy". Id go with stick-n-shock
But a pistol may be too small for the proposed mods. I dont have the book in front, but an ammo-skip system and extended mag may be easier for what you want than with say a revolver. Id go maybe a machine pistol though or at least a heavy pistol with no less than 13-15 rounds basic. But to get diverse, thats gonna eat up a lot of ammo.
-
Based on the new film:
1) Ammo: Hotshot (SR doesn't have an analogy), Regular, Explosive, Armor Piercing, Incendiary (which functioned more like a grenade)
2) Burst and full-auto modes
3) If I remember from the comic, it's roughly a .454 pistol, slightly below the Warhawk
4) Security and electronics it looks like you've covered, except the biometric scanner needs to cause injury to unauthorized users
-
Start with an Ares Crusader, its got SA and BF, and a very high ammo capacity
Additional Clip (2 slots)
Advanced Safety w/Self destruct (1 Slot)
Smartgun System (1 slot)
Underbarrel Weapon (3 slots)
Add a barrel mounted sound suppressor (for switching back and forth between covert mode and not)
If you'll allow over modding you can add
Electronic Firing
Custom Look
Alternately if you want more oomph at the cost of ammo capacity start with a Ruger thunderbolt as above, but replace the added smartlink with an internal Gas vent 2

Sorry, but the gun comes, mint condition out of the box, with either a smartgun system integrated into it or an underbarrel laser sight, as well as recoil reducer of 2 due to the special chamber. While this effects the price by 400Y for the 'linked version, I don't think that it takes up any weapon mod slots, thankfully. I also don't think that you would be allowed to stick a gas vent system in it as the rules state that you can only put gas vents in machine pistols, SMGs, assult rifles and machine guns from light to heavy, but if you really need recoil reduction, buy a personalized grip. It'll cost less then the internal gas vent by only a hundred nuyen, and you'll still get some reduction.
-
Yes, of course, I meant replace on the list of mods I suggested, not replace the internal smartlink available with the T-Bolt.
Personalized grip is a good way to go if you look at the Lawgiver as a highly customized version of a standard production weapon, but if you're looking for a 'production model' I'd go with Electronic Firing instead.

I had the same idea but after reading the rules for the ammo skip system, to get the best effect you definitely need a revolver. The ammo skip system with a clip just ejects the ammo you don't want until it gets to the good stuff. It does mean you can load the first half with stick'n'shock and the rest with ex-ex, but you won't be able to change from one to the other without a revolver.
The one I went with was the warhawk with an external smartgun system, increased cylinder (to increase ammo to 8), ammo skip system, improved range finder, firing selection change (small) to SA and then if I remember correctly I didn't have many slots left, if any.
As for Dredd, he would definitely have skinlink, biometric reader, custom look, personalised grip, advanced safety system with an upgrade for shocking unauthorised users, a bunch of camera upgrades and DEFINITELY a voice activation.
Load it up with your favourite ammo, but remember the warhawk can't use ex-ex.
-
And be sure to ask your GM if you can overmod it, since you are equipping it with quite a few low utility options.

D'oh! I totally forgot the voice activation!

...advanced safety system with an upgrade for shocking unauthorised users...
Shocking? SHOCKING???
A real Lawgiver EXPLODES and TAKES THE HAND OFF of an unauthorized user!
None of this wimpy "Shocking" stuff. ;D

I'm sure I found a mod for that somewhere...

Advanced Safety with Explosive Self Destruct, right out of Arsenal

That's more like it!

I'm away from my books at the moment, but I thought of the Sakura Fubuki. Does that fire from each barrel in one burst or does it fire one barrel? Because you can load one barrel with one of the types of ammo... But reloading would be a pain, so extended "clip" and additional "clip" would be necessary.
EDIT:
Well, SR4A doesn't say if the Fubuki fires from each chamber or from one. For our purposes, we can use it as a base:
Sakura Lawgiver
- High-Power Chambering (for one of the chambers)
- Extended Clip (13 rounds each)
- Voice Activation / Response
- Advanced Safety, Explosive Self Destruct
- Smartgun (External)
In the movie, Dredd used Stun, High Ex, Normal, and Armour Piercing I think. So, that's SnS, HP, Ex-Ex, and APDS.
-
He also had incendiary rounds, though I think that's best handled with an underbarrel grenade
-
And Deathdealer Ammunition Mk I (Gun
Haven Heaven 2) for Heat Seeker/Hot Shot ammo. ;D

You do realize that the moment you say that you are the law stuff *HAS* to go wrong?
It's one of those Reference Rule things.

You also have to pronounce it, "Eh em thuh lah!". Make Sly proud.
-
Karl Urban Dredd is cooler than Sly as he can go the entire movie without needing to grab helmetless face time.

I don't think it is possible to make a less correct statement ;D. Sly improves every movie he's in.
-
The new Dredd was very much a superior movie to the old one.

...even "Stop! Or my Mom will Shoot!"
...yeah, I think you mean "every B-movie he's in"
The new Dredd was very much a superior movie to the old one.
For one thing, he kept in character and DIDN'T REMOVE HIS HELMET FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, MUCH LESS FOR CHARACTERIZATION THAT NORMALLY WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO DREDD, or talk to Rob Schneider about how the "Lowah" is always right, even when its wrong. Or, indeed, star with Rob Schnieder, reminding me again about the nightmare of a movie known as, "The Hot Chick."
... :o DAMNIT I JUST REMEMBERED IT AGAIN.
-
The new Dredd was very much a superior movie to the old one.
Agreed. But Sly, being Sly, was a much more enjoyable Dredd (at least for me; I have a thing for hammy actors).

WOULD YOU LIKE SOME CHEESE WITH YOUR HAM, SIR?

Oh, I love Sly. He's a fun actor to watch.
But I'm also a huge Karl Urban fan and for the tone I was hoping to find in a Dredd movie with the utter lock down of rage combined with a dry wit of Dredd, he nailed the character. The range of expressions he pulled off and the obvious building rage as the movie goes on and things get more intense just using his body posture and lower-middle face for expressions was huge.
But in the end, the two Dredd movies are like comparing Adam West's Batman and Batman Begins. I /love/ me some Adam West Batman and it's Bat-Shark Repelant and Bat-Dust-Analyser and death by giant cook book, but despite that love of the absurd they are radically different movies. And I personally find Urban's Dredd to be a MUCH better depiction of the AD2000 Comic line of Dredd and the universe its created.

Oh, no doubt. Sly's Dredd is merely more fun.

Yep. You can't take Sly seriously in a lot of his movies, but he's one of the top Popcorn Flick heroes.

"Wait."
One word, and it had WEIGHT to it! It slammed down like a bunch of lead slabs hitting a marble floor!
-
Honestly you wouldn't be able to make a lawgiver in shadowrun without creating a new weapon. And it would be massively over powered. But It would be sooo much fun to have
-
Do they ever call it a pistol or just sidearm/primary weapon? Might have better success taking a rather compact SMG as the base model.
And since it's a home game kind of thought exercise, you could just venture into the 'exotic weapon' territory and let it be a snazzy awesome sauce weapon because it's exotic.
The traveler Judge Dredd system has the Lawgiver as it's own weapon skill so they make no bones about it being a non-standard sidearm.

I agree that was a great scene. What I felt this movie did (and why it's a 77% Rotten Tomato's action movie and not a 34% action movie) is that even though it's about as direct a plot as can be 'go here, investigate murder, esclate scope of investigation, kill everyone, eat a taco.' the crucible that Anderson goes through is very well done and she is forced to sink or swim (as Dredd says in the beginning "It's all the deep end")
But what truly impressed beyond her amazingly done crucibal series of events was Dredd's on subtle shifts and developments. How he let his own opinion change over the course of the movie without ever having to truly compromise his pride in an overt way to admit it.
-
The German Synchro was better.
At least in the Stallone Movie.
No idea about the new one yet.
-

Honestly the biggest problem seems to be the multiple multiple different ammo types. Additional clip will get you two ammo types, but between the underbarrel GL and the machine pistol/smg portion Dredd (Urban version) fires about 6 different ammo types without having to swap magazines or change loads.
-
Like I said, you would have to create a whole new weapon type. A form of caseless ammunition that carries an extensive number of various types of warheads (projectiles) and they all use the same propellant or some kind of energy propellant maybe like a rail gun.
-
it would be awesome weapon. Machine pistol with ammo skip, a underbarrel grenade launcher, and a Id system.
I like both movies actually. The old movie, just because. The new one was much better though and closer to the 2000AD comics.
-
Metal Storm Weaponry would do that just fine.
-
Revolvers are the only weapons with ammo skip that would work, though. Anything else would spit out rounds if you asked for something near the bottom.
Not using the "Metal Storm" method of electronic firing. You have, say six barrels, each packed with 10-20 individual rounds. Just handwave that you can pick which barrel fires at any given time, and there you go. Basic framework for "Da Lawuh"
