Running Arcology Shutdown, my players decided to go to war with Deus, the AI. They decided that melting down the fusion reactors in the basement would certainly destroy that pesky AI. Yeah, Seattle wouldn't fare well, but that's collateral damage for ya. They pulled it off, but the AI simultaneously hacked into NORAD and made it look like an ICBM was heading for Seattle. When most of downtown disappeared in a mushroom cloud, the president began a full nuclear exchange.
We are going to continue playing among the ashes. The sun will be blocked out, which will of course kill all plant life.
Any ideas for cool, post-apocalyptic Shadowrun plots? Thanks!

While it sounds like a fun way to go with a campaign, remember that nukes don't quite work the way they're supposed to in SR. So yeah, if the world went nuclear because of this for your campaign then things would be largely F'ed up, especially in and around Seattle. But you wouldn't likely have a full-on nuclear winter scenario, more of a nuclear autumn with a lot of places/nations/corporate assets highly wasted and certainly some serious ecological effects and a LOT of newborn toxic types but not a full-on never-see-the-sun-ever-again kind of thing.

First off, feel free to ignore the whole "nukes don't work right" as it is one of the more stupid elements of the metaplot. It basically boils down to "Can't have mere mortals having the power to destroy dragons/immortal elves" but i digress.
I guess I don't see SR going any more post apocalyptic then it already is Thor shots are are available and a much better option, and the real drivers of world power don't have a mutually assured destruction attitude. Because it's bad for business.
Basically at the point it happens it's really no longer shadowrun, you can always go picking through Deadlands or something.

In the scenario described, there'd be no nuclear exchange, just a MASSIVE coverup. The CC does it all the time: the whole arcology debacle was hush-hush, as was Chicago, everything in DC, technomancers, otaku, and most of the dragons' dealings. Even people who see it better with their oen eyes are "persuaded" to change their minds
