In atmosphere a laser would make a sound as it vaporizes the air around the beam, and then the air would then rush back in to fill that void.

Then of course, the capacitors of the laser would probably make some sort of discharge sound. Though I'm less certain of that.

Yeah. The 250 farad cap banks I've worked with were fairly silent.

So the only sound you're going to hear really is the dust and air getting excited/superheated, and then the interaction with the cold air around it. From what I've seen of real lasers, most anything hit by them catches fire, or conflagrates in some way. If it's strong enough to go through something, it'll push right on through, if not it'll burn the surface, causing varying degrees of burns.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few people had programmed their lasers to go *Bwoooooo* while it charges up before firing though. So your experience may vary.

Essentially a sizzle and a hum.

I stated him up a while ago, at least my conception of it... Hey CanRay, are Mungo's stats IP, or under NDA?

Oh, but imagine the possibilities of a drone rigged with a perfectly machined mirror setup to crate an omnidirectional turret.
It would be cool, but I don't think that we're going to be doing a Venom-Beam Cannon trick to bounce killer lasers over hills.

What? You mean Disco-ball armor is NOT going to be an vehicle option for SR5?
Mirrored armor to resist lasers is already proposed now. It hasn't been economically needed, which is probably why it isn't proposed as an option. How effective it would be to diffuse directed energy weapons I don't know, but it probably wouldn't be as expensive as the structural and surface modification for stopping kinetic weapons (bullets, rockets).

I remember in Interstate '82, the armor to protect against lasers was CHROME.  ;D

Oh LAWDY. I'm having flash backs. I can see the Rifts. I am so building a glitterboy out an Iron Will or whatever that walker bot from that fashion book was.

Attitude. Yeah. Sholder mounted gun can be modded from a cyberware piece I've seen somewhere. Mount a good ol'fashioned gauss rifle on there. Coilgun would be more accurate, but I don't know of a statted coilgun in SR. foot anchors are a thing. Don't need jets if I'm using an assault cannon. Oh my yes.

I wonder how l long it'll take the group to notice...
