I liked how the movie was scary without being violent, I hate the setting though... the Zerg did the whole alien thing much better though.

That's because they along with a ton of sci-fi stuff over the last 30 or so years have been stealing from Aliens, the concept, the character, the designs, everything, if you look hard enough you can see Aliens written all over it.

For whatever reason it surprises me that it takes a simple action instead of a free action to use the active targeting, but that's really just for tests involving plain shooting a mounted gun, in dog fighting situations I can see it taking a whole combat round to attain a lock and line up the target for the gunnery test to be made.
It's a free action to tell the pilot upgrade what to do.

So I can get most if not all of the form, but very little of the function of the smart gun effectively.....I surprisingly don't have too many problems with that, sure it'd be cool to get bonuses from a target tracking/autotargeting system, but in the end I can live without it....though right now the best I can do is get the pieces of function together....all in all this gun is gonna cost me....6600 nuyen total for the Ares MP LMG, Gyro Stabilization, electronic firing system, external smartgun system, and rating 3 monocle with image link, smart link, and thermographic....not to mention I'd want to skinlink all that stuff or hardwire it if I could get a pricing/availability estimate for it all....add in 250 round belts of explosive ammo for 1250.... (closest I got to function, that or Ex-explosive for 2500 nuyen per belt of ammo) getting all this stuff in-game is certainly going to be a pain....may just have to make a character starting with all these goodies....

In other words, it's a free action to confuse the hell out of the Pilot program to tell it to "Shoot the drek out of everything and then shoot it some more!!!" when the fertilizer hits the rotary device.  ;D

Confusing your dog brain is always a choice, but I was talking about active sensor targeting.

so you have to shoot someone so you can shoot them...Why not get target designators?

Also the Zerg were inspired by aliens, the designers say so, I just like the zerg because they're almost plausible. Unlike mary sue monsters who pretty much go against all biology and reason.

You're going to tell me what that game is so I can finally remember what it was I was playing 15 years ago.

Descent: Freespace? Actually, I was looking for any of a dozen half-remembered games where you could wave a targeting reticule around and lock on.

Though the interface was rather dated even when it came out, I've yet to see anything but an ace combat game come close to StarWars: Tie Fighter. You can change what part of the enemies craft you can lock onto and the reticle lets you know when to start firing as you lead your target instead of just lighting up when you point at them, that's something I'd expect of a "Smart Gun"

Here is your Aliens Smartgun funcionality without confusing the dog brain.

Or mount a Target Designating IR-Laser to the helmet sighted to the Monocle, a Limping Propulsion System hard mounted between the integral Gyroscopic Mounting Harness to allow the weapon to change it's facing, and the Pilot Program Upgrade programed to fire at the IR-Designated target.

My Version:
Smartgun the LMG (1500)
Get a Smart Firing Platform (SR4a P.322) (2000)
Take the Tripod Off
Mount it on a Gyro Stabilization system (SR4a P.322) (3000)
Pilot 3, Sensor 3, Targeting 3 Autosoft, self firing harness mounted light machine gun.
Available at standard Char-Gen.
