I picked up Gnome Stew's book Masks: 1000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game. I am looking over the Modern section and a lot of the NPC ideas could be easily tweaked for use in Shadowrun.

Chummer is great if you're going for 4E, someone's working on a 5E version too tho I have no idea of its worth yet. Nothing can beat a solid understanding of the mechanics and rules though ;)

Sounds cool.

If you haven't seen it, there's also Blackjack's People, a fan-made doc with a ton of interesting NPC ideas:

If your going to make the jump to 5th, I'm really liking Hero Lab.

Indeed. I just wish Hero Lab didn't cost so much. For how little I get to play I cannot justify the expense right now.

Chummer for 5th; it's in Beta, but it's free and Adam, the guy who's working on it, does a ton of bug fixes as people report them.

Give it a try!

True - any chance of getting your players to kick into the 'GM Love Fund'?  :)

Currently, I have no Shadowrun players; sorta taking a break for the game and playing some other systems. Plus everyone's pursestrings are kinda tight right now, darn college tuition.

Sorry to hear about no players - that's a bummer!

The tuition is definitely not roleplaying friendly - it gets better!  :)

Eh, I needed a break from the GM chair. Shadowrun is a favorite, but I've been leaning more in the direction of games like FATE and Fiasco. The crunchiness of 4e, and what I've seen and heard of 5e, makes my head spin at times and I need something a bit lighter.

I have not even been able to use my SR5e book, but I shall eventually.

Tuition stinks, but eventually it helps make the monies needed to buy cool stuff; like Hero Lab extensions.
