Hello to you all!  I have had a question rolling around in my brain for some time, and I figured I would ask the opinion of my fellow Shadowrunners.  I've got my hands on the Force and Destiny beta for the Star Wars RPG by Fantasy Flight Games, and I'm working on a character.  Now, I've got to choose a species, and it really comes down to either Zabrak (who is in the book), or Selonian (who is from another book).  Now, I've got a really good story cooked up for the Selonian, but the thing is that the Zabrak starts with 20 exp more than the Selonian, and most of the Selonian benefits over the Zabrak likely wont help me.  Now, 20 exp is about 1-2 sessions, so it isn't a ton, but it is worth considering.  I can make a story for the Zabrak, of course, but the Selonian story seems really strong, and it gives me a very clear vision of my character.  I am likely going to go with Selonian, but I figured I would ask what others thought of the question.

So my question to you is:  Do you chose the story-strong Selonian, or the stat-strong Zabrak?

Selonian, easy enough.
Would you want to go into a place where the resident had a drum-fed shotgun and can see in the dark?

Story over stat, every time. Story can be built upon. Stat can only be played against.

Get your character's abilities squared away first and foremost. The story can wait until game start. If you focus on story in generation, you are less likely to have a character that will survive to see any advancement.

Always go with the story.
If Tom Brady’s a Spike Baby, what does that make Brees and Rodgers?

That depends on your GM and your group.  In my roleplaying group it would be Selonian, but I've seen groups if you don't take the stats, you won't survive the first session.

I personally would go with the Selonian, if the difference is only that small.

Thanks for the quick answers, though I must say, it was exactly what I expected.  I honestly chose those two because they would both work well enough in the role I'm going for, the Selonian has some extra stuff that means they lose 20 off their starting exp.  I always find the subject to be interesting for a discussion.

This exactly. In my rogue trader group I would suggest the story heavy version would be best. Where as in my SR game you would be eaten alive by the power gaming hose beasts, aka the other PCs

Honestly just do what will be the most fun for you. As long as you have fun you've won regardless of what the dice say

Yup.
Spooky, what do you do this pass? Shoot him with my thunderstruck gauss rifle. (Rolls)  8 hits. Does that blow his head off?
