Hi all,

So this is a character that's based on Daredevil, except being blind he's agoraphobic. The idea that I'm going for is that his agoraphobia is based purely off of his vision IE the sounds, smells, etc don't trigger his agoraphobia, it's only the sight of the world outside of his shack. I know taking the Agoraphobic negative quality will give me some huge penalties, but I was wondering if there was a way of bending those rules so that those penalties only apply to when he can see outside of his home? Like if he gets into a fight and his blindfold comes off, I would want him to be completely crippled by fear, unless he loses his vision in some other way during the fight?

Social Anxiety wouldnt I thinkl The PC I want to build is while he's wearing a bandana, or his blinded in otherwise, that he just cowers on the ground, but once he becomes blinded hes back to being helpful.

Use the Flashbacks negative quality maybe? At least as a framework for how it could work mechanically.

If the blindfold comes off, it triggers the test that sees how long he is "frozen in fear." After it wears off, he is still frightened, but at least willing to move enough to blindfold himself again.

That's all assuming that your GM is cool with the concept, the idea of a person that is paralyzingly frightened by just the sight of an environment other than his home is a little strange. Agoraphobia is actually the fear of being in an unfamiliar environment, somewhere the person views themselves as being unsafe or without a way to escape (to a safe place). The "Head in the Sand" method of just I can't see it so it can't hurt me is probably an unlikely solution to that particular issue, psychologically speaking.

But if your GM is cool with you voluntarily blinding yourself and consequently making it so you become even more crippled with fear if you aren't blinded, go for it I guess.

There's always custom place for a custom madness.

How about you just roleplay that as a quirk of your character? Blindfight without ultrasound or assensing is very hard to pull off.
Using it just as a quirk or concept will also avoid any discussions about a negative quality not being a negative quality if it doesn't actually affect you in play.
Losing your blindfold in combat is very unlikely to happen - especially if you just wear a mask or helmet.

Thank you for all of the replies.

My GM is very willing to work with PCs that bring something unusual to the table. I'll talk to him about maybe home-brewing a few rules to work it, he's always been really accommodating.
