The guys who go VR? Well, there's a good chance they've got a Reality Filter program, and one of the easiest things to do with it is change the basic views when moving around. So, hackers get to make the transitions look like whatever they want. You want to look like you're zipping through old-style phone lines? Done. A big glowing portal? Easy. A wild ride above the digital wasteland? You got it pal.
Well, that's would be assuming you directly jump from one node to another, and don't care what happens in between.

However in the old editions (and Neuromancer of course), you had an actual virtual landscape through which you could stroll from one node to another. That's what I'm missing, the opportunity to "walk out" of the virtual Stuffer Shack and then be somewhere.

Click a link in my bookmarks, my icon disappears in a puff of smoke and reappears in the target node?
Netiquette has really gone downhill when the Matrix went Wireless.

I call it "The Second Eternal September".

I am sad they did away with color coding the systems my players had a much better threat understanding when I said they were in a Green 3 system or an orange 6 or an ultraviolet 18

My group knows the system they're in is serious when the IC looks like fluffy white bunnies or Japanese Schoolgirls drinking straight from the bottle of Sake.
