Deliberate Johnson screws should be very, very remote. The problem is that it's a trope, so eveyrone wants to use it, until it became virtually the norm, and that's bad for Shadowrunning.

Now, accidental ones? That's fine. "You said there'd be light security! My team got shot by cybered-up goons!"
"Oh. Sorry about that. Looks like I wasn't informed of the personell transfer."
"... Fragger! Alright, we still got your chip, but the price just went up to cover my guys' medical bills."

A little oopsie is fine and dandy, but taking Johnson away, and the money he was paying, just cripples the trust of a group. Use it sparingly if at all.

(Of course, I once had a team come back to find Johnson was just *gone* ... while they were on a mission, a corporate team had gotten wind of his activity and swooped in to pick him up for 'debriefing'. They were able to turn around and sell their loot on the open market, so it wasn't a total loss, but, they didn't get as much as Mr J was offering.

...I was reading in the corporate guide the other day that MTC Johsons often use the name "Mr. Bunraku", implying Johnsons of that corp view shadowrunners are little more than prostitutes...

You don't happen to remember where in the Corp Guide that is do you? I've been looking for the sidebar about the corp specific Johnson aliases. I'm pretty sure its in Corp Guide, but I'm not finding it there or in any of the books I've gone through. This has been driving me nuts all day.

pg. 64 of the 3rd edition Corporate Download under Shadowrunning By The numbers. In a comment by Soylent Green.

I'm fairly sure it was mentioned in another 3rd edition book as well, since this isn't even the comment I remember. I'm pretty sure it's in the book that has part of a tutorial written to beginning Johnsons in it, but I can't remember the book right now. Frustating for me as well. The comment that mentioned the use of the Mr. Bunraku name by MCT Johnsons said something about someone in MCT black ops having some fun by picking this tag.

Sorry for the use of the title Corporate Guide, which might have sent you scanning the 4th edition book. I mainly have 3rd edition books.

To this day my absolutely favorite Johnson Backstab was the leader of the team just shooting him in the face.

A free spirit hired a team to liberate a sympathetic link of his with his real name on it. Once he was no longer threatened by the group of peaceful religious types who were keeping him from randomly killing as he pleased, he went to their sanctuary and killed all of them with his bare hands. Being a spirit, he forgot about the taboo of showing up to a meet with hands coated in blood and suddenly the team put 2 and 2 together, so their front man raised a shotgun and fired into the spirit's face.

After the time skip (10 years just about) they are still at each others throat.

That's a sweet story.  *yonk*  Got my next storyline to run...  ;) +1 Lys

I'm telling you, one of the best story plots I've ever seen. And the fallout easily could have been an entire campaign of the guy who shot Bones in the face hiring people to help him track down and kill this pyshcopath. Unfortunately we fell out of shadowrun and into another game for a few months but now that we are back (And bumped from 3rd to 4th). I do believe Mr. Bones or Cooper will be making an appearance in Denver.
