righto,
after all the amazing help i got on here for my first character, i've had a crack at building a 2nd one. this is a hacker, who should be able to just about hold his own in CC with his team.
he should be hanging out at the back of combat, slinging a grenade and suppressing with his AR.
let me know what you think!

Thomas "Dijj" Handleson
26 year old male human hacker.
brought up in corporate residence for AA company in seattle. attended corporate schooling @ tech college and then was given job within corp as a security staffer.
he worked his way through the organisation and became a trusted white hat for the security team, the corp paying for his cyber work to enhance his ability in his role.
his father worked for the same corp, he never knew his mother (left his dad when he was very young). his father took a transfer to a top-secret research lab for the corp, a few months later
died in service.
the corp never explained what happened, sent him a letter of condolence and then sacked him, blacklisting his corporate SIN.
this ensured he could never get any other work in the corp sector, and after a while trying to run freelance white hat work for smaller outfits, eventually fell into black hat work to pay the bills.
after several years pulling small scale remote hacks off, as well as data mining/surveillance for clients, he became a shadowrunner, and took on a more "hands-on" role with his hacking.
he plays in a guild on miracle shooter and is active on a number of hacker sites/communities. he has an active social life and likes to get out with his mates when not doing 'run work

You might grab some GM aggro for those two Incompetent qualities. Either you'll be asked to change them, or he'll smile and you'll find yourself in a situation where you'll need those two skills. And when that time comes, it'll suck for someone.

You're going to want Hacking at 6. I'd drop Throwing Weapons altogether, with a Rating of 1 and a Strength of 2 you're not going to be throwing far. Ditto for Blades. If you want something for self-defence, go with Unarmed. You'll always be able to defend yourself, even if it's mostly for show.

Oh, and unless you intend to do some combat with your van, drop the piloting point.

A Rating 5 or 6 Commlink really is necessary to be decent at this. You'll want 5s across the board to start with. Cybercombat is generally considered a waste, it's not often done, much like Astral Combat. I think it's cool though, but it's up to you. A lot of people don't hack in VR, so it's considered pointless.

Also, consider the mechanics skill group. You have quite a bit of gear that I'm assuming you want to fix yourself.

Can't tell what lifestyle you've chosen, but it's worth it to customize your lifestyle (Runner's Companion) to get yourself a place with enough space to tinker around and such.

Ah, throwing weapons is for grenades rather than knives mate! I didnt want to glitch a grag grenade lol.
Unarmed seems fine mate, just wanted something different from my previous character.

Nah, van is just for doing recon and jumping in from via sat if needed.
Re commlink, are we talking about milspec stuff? Cos i got the best one in the main book. I see you can get a milspec rating 8 comm but i'd have to take restricted gear and buy a suit of armour to get it (unless im being daft and missed something lol)

Yeah i might repurpose those cybercombat points, the agent can always do the fighting (hopefully like agent smith in the film matrix :-))
Vr hacking seems useful, i'm getting extra IP's and dice for doing it, why is it normally shunned then?
Looking at it, i should be better at vr hacking than ar hacking, so i wanted to rock with it. Its a pretty cool concept anyways, doesnt matter if dijj gets smoked by Black IC, i'll learn for next time :-)

Yeah, i was looking at getting some points in mechanic, i think thats where my cybercombat will end up :-)

As for first aid/medicine, it gets replaced by the level of a medkit anyways so it shouldnt be a problem? If not, any suggestions on alternatives?

Yeah, I saw the grenades. I'd suggest Heavy Weapons and use grenade launchers... thrown grenades are not that cool. There are delays and so forth.

You could try out Demolitions. It's not as flashy, but you'll get to do all sorts of stuff with it. It's not directly combat related, but there's still some boom-boom.

Unwired would be a solid purchase for you. There's also the Battle Buddy Basic that's 5 across. Call it something else, and you'll be fine. There are also rules to custom-build commlinks in the main book (I think).

VR hacking's not shunned but it's usually avoided because of cybercombat. People can suffer damage. Whereas AR uses your "meat" IP. It's not bad, but for what you're likely to do, it's good enough. It's perfectly okay to go VR.

Exactly about First Aid / Medicine - no GM likes giving you free points like that. I'll need to take a closer look, not sure if you can even use medkits or not.

Its fine mate, will prob stick an underbarrel grenade launcher on the AR then.
Cannot find that battle buddy in unwired or arsenal, where does it live mate?
Cheers for the assist!

Seconded, there.

Use an MGL-6 (or whatever the Pistol-sized one is) with an Airburst link, and there ya go. Use Flashbangs for non-lethal takedown, and HE grenades (much better than frags, IMO) for when you want some salsa.

The Battle Buddy and Battle Buddy Basic are both in War!, the military Commlinks are the best available
Battle Buddy Basic is signal 5, response 5 and it's the least powerful of the military commlinks, they go up to response 9, signal 8 (for 65,000 and 48F availability)
Battle Buddy Basic is availability 8R so it's available for a starting character

right guys, i've not got War!, and wont be able to get it for a while. the work around i came up with was to get optimisation on all of the rating 6 software so it will work on my system 4 commlink. i've put ergonomic on the stuff that will be running in the background all the time or heavy use (like analyze, stealth, exploit) this should be a reasonable work-around. thoughts?

as for heavy weaps, i ran some dice and it just wasnt worth it. i'll rarely hit, or hit where i want to, so i'll just not bother tbh. we'll have a guns heavy character and a street sam in the group so they can look after that stuff. i'll just toss in the smoke :-)
thanks very much

Well after reading through here, unless I missed something on your first post for this section or someone else didn't notice it. Where is your biofeedback filter program? With out it you only have your will power to defend against black ice, which ATM would put you into the ground faster then telling your team you got this. Your hacking skills for your character are awesome to say the least. But your a single screw up from your heart bursting in your chest.
It's only us That play as Technomancers that have our charisma to work as our biofeedback filters. So due to that he always try to avoid black ice or black ice attacks the best we can.

But yeah that's the only thing that really stuck out to me that unless I missed something, has not already been mentioned by someone else. Other then that your character looks awesome and I'm sure will give the corps hell.
"My name? It was a mistake, when I was just a kid compared to now I wanted it to be as a joke version of a script kitty. With Script as my handle. I misspelt Script from typing it too fast, an well it just stuck. Any real hacker would get the joke behind it, I guess that's why your so confused."

No one seems to have noticed this but Lost Loved One means they are still alive.

From the book you have lost someone dear and must make a WILL + CHA (3) to avoid following any clue to their location.

That's fluff though.
If the character's obsessed with finding out the truth of what happened to his father and still has to make the same rolls to avoid being sidetracked by a possibly-false trail, the fact of whether or not that loved one's still alive shouldn't really matter much.

The two incompetences are way worse imo. If you want to explain it as being freaked out by blood, then replace both by taking Phobia (Blood) instead. (Rules on Augmentation 164)
Ask your GM whether it's common or uncommon... For 'runners it may well be common, so Mild Phobia (Blood) will get you 10BPs, just like both Incompetences combined, but comes across a lot less cheesy.
