I'm returning to the game after a long break. I haven't had much experience with Shadowrun at all, but I've been feeling the itch again. Here's a new character I've been making to refamiliarize myself with the character creation rules. It could really use some proofreading to make sure I haven't made any mistakes. I'm really confused on cyberlimbs in general, for instance, as well as item availability (12 availability is the standard, right?) Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

Why not take some more qualities to flesh the char out a bit more? also, a full arm shouldn't be 1.25 essence unless it's like, secondhand.

Fake Licenses 5 and 6 are above your avail, if you're going standard avail.

Thirdly, you're doing the customized strength wrong. You would need enhancements to get your strength to 5, for instance. Customization just allows your cyberarm to take advantage of your body's natural physique, as opposed to increasing any stats.

It works up to the unaugmented maximum, not up to the actual value, so yes a strength 1 human can take a cyberarm customized for 6 strength and then add strength enhancement 3 and punch someone with 9 str.

The way I'm understanding it, you need 5 strength to take advantage of customized 5 strength. Can you tell me where in the rules it says otherwise, though? Because that saves me a hellton of BP, if I've been doing it wrong all these years.

Corerulebook SR4a Page 343:

and Agility attributes up to the character’s natural attribute maximum

Natural attribute maximum for humans without any exceptional qualities or genetic optimizations is 6. So you can indeed customize for str 6 and enhance to str 9 (it just gets expensive and the availability goes up quite a bit).

Thanks for the feedback. I downloaded Chummer and that helped clear up a lot of misconceptions, but I really appreciate the help.
