Is this a herolab bug or did I just misunderstand this bit about advancement?

I've been playing around with a mage character in herolab and I've noticed that karma costs for increasing attributes go off actual value not modified one. That is I want to increase my magic attribut and get some bioware (I like the sleep 3 hours one and there's a few others I can pick up for less than 1 essence) however herolab calculates the cost in karma as the same whichever way I do it.

Magic 6 to Magic 7 = 35 karma.
Magic 6 to Magic 5 back to magic 6 = 35 karma.
Magic 6 to Magic 3 (3 essence cost) to Magic 4 = 35 karma.

Is that correct is the cost for increasing an attribute meant to be going off the base value that attribute had rather than what your actually increasing it too?

That seems strange, as I'm pretty sure general consensus (and what Aaron said in the FAQ topic) is that your current Magic is what determines the Karma cost, not what it would have been without Essence loss. So raising your Magic from 3 to 4 will cost 20 Karma regardless of what number it might have been at some point.
Question: do you think you could see what happens if you take a character with Magic 2 and make it lose '4' Magic due to Essence loss, then try to raise your Magic using Karma?

Ok minimum magic value of C for magician.

3 Magic - 0 Magic (-3 essence loss) - 1 Magic = 20 karma.
3 Magic - 0 Magic (4 essence loss) - 1 Magic = 20 karma.

in the selection box it say's 0 + 5 karma = 1 but it actually calculates at 20 so I'd say a bug for me to report.

[another] bug if you ask me.

Magic 6 to Magic 7 = 35 karma.
Magic 6 to Magic 5 back to magic 6 = 35 karma.
Magic 6 to Magic 3 (3 essence cost) to Magic 4 = 35 karma.
magic 6 and max magic 6

at step 4 you get exceptional attribute [magic]
= magic 6 and max magic 7

at step 6 you get 3 essence worth of augmentations
= 3 magic and max magic 4

at step 7 (or post-chargen) you spend karma to increase your magic rating by 1
= 4 magic and max magic 4 [this should cost you 20 karma and not 35 karma]

That's what I thought, reported now.

Of course now I'm back to wanting to buy the sleep regulator for 3 hours sleep a night especailly as at higher levels of ware I can add a bunch of other boosts and still only lose 1 magic/essence.
