Hey all,

I’m due to run a scenario tomorrow in the afternoon down at our local roleplay venue; I was told at the last minute that the GM wouldn’t be able to run anything due to fatigue from illness (I’m in the same boat, but he has it worse than me), and if no one steps up to GM anything, we might have to cancel this week’s session for our local group, so I agreed to do a one-shot session using the random run generator and the pre-gens included in the 5th Edition Core Rulebook.

I rolled up some results (fours and fives came up quite a lot, so I wanted some re-opinions for some variety on the backup scenarios), and while I’ve gone into specifics for some of the variables I rolled, I would like to get some advice on things I’m having trouble turning into good plot points.

Main Scenario
The Johnson has arranged for the runners to wait at a bus stop, and to get on a bus to be briefed about their next job.
They are hired by the Mothers of Metahumans for a protection job, targeting a prototype product.
The run gets complicated when the job requires a rare piece of equipment.

I’m having trouble thinking of what to put down for the last three clauses, now, I’m assuming the prototype product would be the thing the runners protect, but what would it be and why would a Policlub want it? Also what rare piece of equipment would the runners need, why would they need it, and how long should they take in a scenario to acquire it? Should the Policlub give it to them on a silver platter?

I was going to have the Humanis Policlub be the antagonists in this scenario and for a reward, I was going to give the players some karma, a small amount of money (a token gesture), a cool piece of equipment (maybe they get to keep the rare item?), and a small favour to call in (another token gesture if the session ends there).

Any advice on what I’ve mentioned would be appreciated, and any citations to the core rulebook pages would be great too.

Also if anyone wants to assist with two backup scenarios that would be most appreciated. I’m only planning to do the one session but it’s quite likely that nobody in my group will have any scenarios they can GM this week.

Backup Scenario 1
The runners go to a meet at a bar, club or restaurant for their next job.
They are hired by a government or government agency for a protection job, targeting a bioengineered lifeform.
The run gets complicated when the target is not what it appears to be (group was lied to).

Backup Scenario 2 (Not planning to run this, but the best laid schemes of mice and men)
The runners go to a meet in a moving vehicle for their next job.
They are hired by a minor corporation for an extraction or insertion targeting an urban building, rural location, or infrastructure object.
The run gets complicated when the target is not what it appears to be (group was lied to).

I'm not sure that I like the idea of this prototype piece of equipment.  Perhaps instead make it a valuable file listing politicians who have ties to Humanis?

This could totally work with a Firefly type vibe.  River Tam was bioengineered but didn't seem to be so.  Maybe they need to escort someone similar to a government facility for "containment."  The runners could wrestle with the idea of locking up a sentient being against its will.

Not sure I like this one too much - it's awfully generic.
Feel free to keep any karma you earned illicitly, it's on us.

you could always try to run a missions game from one of the earlier seasons, or dole out the cash for one of the newer seasons. The shadowrun missions are intended to be run at cons in 4 hour blocks so they would be great for your needs
