Excellent points, you've convinced me that your calculation is indeed a more mechanically sound approach.

Thanks!

I really like "Houserule proposal 2".  The others I'll think about but they seem solid.

These are the house rules I have utilized so far.  they are simple and seem to work well.

Street Cred: instead of adding 1:1 to you social limit you get +1D6 and +1 limit for every 10 full street cred you have where your street cred is a factor.  In this way, even a low charisma character with little social skill but does their job well and doesn't cause trouble will get some recognition for it on the streets (particularly from Mr. Johnson).

Notoriety: Every point of notoriety gets a -1D6 to all social tests where your notoriety might be a factor.  However, +1D6 per notoriety for intimidation tests where physical violence or harm may be involved.  Likewise, those with higher notoriety are likely to be targeted first when things go all wrong.  If a character wants steady, gainful employment, they'll keep their Notoriety low.

When negotiating, I usually use the averages of street cred and notoriety of the group.

Public Awareness: This is a dice pool modifier to see if individuals within the specified categories have heard of you.  It doesn't mean they know who YOU are but, they may have heard of you.  In the comics, everyone knows Batman and Spiderman but very few actually know WHO they are.  Of course, if you run around with your face uncovered during Shadowruns into corporate facilities then everyone will likely also know who YOU are as well as your street name.  Then, you will have bigger things to worry about...such as Renraku HTR security teams knocking on your door (they knock with grenades by the way).
