A Datajack provides a rating 1 noise reduction if it's wirelessly active. How should I apply this? Does it apply to all my gear and more importantly, does it apply to itself as well? So, if I had a standard grade Datajack would it's noise reduction allow me to use it's functionality in a noise 3 zone, as well as all my other gear with Device Rating 2?

It's effect would apply to anything that is used through it. So plug your deck/'link into the jack and slave the gear to the former. At least that's how I would do it. And reducing noise to 2 would not suffice for device rating 2.

Incorrect, Lucean, at least according to Aaron. See the following for reasoning behind my response:

As per Aaron's comments, Noise Reduction is an abstract measure that is applied per person(a), and as such cannot be per device. I choose to think of the datajack allowing other devices in the users PAN to benefit from the filtered signals it receives, especially since you can apparently take multiple datajacks and stack the benefits.

I understand the reasoning behind it based on how the rules are written Herr Brackhaus...but when I try to think of it logically (which I shouldn't as this is a game), I can't get my head around how the datjack provides noise reduction to anything other than what's its plugged into.

Well I have an explanation

Imagine the datajack operating as a repeater for wireless signals that way it supports all devices that belong to the same owner as the datajack.

I think of it as that the data jack is just translating the simsense data more clearly. The noise is still literally the same, but while the wireless is on the datajack, to you the data appears clearer and is cleaned up.

Kind of like how some cameras add pixels to make images look clearer even though that data is totally made up.
