I'm just wondering could I classify the upper level lifestyles (high and luxury) as millionaire and billionaire?

I would think luxuy would work as a low level millionaire, but not more than that.

That sounds about right.

Think about it this way.

Street: Well ... Street level.
Squatter: No job; living in a coffin motel or squatting whatever you can find.
Low: Fry cook/low-end job
Middle: This is the average lifestyle of the wageslave. Almost anyone employed by the corps who isn't in "poor" conditions are going to be Middle.
High: Management/Executives in corps. Crime bosses; etc. Possibly government employees.
Luxury: Sim stars, top of corps, government officials (ambassadors, presidents, etc.) - Millionaires, most likely.
Luxury+: Anyone who has permanent Luxury lifestyle(s) are billionaires ... and probably corp owners and/or dragons.

Billionaire's lifestyle is way out of the player's limits. Assuming you did one 50,000 nuyen run a month (which is fairly high), that's only 600,000 nuyen per year. Not even a Millionaire, let alone Billionaire. Even at 150,000 nuyen a run, that's only 1.8 million nuyen per year. Taking Luxury lifestyle out of it; that's only 800,000 nuyen left a year. Sure, it's a lot, but Luxury lifestyle is expensive.

It would leave 600,000 nuyen. 12 months in a year, remember.

Not impossible though, take 5 karma trust fund middle lifestyle and you can save that. Live on it and earn 600k a year, put away say 1/3 that's 200k saved a year. Luxury is only 1 million for permanent which is 5 years saving for a permanent billionaires lifestyle. Hard to do sure but possible especially for those people who apparently have 3k karma characters I have something to aim for.

I have to say I get the feeling that a few exceptions aside the costs of living in shadowrun are actually a lot lower than today's world. Laying aside the whole currency being the yen which I see as less than a dollar there's the 1 yen purchase list in run faster. Soy burger/taco/hotdog, four packs of instant ramen etc.

Anyway a day job equates to a middle lifestyle so probably 40-60k with high being 120kish then. I can work with this.

EDIT
IT does raise the question though how much differenence there is between living a lifestyle for a month and having it purchased permanently.

Im O ( don't forget SR is a Dystopia ;) ):
Low Lifestyle is what is considered nowadays Middle Class.Todays Middle Class is extinct in SR
average Wageslaves are happy if they can achieve Low Lifestyle (converted it's 4000 $ a Month for that Style ! )

Middle Lifestyle ( You need 5.000 ¥ which is the Equivalent of 10.000 $ a Month  IIRC) is considered to be the Upperclass of Today
High Class Lifestyle is for the  rich People(not the Super rich ). Celebrities and Film/Music Starlets that can afford 20.000 $ a Month or more
and Luxury is for the real Millionaires

What about my analysis indicated that I forgot SR was a dystopia?

The average wageslave does, in fact, get a Middle lifestyle. Assuming the 15 Karma level Day Job, since we know wageslaves are worked as many hours as possible, they get 5,000 nuyen a month. That is a Middle lifestyle. It's also only a 40-hour workweek, which is fairly standard (it varies from job to job, but it's usually pretty close for employees).

You have to remember that Lifestyle is not just a house, apartment, or whatever. It's entertainment, comfort, clothes, utilities and more. The average wageslave has no need to buy anything outside of that.

There are celebrities and Sim stars who make literally millions or billions of dollars. Eventually, they'd build up enough to permanently own a Luxury lifestyle. I'm not saying every celebrity is like that, but the really popular and successful ones (aka, the ones that people remember and know about) most certainly can.

Yep take fame and you multiple your job incomes. Global fame means your earning 600,000 a year if your working 50 hours a week or 288,000 a year if your working 25 hours a week.

Hmmm 50 hour week earning 600k or 25 hour week earning 288k tough decision.
