How easy is bioware to spot.

Cyberware I guess is pretty obvious but how do authorities notice if a person is Bioware enhanced ?

I just wondered as bioware is restricted so how is this restriction policed. I am very new to shadowrun and will be starting my very first run this Sunday evening and it a question I have been asked a few times.

My first thought was that RIFIDs are likely implanted in them but I just don't know if there is another obvious identifier that I am missing.

Depends on what sensors any given security force is using. Runners are more likely to strip / burn RFID tags they don't want found, but if they don't you can hang them on it. (and if they don't have a Tag Eraser, I want to know why ...)

Casual searches, quick X-ray scans and the like cannot discern the difference between an augmented organ and the original. Additional glands and organs, however, can be detected by detailed examination of MRIs or X-rays. Security systems at very high levels employ medical scanners capable of detecting even cultured bioware; fortunately, the cost of these systems prevents them from being widespread.

Some of it can be seen by the eye such as Troll Eyes, Chloroplast Skin, Hand & Foot Webbing, or other things that appear on the outside.

The majority of it is harder to notice.  More then likely security will not shell out the huge cost for a scanner that can detect them.  This means a lot of bioware will be unnoticed until the security has reason to know they're augmented already, like observing extra-human feats.  By this time they likely have the guns drawn, but if you don't want to shoot you can have them give the characters biopsies, those would reveal bioware.

There are a few other occasions where bioware might show up on a scan.  Like for instance Tailored Pheromones could reasonably show up on a chem-sniffer, provided the sniffer was set to detect it.

Haha, that too.  Totally forgot about that one.  Probably the easiest way to do it.

Barring medical examinations, it's pretty much the only way for the non-obvious bioware modifications.  And, frankly, even the obvious ones are pretty standardized depending on where you are in the Shadowrun World.

No one would think twice about Cat's Eyes in Seattle, where you might have got it due to the Year of the Comet or from the local "Eye-Luv-U" shop in the mall that specializes in Cyberoptics and Bioware Replacement Eyes.

Wasn't there something about Bioware giving off more heat?

Some, maybe.  But they'd still be within the Metahuman Norm.  Remember, 37C is only an average, some people run quite hot without any modifications.

Great responses, thanks.

My first post and I feel at home already.  ;D

So ive GM'd for year with lots of other games (Earthdawn, D&D, Vampire TM, SLA industries mostly) so if you have any helpful tips for a first time Shadowruning GM then toss em my way.

I actually run cool.  My average body temp is 97 F or so.  However, I throw heat off like an oven (probably why my temp is lower) so infrared probably "sees" me better.

Orthoskin, or just about any skin mod, is probably a lot more noticeable.  And don't forget that body mods are all the rage in the 6th world.  For that matter, RL modification is getting more and more prevalent.  I imagine by the 2070's, our own world will have some crazy mods going on (cat's eyes probably will be popular there, too).
There is no overkill.

Only "Open fire" and "I need to reload."
