You can pay for a pilot upgrade to 4, get the designer quality for a boost to 5 and then use the optimisation boost to 6 iirc

P.156 Only AIs with the Pilot Origins quality may use autosofts in place of active skills, they also use their Depth in place of the Pilot rating of vehi-cles/drones they are running on.
