I always take these designs with a grain of salt, though, as the guy behind it is a graphic designer and not an engineer. I mean, I come up with really cool designs myself all the damn time*, but that doesn't mean they'd actually WORK.

It's pretty, but there's no "meat" behind it.

If it was an engineering team that was announcing they got a small wing-in-ground-effect system to work, then I'll get more excited.

I completely understand where you're coming from, but let's face it, these are the designs used from Cold-War tech.

And these are some of the other ones (including hydrofoils, as a combination of the two would be pretty cool!)
- Chinese XTW-4
- Personal WIG plus Hovercraft... Wheeee!
- Catamaran/Hydrofoil.... the line just keeps getting blurrier...
- Boeing PHM Missile Cruiser... nice big Hydrofoil to scare the BEJEESUS out of people
- Sailboat Hydrofoil... again, just for a little fun
