Personality/background
Sylvia was born in Havana, Caribbean League, as daughter of a wage mage and an adept officer in the Caribbean army.  As both her parents were awakened, she and later her two younger brothers were tested as well.  As it turned out only she was awakened, which meant even more tests to see how exactly.  This was not exactly the kind of thing an inquisitive 6 year old wanted to do and it became an almost continuous battle between Sylvia and the mages of both her mother’s company and the army.  She was placed in a special school program for awakened in order to improve on their talents and she did very well there.  In fact, the teachers only needed to explain things once and she could retain them perfectly.  She was also very good with languages, mastering them with ease.

When she hit puberty, she started to think she was ugly and it was at this point she discovered she could change some of her facial features, hair and skin colour and even her voice.  With some of her girlfriends she started using these powers to play tricks on boys.  Halfway through an evening, she would switch with her friend and try to keep the conversation going, even though she didn’t know what was said before.  It was mostly harmless fun, but she got caught a couple of times and due to this a new player entered: the intelligence service of the Caribbean League.  People who could change their appearance and who could retain anything they had seen or heard were not all that common but very useful, so they wanted to recruit her.

At first she resisted as she wanted to go to the army like her father, but it became quickly clear that she wasn’t a soldier.  After she became the only one in the history of the military who managed to jam a tank gun and shoot a fellow cadet standing behind her with a heavy machine gun (luckily with paintball rounds), they made it clear to her that she wouldn’t graduate and maybe to accept the intelligence offer.  This she did and she has never regretted it.  With the intelligence service she blossomed and started to develop her powers in a more structured way.  She also learned unarmed combat to be able to defend herself in a spot where she couldn’t take weapons.  It quickly became clear she was better unarmed than with guns and she even learned a power to dispose of people quickly in a way that reminded one of her teachers, an old man who was born right before the awakening in 2012, of the Vulcan nerve pinch he had seen in some old movies.

In 2063, the now 19-year old Sylvia went on her first mission, getting into the offices of a smaller Japanese corporation to get a couple of chips.  After a stake-out of the corporation, she was able to impersonate one of the employees and get in that way.  It was during this operation that all of a sudden she was able to see people’s auras.  It was very confusing at first and while she managed to complete the mission she did almost get caught a couple of times.  When she told what happened during the debriefing the agency people immediately recognised that she was able to astrally perceive.  As this was quite useful, they arranged for some lessons from other adepts who could do the same thing.

One year later, in 2064, she was in the UCAS for her first operation on foreign soil, when the crash hit.  The Caribbean Information Agency (CIA) was hit hard and lost almost all personal data.  On top of that, she also lost her SIN data, like so many in the Caribbean League.  Having no other options at that moment, she struck out on her own (taking with her all the equipment they had given her for this mission), using her skills to operate in the shadows all over North America and from time to time abroad.  This was a tough time and at one point she was tempted to try a BTL (with trodes of course, as she never had a DNI implant).  She didn’t know how it was programmed or if there was something with her brain that reacted with the chip, but luckily she had her docwagen contract (under one of her fake names) as she spent the following two weeks in hospital.  When she got out, her first order of business was to track the gang that had sold her the thing and make them pay.  Also also made a pact with herself to never try drugs or BTLs anymore.

Near the end of 2065 she got news that her parents had been killed in a plane crash.  It was the first time since the crash that she was back in the Caribbean League and she was amazed on how much rebuilding there still was to do.  This left her with the care of her two younger brothers (12 and 15 at the time), who had also become SINless during the crash (as everybody in her family).  She smuggled them to the CAS and from there to the UCAS to live with her instead of going into an orphanage.

There she continued running the shadows and in 2066 she did her first AAA-corp job.  To get in using her impersonation trick, she needed good documents which could withstand any scrutiny.  One of the team members knew someone who could do document forgeries and indeed, the run went without a problem.  Since that time Sylvia always went to her for any document forgery she needed and while she always paid, they got to know each other a bit better.   And if she manages to get her hands on some types of documents (like ID badges and such) she provides her with them or a copy so she can make her forgeries better.

A couple of months later Sylvia and her group needed to get into a building.  Since one of the electric companies was working in front of the building, she put on the charm on the work supervisor there and she managed to get the group in by a hole they had made.  As it turned out, she and this supervisor both liked classical music and they went together to some concerts a couple of times.  They even had a short relationship and while it has ended, they still remain friends.

In 2069, Christine Baynard brought her into contact with a mafia lieutenant who had lost some of the mob’s property to a Yakuza raid.  Not wanting to alert his superiors, he hired her to get the property back, a small but valuable case.  She managed to get the case and the only guard she had to take out she did with her nerve strike and a shot of Lael.  The lieutenant was glad he got the valuables back discreetly and hired her a couple of times, while she managed to get some hard to get items (like replacements for the gear she had taken from the CIA) and modifications to her car through him and his contacts.

Life was going good until early 2070 when her oldest brother, now 20 and a student at the university, went missing.  One night he didn’t come back home and all commcalls went unanswered.  As going to the Star was not an option for a SINless, she tried to find him herself, even hiring other runners to try to get him back, but to no avail.  From all the clues she had gathered, an incomplete picture started to form.  She now thinks he had become a technomancer and was taken by a corporation.  Now the only thing she needs to find is which one and then turn their research facilities upside down.  For now she keeps a close eye on her other brother who still lives with her.  He recently started out with the gang which controls their neighbourhood.  While they aren’t the nicest people around, as long as you pay them they do protect you.  She even helped them out a couple of times by infiltrating into other gang’s HQs and getting data to them.  While it is difficult living as a young woman with a younger brother, the fact that she was useful to the local gang and also had displayed a good grasp of unarmed combat made that they left her alone.  Also the fact that her brother was an initiate in the gang gave her some protection.

What kind of mind reading magic do you use, please tell me?
No. Dont.
Wait for the run, you will see
There is one thing abou your skills: since you dont have Killing hands nor weapon focus, you are not able to fight in astral, so your Astral combat skill is quite useless...I would also recomend to give up Influence skill group and take Con instead - Group with 1 rating is too low to do any real work, it is 5 dices for you and that means maybe 1 hit statisticaly...not effective in most situations. In fact, way you`ve described you use your charisma linked skills in your backgrond story is pretty much Con.

I would also reconsider one more time if Computers and Hardware skills are both usefull for your purposes, I think for purposes of B&E hardware is enought...but that is your call

I would recomend to take Gymnastics instead the dodge. You can use it the same way and it is more universal..Also, Climbing may be usefull for specialist like you.

EDIT: Also...you have two commlinks? I can see why, just if it isnt a mistake...

Ill also need more info on your current status quo? Living in Auburn aint easy for young girl with pubertal rother (temperament latino, who will likely to become member of some local gang, if it doesnt happen yet. I will reconsider this.)

@Maarten: it's a rework of it, a slum version without the trust fund and the SIN.  I've also modificed the skills and adept powers a bit.

@sichr:
-no mind reading magic
-con is indeed imporant, I'll have a look at it.
-computer is used to do a lot of regular matrix actions, which might be useful.  I consider that most characters in 2070 have it at 1 just because they learned how to handle a 'link at school.
-gymnastics it will be, and I'll try to put climbing on it as well.
-I always take two commlinks.  One for everyday living, and one runner commlink (in fact, my hacker character in tabletop has 5, although she doesn't take all of them with her all the time).

-I'll also think a bit on the current situation.  It won't be easy for her, that's for sure, but if it were easy, she wouldn't be living there.  I'll come back on that (and the other things above).

Computer + edit is used to program Latex face mask.
If you dont have a skill, you default it from program rating = Edit -1. The same think like that you can use your browser without datasearch skill.
For common operations, using your comlink and do some basic operations, you dont need to buy the active skill, (see SRA p. 227)
Whenever you deal with security devices, such as maglocks etc, you use Hardware skill.

For this influence group: There is Leadership, Etiquete, Negotiation and Con in that group. When Im looking at your bio, that every use of influence mentioned is Con. When dealing with suspicious guards, you dont have to have r1 leadership, negotiation and Etiquete. You need Con at minimal rating 2 to negate the basic negative dicepool modifiers (-1 suspicious (corp guard on duty at least -2, for me this differs with professionality rating), -1 result is anying to NPC(in fact, the result for the guard on duty will varry between -3 to - 5)

Etiquete is always handy when doing legwork, that is for true. You also have datasearch skill. that is another source of informations. More hits = more specific informations, those two sources are not complimentary (hits dont add).

Truth is, that from your bio I would imagine that she is capable of B&E even on corporate turf. In numbers, you have too much r1 skills, too spread to make a real hit. Some of those skills may be defaulted, when you decide that you need them (if you have a proper Attribute/Program rating)

But, that is simply my impression, you should have another opinion and it is your character, dont take me too hard...

It's always good to hear an outside opinion.  I always have this urge to take as many skills as possible, to cover all angles, but one should specialise a bit.  I've done some extra mods.  I've taken CON at 2 with specialisation in Impersonating.  That gives me 4 dice on that one, and still 2 on all other ways.  And with the trustworthy positive quality I get another +2 on all those skills (when I meet the guard it's for the first time, so it applies).  Computer I'm going to keep, as programming those nanopastes is important.  I've reread astral combat and astrally perceiving adepts can do it.   Against dual-natured critters you can use your normal combat stats, but against astral critters you need the astral combat skill (which you can't default on) so I'm going to keep that as well.  Datasearch I'll default on (I have browse at 4 and I can buy an agent later to do this for me).  I've added in climbing (at 1, but with climbing gear and gecko tape gloves you should get some bonusses).  Hardware is now at 3 and with all my B&E gear I should be able to get something done there.

I'll think some more about the background and then update the character.

About that astral combat: Yes, you sould do it, but you are not able do any damage uless you poses killing hands, critical strike or weapon focus...
But I need to reread this, maybe this rule is outdated...

The way I understood it is that with the skill I can roll (astral combat+willpower) and do damage of charisma/2 (round up) in stun or physical (whichever I decide, see p193 of the SR4A).  Against things like mages and such it will be enough.  Spirits of course have immunity to normal weapons and I won't be able to do much damage against those without a weapon focus, except when I do the 'attack of the will' as described in Street Magic p94.  While it won't do much against a big spirit, it will be enough against watchers and things like it.  I'm not saying that I'm good in it, but without a full mage, this is all we have for astral combat, assensing and tracking.  It's also something she has only received rudimentary training in.

there is this:
Only  astral forms can slow or afect another astral form.

In Astral projection chapter (p. 193, SRA)

Well this rule (that you cannot affect astral with your bare hands even while Astraly perceiving) have been here since 2nd edition, and it may had changed. Im currious about that also so I`ve created thread for this
http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=3258.0

we should get more opinions and then decide. hold on ;)
