Hello

I am new to shadowrun and I am working on a dwarf riger.  I am in the prosses of caracter creation and I stumbled upon the commlink rules, which I find very confusing.  Can someone help me make a good rigger commlink and/or explain the rules around it.

you want as high a signal commlink as possible for rigging, you need to be able to broadcast your signal a long way to reach flying drones and such. a high response is good too for running lots of programs.
get the best OS you can too.

rules for rigging (basic):
you can "jump into" drones, effectively putting your brain into its body. to do this, you need a control rig implant (cyberware) and some method of getting data from that implant to the commlink (trodes or datajack).
you can also just issue commands to the drone and let the onboard pilot figure out what to do, for this you just need a good command program on your commlink and some method of input (AR gloves, trodes or datajack).
all the data has to go through your commlink, which is your primary communication tool with the world.
you'll need your main commlink up and running in hidden mode (with all your R and F rated software on it) and a dummy (cheap) commlink with a fake SIN on it broadcasting normally so you dont alert the police/random security stops.

as for software to do the rigging work:
you'll need a good level of ECCM (to counter jamming) a good level of Command program (to issue commands to drones if you are not jumping in).
i would take as good a level of firewall as you can get to deter hackers, and you also want a decent encryption package on there too to make it hard for people to hack into your network.
i would also get a mid rating agent to sit on your commlink node with an equal rating attack program. this can buy you time to re-call/power off drones before they get hacked and turned against you. (the agent does the cybercombat on your behalf)
you also need a really good analyze program on there, this can pick up dodgy traffic on your network and will alert you to intrusion attempts.
aside from software, you'll need trodes or a datajack + sim module to get into VR if you want to jump into your drones as i understand it.
these are minimum spec really, you might want to invest in a bit of other stuff too, but i'll leave that to the experts!
hope that helps!
