Hey guys, was hoping for some critique of my adventuring salish-shidhe para zoologist. Basically she is a college professor teaching about and researching critters. Research and teaches part time at a university at the SSC enclave in Seattle, represented by her 20 hour day job and trust fund as a research grant. Very much inspired by Indiana Jones, Croft, Atomic Robo and the like. Any suggestions for things I may of missed?

First impression is way too many emphases at chargen. You shouldn't need them yet. You're also quite low on dice pools and logic which hurts the side of your character that isn't Adventure.

Bump up your logic, get a Mnemonic Enhancer, Cerebral Booster and a partial cyberlimb with a rating 2 nanohive & cortical nanites. (the int / log ones) That should get you around another 6 dice. You could take that out of close combat and muscle augmentation.

On that note; way too many weapons for all of them to be useful. Three autos, bone lacing, shock gloves (which ignore your strength), knives and a bow? Pick one type of melee and one gun or bow.
I recommend the shock gloves, for touch attacks, and the bow for variety. You could work in a martial art to go with the gloves, and use the iaijutsu maneuver to draw and fire arrows with one action.

(removing automatics, blades & clubs frees up a lot of bp to spread around and make those two good, too)

You also don't have a commlink. I'd recommend the Shiawase Executive Silverline cybersuite. (attention coprocessor 3, commlink, datajack, imagelink & math SPU, for under 30,000 nuyen, plus commlink costs)

Any nuyen left over can go into Betel, Plastic Restraints, and fake SINs - but I'd save the last 1200 for when you roll your lifestyle nuyen. (which is what you start with)

Thanks for the info. Forgetting the commlink , the Fake SIN's and such was complete derp on my part. Hrm, you are probably right with the too much focus on Adventure and not enough on Int and Logic. Thanks, given me a lot to look into. Hadn't even considered the cyberarm bit.

Looks like you've already done a substantial amount of Running with this character (based off of your 260 BP in stats, ~200 BP in skills, 100s of thousands of Y in gear and 7 Karma pool), or maybe she's a new build after a previous PC died, or you're jumping in as a new player to an advanced campaign?

Anyway, your character is spread super-thin. She's really bad at a lot of crap - some crap that it sounds like she's supposed to be good at (Animal Handling, Training) - and just okay at everything else. Is this a single player campaign? Why are you trying to do everything? Maybe this is just a difference in tables and/or playstyles - but you basically have two crappy starting characters smashed into one here - you don't do anything at a level of what I would consider "good" from a mechanical perspective (i.e. 15+ dicepool) - which please note is not related to the fluff perspective. And with as much Karma as you have to build this character it's really a travesty. Aside from telling you that you have way too many offensive skills, it's hard to know where to begin because it's hard to tell what you are trying to accomplish with this character... Sorry if that sounded harsh, but man, I'm just imagining what I would do if I had a character to build with these kinds of resources.

I think you're doing Securtech PPP wrong. I think the best armor you can get legitimately get from PPP is 2/4, in other words if you slap on all of the individual pieces as you have, you have the "Ensemble" - which is 2/4. You can combine the piecemeal pieces in various configurations to get 0/1, 0/2, 0/3, 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, but beyond that what you have is the Ensemble. This is my (and my tables) interpretation, and it makes logical sense, maybe get some other people's input - especially your GMs if you don't agree.

Also, I'm assuming you know you can't wear all or even half the armor you have at once, without being massively encumbered - and heck maybe that's why you have each of the piecemeal pieces - to fill in holes with whatever armor configuration your going with?

You have Vision Magnification on both your contacts and glasses... didn't know if this is intentional, but you may want Flare Comp somewhere.

The arm & leg casings count for 1/1 (as opposed to 0/2) when worn together, otherwise I don't see why it matters what you call the whole enchilada?

I'm not arguing about what to call it, I'm using the PPP "Ensemble" as reference to demonstrate that you can't combine all the pieces to get a 1/6. Do you think you can achieve a greater than 2/4 using PPP (not counting helmet)?

Nah nah, not harsh at all. I'm the one that asked for a critique. Not everything is worn at once, changed as needed or as the situation dictates. I've definitely shifted her more towards Logic and Int. It was a 750 Karma build + some extras for a game that has already started. Did the nanohive thing somebody else was pointing out and that really helped a lot to bump up my Logic and Int.

My group is a Sniper type, a Mage and a Face. I was playing the Hacker but the matrix rules were driving me crazy and it was leading to a lot of "And now we pause so the hacker can do the hacker minigame." thing which was not fun.

You have several skills that are 10 or higher, and this means that you are good at these skills. The skills you have ranks in that are less than 10, well it's either room to grow further or areas to trim if desired.

The dice pool that emsquared calls "good", I call Very Good. There have been times when I've built characters with more, but with the exception of one (or two if you count a PbP game that died) they've all been in the category of "mental exercise and have not seen play.

It's a valid opinion, but in the event of circumstances that aren't beneficial and / or wound penalties, a number of skills that aren't related to shooting things or avoiding being shot at get quite low. Expecting to use them in adventurous situations could be some ways off.

I'm assuming you did in fact read my post, and that was a rhetorical question.

That's why I said the 'either or'. :)
