Willpower (5) + Charisma (3) (8d6.hits(5)=4)

"Shit..." Joel swore quietly as he saw the pictures. "Why did I tempt fate?" He throttled the feeling of rising panic in him. There was no time for that right now.

Oh fuck. We've got to get out of here, right now!
Matt jumps to his feet, readies his taser and heads to the door.
He issues the directions to his drone pilot, commanding it to move ahead and scan for contacts, again dumping its sensor feed into his Image link.

Composure Test: WIL 4 + CHR 2 - Wounded 1 = 5 (5d6.hits(5)=2)

I soulda been a fuckin' cop...

"Aiight fellas, let's get the fuck out of here and to those sewers while we still can."

Leroy smacked Matt's extended hand which he had forgotten was still extended as he looked on in disbelief at the tridcast.   He hoped this would snap Matt out of it.

"Les'go, pappy, bandaids n' shit'll have to wait until we get outta hear.  No time."

Leroy headed out for the door and peeked around into the hallway.

"Soon as we get out I hope one of ya'll gunslingas got a place where we can lay low for a while... We can't go home yet.  They know who we are."

Even Leroy almost bought into his tough exterior.  The reality of the situation began to sink in slowly.

Not sure if I'm gonna puke or shit myself...

Miko looked at the screen with disbelief.  She had helped KE and this was how they repaid her.  Well, her job she could forget at the moment.  She turned to the techie.
"Can you turn off the cameras in this building," she asked, "it's best if we're not seen to leave.  And we have to find out who's really behind this.  It's the only way to clear our names, as the Errants won't look any further."

composure test.

not bad, 4 hits on 6 dice.

I'd love to miko, but i'm a pilot, not a hacker. Come on, we've gotta move!

As you moved out of the room, Matt checked the route the system drew for you. It was the most direct route and of course, as the day's luck went, it led right back to the main areas of the mall. Back among the dead. Dread and a feeling of urgency battled inside you for a moment but you found that the previous hour steeled your souls somewhat, so you found it in you to be able decide if you wanted to look for a different, longer route, or take the one over the fallen.

"Try yo best not to disturb the dead.  This is a graveyard.  We're on hallowed ground now."

Leroy shot a look over to Joel, letting him know that although he was mundane, he wasn't completely ignorant in the matters of spirits or of respecting the dead.

"Let's go around hurr..." Leroy said as he pointed out a longer route around the dead.

And although we're probably immune to whatever this shit is, it won't hurt not to tempt fate...

Joel sighed. "If only... At the moment this place is more polluted by all the death. A hallowed ground I could handle, a domain of death and suffering I cannot. The mages will have a bit of work ahead of them to cleanse the Astral plane around here." He shrugged."Respecting the fallen is one good reason, although I'd recommend it more for avoiding whatever is feeding on the dying remnants of emotion. The other good reason for a longer route is to better avoid running into any investigators. Possibly."

He looked over at Matt. "Matt! How clear is the entrance hall?"

While Miko couldn't see that astral, she could agree with Joel.  The Shinto she was taught during childhood said that one had to honour ones ancestors.  And a lot of ancestor spirits had been created here.  In fact, due to the violent death of all of those, she wouldn't be surprised if this place would end up haunted by deceased who turned into Gaki or even worse, like Oni.

"Let's take the way around them," she said to the others, "it would be disrespectful to disturb their spirits and I'd rather not be the cause of them becoming Gaki or something like that."

Matt checked the drone' sensor report as it shot through the main entrance hall.
Now was not the time to dally and Matt just wanted to put as much distance between him and his likely execution. The long way was extra time they had to hunt them down, the short way was exposed. What a shitty choice.

--Matt--
The drone still didn’t report any contacts in the hall, at least not as far as it went. The bodies lay there, unmoving, undisturbed. The way was clear.

--others--
While you agreed that it would be unwise to disturb the dead, it seemed Matt was hesitating. His drone still left the corridor the way you came in, through the maintenance access door, to the main halls.

Tempted by the immediacy of the short route, Matt's fight or flight kicked in. His legs ached to burst into a run, to cover the distance and get the hell out of dodge ASAP.
Guys, this way is clear, and a stack of time quicker. Look, if we run it we'll be across before the spirits even know we're there. We don't have much time, let's move!

"I guess we better go after him before he hurts himself," Jade sighed, before lumbering after Matt.

Fuck that...

Leroy shook his head.  He cared more about his own skin than a stranger's at this point.  He looked down to his medkit and reminded himself that he didn't know what had been deployed on these people.  Better safe than sorry.

He continued along the long way.

You just started in the other direction when the thought hit home. You didn't even know the short route, it was on the comm of Matt. You remembered that he showed only a single route on the screen in the room. So it was either following him or going back to the staff room and taking your time looking for alternate routes that would avoid the main areas as much as possible.
