Mutumbo took his usual place in the car next to Ultra. After a few minutes he noticed that he just stared out the window dejectedly, barely watchnig the surroundings.
OFF: i assumed that by the time we end packing gear, the 30-minutes duration of the drug is about to end. I will suffer disorientation and depression for the same amount of time.

You rush through the process of tearing down the camp, throwing the gear into the back of the gopher in a bit of a disarray, tying it down as best you can in a way that seems like it should hold.

Everyone piles into the vehicles, Alzmer having to be hunted down and found by Frenchy as he had wandered off to the side during the flurry of tearing down the camp. With a quick scan to see if they had missed anything obvious, the two vehicles set off back down the mine access road and then off into the brush.

After racing through the scrub for about ten minutes to put some distance between them and the mine, the pace slows. Proceeding more cautiously, the runners seek out a suitable campsite. Eventually, they settle in on a low rise with a rocky top that offers some cover from below in the form of a few rocks. Parking the vehicles as best they can to avoid detection, you shut down the engines and listen for a moment to try and hear any noise that may have been hidden behind their rumbling.

Mlinzi exited the Gopher and switched her sight to the Astral plane, scanning the area for any hidden threats. Once assured that they were clear of threats from that vector, the elf returned her senses to the physical realm. Hoping the spirits would still grant her a boon, she called on them to grant her the ability to detect life. Without any kind of resistance, her senses were flooded with information and the shaman smiled to herself, her boon granted. It was hard to describe the new sense. For lack of a better term, it was a heightened instinct similar to the preternatural cognition that many animals displayed; knowing with great efficiency where their fellow participants in the food chain were physical located.

Mlinzi circled their ersatz camp site trying to pick out any potential dangers with her new sense. Once satisfied the area was clear of danger, she headed over to Ultra. "I would guess we're not going to attempt to make camp at this point. We could try to clear out some space in the bed of the Gopher two could sleep there and another two in the cab of the Nomad? That should cover everyone if we leave at least one person on watch at all times. It would keep us off the ground and away from dangerous insects and snakes." She looked over at Mwindaji who looked totally out of it.

Detect Life (F5): Spellcasting (5) + Magic (4) Resist Drain (2P): Willpower (5) + Charisma (8) (9d6.hits(5)=4, 13d6.hits(5)=5)
4 hits, 20 meter sense (ForceXMAG), Opposed w/WIL+LOG, No Drain

Given the presence of the snake, Mlinzi decided to call on Wawindaji for assistance.

Great Wawindaji, I beg your aid. We will be resting here tonight along with the metal beasts. The thoughtless destructiveness of the metal beasts is well known and I fear for the lives of the creatures of the wild. Please watch over our campsite and keep away both predators and the envenomed. Prey will not attract the notice of my felllow two-legs or our metal beasts.

With a burst of power, Wawindaji appeared on the astral plane and slowly faded into physical existence. Your favor is granted, roho rafiki. The mysterious looking cryptid hopped on top of one of the rocks and took up a silent vigil.

"Wawindaji should protect us from dangerous animals and vice versa. Should we set-up watches?"

Summoning (F2) Spirit of Beasts: Summoning (5) + Magic (4) + Specialization (2) = 11d6.hits(5)=4
Resistance Test: Force (2) = 2d6.hits(5)=0
Drain Resistance: Willpower (5) + Charisma (8) = 13d6.hits(5)=4

4 net hits, capped at 2 due to force. No hits on resistance test. No drain

”Watches are a good idea, but they shouldn’t sit in the car.” Mutumbo seemed to get back into the game, although his voice was still stressed and he sounded more tired than the others. ”It isn’t good to obstruct their fields of vision more than necessary. Sleeping in the cars sounds better right now than anything else, although I hate the idea. I can take care of the first watch, I have to cool down anyway. I will wake the next volunteer in a few hours.
“Question. Anybody who doesn’t have the means to see in low-light conditions? Everybody has flashlights? I will place a micro-flare launcher on the hood of the Gopher, if anything gets dangerously near, don’t hesitate to use it.”

Ultra landed the drone and plugged it in the charging rig.
sounds good. I'll take second watch then
Ultra dropped the drivers seat back as low as it could go and grabbed the microfiber blanket out of his survival kit.
It was gonna be a long night...

"I can take the last watch bringing us to dawn. That way I will be awake for when Wawindaji departs." Mlinzi said. She was about to affirm to Mwindaji that she could see in the dark when Frenchy interjected.

"I ain't tired at all, mes amies. I can cover all of the shifts, if need be, but wouldn't mind a second pair of eyes at times," the little man said.

Mlinzi moved to the Gopher and removed a few items from the back, setting them on the ground next to the truck. She pushed a few other things around inside the bed of the truck making a space for her to sleep. Grabbing her blanket from her kit, the elf laid down and tried to get what little sleep she could.

The opening of the Gopher door and the rush of cool night air startled Ultra out of a shallow sleep.
A quiet gesture was all he needed to see to know it was his turn on watch. Groggily he climbed out of the cab and unplugged the drone off its charging rig before climbing back into the warmth of the cab.
He knew he'd need something a bit punchy to keep his attention over the next couple of hours, so jacked into his deck and felt the rush of hot sim tingling over his senses.
Initiating control over the roto-drone, he took to the air and swept a patrol route out over and around the team's impromptu campsite.

drone is loaded with:
-Vision Mag
-Lowlight
-Vision enhance 1
and also has microphone + motion sensor.
please consider him as actively looking for contacts,
limit is 5 on perception tests; sensor 3, VR 2

Int 4, e.war 4, image enhance 1, hot sim +2 for 11 total dice for perceiving through sensors.
and an amazing roll to get us started lol:
11d6.hits(5)=6

Deck load out:
5(6) DP, 4 Firewall, 4(5) sleaze, 2 attack
>Virtual machine- Toolbox
                              - Configurator
>Signal scrub (-2 noise)
>Sneak
will run silent if possible

Through the wandering drone, you pick up the signs of a jeep patrol only a few kilometers off.

Mutumbo learned to be a light sleeper while out in the wilds, so he woke up immediately. He got out of the car and checked and reloaded his gun. He checked the surroundings for a suitable sniper position.
@Reminder: what are my modifiers for a perception test this time of the night, for the surrounding area? I have both low-light and thermo.
Mlinzi had set her commlink to silent-vibrate mode. Upon receiving Ultra's warning, she opened her eyes and thumbed  the commlink's display, reading the warning silently. She scanned the camp. noticing Mwindaji and Frenchy already alert and scanning the area. Climbing down from the bed of the Gopher, she grabbed her bow and secured her goggles to her forehead.

Mentally, she contacted Wawindaji. Hello friend, we've sensed another group of two-legs in a metal beast hunting close to us. Stay focused on protecting the true beasts for now, but I may ask for help with the other two-legs.

After communicating with the spirit, the shaman slipped her sight to the astral planes to look for any threats there.

The patrol continues its way eastward, passing about 2km north of your position. It would seem set to pass you by harmlessly, at least before it turns southward. If it does not change course, you estimate it will pass within half a kilometer of your current position.
