The other’s auras showed lots of signs that something important happened to them in the recent past. Subtle scars of a great shock were visible, as well as undertones of a great emotional burden. But no signs of nanotechnology could be discerned.
About your own aura, you weren’t that sure. You sensed the same changes as in the others. In addition, you sensed something, some residual sign that reminded you of nanotechnology. This was a fading sign, one that might have indicated that nanites worked in your body at an earlier time but it was obscure. It was fading quickly, which suggested a recent event. What was truly interesting, as well as reassuring, that whatever it was it didn’t make any significant changes in your aura. No signs such as cybernetics usually left, no changes in your general health.

You recalled mostly the basics about nanites. The little buggers worked in clusters and clouds, permeating the living organization to work their effects and unless a supporting structure prevented is, they died out in weeks at most, but possibly in days. Of course, these machines could be programmed as well as any complex systems, to do different jobs from supporting healing processes, help people learning, or amplifying other natural functions of the human body, to the reverse effect of acting like poison, gas, or other harmful material.
The main supporting system of these machines was a nanohive, which had the ability to repair damaged nanites or replenish their constantly dwindling ranks. But these implants were taxing the recipients’ body heavily, categorized as invasive surgery, and leaving their marks for a long time. Barring the presence of a nanohive, nanites could be replenished by medical means, but that needed regular checkups and injections of additional nanites.
