Try to get in a play by post campaign.
I've always wondered about those, yet been utterly terrified. Wouldn't combat take weeks? Days, at least? I mean while it would give me right to be verbose in my poses (Something I do enjoy) wouldn't it also open me up to a campaign that would never get past what would normally be "Session 1?"
Ideally, an online game can start at (or closer to) session 2, with what would normally be "session one material" being covered by narration. Admittedly, a good GM can pull this off at the table, it's just easier in written form. Combat could drag out, and I'm sure it sometimes does, if people don't declare their actions promptly. But even if the characters are surprised, the players shouldn't be, and warning them ahead of time to stay on top of the game on the day or days when it gets resolved, can smooth it out considerably. That's where things like Roll20, MapTools, and/or Skype can come in handy.
