So I'm starting up a game, and I've been helping my players (who are all new) with character creation. One of my players, who is planning to run a street sam, was doing his shopping and saw the blurb in the book where it mentions that GMs and players can work out custom items and equipment at the GM's discretion. My street sam player joked that he'd love to give his guy a retractable chainsaw arm, like the character Jack from MadWorld and Anarchy Reigns. Now, this doesn't seem entirely unreasonable to me (I know CyberPunk has a chainsaw arm option), but I'm wondering how I would go about ruling on something like that without either making his character completely broken or making the chainsaw rather useless (since the chainsaw as a weapon sucks as it's written in the rulebook).

Any other GMs ever try implementing this or something similar? How did you handle it, and what would you suggest?

My question would be not one of "Can it be done" but rather "What will the general populace say/react?"

Obviously such a person would be stopped at every roadblock, will have all his licenses checked by every KE or LoneStar Officer every time, and have people that see him walking down the street minding his own business call KE at the slightest provocation, based on his apparence alone. He'd be a walking freakshow and would/should be handled as such. At the very least, he should have the "Destinctive style" negative quality :)

Now stuff like Cyber weapons do exist, so he could work with something a little less extensive I'm sure :)

What about a custom Cyberblade? There's these Vibroblades in Arsenal, might be something similar in Run&Gun. Not exactly Chainsaw but it vibes and it cuts and tears.
How am I not part of the forum?? O_O I am both active and angry!

The idea would be that the chainsaw would be retractable into the cyberarm, similar to spurs or a hand-blade. He wouldn't be running around with a chainsaw for a hand like Ash from Evil Dead, though that would be pretty funny.  ;) Plus, he's a giant, chromed-up Troll. I'm going to treat him as pretty distinctive, anyway.

Interesting suggestion. I don't know if they have that implemented for 5th edition yet, but I could always house-rule it to make it compatible.

Well I was thinking about Modular Limbs...and uh yeah...I got bored one day....

and come on you know if they have penile implants... it's like rule 34.5 ...

In 2075 I"m sure a lot of people would have modular Penile implants, just think about it... Jealous Wife or Husband...keep your Penis at home while your off on that corporate trip!

Think about how much easier it would be to have a long distance relationship!

Wireless: Detaching is a Free Action!

Most of the other Wireless bonuses would be ....in bed.

Possible choice:

Internal Monofilament Chainsaw
There are few items as terrifying as the iconic monofilament whip. However, for those with a verve for the weird and destructive, the internal monofilament whip is an unpopular alternative.

Essence Cost: .3
Capacity Cost: [5]
Avail: 12F
Cost: $5,000

Damage: 8P
AP: -8

Wireless: Drawing weapon is a free action.
Special: Double Damage against Barriers

Edited to add Will it Blend video.

I would up the Essence Cost, Nuyen Cost, and Capacity. I would say it would only be able to be installed in Partial or maybe even Full Limbs. Reach maybe 1?>> It's not going to imbalance game. Availability would probably be at least 12 or higher.

Any particular reason why upping all the costs?

My thinking was the following:

I compared it to the Shock Hand (does one more damage and gets the electrical benefit). This is P, but has, effectively, the same damage. (-1 DV but 3 better AP). Therefore, I netted this out to 0.

It's special effect is very niche. So +1 capacity.

Same cost as the shock hand.

Essence cost slightly higher (highest for any weapon).

What was your thinking?

I was more thinking of the Logistics of Trying to put something the size of a chainsaw into something the size of an arm and still have a functioning arm.

A shock glove is relatively hand size and seems like it would be way easier to work out how to work it into a cyberlimb.

Things that you have to special order, usually cost more.
