My guess is that a standard credstick is a little like a USB memory stick.  It can come in a wide array of colors, but it's always clearly cheap plastic.  The silver, gold, and ebony credsticks would look like their metallic and shiny counterparts.  I doubt the material is actual gold, silver, or ebony - that would make them incredibly heavy, and prone to allergens.

I always assumed a bog standard credstick would be cheap, slightly off- white plastic, as the opposite of the highfalutin' Ebony ones.  Thanks for reminding me that they would be all sorts of custom ones, you just added some more flavor to my Seattle.

I remember when we were starting off as shadowrunners and getting paid for our first time by certified credsticks that we would all roll off to see who keeps the credsticks we were so poor.  Some of us had little keychains for credsticks.

Try taking a peek in the old Neoanarchist's Guide to Real Life. It had a section on the sticks. I believe they are all black except for a ring in one end which determined the limit of the stick.
