Ok, so if I'm making an adept with firearms skils and I want to take advantage of a smartlink without getting wired what are my options.  I can buy say a Predator and glasses with Smartlink and just run a wire from the pistol to the glasses and that works right?

That is a risk alot of runners take, your gun can be protected by your commlinks DR or by your teams decker.  The decker can slave as much gear to his deck and use his firewall to protect your stuff and you can reap the benefits of having wireless bonuses.  If you don't have a decker then a good commlink is your best friend as they have to beat the DR of the commlink to hack or brick your gun.  It is why the first thing I buy when I get the chance is a fairlight caliban.  My own gun adept has three of them.

Yeah, but not through a wire. Under RAW, to get a wireless bonus, the item itself has to be wirelessly active. It's slaved to the commlink so gets the exact same defenses though.

By the way, you want to slave things to the Mage's commlink, for a decent willpower. Say he has 6 Willpower and you use a DR7 commlink, and you're both on Low Lifestyle: Now you roll 13 dice in defense, even if they try to hack your glasses, and the Hacker takes a -2 penalty from having to hack you while you're on the Public Grid.

This give you +2 accuracy, let you fire around corners and depending on your reading the ability to fire without touching the trigger, change firemode and eject clip without touching the weapon as simple actions. This make your gun undetectable from the matrix and immune to matrix attacks. You dont get Wireless bonus connected this way.

Or you wireless connect your smartgun with your smartgoggles/glasses and your trodes.This give you +2 accuracy, let you fire around corners, fire without touching the trigger, the ability to change firemode and eject clip without touching the weapon as Free actions, compensate for wind one level, both accuracy and dice bonus on Take Aim and a positive dice pool modifier of 1 dice. Your gun can be spotted and attacked from the matrix so a good idea is to run it silent (to make it less obvious to spot) and slave it to your commlink (to give it more dice when defending).

That slave and willpower thing only works if you are a technomancer.  Mages, Adepts and other runners have to deal with just the device rating.  While the detect gets to add his decks firewall and his willpower to it while a technomancer adds his funky technomancer stats.

What are you talking about? Against Hack On The Fly and Control Device you roll Intuition+Firewall, against Brute Force, Format Device and Reboot Device you roll Willpower+Firewall. Are you getting confused with Matrix Perception, which only a Decker (not a Technomancer) can help you with by adding Sleaze?

I will be honest I am not to hip on matrix stuff.  But I know enough that you can have deckers use their decks to protect your wireless equipment if you are paranoid about having your shit hacked.  If you are smart your going to have your equipment of course running silent on page 235 that way people trying to brick your stuff is going to have to find it to brick it first.

Unless your group has a Decker to provide your Gear with a slaved Sleaze attribute, that's real easy to do since you'd only resist with a single attribute. And not every group has a decker.

If your adept is going for machine pistols and automatics, you're probably better off taking a laser sight and tracer ammunition. You get +2 accuracy, +1 dice pool and don't need to worry about what connects to what in what mode. Just need an FA capable weapon, of which there are plenty in each class of automatics (pistols/SMG/AR)
