History
Kai Wen is the youngest of 3 girls by 97 seconds. A fact her older twin never let her live down. She, her twin Lang, and her older sister Shuo immigrated from China when she was 6 with her grandparents after her mother and father died. Her Grandmother started working towards citizenship and working under the table for friends while her Grandfather, a hermetic mage, started working with local schools teaching thaumaturgy. They adapted well to life in North America. When her Grandmother achieved citizenship, she registered the whole family proudly as citizens.
Life progressed and Kai soon became Grandfather’s favourite. Later she discovered it was due to her magical nature. Before Awakening, he taught her traditional Chinese ways. Kung Fu. Archery. Making sure she kept strong ties to the language and the life that they left behind. As life went on, the family grew more and more North American. Shuo became involved in the Triad’s. Taking to drug use and soon passed around from gang member to gang member and eventually was used up. She ended up dead of a drug overdose when Kai and Lang were 16. As the most beautiful in the family, this broke her Grandmother’s heart. Life was never the same for her. Lang, hoping to find someone to punish, also started to move in Triad circle’s. She was hanging out with them more and more as they raided other local gangs to make a name for themselves and move into the local Triad syndicates.
As Lang was doing this, Kai started some hobbies of her own. When you have 10 years of training under your belt and Grandfather won’t let you compete, you start to look for other ways to test your skills. Kai started sneaking out at night started breaking into houses. For fun at first, but soon she started stealing small, nondescript items. After pawning these, she bought some useful gear. Climbing Gloves, Lock picks, etc.
After they turned 19, she returned home after sneaking out one night.. It was late. Walking into the house, it had that eerie silence it always did as she snuck back in. This time, as she sat quietly to listen, making sure no one had awaken, she did not hear the sounds of her family sleeping. Then she heard the sound of movement downstairs. A giggle. Then a shush. She made her way down the hall. Looking down over the bannister she could see flashlights moving and the sound of whispering. She heard the sound of her sister’s voice which she confirmed as she walked past her bedroom and saw it vacant. She continued down to her grandparents room. Grandmother was in bed, but sleeping at an odd angle. Looking closely, she realised it was not sleeping. Grandma was not breathing. The darker portion of the bed that she attributed to shadow was not. It was blood. She hardened her resolve. Someone one was going to pay for this. She must’ve been mistaken about her sister. She quietly made her way down the stairs. Quietly. Moving slowly from corner to corner. Wall to wall. As she slowly made her way to a room that she heard movement in. More than one person. So very slowly. So very quietly. Coming to the edge of the wall, She slowly made her way to the edge to look. Suddenly footsteps coming right toward her. She panics and turns to run. Coming face to face to a Chinese ganger who is just as surprised as she. They both panic. Without thinking he lashes out and his first punch breaks her nose and jolts her back into reality. She lets slip the extendable baton and ducks low and brings it down on the side of his knee. Hearing the noise, a beehive of movement. She lashes out at another but he ducks and runs for the door. Blood pours down her face. from the smashed nose and a flurry of movement as people vacate the home and she tries to stop them. Gunshots hit the wall and she remembers not to stand still. Turning into her Grandfather’s study, she catches the first site of her Grandfather. His eyes have been crushed and blood runs from the sockets. Cuts and stab wounds. A gun shot wound to his upper leg and his abdomen.
As her thoughts return to reality and the cuts from a bleeding soul move to the background, she pulls her backpack tighter watching people moving about there lives. Not her. Not anymore. Her own sister. Torturing her Grandfather for access to the small safe that he kept reagents in. Materials easily sold. His power focus. Money to start a new life or just for drugs. She never spoke to her sister to find out why. She isn’t ready yet. Because it’s a conversation that won’t end well.
She remembers what she did to the ganger with the busted kneecap. The tortures. Not even trying to get information. She remembers the match as she started the fire. The look on his face as he started to burn. The house as she walks away. The heat from the blaze in the cold Seattle air. Hopefully they all think she died.
If this is what the city makes her, so be it. But killing. It’s a service. She won’t kill without a pay check. This is what Angel found after she looked inside about how she wanted to live her life.
No more nice girl.

Fu.
I just call him Fu. He hates it. He was a friend of my Grandfather’s. He sold us herbs as Grandfather taught me traditional medicine. I am sure he would like me to go away, but it’s hard to turn away someone who used to be close and fell into tragedy. On my end I don’t keep in touch. Occasionally buy things.
Wesley.
Had a crush on my sister. When you can’t have the thing you want, you settle. I know this and use it. I occasionally get info from him but mostly I keep tabs on my sister. I like to know where she is. I will want to talk to her at some point. We can talk about family. And stuff.
