Well if discussing random stuff that may or may not end up mattering is something you enjoy, we have something in common.  Here's another one for you: astral water.  We are on an island, after all.  After some googling and some thinking, I came to picture it as something almost like the sky in Starry Nights (http://www.paintwinestudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Van-Gogh-Starry-Nights.jpg) but with the blue replaced by a flowing shadowy, smoky...stuff.

You have your currents and eddies carrying thicker strands of microscopic stuff/algae/whatever, you have fish of various sizes swimming around all over, you have big rocks and other objects covered in algae/seaweed, your normal bottom scum.  All of them blending into a shimmering lightshow.

Thoughts?  Everybody else feel free to chime in if you'd like as well.

ETA: As soon as I posted this it struck me how unprepared my character actually is for an island setting.  Yikes.

@Celtibero Awesome! I look forward to having a read when you're done. Hmmm... you're looking at files that are less than a day old. The security on a rating 3 host isn't going to do anything serious with those for a while. I'd imagine at this point it's pretty easy to check data from the last few hours.  You only noticed patrol IC, you could possibly look around if you wanted...

@Tenlaar Haha I love this piece great taste! Any opinion on seeing through glass? You can easily pass through it, but I believe it would still be opaque astrally.

I can't remember which section it was in, but I know that glass functions the same as concrete in the astral.  Can't see through it at all.  On top of that, almost all glass is one way mirrored glass, so you can't even use normal vision to see through windows or into cars.

Well I found part of it at least, page 363.  "Windows tend to be mirrored in 2075 (preventing an outside spellcaster from targeting anything inside), though their tinting is often voice- or wireless-controlled. Transparent concrete is also used, providing all the lighting of glass with the barrier value of a concrete wall."  So I guess there is some wiggle room there, and it's cool to know that we could theoretically have somebody hack a window to make a target visible.

Glass (and any other material with the purpose of being transparent) is transparent on the astral.

Water is the same on the physical and astral. Not in appearance or function, just in behaviour. The reason is it teams with life which causes a kind of friction to pass through. There was even a plant that you could not pass through and create a muggle ward with.

I wish this was clearly laid out in the 5E core book.  All that I can find looking through the astral section are, from pages 312 and 313- "Any non-living objects appear as faded semblances of their physical selves; grey, lifeless, and intangible." and "Objects that are neither magical nor living do not have an aura; they are featureless grey shadows of their physical form."  This, to me, makes no distinction between a window or a wall or a car or a mail box.

Looking at Street Magic, p.114- "Shadows of physical objects in the astral plane may be drab and insubstantial, but they are still opaque and can prevent targeting. Items that are transparent or mirrored in the real world (like a car window) simply impair visibility as astral shadows."  This seems to have the sentence structure of trying to say something different about transparent or mirrored things but still saying the same thing.  If shadows of physical objects = astral shadows, and astral shadows = opaque and prevent targeting, and transparent or mirrored items = impair visibility as astral shadows, then transparent or mirrored items = opaque and prevent targeting...right?

Oh yeah, it'll happen.  I'll be 31 later this month myself, and let's just say that I had a lot of fun in my 20's.  A lot of moving around the country (three places in Virginia, Missouri, NYC, faaaar NW Washington state) and no real responsibility to speak of beyond keeping myself alive.  So I'm just now starting to settle into a stationary lifestyle and focus on self improvement.  As soon as I've got the vital stuff covered the piano will be up.

I'm also learning to build stuff (carpentry), fix stuff (general mechanical), and grow stuff (vegetable farming).
