recenly, in a year long campaign. my weapons specialist has come up against a weird problem. He has all the weapons he needs. his gear is suitably customized, he has the appropriate fake IDs/credentials and numerous safehouses. I do not know what to invest my money in.

As your GM about a Karma-4-Cash / Cash-4-Karma option like the Missions campaigns have.

Start and grow a business.

Get some vehicles... gliders, roadmaster, tricked out westwind eurocar, attack helicopter.

Plan a really ambitious run.

A fully tricked out T-Bird will take some saving up for.

The problem with that is at a certain point cyberware has diminishing returns.  My samurai recently replaced both of her cyberarms with betaware versions... hideously expensive.  With no payoff, save that I could then fit in another augmentation I wanted, which I also had to pay for.

For someone facing those kinds of choices, sports cars, heavy weaponry, businesses and bribes are much cheaper and give new ways to play with the character and more things to do.  This will make your game much more enjoyable, rather than replacing cyberware to eek out another  minor competitive advantage in your field.  Besides, other things that you buy can lend themselves to aiding your primary role.

Oh.  I didn't realize this was an exclusive list, instead of one for suggestions.

Cyberware is difficult to take away from you; incremental improvements, or even an entirely revamped suite of implant gear, can mean the difference between a successful run and a bloodbath, with you supplying the liquid for the bath.  Plus, it means a change in approach, which can mean a difference in how the character is recognized.

My initial suggestion was actually to take the GM aside and ask for all his stuff to be wiped out - because after you get the racing team, the yacht, and your sixth penthouse suite, there's only so much you can do.

If you are buying a yacht, it's time to retire as a shadowrunner.

Destroyers, cruisers and submarines, on the other hand, just change the nature of the game.  If your runner's at the peak of their abilities, escalate into a mercenaries game, or take over a corp/syndicate and mold it into your image.

Also consider training your replacement and retiring your current character to a safe supporting role.  You can start over with a new guy who has a different style of play with a powerful ally to draw resources from.  This works well if your GM is cool with it.

On the contrary - a yacht simply changes the nature and level of the game your shadowrunner happens to be playing.  Most shadowruns / shadowrun games don't - can't - take advantage of things like long and high-level cons; that's exactly where your racing team / yacht / penthouse comes into play...

Save the money up. Use it to build an ironclad new identity somewhere it's sunny and they serve martinis at the beach. Actually DO what so many shadowrunners aspire to, dream about.

Retire.

Get out of the game. Live the good life.

Have trouble sleeping the rest of your life as you wait for your past history to finally catch up to you and come crashing down all around your head. :)

Have trouble sleeping the rest of your life as you wait for your past history to finally catch up to you and come crashing down all around your head. :)

Then start a very high-level campaign in which you attempt to keep your ass out of the fire, or get revenge.  Or twist it up and lose everything you worked for, and fight to get it all back.
Feel free to keep any karma you earned illicitly, it's on us.
