At first I saw the Perception roll and thought "Sam has thermographics, he must have a better dicepool than that." But no, no, it looks like Poindexter got it right. Might have to get Sam some vision/hearing enhancement.

Rather sporting of the HTR team member - who just jumped out of a crashing helicopter - to go for the melee attack on a raging troll rather than the full auto. Looks like he had a pretty sweet attack roll at least, but don't rifle butts have an Accuracy of 3?

Whoops, for some reason I assumed it was Physical Limit. His gun does have Melee Hardening, which I think would make it not qualify as an improvised weapon and bring the Accuracy up from 3 to 5, but that still drops him down to 4 net hits. So Uncle Sam took 5 stun.

And my thinking is that this guy wanted to take out Sam discreetly, trying to knock him out in a single blow to the head without alerting anyone else he knows is in the rover. Full Auto would have given away his position.

2nd pass

complex action- tighten the grip.

Tighten the grip around the soldier: 12d6t5 4

You forgot that you get +2 for Superior Position when you make a test for a better grip, so you get 2 extra dice on that.

Yeah I noticed, so I edited mine to compensate.

So, he broke out of your hold with a whopping 6 hits, but those Complex Actions ate all his passes. Initiative again.

Man, Run & Gun's martial arts rules are a mess. I was thinking he might attempt a Reversal, but saw that move requires Martial Arts training. But none of the Martial Arts give access to Reversal, so it's a technique in the book that has no method of being performed. Well done, proofreaders!

Oh wow, you guys act simultaneously. He spends a Complex Action sizing you up, so what does Sam do at the exact same time?

complex action- charging tackle (subduing attack)

Tackle this bastard to the ground: 12d6t5 4

He responds with an interrupt action to counter strike and tries to punch your face in when you do.

And gets 3 hits!?! Wow, even with Reading the Defense he lost that roll. So he drops down to 11 Init and you tackle his ass.

actually, reading these rules again, i suppose techincally, im going for a subduing hold again, then next pass, if successfull, ill try to put him down.

Yeah, you grab him again, and its now your turn since he lost init trying to punch you. You can either Knock him down, Roll again for a better grip, or apply 8 stun damage.

going for the knockdown.
its a called shot, so i get -4, but ive also got superior position, so its +2, for a total of -2.

Try to get him on the ground: 10d6t5 3

also, since its a called shot, it takes my free action this pass.

if succesful, i will NOT go to ground with him, as i assume that his being prone while i am not will give me more melee bonuses, correct?

5 hits, he remains standing. He then spends his turn to break out, and he only needs to beat your 1 net hit. So he succeeds. On to Combat Turn 3. He rolls and gets 20 Init.

I don't think Subduing is working out for you. You don't have the dice superiority over his defense pool to maintain a grip. You'd be better off trying to give him some wound penalties first, I think, or just go for the knock out punch.

aint he wearing hardened armor though? I don't think i CAN dmg him without a weapon. I'm just trying to buy some time for help to arrive, really.

or am i wrong about the armor?

He's wearing Full Body Armor with a helmet from the core book, so he's got 18 armor, but it isn't Milspec. So no, not hardened. And you have titanium bone lacing, so your punches are 11P.

Considering Ren is still absent, I might say that Ace followed you down the hill and is about to offer some support. If nobody followed you down the hill, his allies are closer to joining this fight than yours are, and then you'll be totally fucked.

This is fun to watch.

Ryo, is there LOS of this encounter from the van? I don't know how dense the hillside is with trees. If there is LOS then the Masked Woman could interrupt her preparation and try to cast Mana Bind to help a brother out.

Edit: grammar
