How do you want to handle the part about determining the confidential informant? I figure I would start that and be "on call" to hack into Club Frisco's Host if needed. I may just do that anyway closer to the end to edit video, but it depends on how many cameras there are. I would assume several, so it might not matter. If any get really good images of LS or Phoenix, I may try to edit those.

As far as I can tell, there aren't really rules for this kind of thing, so let's make them up!  Why don't you give me a Computer+INT test to establish patterns between the information that the informant has been giving the star with potential locations in Tezuka's territory.  Hits on that test will add additional dice to the next test, and reduce the Threshold once per hit, to a minimum of one.  The next test will be a LOG+Software+Hits test to write a program that will collate the data and give a percentile score on individual's or businesses most likely to be the CI.  In the case that a business is listed after this step, I'll take a Matrix Search test in order to find out information about employees, which will further limit the pool of potential CIs.  We can handle that (those) test(s) after the first two are completed.

Since this isn't a straight pass/fail kind of thing, I'd rather not give a straight Threshold to you right now.

Sounds good to me. I'm assuming these aren't Matrix Actions, so no VR bonus and I'm using my Mental limit rather than my deck limits.

Pattern Recognition (5 INT, 5 Computer) [9]: 10d6t5 5

Programming [LOG (8) + Software (5) + Pattern Recognition (5)] [9]: 18d6t5 2

(Happy Wow on the first roll. Double Sad Wow on the second...)

Screw it, I'll Edge it for a hopefully better result. Re-rolling failures: Re-roll Failures on Programming [Failures (16)] [7]: 16d6t5 5

So, 7 successes on the 2nd test.

I'd buy that the programming is a matrix action, so go ahead and roll 2 more dice.

Extra Dice on Original Programming Roll: Programming [Hot-Sim (2)] [9]: 2d6t5 1
Reroll of Single Die from Edge: Edge Reroll Failure Hot-Sim [Failure (1)] [6]: 1d6t5 1

For a grand total of 9 hits, which is my mental limit.

Ok, that's some good use of Edge.  It's more than enough to hit the highest threshold, so I'm going to reduce the time it took to do all the programming.  Considering she was doing so in HotSim, we'll say the whole thing should be done in a few hours -- but go ahead and IC it out, if you'd like.  We can adjust based on RP concerns.  Good news is, unless the team goes and does something crazy tonight, Wraith should get that Edge back after her nice full night's sleep, and have the necessary info for acting on in the morning.

Wraith's program spits back a 96% probability that the CI is a ganger who guys by Red Yohan, based on the level of understanding related to criminal enterprise, the quantity and geographic location of the tips provided, and the patterns of speech provided by scrubbed transcripts.  In order to get this level of information for the program Wraith would already be aware that Yohan is a Lieutenant in the TapBoyz, a small neighborhood-based gang that must think Tezuka is taking more than his fair share in taxes, or perhaps doesn't like the fact that the yak fronted businesses are off-limits to him and his boys..  If you're interested in any further info, let me know.

Welcome back, Poindexter.

@Jayde and @SGT, what are the plans once you're inside.  The bar is fairly hopping, considering the rest of Dallas right now, so the people watching and the moving around should be good.  What are you specifically looking for, trying to find out, etc?

@Poindexter, will you be staying in the car, or do you want to give it a go in the club?

@Jayde and @SGT, would you each give me a Perception Test?  I'll IC what kind of info you're likely to gather just by observing.

lol, wow?

You sure you don't want to use Edge to re-roll failures?   ;)

Damn, that's a nice roll.

@ JackVII:

Just making sure we're talking fluff, here, because seeing a Commlink that isn't running silent is automatic with a Matrix Perception test.  There is nothing to indicate that a large number of links nearby changes that.

For fluff, though, it certainly makes sense that you'd need to narrow it down if you weren't actually in the room with us, so I can roll with that, but wanting to make sure there wasn't a rule I was missing that lead to that question.

Just because it is running silent doesn't mean I know which one it is. How many people are in that club? Because that's how many commlink icons are running around in that joint and there isn't really any way for me to determine which one is the manager's, based on the way I've played/interpreted Matrix Perception before.

The rules on Matrix Perception are pretty terrible, TBH. On the rare event I GM, I allow for visual spotting to zero in on a device running in the open (or allow that to be considered a piece of information needed to zero in on a silently-running icon). But since I'm in a car outside of the club, I personally don't think I have enough information to zero in on the device.

Now, I would also allow for Matrix Perception to determine the commcode of a device, so if someone has eye's on the device, they can get the commcode, which could be used to spot the icon. That was the allusion to someone inside doing a Matrix Perception test against the commlink to get the number. Alternately, if someone can determine what kind of link it is, I can start filtering for only those specific commlink icons.

It's pretty much up to rednblack on how he wants to approach this, IMO.

Right, so based off of what feels like logic, in this situation.  No problem.
