I posted a while back about how one of my players had a devout Catholic PC get infected and turn into a ghoul. Since then, we've developed a new, delightfully heretical belief system. We're calling it "True Communion", and the concept is that god has chosen HMHVV infection as the means of testing and separating sinners from saved. Basically, anyone who comes through the ghoul transformation sentient is amongst the saved, and the feral are the damned on Earth (and must be eliminated). The only True Communion is, of course, literal flesh. The character is slowly gaining covert support from some factions within the Ghoul Liberation League.

The Catholic church currently has a large bounty out on the character.

Anyway, feel free to use this if anyone wants to, it's been a lot of fun.

That would not only be a heresy, but downright schismatic.  My only problem with it is why would the Church put out a bounty on the character, when mere excommunication and a public announcement of the matter regarding official Church teaching would probably settle the matter better than putting out a bounty.  But if they do become a problem whereby they encourage others to go through becoming a Ghoul, then they might do more than put out a bounty.

In my games, one of my players is a Catholic Adept Detective who gains his powers through prayer, fasting, and the Sacraments, and he's part of a very secret organization that doesn't even have a name that goes around killing serious bad guys.  But the Church in the Sixth World is considerably smaller, and, in some places, in hiding.  I'm running my game in the Portland/Vancouver area, and the Vancouver side is ran by the Cascade Crow, who not only harbor anti-Anglo sentiment, but many among them have very anti-Christian sentiment as well.  I've made a community to the due east of Vancouver, known as Camas-Washougal, a "white reservation," (according to the NAN book and Shadows of North America, if people want to know), that's not just open for whites, but for all races provided they declare themselves Christian, and it's ran by like ten different Christian sects (real life Camas-Washougal area has like 30 different churches in the area - I counted).  This super secret organization works in league with other Christian sects to protect the faithful, particularly from the very nasty of nasties, but ghouls really aren't on their radar.  They're more interested in Insect and Toxic Shamans, Satanic groups, Humanis Policlub (which the Church openly castigates), and hackers who really shouldn't be sticking their nose in places they shouldn't.  The detective doesn't live in the reservation, but he's called upon every now and then to go look into matters, along with other agents.

Yeah- definitely planning to bring the Sylvestrines/Vigilia Evangelica in at some point- some of the team members encountered them before during the artifact rush. I like the idea of a multi-party showdown with runners, AZT and some confused/annoyed Catholics, but there's also a 4th faction involved:
There are some Catholic witch hunters who are on his trail too (due to his encouragement of "infection as salvation"), who have the backing of some ultraconservative higher-ups in the Church, part of the ongoing power struggle over how to respond to all of the various changes of the 6th World. AZT provided some $, posing as donations of concerned Catholics, these people provided the blessing of the Church due to their common enemy. The character was framed by the witch hunters for killing a radical leftist priest in Hamburg, who was preaching Liberation Theology, sort of a "2 birds, 1 stone" deal for the ultra-conservative church faction backing the witch hunters. He had also (for real) murdered a pedophile priest some time ago, as part of his backstory, and Church investigators (not involved in the witch hunter's conspiracy) linked the 2 deaths, and ID'd him from his very public flight after the second one.
He's also not bright enough to spot all the clues and contradictions on his own, so hopefully some of his teammates will start digging into it.
Sooooo it's a whole convoluted mess. I think I will have the Sylvestrines/VE approach him about "correcting" his doctrinal mistakes and clearing his name. It would be fun to get him involved in some internal power stuggles, and make him choose between church and GLL. Thanks for all the input everyone!
