...R1ft5 (yes I spelled it that way to avoid the gaming police)...

I don't follow that bit I quoted? Why can't you spell Rifts?  ???

LOL. Old internet running gag from many years past. Palladium books has been rather vehement about NOBODY converting their system to ANYTHING ELSE EVER.  It even went so far as to something (email, post, internal memo, unsure the specific origin) going around as to you can't even alter his (Kevin Siembieda) world for your own games.  Thus the running gag of the Gaming Police will come and break down your door and confiscate your books. LOL

Palladium has been known to very aggressively protect their copyright by sending cease and desist orders to almost anyone who ever hosted even a minor conversion of their intellectual properties.  So many have gone to call it the "system/game that shall not be named" or misspelling it deliberately.  I did it mostly as a joke.

Huh, I didn't know how bad he had gotten. I understand the I.P. protection part; when Palladium's Nightspawn game came out, McFarland(sp?) sued them over the use of the word 'spawn' in the title. Palladium could have easily fought it: Nightspawn had nothing to do with Spawn and other IP material from that comic, and they could have used the same defense Lindows was successfully using against Microsoft before the settlement (their argument being that Microsoft had not invented the word 'windows'). However Palladium folded on the issue and changed the name to Nightbane, and I'm guessing this might be what is prompting their attitude. I still find it a bit puzzling though, since Palladium is allowing the company that does Savage Worlds to produce a version of Rifts for those rules.

Personally, my guess would be that Siembieda is really trying to get back to where he was years ago.  Palladium books went through a nasty embezzlement issues some years back.  Bad enough the Kevin had to sell off some very rare and very expensive collections (comics and the like) just to keep the lights on. IIRC, the court case didn't go much in his favor (something in the 6-7 digits embezzled and only 30,000 or so recovered).  My guess is with the shrinking sales and trying to recover from that, he's had to swallow some of his pride and license some of his stuff out.  Also, he's much older now and may not have the energy to fight it as much. Dunno.

Either way, I love the background and worlds he has created, just never had a lot of success in the system.  Rifts however lent itself VERY well to the Shadowrun system and is probably one of my favorite conversions to date.

Anybody else have any success in other settings with SR?

I've actually started on the Star Wars conversion for 5th ed. if anyone would be interested in taking a look.
