Character is a 800 karma build character designed as a jack of all trades master of none.  Plan on using my spells heavily to buff myself to decent levels.  Playing tonight, so thoughts?

A Jack of all trades character really works best for support skills.  Things like ranged/melee combat, social skills, and decking are things that you want a high dice pool for.

That's a decent chunk of Karma to get just 8 dice in the influence group.

Unless you're the only mage, I'd drop astral perception and improved potential for 2 ranks of authoritative tone and 2 ranks kinesics while dropping CHA to 3 and improving STR to 3. So you'll have+3(CHA), +4(Influence Group) +2 (authoritative tone\kinesics depending on whether you are initiating or the other guy initiated the social opposed roll) for a +9 versus the +8 you have now. And with the 1 increase in STR your physical limit doesn't change though your social limit drops by 1 (even with CHA increased by +4 with the spell, 13 dice usually only produce 4-5 hits) This also frees up 5 Karma that I'd use to get a better fake ID.

Thanks for the ideas.  Unfortunately it is to late, ran the first session tonight so character is now locked.  I worked tonight primarily as a Face and did fine.  Did the negotiation with Mr J, infiltrated the facility as a "Security Consultant", and did a bit of finding gear before the run,  Overall a successful run that actually stayed on plan.  NO casualties on either side (we actually went out of our way to save some lives...admittedly we had KO'd them and blew up the building they were in, but we made sure they got out first...)

At the end I have 12k nuyen and 6 Karma now to spend,,,

Why are you using a cavalier gladius? That is one of the worst SMGs. Granted GH3 had a lot of crapy weapons in it, but some really good ones as well, and one that needed an errata (and got one).

Agreed. This looks like a 'training wheels' edition, that you can use to introduce someone to the setting, and then shift over to something like 5E or 4E. Like how D&D 5E is best used as training wheels for D&D 3.X.

I chose the gun for the damage 8, and cheap price,  I intend to upgrade in the near future. I actually originally had a Machine Pistol but decided to go with a SMG because of the Specialization

I could probably get the rewrite but he worked really well in the game, mostly as a Face for that matter so don't think it will be needed (and I have a bad rep for revising characters so would rather not)

I used are seed money to buy decent contacts (Image link, ThermoVision, Low light Vision). 

Bought six skills with karma (Sneaking, Palming, Assensing, Perception, Hardware, and Demolitions)

Upgraded my Comlink to include Sleeze 2.  Also got a sword, Hardware Kit, some ammo, sling, Gunlight, spare clips, and a credstick.  Here are the current stats

Second Session tonight.  GM said I could only take two skills So chose Summoning and Hardware.  I messed with gear as well, but should be ready to go.  Let see if he can go two sessions without sneaking or perception  8)

Things went well, was a rescue op from Halloweeners of an Evo employee, 

Served as a bit of everything tonight except Decking (Combat heavy night, so Faced the meets, then fought like hell, Summoned spirit and healing spells).  Used 4 Edge and GOT EXTREMLY LUCKY on one opposition roll (Even with edge I bombed the roll but the GM Bombed his worse)

I did get into debt with the mafia for 5k but was also able to buy a sustaining foci (So now can have 2 buffs running simultaniusly).  Spent Karma on that and Sneaking & Perception.

I'm just not that into Initiation on this guy.  That seems like something I should reserve for our combat Mage (I have no intention of going to Magic 7, only meta magic I see for him is more adept powers...)

Even if you never improve MR, Masking and Adept Centering are useful for any awakened character.

But like I'll tell anyone who asks...I'd rather play a character I want to play and not the 'optimized' sharacter other people think is best.

So I was just speaking about my personal preference, not what you should do.

I once created an cyber-adept that had just 1 in both Maximum Magic and Magic Rating... would most people do that? No, but I had fun. And even though he wasn't optimal he still pulled his weight.

Agreed.   My main goal is to be all over with this guy.  I have 10-12 more skills I want for him still  and raise his strength and a couple spells.  about 35 more karma or 6-7 more runs.

I realize that it has been over a year.  Back Up is doing fine, he is sitting at 110 karma, has made a good amount of nuyen.  He has found a niche that he was not designed for as a force multiplier (Technomancer before you go in, take some logic with you, Face you need some agility for this fight).  I have picked up a sustaining foci and a Little Hornet deck. 

Due to a near total TPK (me and the first session ran Rigger are the only survivors of a 5 man team) my character is the only one still using Karma build.  The GM has asked that I revise him using Standard Build...

But he has done well for himself..
